NVIDIA, ADOBE WHAT'S UP?

After countless hours trying to figure out whats wrong it boiled down to this.
Last October I built a new system and had Eric Bowen from ADK tune it to perfection.  I'm kinda new to windows after working on macs for the last 10 years, so it took a bit of getting use to.
First, please let me start from the beginning.
The nightmare I've been living continues till this day, the transistion has been rough to say the least.  Seeing the specs I have, many of you share the same hardware.  I hope someone can help here...its my last ditch effort.  So far I've replace my original GTX 670 4GB with the new 780 ti, replaced 4 drives in my raid, performed hours and hours of tests on my ram, spent afternoons on the phone with Adobe Tech support, reset my preferences, ran cc cleaner, reinstalled all software, removed all the gopro/cineform stuff etc, etc, etc, and still Adobe premiere is very very unstable in my system. I've boiled it down to the Nividia drivers, right now I'm using 331.82 and it's as bad it was was with the prior updates as well as premiere pro updates ranging from 7.0, 7.1 and now 7.2.
It has to be a driver problem. All my hardware is fine, I won't replace anything else does anyone have any insight?
Should I reinstall my OS? Should I remove resolve? Should I remove any of the other Adobe Apps?  I'm at a loss here.  Problems range from, choppy timeline, no color correction tools seem to work and sometimes it just hangs. I believe there's and issue between Nvidia and Adobe. Agian any insight greatly appreciated.  If I have to I'll record my issues and post them if necessary.  Thanks a bunch...now I wait

2-2TB g-drive USB 3.0 (for back ups)

Hi Alex.  The problems I was experiencing were happening for quite some time like.  For starters the timeline would take a while to show up after start up. I would click project file tab or effects and it would show up, when I scrub the viewer, the timeline would not scrub. When I clicked on a clip and applied three way color corrector saturation slider would not drop down.  Sometimes when I would change my workspace to 5.5 it worked but then with another clip (in that workspace) it didn't.  I thought for a while it was a memory issue.  I have uninstalled, reinstalled premiere pro cc numerous times with no avail.  So finally with the advice from Jim I wiped my system clean, reformatted and installed windows 7 pro. I can say so far so good. Seems like it worked, however with my MTS files specifically play back is not up to par. I get this line of separation (kind of "jello" like movement) in my footage during fast pans, on the shoulder or slow zooms even. I tried different sd cards, it even does it with my prores footage too. Though the PP interface seems to be fixed with the new install, the video is still suffering. I gues I can only blame the Nvidia driver at this point. My raid 6, lsi controller card (just replaced) al seem fine, my next plan of action is to call the Sony service center to bring them camera to test the sensor.  I'm hoping it's just the fact avchd files and this driver version are out of sync.  If not I'm confident I'll get the root of it soon.  I'll keep you posted, thanks for the post. Stay well

Open letter to adobe: What future for Fireworks?
Hello, My name is Fred and I'm a Fireworks user since ever.
I prefer to warn you about my complete addiction to this software.
There's many discussions on this forum and others, on how you deal with Fireworks "improvements". Some say that you are in the process of discontinuing this program, others of a possible resale ... I even read some arguments about switching to Creative Commons license.
All this is the literal translation of a sincere concern!
Can you give us some answers on the future of Fireworks?
I think our community is quite alive and active, so I hope that you'll respond in a clear, fast answer.
    Thank you in advance.
If I made huge mistakes of spelling and grammar, I apologize.
    English is not my language.

