Nvidia Chipset- 32-bit or 64-bit?

Hi, I am new to these forums, so I apologize if this question is posted already somewhere else- I just can't find an answer, so I'm posting my own question.
Can anyone tell me whether or not the new macbook pros (late 2008) have a 64-bit or 32-bit chipset? I've been reading mixed answers throughout the web, and it seems nvidia and apple are being pretty quiet about the answer.
I know that right now this question doesn't really make a whole lot of difference, I just want to make sure that when snow leopard (and nehalem for that matter) is released i'm not kicking myself TOO hard if I decide to take the jump and get the new MBP now.
If anyone knows, I would really appreciate a solid answer. THANKS!

Thanks for the link- I had skimmed through it before, but paid a little more attention to the details this time.
So the article says that there is no 32-bit version of Leopard. What confuses me is that a bunch of sites are stating that the nvidia chipset is only a 32-bit chipset. So I'm still unsure about whether or not the chipset is 32 or 64... I mean,
I'll probably never require more than 4gb or ram (at least for the time being) but I just want to make sure that if I make my MBP purchase now, I will not be really unhappy when Apple releases snow leopard (and 64-bit nvidia mobile chipsets to go along with it). Any advice on interpreting that article and information on the 64-bit status of the current mbp chipset is appreciated.
Thanks Again. (I guess I'm just trying to justify buying now, instead of waiting for nehalem... it's a tough task)

  • Hp 15-r033tx laptop does not show the Nvidia chipset information and only uses Intel HD graphics

My Hp 15 r033tx laptop has windows 8 64 bit installed in it and as it comes with NVidia Ge Force 820 M 2GB graphics card  , I have also installed Nvidia and Intel HD Graphic Drivers but in the dxdiag selection it does not list the Nvidia Chipset and information but only lists Intel HD Graphics with 1786 MB.
Also it does not show any Dedicated Video Ram that is normally showing in my other friends desktop with Nvidia Graphics properly installed
    Any solutions?

    Hi @Suraj2410 ,
Thank you for your inquiry, I will do my best to help.
I see that you have Windows 8 installed and are not seeing your switchable graphics.
When I checked the specification page I see it came with Free Dos.  When I checked for support drivers they are listed for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

  • Nvidia chipset and fbsplash

Hey guys, i kinda need some help in here with this.
I have a lcd monitor with native 1440x900 and i want to set up fbsplash but the kernel just give me 1280x1024 and 1600x1200, so it looks kinda squeezed the fbsplash,
So i've been looking the forums, the wiki, almost everything to get a proper framebuffer resolution but nothing found yet. I have an asus m3n78-pro motherboard, so my chipset is a geforce 8300, that's been said, i also tried changing the framebuffer to nvidiafb and not worked.
Already tried uvesafb, hwinfo --framebuffer, vga=ask, video=nvidiafb, al those options an nothing worked so far.
Let me says that i do have 1440x900 with nvidia closed drivers when gdm starts up, and i tried nouveau+kms before and gave the proper framebuffer resolution, but gdm then won't worked cause nouveau didn't catch the right resolution through Xorg.
So any help, i though first of re-compiling the kernel, in order to enable that hidden options saying 'framebuffer for 1440x900' but after spendding a full day through the kernel configs nothing found.
Again any help, would be nice, i kinda felt with the fbplash aur packages and it companion, fbsplash-scripts, initscripts-extras-fbsplash, so i wanna give it a try on my main desktop.
    thxs in advance.

The problem is that i tried but not enough to tell you that, i'm not sure if nouveau driver will let me use gnome-shell,
I'll do that, and come back to tell you.

  • Question nVidia Chipset Drive Package Version Number.

Question nVidia Chipset Drive Package Version Number.
Hope this question is in the right sub forum.
I have see this question asked on several Forums, but never see a answer.
How do you tell which Chipset Driver Package Version is installed on your system, other than going to the Device Manager calling up the properties for each device and record the version number and comparing it to what listed for the Drive Package version?
    Roger

    I agree with you Richard.
I wouldn't say super fast ram though, I buy Crucial. It is very nice ram and does not break the bank. (no heatsinks on it or any other expenses)
Maybe I offended you, Bcc, by accident. I'm just trying to help folks on these forums and I have been with the nforce since day one. I have never seen this issue happen (or anything like it) on this board.
Like my suggestion, (if that didn't work, I would have continued to work) if I couldn't disable the agp host I would have uninstalled it (the device itself) and let windows try again. It could have been an nforce package issue and not with the detonator. I wish when these problems occurred, that I had the opportunity to try and fix these very rare occurences and examine the issue at my own desk.
I see too many people jump to the conclusion that they have found the mystery bug and go tell nvidia to recall the boards and fix it. I would not try to tell you that you are clueless about computers, as I don't have any idea how well you know them. But as an experienced technical writer/helper, I'm inclined to speak to the people as if they are dumb. As you can guess, many aren't, and they think that I may be saying they are, but at least they understand the situation.
More than the majority of problems are caused by heat. Too much heat will cause funny things to start happening to your computer. Sometimes it's just the ram, or maybe the cpu that get overheated. With summer coming, it's prime time to see the 'heat' problem creep up. I'm sure this wasn't the case with your issue, but it is overlooked most of the time.
Anyway, I'm glad your happy and your problem is fixed.

