    (Windows Hardware Quality Labs testing or WHQL Testing is Microsoft's testing process which involves running a series of tests on third-party hardware or software, and then submitting the log files from these tests to Microsoft for review. The procedure may also include Microsoft running their own tests on a wide range of equipment, such as different hardware and different Microsoft Windows editions.)
    Anything one needs to pay attention to?
    EDIT: I just installed it. It seems to work fine.

        * Adds support for GeForce 7300, GeForce 7400 Go, GeForce 7600 and GeForce 7900 GPUs.
        * Added support for running OpenGL applications while the Composite X extension is enabled; see "The X Composite Extension" appendix for details.
        * Enabled hardware acceleration of the Render X extension by default.
        * Added "AddARGBGLXVisuals" X configuration option, so that OpenGL applications can render to X Windows' alpha channel.
        * Added Linux/i2c support to the NVIDIA kernel module; see the "i2c Bus Support" appendix for details.
        * Improved power management support with Linux >= 2.6.14 and added support for suspend-to-disk.

        * Improved G-Sync support.
        * Fixed interlaced modes on CRTs.
        * Improved compatibility with the latest Linux 2.6 kernels.
    What's interesting for me is the line "Improved power management support with Linux >= 2.6.14 and added support for suspend-to-disk."
    Will I be able to suspend my laptop once for all?!?

    Its not bad at all. I can finnaly play games with composit enabled.
    There are some quarks, however. Like if you have a large display like 1920x1200, and play a game that is limited to 1600x1200 max (Like Doom3 or Quake4), the game will display not in full screen anymore, but will black out the rest of the screen and the game will appear in the lower left.
    According to the Nvidia site, this should be able to be fixed with the nvidia-settings, but its not.
    Also, some games lag really bad for the first couple of seconds at the beginning of a round, like UT2004, but appear to play good after that.
    Quake3 fps droped out quite abit for me. I was getting 73 fps, and now I get 53.
    Not a bad release as it fixes alot of stuff, but introduces some other bugs.
    This is a great step in the right direction, just needs to mature a bit...
    If you are a heavy gamer, stick with the previous versions untill the bugs are fixed...

  • New Nvidia forceware 77.13

    http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1087 check out here to download and test the forceware 77.13.
    just be careful because its a beta .

    Thanks, new drivers... again  , there are some very good comments  in the Guru 3d forum:

    I have been updating and testing with all the newest drivers whenever I see a new set released..... and in my opinion, there has definately been a performance and image quality increase, not to mention fixes for games, with newer drivers.
    I was using the 72.12's before switching to this driver, and I would say that IQ looks a little better, my games seem to run a little smoother, but the best thing about these so far is that they seem a little more stable with my high overclock ratio.
    Keepers for me and I would recommend these to other FX users. FX 5600 User.

    The sound bug (pops & clicks) from the 75.xx drivers is now GONE. So that in itself is fantastic.
    Been playing Gulid Wars quite a bit and these work nicely with it, but 72.12 whql seems to be more stable than this set.
    I recommend you at least give these a run on your system. I noticed speed increase, but will continue testing for stability.
    Try em out. eVGA 6800 128mb User

    Ok guys, i never installed a beta driver for my 6800 ever, but i decided to try these (was using 71.89 whql), this new 77.13 are the best drivers ever, PERIOD.
    3dmark2003 increased, the increases are in Proxymon 2fps, the elephant shader thing jumped also 3 fps, the TROLLS vertex shader is 2fps higher.
    Doom3 increased 2 fps from 60fps now timedemo gives 62fps (it seems these drivers increases 2 fps on average).
    I comfirm 100% the IQ increase, sharper texture.
    on thing i'd like to add is that it seems my desktop performance increase, pressing START, my computer after a reboot is much faster than before, is this things still possible in year 2005? i thought we left it in the 90's days, seems you can still have faster 2D performance on desktop.
    now the bad....REDDICK doesn't like OPENGL 2.0 and don't run anymore, thankfully it works fine on my main pc (ATI X850).
    Quote
    Heres a few HL2 ingame timedemos i tested, downloaded from G3D, obviously.
    Previous results with 76.45 =
    dem1.dem = 67.4fps
    dem2.dem = 97.8fps
    dem3.dem = 108.5fps
    dem4.dem = 127.2fps
    dem5.dem = 49.6fps
    New results with 77.13 =
    dem1.dem = 70.7fps
    dem2.dem = 100.4fps
    dem3.dem = 111.4fps
    dem4.dem = 128.9fps
    dem5.dem = 51.1fps BFG 6800GT OC
    well, let's try them!

  • New Nvidia Forceware drivers 61.77 turns Windows black & white

    I just installed the latest Forceware drivers from Nvidia, ver. 61.77, and upon restarting Windows XP, I find out that everything is now in black & white!  I'm running a Mega 180 with Win XP Pro by the way.  Rolling back the drivers to my old ones brought back the color, so it would seem the new drivers are at fault here.  Does anyone have a clue as to why this happens?