From the looks of it, the writing is already on the wall.  I own a Creative Cloud subscription and one of the main benefits touted for the Creative Cloud is regular updates and bug fixes.  And every other app like Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Bridge, Lightroom, the Edge Tools, etc.  have seen multiple nice updates as part of the Creative Cloud subscription which has made me a big fan of Creative Cloud.
    All except for Fireworks.
Not a single update or bug fix has occured for Fireworks in Creative Cloud.  Even for the simplest of things.  I have reported typos in Fireworks that still have not been fixed.  In fact, I think the only app in Creative Cloud that has not been updated is Fireworks.
So like I said, it seems the writing is on the wall.  It's a shame too because even with its lack of care, it works phenomenally well for designing user interfaces.  But now others are starting to catch up and people seem to be switching to alternatives because Fireworks appears to be a dead end.
Without Fireworks, Adobe doesn't have a single UI design app in their portfolio and in particular it seems lots of UI designers are jumping ship now from Adobe to Bohemian Coding and their Sketch app. I'm dumbfounded that Adobe has allowed this to happen.
From what I understand, the Sketch app is created by just two people which makes the inability to keep Fireworks updated all the more baffling.

  • Adobe, what do you think about that ?

    - one day I was demoing DPS to 35 people in Paris. The whole day the servers were barely accessible. For the reputation and reliability of DPS that was wonderful.
    - another day I was doing a little DPS demo for Adobe. Again the same problem.
    - another day, the demo was ruined because the servers were so slow.
    - this Monday morning, I open my iPad and I can see my latest Folio in ACV.
In the afternoon I join Adobe reps and partners and other VIPs in London for the launch of CS6. There I go with my iPad and what a surprise when I want to show the Folio to an Adobe representative ?
Despite being signed in, all my folios where archived and all in Download state. I could not access a WiFi and even if I could I think that downloading 500 Mb would be impossible.
Many people where asking me :
—"And are you teaching DPS ?"
    – I said "Yes, I'm even working on it for real projects."
    — "Do you have one to show us ?"
    – "No, because Adobe's software, for a reason that I don't understand, deleted all my folios a few moments ago and I would have to redownload them again. ACV sucks".
People to who I have talked to where Adobe people, chiefs of graphic studios (newspaper, agency,...), potential clients for DPS,...
There was even of Adobe person that told me : "We are receiving a lot of complaints about the technical model of DPS, and you're right, it's terrible".
There are so many problems with this app and with the servers.
DPS's reputation will may be better when one day we just play offline with the folios like a PDF in GoodReader for instance.
    DPS is exploding my bandwidth.

Peter, that is sad. If a publisher decides to pull the issue from the
server, that's like burning down their own library of things.
Apple wanted adobe to stop downloading such large data into the storage
that will be backed up. So issues now go into the cache, that will not be
    uploaded to the Icloud storage.
Because you buy a 64gb iPad, but get only 2Gb of online storage.

  • Still no 3D on non-Nvidia?  Whats taking so long?

I bought my first GPU card specifically support the Adobe suite.  Bought a card of the list for Premiere since that is my primary app.  However when I got into After Effects for the first time on the new machine, a big dialog box popped-up informing me that because I didn't have an Nvidia card there would be no accelerated 3D support.  Still?  Really?  Since we're seeing all these announcements about how Adobe is supporting more platforms why is 3D not a part of this?  That's what these cards were originally architected to do!
Has anybody seen an explanation for this?

What Rick said is true, the After Effects team is no longer developing new features for the existing built-in ray-traced 3D renderer in After Effects. I want to clarify that this does not affect CUDA acceleration in other applications, like Premiere Pro. Nor does this affect the other ways After Effects utilizes the GPU, which you can read about in this article.
The ray-traced 3D renderer in After Effects is built on the Nvidia OptiX ray-tracing engine. Nvidia GPU's that support CUDA can accelerate this engine*, or it can run on the CPU, though obviously not accelerated. Other GPU's are not supported for acceleration.
*The version of OptiX built into After Effects is not compatible with more recent Nvidia GPU's. See this document for a list of supported GPU's.
The After Effects team worked very closely with Maxon to develop their Cineware solution between CINEMA 4D and After Effects. We continue to work with them to improve the 3D workflow between applications.
Rick mentioned AtomKraft/AE as an alternative 3D solution for After Effects. Video Copilot's Element 3D and Zaxwerks' ProAnimator and 3D Invigorator are similar solutions you may want to consider.
If there is specific 3D functionality you would like to see in After Effects, please submit a feature request: http://adobe.com/go/wish

  • Adobe: WHAT IS YOUR PLAN FOR DPS/ACROBAT/DISTRIBUTION?