  • NVidia Chipset Cooler

Just today, I removed the passive MSI nVidia Chipset heatsink, and replaced it with an active HSF. NB temps have dropped from 47deg. C to 34deg. C. Got 2 of these fans which were included in a hard drive dual-fan cooling kit from CompUSA. Don't usually buy from them, but it was only $14.99 for the mod!
    BEFORE:
    AFTER:

I'll try to answer all questions as best I can!
    1) I think it is a good idea to install any cooling device that will reduce the temperatures of the nVidia chipset (it's actually not a NorthBridge).
    2) I believe the most effective means of reducing the temps is to totally remove the stock MSI passive heatsink and install a fan-type cooling device. However, depending on how you use your computer, any additional and increased amount of cooling area and/or devices used for the benefit of increased stability is worth the effort.
    3) I do not know how this improvement will affect the guarantee. MSI is aware of the heat generated by the chipset, but felt their cooling solution was adequate. With the aftermarket full of modification hardware for these motherboards, I would be surprised if a warranty was null and void, due to any improvement made to a product. But, just like pushing CPU's and Mobos to their limits...their are consequences....good question for MSI!
    4) There are pre-existing holes in the motherboard that the stock heatsink is fastened to. I utilized those same holes and retaining pins and springs for my active cooling.
    5) You will need to remove the mobo in order to release tension on the heatsink retainer pins...by just pinching them together and pushing upward through the holes.
In addition to the installation of the active cooling device, I also applied some thermal paste!

It boots Ubuntu fine.  Arch linux doesn't complain either.  I only found out about the problem when I tried to pacman -Syu straight after the install - there was no networking.  ifconfig had done its job but there was no routing table.  I manually added route add default gw 192.168.0.1 and edited /etc/resolv.conf to make sure I could get to my router but, again, it wouldn't work.  The forcedeth module had been loaded (ethernet driver) so I took a look at lspci (details in very first post) and can see that it's appears to be an issue with the PCI bus (the ethernet hangs off the PCI bus)I ran hwdetect --modules and pasted the output into /etc/rc.conf and rebooted.  Still no joy.
The mobo is an ASRock 939N68PV-GLAN.  It has an nVidia chipset (GeForce 7050 NB + nForce 630A MCP SB).  From my lspci results it would appear the problem is with the 630A MCP.  As Ubuntu works and Arch doesn't I'm perplexed.  And yes I've googled and followed what little help there is around.  Nothing has worked so far.  Hopefully someone will have experienced a problem with either the same mobo or the 630A MCP and they can tell me what needs to be done.

  • ATI videocard for a 550 NVidia chipset mainboard ??

    Hi there,
I have an MSI K9N Neo-F mainboard (550 nVidia chipset) and an MSI 7600GT video card. I decided I wanted to upgrade the video card for my 3D gaming (first-person shooters). After deliberating on what card to get, an nVidia 8800GT or ATI HD3870, I decided to get 3870 on the grounds of better image quality (a 10% less framerate was not important for me) and just because I wanted to try ATI.
So I got the 3870 card. The image quality noticeably improved (e.g. in Team Fortress 2), however the performance of the card did not seem to be as good as it was with 7600GT. Now, the frame constantly tears, so that I had to enable VSync. With VSync, the frame does not tear anymore, however I can see that the framerate slowered, so that I can feel it (jerky movements etc). With the settings, the card should be blasting at the framerates of around 100 fps !
A thought occured to me: was that detrimental for the performance of my computer system that I got an ATI card for the mainboard with an nVidia chipset ? Should I have got an nVidia video card instead on those grounds ?

