Nvidia CUDA / Premiere CC mismatch??

Since using the Nvidia CUDA driver on my MBP 15" retina, I keep getting weird video dropouts in my windows, and the whole app freezes occasionally.
Is Premiere Pro CC becoming unstable because of the GPU?
I've also had some app crashes earlier, before the CUDA upgrade, but I figured that may have had to do with Premiere CC's dislike of my Canon C100 AVCHD codec.
Just one more thing; I keep getting audio dropouts on playback in my sequence.
Anyone else familiar with these issues? Or is it hardware related?

Hi John,
I had actually done a fair amount of searching in the premiere aisle of the forums, and hadn't had any luck.  Reason being, I'm not sure it actually is a Mavericks problem.  Perhaps it is, perhaps it's a Quadro 4000 problem, perhaps it is a problem with my settings.  Again, it's remarkably strange that my GPU doesn't seem to be taxed at all within these programs.  AME also didn't seem to hit it.
Cheers,
Aemilia

No. Open the App Store on one computer running Snow Leopard. Purchase and download Lion. On the other computer open the App Store, log on using the same Apple ID, re-download Lion at no extra charge.

    Sergio,
The questions you are asking are a recurring theme on this forum.
Lenovo has a history of being very slow to provide new video driver updates.
So, don't hold your breath waiting......

I've had very little trouble in two years. And now I do like Windows 7 but also eager for the RC.
I've been using the latest Nvidia. There is a method to the madness of how to uninstall/delete and install graphics drivers, or madness in the method. The W7 drivers are easier.
Nope. Something else. More sensitive to disk errors. You aren't running a program to boost fans. Something.
And some AV software is more prone to causing trouble. But all you need is a good AV/malware program, and even Norton AV 2009 is acceptable, or Avast or one of the others.

  • Nvidia CUDA driver update fixes crashes for Premiere Pro and other applications

We are seeing reports that the CUDA 5.5.47 driver update released today addresses the crashing problems introduced by the CUDA 5.5.43 driver update in Premiere Pro and other applications.   So, if you have an Nvidia GPU, please update your drivers to use the most recent version of the CUDA driver.
    Thanks!

It should be added that only Macs and Quadros need the CUDA driver.  That is not required for use with GeForce cards on Windows.

    Grazie

I found a solution that worked for me. Seems to be a permissions problem. Here's the solution I found (found it here: CC 2014 startup issues : Adobe Premiere Pro):
In the finder menu click and hold on the GO menu. Hold the option button and the User library will show up. Click the User Library.
In that folder go to preferences and find the adobe folder.
Right click on adobe folder and click get info.
In the Sharing & Permissions section there should be three names.
All should say Read & Write next to them.
Unlock the lock, switch them all to read and write.
Then click on the little gear directly under the names or to to the left of the lock and in the pulldown click on "apply to enclosed items.
    Then lock the lock again.
Now go to your OS Hardrive and click on Users, your user name, Documents.
    Find the adobe folder there.
    The lock the lock again.
Wait 1 minute. Then launch Premiere.
    This fixed it for me.

  • Problem with activating Cuda Premiere Pro CC (yes, I've read through the internet before)

    Hi Guys
So CUDA is kinda getting me one more time in trouble. The first time I had to search through the internet to get  to the information how I can activate CUDA by writing my graphic card name in the file where the supported graphic cards are listed. Interestingly my card was already listed and still I was not able to activate CUDA. After a few more hours of internetresearch I finally made it and could run Premiere "CUDA-supported".
In the meantime another strange issue occured: Sometimes CUDA is working and sometimes it's telling me that it's not. In the most cases a restart is enough to be able to "reactivate" OpenCl. So how can I activate CUDA (or at least OpenCl in Premiere constantly instead of temporarily?
Note: I looked everytime if a graphic card update was available, rarely I updated the graphic card but in most cases there was no update available.
    Thanks in advance

An hour ago I've talked to someone in the adobe support Chat until I've lost the connection and after reinstalling my NVIDIA Driver and deleting my old settings, it's currently running and it let me choose between CUDA, OpenCL or only software.
    I'm using a Geforce GTX 850M

  • Upgrading MacPro and nVIDIA CUDA cards.