Based on Matthew's post in this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/898426?tstart=0
I'm frankly concerned about investing any more time and resources into DPS without SOME SORT OF OUTLINED PLAN from Adobe.  Hinting that you may 'limit' functionality of the acrobat.com distribution method (which could mean anything, really) - but providing no further details - is simply not responsible.
DPS is no longer beta.  It's a product with an accepted workflow that accommodates those who want to publish magazine content via the Pro/Enterprise plans, and those who wish to distribute via acrobat.com.  There's been endless posts on this subject, and I would hope that Adobe has some sort of roadmap to giving it's customers continued support and options.  Instead, we get a cryptic message about how the acrobat.com distribution method is blowing up your servers.
Adobe, I'm asking for some clarification here and a clear outline of what you intend with this product.  Letting us travel down a course of building great material using DPS, and then possibly pulling the rug out from under us, is truly a concern.
Remember, it's not just your issues that are at stake.  Some of us are promoting/pitching/praising this new software and process to our companies and clients, and getting solid support.  We need to know that you've got some sort of solid foundation and plan going.  I cannot keep pitching/using this stuff, only to later tell the people that are paying the bills that 'oops, Adobe changed their minds.'.
    Tnx

    1. Define 'limited' for the Free acrobat.com account.
    2. With either the Basic or Plus acrobat.com subscriptions, define 'limited'.
    3. What is the max number of folios that can be hosted with Basic or Plus subscriptions?
    4. If I create a folio and do NOT use the Share method, but simply give out a username and password to download the folio, define 'limited'.
    All this remains very unclear.
    Tnx

  • Adobe, what you doing, no CS6 for XP?

The performance while you are using softwares like Illustrator, Photoshop and a 3D software like Maya together, Windows XP 64 "KILLS" the Windows 7 64, I've a computer i7 960 with 24GB ram, in my Windows XP 64 SP2, and yes, I'm using them all, fast and stable. I used the Seven at work once, that was so horrible, disappointing and even traumatizing, and the computer settings was really powerfull. Please Adobe, stop this madness, still a least one more release for XP users, is not me, but millions of people wish that too!
Just a little comparison, this test was made for push CPUs usage in dual or quad cores processes, and guess what:
In fact the results were surprising because the operating system many people's favorite, the Windows XP managed to get ahead in all tests, with a processing performance better with dual core chips and a scale of approximately 19% in a quad-core versus Windows Vista. Since Windows 7 yielded almost the same as Vista and it was even worse in some tests.
Please, consider a least the Windows XP 64 SP2. For work, there is no other like it.

So odd, almost 1/3 of population still using XP, and you say "not indicative of the greater population". Please man, Adobe make apps even for Android and iOS but cannot make run in XP anymore, running Ps for kidding in tablet, thats way to go!!!
What is currently running in XP64 SP2:
Adobe Ai CS5.5 fast & smoothly
Adobe Ps CS5.5 fast & smoothly
Adobe Br CS5.5 fast & smoothly
    Autodesk Maya 2012 - fast & smoothly
    Autodesk 3DSmax 2012 - fast & smoothly
Autodesk SketchBook Pro 2011 - fast & smoothly
Autodesk SketchBook Designer 2012 - fast & smoothly
Autodesk Alias 2012 - All packages - fast & smoothly
    Autodesk MotionBuilder 2012 - fast & smoothly
Pixologic Zbrush 4 - all plugins - fast & smoothly
The Foundry NukeX 6.3 - fast & smoothly
    E-on Vue10 - fast & smoothly
    And many, many others...
And some of this apps are running in Linux too.
You wanna swallow up the W7, I prefer wait for a real XP substitute, I hope that W8 be this guy.