It doesn't matter. You can use what VGA you like (ATI or Nvidia).
Get Driver Sweeper,(http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=driversweeper) and remove currently VGA Drivers(Both Nvidia and ATI). Do that in "Safe Mode".
    Reboot PC,
    Install DirectX Release - March 2008: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=114542.msg865914#msg865914
then download latest Catalyst from ATI and install them: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx
Reinstall your game too, then re-try.
Thanks for letting me know. I discovered that the ATI driver/Catalyst Control Center (CCC) is unreliable. First, I installed CCC, but got no sound. Then I played with the settings (not changing anything really), rebooted the computer, and got the system sound (but still no sound in Windows applications such as game or Player). Then I played with settings again (not changing anything by the end of the day), and rebooted the computer. Now I got sound everywhere I wanted it. I do not know what happened.
Secondly, last night I tried to enable VSync in CCC and in-game (I got massive "tearing"). It did not work. I played with the settings around, uninstalled the CCC 7.11 and installed ATI Tray Tools (ATT). I enabled VSync via ATT, but it did not work. I uninstalled ATT, and installed the latest CCC from the link you gave (CCC 8.3).  For some reason, I could now enable VSync (from within game). "Tearing" disappeared.
I do not appreciate what is happening. ATI provides a good picture quality (and that's why I chose it), however the drivers and work with them are unpolished. For me, having a polished product is a major reason why I get the product.
Now, few seconds after booting the computer into Windows, CCC crashed. I restarted it, and ran the benchmark "Aquamark 3D". After few minites, it crashed. An error window popped up saying that "the program could not read from or write to the address XXXX". This surprised me. I never got errors like this with nVidia Control Panel, or generally with nVidia drivers (their nTune often could not work, though).
My plan now is to uninstall CCC and .Net 2.0 it comes with; after that, I will install ATT and see if I get crashes.
As for getting a new PSU. It looks like so far I do not have the problems associated with underpowering the PC (like shutdown of PC). I will monitor for such symptoms and for symptoms of overheating the current PSU; in this case, I will get a new, more powerful PSU.

I read somewhere by modifying xorg with "AccelMethod" "EXA" to "XXA" scrolling becomes very smoth onm ATI and Intel. Here is my xorg.conf:

is there something I can change to improve scrolling in firefox? I've tried to turnoff desktop effects and scrolling is the same annd also running firefox from a fresh profile. Hence, i suspect my nvidia 9800GT card to be the culprit. If anyone has a working xorg.conf with nvidia, 64 bit and smooth scrolling on the above mentioned sites please SHARE! Many Thanks!

Sorry, I don't use KDE, but it may be related to how do you start KDE: from xinit or via KDM or sth.
    > How do I determine what driver xorg is using now that I'm running without it xorg.conf?
It's running the same driver as before.

Did you uninstall it? Did you install the nouveau driver? 'pacman -Qqs xf86-video' will tell you what drivers you have installed.
No, I don't have the nouveau driver installed. I have to check if I have the nv driver installed but I didn't uninstall the nvidia driver. I'm starting KDE via xinit.

  • Nvidia and 32 bit depth color

Hii, My screen support 32 bit color, and I want to use it insted of 24, but when doing so on Xorg.conf, Nvidia gives me an erorr when trying to run X, any one saw that and know what I can do?

24 bit and 32 bit color depths have the same number of colors; the extra 8 bits are for alpha. So don't worry about color quality or anything, they're nearly the same

  • GPU acceleration fix for Dell Intel and Nvidia chipsets with external monitor?

I have a Dell XPS laptop with both integrated Intel chips and Nvidia chips and I can only get the GPU acceleration to work when I don't have any external monitors plugged in.
Is there some way I can get Illustrator to enable the Nvidia GPU and stop being confused by multiple chipsets on external monitors? I really like the live zoom.

    same problem here,
'm getting a little frustrated trying to get my laptop working with my LG DLP 3D ready projector to display in 3D. The projector itself will work in 3D as long as the resolution is 1024x768@120hz and the laptop's NVidia GTX 770M should have no issues driving the projector with this resolution.
Where it seems like the problems occur is Intel HD 4600 graphics driver gets in the way every time i try to run anything 3D, the software Im using to run any 3D type files do not recognize the projector as a 3D capable device because all the laptop is using is the Intel HD 4600 graphics.
If I could somehow turn off the Intel graphics and just force the laptop to just use the NVidia card I think all my issues will go away. I just am not having success in doing this.
I have tried to go into the NVidia control panel and under 3D settings pick the software program that runs my 3D files and tell it to use the NVidia card...but it never works.
I think everything is sent through the Intel graphics card regardless if the laptop is using the NVidia card (just guessing here)?
I also tried to simply uninstall the drivers but that did not work,
I also tried to disable the Intel graphics but it then went into some type of generic display driver mode and still would not work.
I also went into the BIOS to look for any settings that would allow me to disable the Intel graphics card ..no luck, could not find any settings for this.
Can someone help me with this? how can I disable the Intel graphics and force the laptop to just use the NVidia card all the time?
    Thanks!!