I'm sure that I am not the only one who was taken back by the underwhelming MacPro "upgrade" yesterday. I have been holding out well over a year for an updated to my current MacPro 1,1, and I'm not sure I can wait much longer...
So, I'm trying to figure out the best solution that will hold me over. I am a Premiere Pro and After Effects power user, and have been excited about the CUDA capabilities and the amazing performance boost it will give. I figured when I upgraded, I would make sure I have a card in the machine that supports that.
I recently visited both "tech-spec" pages for Premiere and After Effects and they still list the same 4 nVidia GPUs supported on the mac. In fact, it looks like when AE and PP CS6 were released, they just changed the header. This hasn't changed in a long while.
    GeForce GTX 285
    Quadro CX
    Quadro FX 4800
    Quadro 4000
    So here lies the frustration.
If I run out and get either a refurb of the 2010 MacPros, or one of the "new" MacPro towers running the ATI cards, I will still have to go out and replaced the video cards with one of the listed above. To make matters worse, the one reasonably priced card (GTX 285) is almost impossible to find. Not the least of which, it's already several years old.
I'm looking for any suggestions people might have, or workarounds, solutions...etc. I've considered picking up one of new Quad-Core's and using the price difference to kick up the video card. I guess I can sell the OEM one on eBay.
Unless someone can convince me that an i7 MacBookPro, and it's new nVideo card will do what I want to do, I'm not sure what other choices I have.
At this point anything will be a ridiculous upgrade from what I currently have. But for someone who wants to get a few years out of this investment, I'd hate to start off at a disadvantage.
I welcome all your thoughts and thank you in advance.
    Best
    Stephen

I guess I've been just gun-shy about throwing $500 down on a card and having some immediately hack it. But, I completely hear what you are saying, there are so many other options in terms of cards if you go that route. It's possible I might have to seriously consider this.
The EVGA 2.5G GTX570 is $329 at NewEgg at this point.  It's the most powerful card we can currently run in our Mac Pros without adding an extra power supply.  The GTX580 will also work, but it has a 6-pin and 8-pin power requirement, something the existing Mac Pro can't quite deal with.  The GTX680 has 2 6-pin ins, but the nVidia driver hasn't been updated to support it yet.
I'm still blown away that Apple didn't even put a newer video card in the latest towers. But, that's what I've come to expect from my love/hate relationship with them.
They're not really in position to do much more in the way of hardware validation for the existing Pros, so don't expect to see any new video cards added.  Like... ever.  The current rumor is that the Pros won't be re-done until sometime next year, likely when the Ivy Bridge Xeons are available.  Until then, folks are going to have to make do with what little Apple is providing, and perhaps perform their own mods like I did.

  • Nvidia CUDA driver update fixes crashes for After Effects and other applications

We are seeing reports that the CUDA 5.5.47 driver update released today addresses the crashing problems introduced by the CUDA 5.5.43 driver update.
So, if you have an Nvidia GPU, please update your drivers to use the most recent version of the CUDA driver.
On Mac OS, you can update your version of the CUDA driver from the CUDA panel, available from the Mac OS System Preferences. For CUDA downloads, see the Nvidia website.
Also, make sure that you have installed the most recent updates for your Adobe video applications.

I actually had a very negative thing happen to me when I updated CUDA to 5.5.47, it broke my computer! Here's what happened and how you might put a band-aid on it for the time being....
    Specs:
    MacPro (Mid 2010)
    Mavericks 10.9.2
ATI Radieon HD 5770 1024 MB
    1) I went to System Preferences > CUDA > Update and ran the updated for 5.5.47
    2) After the update was successful, I launched Adobe Prelude CC and it crashed immediately. Then I launched Adobe Premiere CC, crashed on startup.
    3) I restarted my computer
    4) Tried launching Adobe Prelude CC again, crashed.
    5) Restarted my computer in Single User Mode, Ran a File System Check, shows that the Mac HD Appeared to Be "Okay"
    6) Rebooted and went to System Preferences > CUDA, it shows that I had 5.5.47 but that a UPDATE WAS REQUIRED, the problem was that it didn't have an update button
    7) I went to the CUDA update website and found the 5.5.47 update for Mac, ran it and it appeared to install successfully, but the applications still crashed and the preference pane for CUDA still showed that an update was required.
    8) I called Apple, they suggested re-installing Mavericks, so I did. Still the apps crashed and CUDA showed 5.5.47 with an update still being required
    9) I searched for CUDA and found that it was in HD > Library > Frameworks
    10) I moved the CUDA Framework file to my Desktop to make a copy and to remove it from the Frameworks folder
    11) Launched Adobe Prelude CC and Adobe Premiere CC and they worked fine.
I know CUDA does some wonderful things when it works, so if anyone has any suggestions on how to re-install and it get it working again, please let me know.