  • Adobe: What frameworks are compatible with Native Extensions on iOS?

Man it's really hard to diagnose what could possibly be going wrong compiling ANEs for iOS. I dev apps in Xcode that work perfect, zero leaks. I use any part of the majority of the frameworks I've tried (none visual) and they simply don't work outside a very rare few. Vibration, gyroscope, alert modals, etc.
Is there a list of compatibility between ANEs and classes on platforms that AIR supports? Whether it be Windows, iOS, Android, MacOSX, etc?
Is there some way to "know" that a framework should be supported? For example, all I remember reading is to steer clear of visual classes. Oddly the UIAlertView modal works on iOS (that's visual to me but *shrug*).
My current need is to use NSURLConnection and NSURLRequest. Both are in Foundation.h. Neither are visual. They're simply classes that make a connection to a host while sending and receiving responses. Yet any time I attempt to instantiate a NSURLRequest it's insta-crash. I comment it out and the ANE works fine. So far I find almost everything I do with ANEs to fail.
Clearly the framework classes I'm using aren't supported or I'm doing it miserably wrong.
A chart indicating support would be REALLY nice for each platform.
On another note, has anyone utilized NSURL* on iOS successfully in an ANE?

Thanks for the response. A few questions on your insights.. I don't use the command line adt tool to do anything besides package the ANE. Otherwise I'm not sure why my AIR project would need to know where the iOS SDK base directory is. The static library is already produced.
Here's the simple code I'm using (just the NSURL* related stuff):
    http://pastebin.com/SFsq578R
I'm producing the Static Lib using XCode 4.3.x. I only need NSURL* functionality which is found in Foundation.h which is included and required for compile in build phases. If I comment out anything to do with NSURL* and simply return a string (FREObject of a const char*) I get that string back to flash and can print it to prove I have the context/initializer/finalizers set up and the function named properly. So the bridge between AIR and ANE work just fine. It's only when I use a NSURL* function that I crash.
Since my troubles I read this extensively long PDF on creating native extensions:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/air/extensions/air_extensions.pdf
To be brief, it warned that a FREObject only exists until the return of the function you call. What I'm wondering is if it's even possible to use NSURL* functions because they require a delegate and will be running async. So even if I make a request and a connection using that request, after I return from the FRE function the connection is probably being cleaned up.
That aside, I did make the connection and request a synthesized global hoping to get around this. Also to be brief I found an excellent post about debugging an IPA using XCode. Otherwise you're pretty much in a black hole debugging. Here's the post:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/rajorshi/2011/11/18/debugging-native-extensions-for-air-ios/
The recipe works although it didn't right out of the box.
XCode is telling me it's a EXC_BAD_ACCESS which typically means the object does not exist that I'm doing something to. My call stack looks like this (loosely, and the name of my static lib is libWebUtil):
    0 objc_msgSend
    1 CFStringGetLength
    2 _CFStringIsLegalURLString
    3 -[NSURL(NSURL) initWithString:relativeToURL:]
    4 -[NSURL(NSURL) URLWithString:relativeToURL:]
5 -[WebUtil performRequest] // this is my method
    6 performRequest
    7 avmplus::ExtensionContextObject::_call(avmplus::String*,avmplus::ArrayObject*)
    .. etc
From that stack I see it firing off the NSURLRequest and NSURL itself is first taking my string and testing it (CFStringIsLegalURLString) and then it runs CFStringGetLength. I assume it has completed verifying the string and goes to send a message (0 objc_msgSend) and I get a EXC_BAD_ACCESS on that.
I see 9 threads running. This happens on Thread 1 (com.apple.main-thread). The stack traces all look like ASM code to me. Not very useful but at least I can tell the official error.
Mind you that code linked above works perfectly if I make a new empty app, import it and run it. I print out the response data and it's fine.
Right around the incident on the stack there's a avmplus::EventDispatcherObject::NativeDispatchEvent(MMgc::GCAPI::GCRef<avmplus::EventObje ct>, avmplus::WeakRefList<SObject> const*) + 1076;  .. if that helps at all. It's like the event it dispatches (perhaps from NSURL) to signal that the NSURL I'm making on the fly is correct but there's no object to receive it. That might happen if my method finishes and the object is destroyed before NSURL can even fire off the message.
So I'm very interested in learning about object lifecycle in an ANE.

