NVIDIA GeForce 650M Code 43 Error on Pavilion dv6t

Hi all,
I have recently been browsing in my Device Manager window and found that under display adaptors my NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M graphics adapter has a yellow flag on it. When I open the device, the device status reads:
"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
I have tried reinstalling every possible driver for the 650M but nothing seems to work. Windows seems to be defaulting to the on-board Intel HD Graphics 4000 and I cannot disable it while enabling the 650M. I talked with HP tech support who said to go into my BIOS and disable the HD graphics BUT BUT BUT my BIOS had no settings to change the boot-up graphics device.
Any help would be great.
My setup includes:
-Pavilion dv6
-BIOS version F.13 (Insyde)

  • Nvidia GeForce 650m 2GB fried graphics card

Hello, I'm posting because I've had ALOT of issues with my Nvidia GeForce 650m Graphics Card. I originally bought an HP Pavillion DV6 7014nr. I'm not sure what exactly is causing the issue, but something is causing the computer to kill the graphics card. Currently I have had the graphics card replaced 3 times on the DV6 and each time it has died. The first one lasted the longest uptill November. (I purchased it in August). Then it was sent off, they fixed a bunch of stuff, but not the card, sent it off again in December, got it fixed and it died within the week. I sent it off, got it fixed, and it died within 3 hours of having the computer. Sent it off again and that one died within a day of having it. Now HP finally replaced the entire computer, with a Envy DV6 7000 Quad Edition, with the same card. I got it on Monday and as of yesterday aka Tuesday it died. Now this card should be capable of running almost any game on high, yet it dies on these little games on low. The game I noticed it has had the biggest issue of dying on is Starcraft 2, but there has been no reports of issues since 2010, and Blizzard has said there are no known issues. I have played SWTOR, DCUO, Aion, SC2, and S4 League. I have tried everything, updating to the latest drivers, updating the BIOS, keeping the fan open and cool, putting an external fan and lowering the graphics. Nothing seems to work. I really don't know what to do, I have tried EVERYTHING that I can possible think of and I'm running out of options. The computer is covered under warrenty, but I'm really getting tired of having my computer gone for week at a time and the issue still continues to happen. I would really appreciate any input, or if anyone else is having the same issue. I am pretty tech savvy, so if there are some "Advanced things" that I might have to try, I should be able to handle them.
The error code I get from the device manager is an Error code 43 :Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43). And when I click on the Nvidia control panel it says NVIDIA DISPLAY SETTINGS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. "You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU.
    Thanks in advance!

    Here is my current configureation.

HP TrueVision HD Webcam with integrated dual array digital microphone
    Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R)

My problem is that I keep getting an error 43 code in the device manager and the nvidia control panel says "You are not currently using a display attached to a Nvidia GPU. The Bios version F.13 IS NOT WORKING. The F.0A worked for my computer that was running windows 7 and had the same error. I tried updating everything, but this computer is on windows 8 and its not working. I need a bios version that is working with windows 8. The F.22 version is known to cause errors. So far every HP support tech that I have spoken to has not been helpful, so I'm hoping someone on here has a solution.
    Thanks in advance!!!

  • Nvidia Geforce 650m driver problem for windows 8.1 on macbook pro

Hey guys. I installed windows 8.1 on my macbook pro (mid2012, Intel core i7, retina, Geforce 650m) of course only for game, but I have a disappointing problem with the graphics driver. First I tried to instal graphics card driver by bootcamp (not the last version, the one before the last) .It started to install drivers one by one starting with graphics card, but suddenly the screen got black and remained black forever! I restarted the windows and guess what! after windows logo it got black and nothing more! Then I installed windows again and tried to install driver from windows update. It checked for update and found the driver for it and downloaded it and started to install, but again the black screen !!! Please help me thanks.

no this does not work. bootcamp drivers are broken for windows 8.1 on an efi install. apple is withholding the discreet gpu drivers from microsoft to trick people into thinking osx is more stable/efficient and thus windows cannot detect which gpu it is supposed to use when it can see both. the discreet gpu is hidden in the fake bios setup that bootcamp wants you to install with. the problem with doing this is that the more powerful gpu is all you can use in windows so the computer runs more hot and is louder which is annoying and hard on the battery life.
thanks apple, if i knew that when i bought the laptop i would have gone with something else.
This is not correct. If you force an EFI installation on a preUEFI Mac, you will see GPU and Audio errors. A non-EFI Hybrid MBR installation works correctly. Does Windows have the ability to switch GPUs? OS X, using external monitors, uses the non-Intel discreet GPU and the machine does not run hot. If Windows can provide dual-GPU support (which they have) and also provide GPU-switching (missing), this can be done. Can it be done for older hardware, highly unlikely. MacRumors has threads with PCI Register changes to expose the Intel GPU and the machine still runs hotter.