  • NVidia CUDA, ATI Stream, Intel Quick Sync

Intel released a plugin for AME that does basic H.264 profiles http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/adobe-premiere-propremiere-elements-encoder-plug- in-using-intel-media-sdk-and-intel-quick-sync-video-technology/

    * CyberLink MediaEspresso*

    * MainConcept*
    * Movavi Video Converter*
    * Roxio Creator*
Adobe is the biggest media encoding market with AME, yet it doesn't support quick sync yet? wtf. Adobe gives very  little detail as to what it actually does support, like does it use  CUDA or Stream to speed up H.264 rendering or is it just using the GPU  for other not very often used speedups rather than the rendering which is what we  all want sped up?
When will AME support quicksync and what does AME currently support for rendering speeds via CUDA and Stream?

See this thread for details. If you have questions about what is processed using CUDA, ask on that thread.
Encoding and decoding are not processed using CUDA.

  • List of supported nVidia cards (Premiere Pro CS6)

    Hi all--
I can't seem to locate the latest list of supported nVidia cards.  (For Mercury engine)
The only list I could find contains no 6-series nVidia cards!  That can't be right!
Can someone point to the latest list?

Good of you to mention that. No, PPBM5 does not have info on driver versions and the like. For the new PPBM6 test I am working on a new way to submit results. It is all explained here: http://ppbm7.com/index.php/instructions?showall=&start=1
If you follow these instructions about Speccy now, you can open the Graphics section to see the driver version in use. So I intend to have those data about driver version, as well as lots of other data that can be relevant, available in the new version.
Thanks for this question. It is very relevant to our script to parse out the Speccy results before submission.

  • Does CS4 Support ATI Stream or NVIDIA CUDA?

The title says it all... Does CS4 support hardware acceleration using ATI Stream or NVIDI CUDA? I don't find anything about these in the specs.

    The quick answer is NO!
With third party software there is a possibility of CUDA support. When CS5 comes early next year there definitley will be CUDA support for at least some cards.

  • Nvidia cuda-based transcoding

is there any way to transcode video to mp4 using the graphics card?  i know badaboom is available for windows.  TIA

All, and I really mean *all* cuda encoders are total crap. GPUs are not suitable for video encoding. They're not even suitable for decoding, graphic cards have dedicated chips for that.
Nothing beats x264, and if x264 not fast enough for you, invest in a quad core or even six core processor.

  • Freezing issues with Nvidia FX4000 & Premiere CS5

Question, I'm editing a 1080p animation project in CS5, on an i7 3GHz, Win7 64bit, with Nvidia FX 4000, 15GB of RAM and about 500GBof disk space, plus an additional 800GB of scratch disk.
I'm editing primarily 32 bit frame sequences with some effects. Less than a minute into the project and about 6 layers deep I freeze when trying to build previews (lost the Mercury Engine after layer 4) and freeze when trying to export, its like I basically get stuck. Why is this happening, it makes no sense, there's enough system resources. Would appreicate any feedback.

You aren't the first to post that an i7 machine with nVidia card seems slow.  Search this forum for i7 and slow.  I can't recall whether anyone came across a workaround or solution.
Have you checked your power management options?  Is it possible the processor is somehow not being brought out of low power mode?
Do you have an alternate video card (e.g., made by ATI) you could try with it?
By the way, make sure and close and restart Photoshop after making configuration changes, just to make sure it's using the changes.  Just checking boxes and trying things could mean that it's still using the same old settings and the results are therefore inconclusive.