    Hey Kid!
    I got the same problem when I upgraded, and I too reverted back to the old drivers to get the color back. For some reason I tried a second install, and this time I found that an extra setting has been added to - if I remember this correctly, I'm at work now - the screen where you adjust brightness, contrast etc. This new setting is for reasons unknown set to the lowest setting as default, which is black/white. Raising it to its maximum setting brought back the wonderful world of colors again!
    Cheers!

    For this new bashing about nvidia i personally have another view of this. But first i must say again that i use the nvidia drivers only on 2 pc (7500 and 4600) under arch linux and not on a laptop.
    The story from my view is that the kde4 developers make a intensive use of a functionality which has never been used before in this way under linux and which was no problem for the original xorg drivers. I don't know what you works but if i would be the supervisor of the linux developers from nvidia than i would say that they have to test the driver even for the newest kernel and the newest xorg version but don't take a look for every beta or preview version of other applications which includes kde or gnome too. Employees don't works for nothing and so you have even to decide what you will do with your non-endless manpower. And if you look in the forum (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=14) you will see that nvidia have recognized the problem, works on it and have a new beta driver with a better support for this problem. What can a company do more?
    So i'm a little bit surprised that people have impatience for at example that the kdepim suite 4.1 don't use the new akonadi framework but have no impatience to wait for a new stable nvidia driver under kde4. And still again, we speaks about the first "ready to use" version of kde4 which was released since a couple of days and not years. But this be only my 2c.
    oh so you mean to say release a powerful product,  i mean tout it as powerful with all the features and then dont release good enough drivers for it for months, maybe you are happy with that equation.
    The expectation is to get what you paid for I am not a open source zealot, for all I care Nvidia can keep their source closed, but I am unwilling to wait for months to get the FULL functionality from my card when it is worth half its price. What is so crazy about asking for accountability from a corporations...is it so hard to fathom?
    Oh yes I will keep pointing it out till I wish or till my card becomes OLD and when I have to buy a new one I will take this into account. As some would say oh Nvidia doesnt have to care about all this bitching they don't have to care about linux etc etc. I am speaking for myself I may be insignificant  for nVidia  but I am not happy.

  • Nvidia 52.16 with errors

    I installed Nvidia's 52.16 twice allready. One just after reformatting my Hard Drive.
    My problem is when I'm playing BF the screen starts to get crazy.I can only see colors on the screen lol. With the older version of Nvidia I didn't have any problems.NIVIDIA BUG?? I'm using the older version and i'm happy. Just wanted to let the readers know about this problem and to see if more people are experiencing the same thing
    Thanks,

    By BF, I assume you mean BattleField 1942?  If so, see nVidia's release notes for the 52.16 drivers - under 'open issues' you'll find the following:
    "GeForce FX5950 Ultra and GeForce4 Ti4400, Windows XP: Rendering corruption in Battlefield 1942 Desert Combat.  A fix for this issue will be included in the next driver release."
    Also a mention of Blue-screen crash for BF with GeForce 4MX 440, and Ti4400 under WinXP.
    (no mention of the 5900 specifically, but it may affect it as well)
    Everyone should check the driver release notes as it may explain problems/symptoms experienced.

  • Forceware (nvidia original) driver issues in FX5950 ultra

    Hi guys, well, here I am again wondering if there is a bios update for my card (msi geforcefx 5950 ultra), cause since drivers 61.72 nvidia forceware, my OS is giving that old bad blue screen on windows xp sp2 startup. In fact, since driver forceware 61.72 I could only use the msi 72.12 driver, all other drivers that was released since 61.72 from nvidia site is crashing my os, and most of the msi site too
    Well now the newest forceware driver 71.89, is doing that bad blue screen too.
    So is there any bios upgrade for my video card, i dont use the msi update software cause i preffer to flash by floppdisk. And the msi site seems to only offer motherboard bios to flash.
    Hmm I dont think it is a virus prolem, I use Kaspersky antivirus, best there is, and already formated system and installed all over again. No results.

    A BIOS upgrade would have zero effect, unless you have solid information supporting it.
    The problem is most likely that the newer generation drivers are aimed specifically towards the newer cards on the market. Sometimes support for older cards is compromised in the process.
    I suggest staying with the drivers that work best with your card and OS.
    There is also the possibility that there are remnants of old drivers still present in your system, that are causing problems as well.
    Have you used Driver Cleaner for each driver you tried?
    MSI does not supply BIOS updates for VGA cards other than in Live Update. But that is a big risk, since sometimes Live Update causes problems with VGA BIOS updates. You could at least see if there is a BIOs update by installing and running the Live Update Software just to see. Then the decision is yours to make. If it did make any difference, that would be a first in my experience. If you decide to do anything, make sure you back up your current BIOS as we can't get BIOS for you. You are on your own.
    I think mostly it is a combination of driver and perhaps your OS health.
    Unless you absolutely need the latest driver (such as a game or app that specifically calls for a version) then there is no reason to update your driver.