  • G780 Nvidia GT 635M (Code 43 Error)

    Hello,
I recently discovered earlier this week that in the Lenovo Solution Center, my NVIDIA card had been disabled due to code 43 error in Device Manager. I attempted to uninstall the video driver, clean my device of old drivers in safe mode, and install new drivers, all to no success.
Also, I'm unable to open my Nvidia Control Panel. When I run dxdiag, my Intel HD 4000 chipset appears as the video card being used.
Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated!
    Regards,
    Evan

    hi Evan,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
For units with dual graphics (Intel + Nvidia), these machines uses the Nvidia Optimus technology (it's normal to get the Intel HD4000 Graphics in dxdiag),
For the graphics switching to work, you wil need to install the following in order (reboot if necessary):
    For Windows 8:
    1st - Intel Video Driver
    2nd - NVIDIA VGA Driver
To know if graphics switching is working, you will need to enable both the Show notification Tray Icon and Display GPU Activity Icon in Notification Area under the Nvidia Control Panel
        - this should notify you if the Nvidia GPU is being used

I am absolutely clueless about what is happening.
    Need help.

    Hello saurabh20,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the computer is experiencing NVIDIA graphics issues. I'll see what I can to help. Right now, I'm just going to suggest an uninstall and reinstall of the driver:
    1. Go into Device Manager, then Display adapters.
    2. Right-click on the NVIDIA driver, and select "Uninstall".
    3. Do not restart the computer. Instead, download and install one of the following drivers, based on which OS you have:
    Windows 8.1: NVIDIA Graphics Driver
    Windows 7: NVIDIA Graphics Driver
Please let me know what happens. Thanks!

  • Drivers for NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M on my Macbook?

I have been trying to get an answer to my  question re: drivers for my NVDIA card. I have searched the community ( apologies if I overlooked something), but it seems there is no answer. I am not dualbooting my 2013 MacBook ( chipset NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M). I get the error that my card needs updating.
I contacted NVIDIA and their response was as follows:
“We do not have any driver listed for Mac OS for this chipset, you will have to contact Apple and check with them.
The laptop graphic cards are not manufactured by NVIDIA, they are customized, designed and manufactured by the laptop manufactures. Also, for laptops, the primary source of driver update is the driver from the laptop manufacturer”.
Apple, if you haunt these boards,  – can you weigh in on this? Thanks in advance to anyone else who can shed some light on this.

    betababe,
what is giving you the error that your card’s driver needs to be updated?
You will not receive an answer from Apple here. If you want an answer from Apple, contact them directly.

  • "GPU enhancements/display driver" error with NVidia GeForce 8600 GTS

I am currently evaluating a demo of Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended. I am using a NVidia GeForce 8600 GTS video card. When I open the application, I get this error:
Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver, and has temporarily disables GPU enhancements. Check the video card manufacturer's website for the latest software.
GPU enhancements can be enabled in the Performance panel of Preferences.
Here's the thing - the NVidia graphics driver I'm using is current! It's version 195.62. And here are the specifications of my video card (which is about a few years old).
I am using Windows XP Home 32-bit SP3 with 2GB of DDR2 memory. Processor is AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+.
I've read over the functionality that this error message affects, and I'm not sure I understand it. If my video card is using its most current driver, what the heck am I to do? How badly will this handicap my Adobe Photoshop experience? (For reference, I plan on not doing that much using the 3D capabilities of Photoshop - but it may be interesting one day.)
Also, one bug I'm experiencing is that the Layers window is present, but its contents don't appear unless I click on it.
I'm not sure if I'm open to buying a new video card just to satisfy my Photoshop needs. Any help is much appreciated in overcoming this error and enabling FULLY-operational functionality of Photoshop CS4. Thanks!

Here is a link that may help with old GPU's. Also ensure before you update the drivers that opengl is turned off otherwise PS will use the old drivers.

  • Why does my macbook pro non-retina cannot detect NVIDIA GeFORCE GT 650M? It can only detect my Intel HD

I bought a macbook pro non-retina with NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M, but it doesn't appear on the system profiler "About This Mac". It only shows the Intel HD Graphics 4000. How will I make NVIDIA work?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your MacBook Pro switches automatically between both GPUs, and for normal use, you will see only the Intel HD Graphics 4000. When you use heavy applications, it will switch automatically to the NVIDIA GPU, so you don't have to worry about it.
If you want to check that your NVIDIA GPU is working, open System Preferences > Energy Saver, and disable the graphic card switching, so your Mac will use the NVIDIA GPU. Then, open  > About this Mac > More Info, and you will see the NVIDIA GPU. Note that this GPU consumes more battery

  • HP Pavilion p6510f Desktop intermittent failures - Antec 25 430 WATT Power & NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 650