  • [nForce] K7N2G-L w/2003 Server - NVidia chipset & driver question

Hello to all... I didn't want to cross post but was hoping that someone may have some guidance regarding my post in the "retired motherboards" forum... any help would be GREATLY appreciated... thanks in advance

PS- I fully listed my configurations in the actual post

Thanks for the response... I will take the chance and repost my question and my configurations to this forum... thanks
I work for a small company and we have a number of K7N2G-L boards with AMD 2100+ and 512M Corsair TwinX 3200LLPT memory. The boards are brand new and even though I know this isn't the best of solutions, I wish to use them for some 2003 server systems. As you would expect for a server setup I am not overclocking anything. I am also not turning on the modem, sound, parellel port and I may or may not turn on the USB ports but for now they are all off. I will definitely use the onboard video and NIC with the idea that if they ever fail I will have some cards on hand as a back-up. I have included the configurations below for each server but my question is simply:
Which chipset version and individual items should I actually install and which video driver should I install in order to provide the most stability for 2003 Server since their is no actual WHQL 2003 release.
    MSI NVidia release ???
Audio driver               4.08 (WHQL) - NO

  • New white macbook with Nvidia chipset

    Hi,
I new here, and I have a question. The new white macbook uses GeForce 9400M chipset motherboard. On apple specs, this note uses DDR2-667, but on Nvidia specs, these chipset supports DDR2-800 or DDR3-1066 (http://www.nvidia.com/object/productgeforce_9400m_gus.html)
What apple use 667MHz? If I replace with 2x 2GB DDR2-800, this modification work ?
    Thanks a lot,
    Amauri.

4 Gb 800 Mhz DDR2 Ram works in my Nvidia white macbook. DDR2 800 mhz works in Nvidia White Macbook (Late 2009). I popped the two ram sticks in, Mac OS X booted up fine and about this mac shows 4 gb 800 mhz ddr2 sdram, xbench shows increased bandwidth. This was kind of an iffy upgrade because apple officially says this laptop only supports 667 mhz ram. So if you were on the fence with an nvidia white macbook, go ahead and upgrade to 800 mhz ddr2, it works. Evidently Apple's silent update to the white macbook reveals this slip-up because the new macbook uses 800 mhz DDR2 with the same old memory controller, so nothing changed, they just decided to stick in the 800 mhz variant of ram <-cheap trick. Used el cheapo ram from newegg, <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820159024

  • Driver update for Win 7 USB issue on nVidia chipset systems now available

This patch is needed for the TouchSmart 600 AIO Desktop series if you haven't installed it.
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Lockups-Freezes-Hangs/Driver-update-for-Win7-USB-issue-on-nVidia-chipse...

The update is not part of the desktop Win7 update disc from MS or HP  - Microsoft has not yet integrated it into Win7, and it is not yet available on Windows Update (it is likely to hit there sometime in January).   It was available too late to get it out on HP Update before the holiday break.  I don't believe there have been any rolls to the Win7 upgrade disks.   I do recommend (while still on Vista) running HP Update and installing all applicable updates  - PRIOR to doing the Win7 upgrade.  Also - I'd double check the drivers page for your system for any Vista updates as well,  best to do any driver/BIOS/Video BIOS updates prior to the Win7 upgrade process.  I know that some of them were created before Windows 7 was out - and may not want to install if it sees the newer OS.
As to the fix - this could manifest itself in many ways - but essentially - this resolves system flakyness with USB devices attached .  Some internal devices (card readers, touchscreens, some Wireless LAN interfaces) connect via USB - so they could be affected, even if you haven't hooked up anything to your system externally.
Not sure just what problems you were experiencing, so can't say this was the cause (and will be the fix) - but if it applies to your system - I'd definitely give it a shot.    I checked a couple of systems that had this update - I see it now on the software drivers and update page for them, so it looks like it rolled out OK.
    Happy Holidays...

  • Ati card on nvidia chipset board?

    Would my ati 9700pro work on the;
    MSI K8N NEO Platinum skt 754 800FSB nforce3 +7.1 ch.audio +SATA RAID +USB2 +F/Wire (up to DDR400) +GigaBit LAN
whilst i wait b4 i upgrade my video card to 6800 gt?
    zippy

My 9800pro works great with this board so the 9700pro should be fine as well. But take note to what Xee said, if your into online gaming. Another thing to be sure and do is... when your ready to switch from ati to an nvidia card make sure that you clear your old drivers out 100%. Dont just uninstall the old ones; rather, use a program to clean things up or you may have tons of problems with your new nvidia card. Ive seen it before.