  • FAO Adobe: What is Adobe's mobile development strategy?

We've been trying to establish where Adobe is going with mobile development but just can't figure it out. Can anyone clarify please?
For example, when will Dreamweaver be updated to properly support the latest versions of Phonegap/Cordova (i.e. v3.x)? Or is there no commitment to Phonegap? Blackberry, WebOS, Symbian are still shown but not supported. And Windows Phone is supported but not shown.
There seems to be a lack of interest from Adobe for Phonegap/Dreamweaver support.
Alongside our investment in Flash, which is now killed off, we previously invested time in native app development, then started using FlashBuilder because of Adobe's support for mobile app development, but Flashbuilder isn't properly supported now. Then switched to dreamweaver/phonegap because of Adobe's commitment to develop once and distribute to many platforms. But it seems to be a dwindling commitment and Phonegap isn't planned to support Blackberry 10. Creative Cloud seemed like a step towards supporting better development and faster access to updated software but the products have hardly been updated since we adopted it. So, we're just trying to establish if there is a strategy or go back to native app development with eclipse and xcode or look for another solution.
We've recently seen "Adobe Experience Manager" in the press but it seems like a lot of marketing blurb with no real substance in terms of a development strategy and how the Adobe products fit in.
Any clarification of the strategy would be really useful. Anyone got any ideas?

    Hi Ronny,
you only have the two possibilities which where shown: Backweb or Attachments. As you say I got more bad experience with Attachments due to the fact that you need BP's or Activities. If you are using SAP Portal my recommendation is Backweb. I installed it under CRM 3.0 and it is really good. Easy to use and reliable. Admins need 30 min for training, Enduser about 5 Minutes and it works - what should I say more

  • Adobe - what is wrong with you?

Do you need to go that cheap with your testing?  One minute after installing the 10.3 update on a CLEAN win7x64 build  using IE9 standard (no extras) and any site using flash, especially forums with Google ads slow to a crawl, especially editing a post or entering any text is an exercise of extreme frustration.  It is silly to have to wait 3 minutes for your cursor to appear to enter one character in a post.
This means, you guys didn't bother to do the most basic testing with 10.3 - and with a company your size I have to ask, "What is wrong with you?"  Not only is this lazy and incompetant, but evebn worse you have somewhat of a monopoly monopoly on this type of content.  There is simply no excuse for this and this isn't the first time you've screwed the pooch as of late.  It was super fun fixing your security loopholes that delivered trojans right through computer systems via your flash ads.
If you can't manage this application, if you can't perform the most basic net tests - then sell this business segment off to someone more competant... hopefully someone who's not so inconsiderate as to fill our computer's with unecessary bloat (cue Adobe Reader).
    Sorry for ranting.

    Hi,
I'm sorry that you're encountering problems.  From your edit I'm guessing you've seen this post, but if you haven't please review it for details and a few workarounds.
I know this is frustrating, and we do apologize.  We do testing on many systems, but for whatever reason we missed this issue with Intel HD Graphics GPU's.  If you're running into problems with another display adapter please let me know so we can investigate further.

  • To ADOBE what is this nonsense with censored words ?