After installing a new power supply and video card (Antec 25 430 WATT Power & NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 650), my system became unstable.  It worked fine for the first 3-4 hours then had a BSOD (blue screen of death) with kernel_data_inpage_error 0000007A and later a critical process failure 000000F4.  I've done all of the tests listed on this page as well as removed and replaced the cmos battery:
    http://www.faultwire.com/solutions-fatal_error/KERNEL-DATA-INPAGE-ERROR-0x0000007A-*1137.html
All of the tests passed and no problems were found and yet the system still fails after 3-4 hours of use.
So, I removed everything from my system and restored it to it's original settings.  It seems to be back to normal now (but, we'll see for how long).
This experience has demoralized me.  This is due to the fact that I've heard of others having difficulties trying to upgrade their systems.  Seems like there is about a 50% success rate unless you know what works from past experience.  I feel that the only way to get a system that has good graphics now is a well tested gaming box (PS3, XBOX, or Wii).  Is there any recommended or possibly well tested setups for this type of system that could give me the quality of a GEFORCE GTX 650 without causing blue screens or cause instability for my computer?
Since this computer comes with ATI and AMD parts, I presume maybe getting an ATI or AMD graphics card would work?  Regardless of the graphics card, the 250W power that comes with this system would most likely need to be replaced.  Are there are any power supplys that you recommend or possibly tested?
I realize there are a few questions in this post, but I have one more.  Are there any motherboard analysis tools to enusre nothing has gone wrong with the mother board?  When the blue screens were occurring it seemed to make strange noises from the hard drive as it it were thrashing and after rebooting it would sometimes fail to recognize the existance of the hard drive as well.  Since all of the hard drive tests were successful (I also ran SeaTools), this leads me to believe that the power is inssuficient, but I'm now fearful that if I upgrade the power it will only cause more problems.
    A paying customer,
    Zintage
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

So, using the standard setup still makes strange noises at various intervals, but not as frequently.  I have a bad feeling that it has caused disk drive problems based on the fact that:
    1)  Strange noises are now occuring during particular load times (although rarely)
    2)  Computer crashes (although, it no longer crashes now that I'm back in it's regular setup)
    3)  Occassionall it has really slow access times
These symptoms fall into the category of a failing drive based on the following site:
    http://www.lifehack.org/articles/technology/how-to-tell-when-your-hard-drive-is-going-to-fail.html
I'm going to return the power supply and game card and look to investing in a new hard drive in case this one finally decides to go to valhalla.

  • Best preference settings for MacBook Pro Retina Mid 2012 with 2.7 Ghz Core i7 processor 16GB memory Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 1024MB processor

    (using latest AE CC2014)
I have a MacBook Pro Retina Mid 2012 with 2.7 Ghz Core i7 processor 16GB memory Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 1024MB processor, doing some heavy AE renderings and just realized that this machine says it has 8 Cores? I'm had not yet turned on Multprocessing in Preferences Should I be?
Should I leave 1 or 2 cores for other applications?
RAM allocation per background CPU is defaulted set to 3GB
Also for Adobe Media Encoder: in preferences under Video Rendering /Rendere it is set at Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (OpenCL) is that the best config for this computer?

    How much ram?
The best settings depend on what you are working on. Here are mine for a nearly identical system:
It's usually best to keep memory blocks in 4GB blocks. If my workflow is more in other apps I'll switch out other apps to 8 gb if things start to slow down. Because of my usual project settings I keep MP turned off on this machine, but for some projects I'll turn it on. If you decide to experiment to MP then keep an eye on the Actual CPU's that will be used and make sure the numbers add up. Other applications and Actual Cores should add up the the total in your system.

nVidia Geforce 105 m can be upgraded and replaced ??

    Hi:
Unfortunately, video adapters on most notebooks (including yours), cannot be upgraded or replaced unless the entire motherboard is replaced.
That would only be done if there is a motherboard available for your model with better graphics.
Below is the service manual for your notebook. I only see 3 motherboards listed, two of them for the discrete video. One allows for 256 MB of memory and the other, 512MB.
    http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01597750/c01597750.pdf
Definitely not worth the cost or hassle for an extra 256 MB of memory.

  • HP Pavilion 15-p050sq , NVIDIA GeForce 830M problem

I just bought a new HP Pavilion 15-p050sq with Windows8.1Pro and after one day I realized the NVIDIA GeForce 830M graphics procesor is not used at all. I tried to set the NVIDIA GeForce 830M as preferred graphics processor but after I hit the "APPLY" button the setting just goes back to "Auto-select". I updated the last driver version from Nvidia (344.65) and also for the integrated bord Intel HD Graphics but the situation is the same.
     Please give me a solution.

    Hi @gulinb ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15-p050sq Notebook and your NVIDIA GeForce 830m issues. Here is a document  that might help you. It is a different system but the Graphics are the same. If you notice the section on managing your updates as there is a section there to uncheck the Auto
Windows will  always use the Intel GPU . The NVIDIA card is only utilized when configured specifically to run an application or when the notebook requires extra graphics processing power. Some settings may not be available for a software program. If a setting is not available, the NVIDIA Optimus technology does not support the software program for that setting.
Here is a Youtube Video that might help you as well.
    Hope this helps you out.