    Hi,
I think I have posted about 150 posts to this forum, I cannot
imagine or remember to use ever a >censored word<.
I wanted to post now 2 messages and twice I am not enabled to
send, a popup will inform me, that I am using a "censored word" in
my text. Sorry, but this is nonsense. I checked my text and could
not find any "censored word" in it.
How you people imagine that this should work? Also to write a
message to this forum cost some time, included code needs to be
prepared and so on...and at the end on "Post Message" your nonsense
    popup appears.
If it would at least name the "censored word" then the error
    could be fixed,
but not like this, sorry, very unprofessional.
with best wishes for a better future,
    Luciewong

    Good day M Inez,
Did you contact Adobe last week for assistance in downloading the educational version of Acrobat 9 Pro for Windows after a hard drive crash? That is what this case was in reference to.
The email you received was an automatic reminder from our system as they case hadn't quite closed out yet.

P.S. - I edited out your email address from both your thread title and the body of your post to help protect your privacy.

  • Microsoft buying Adobe, what are alternatives?

I just read its a real possibility Microsoft  buy Adobe. This will most certainly spell the beginning of the end of Adobe Support for Mac and the end of Coldfusion (the new windows only asp.net) - my solution, any number of languages but for me it will be php. Flash will become Silverlight...oh well, Dreamweaver will become some sort of Visual Studio hybrid or gone altogether but there are many solutions to that problem. The most pressing problem is a Photoshop and Illustrator alternative. 95% of my work is for the web and electronic formats so I'm not as concerned with some of the tools for print.
I'm not trying to create panic, this hasn't happened yet and it's not a sure thing. If it does happen I imagine support for platforms other than windows will continue for awhile albeit degraded before they fade out altogether. The problem is that Microsofts track record for creative products such as PS and AI has been less than stellar as has their track record with platforms other than Windows. Judging by past Microsoft acquisitions it will be the same for the Adobe product line. Android, IOS, OSX and Linux will continue to be part of the ecosystem and I absolutely do not want to risk being locked into platforms and tools that only support windows as it would be career suicide. I believe the same should be said for those that use the Windows OS to do their work.
With that said, what are the alternatives to Photoshop and Illustrator should it come to that?

The problem isn't so much Microsoft dropping support for a platform. It would happen though especially after the purchase. Once the deal goes through Microsoft can drop support for whoever they choose. I truly believe that products such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, and Flash need to be platform agnostic since they are so widely used in the industry and it is dependent on their success. With Microsoft you would be hard pressed to come up with argument that it would continue. History proves otherwise.
Platform issue aside. Microsofts track record for creative products has not been good. There is no reason to believe the Adobe acquisition would result in anything different. This has been Microsofts pattern. For all the complaining about Adobe I still use and rely on their products. A Microsoft aqcuisition would certainly create a need for an alternative. Microsoft has so many problems right now, and so many irons in the fire that it's hard to imagine the Adobe suite of products getting the attention they deserve. More likely they would slowly be absorbed into existing Microsoft products or eliminated altogether to eliminate competition.
Yes it's a shame the Adobe employees probably cannot comment. Keep in mind also that all of this is in the informed rumour stage. I have been a long time Adobe supporter, not just with Photoshop and Flash, but with Coldfusion as well, still, I think it's prudent to be proactive and explore options now and if they don't exist create them.

  • Adobe - what am I doing wrong?

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere...can't find an answer...
I needed to view certain docs on the internet requiring Adobe, so I downloaded it off the site, reader installed properly, appears in my Applications, but does not respond and never opens when its "supposed to."
    Advice?

    Hi HappySwitcher,
Click and hold on a PDF document and select Get Info (or highlight it and go to File>Get Info). In the Get Info window go to Open with. In the dropdown select Adobe Reader. Then Hit Change All..
From this point on, any time you double click a PDF document, it will automatically open in Adobe.
    Hope this helps,
    Billie

  • Adobe, what is the point of prelude?

For the people that is behind prelude, what is your purpose for this software?

Ingesting material from file based cameras and making multiple back-up copies of the original material. Creating selects and notes for editing. Rough cutting sequences to send to PP.
The software may or may not make sense in your workflow. If your camera doesn't record to a card it will be of little value. If it does it will help in transferring all the clips and info from the cards to your editing system. It can create backups while it ingests to your edit workstation. It can also transcode clips to other formats.
    Hope that helps
