NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT - What does Apple use for replacement?

I have had 'issues' with my display on my MBP 2.4 since Jan. '08. I've documented this w/ Applecare (so there is a list of reported issues so they can see there's a problem as it's not something I can replicate at the Genius bar). It's still under warranty, but my concern, and question is this...
I'd like it fixed. But, If I bring in my MBP (again) to Apple and let's say they say it is the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT that's faulty, WHAT WILL THEY REPLACE IT WITH? Another 'faulty' chip? [I realize the whole board has to be replaced]
Is there a definitive answer to what NVIDIA chip Apple would use? I've read that they are using the SAME likely-faulty product. That is not good news. And if NVIDIA has acknowledged the problem, do they have a FIXED Chipset for this model?

My best guess is that the replacement boards also have the faulty chip. The fact that the affected MBP production run all the way to the last ones made (Sep 08) leads me to believe the there is no other option but to use the same video chips. BTW please do not assume that since the nvidia chip is soldered on the logic board that it can't be replaced. These Rev.2 boards could very well be just rebuild ones with the video chip replaced at a central workshop equipped to do such a thing.

  • What does Apple charge for replacement batteries?

    I just upgraded my 2 year old iphone 4s  to a 5s
but when I had the iphone 4s, I started to notice once it got to the 2 year mark,
it wasn't holding a charge as long as it used to.  I mean the battery still worked,
but if I hadn't have upgraded to the 5s,  I would have had a dead battery within
    a couple months..
I didn't notice that myself until after I got this one. So far its held a charge for an
entire day and my 4s wasn't even coming close to holding a charge for an entire day,
but at the time I just thought it had something to do with IOS 7 on the 4s.
So this leads me to my question.
If you purchase an iphone, and something happens to the battery,
or doesn't hold a charge as long er something like that,
how much does Apple charge to replace it?
The 4s I got from the apple store online,  but because I did a trade up this time,
I ended up getting it from Best Buy  because most of the other stores were out
    of the 16 gig model.
I know best buy does 'em too but how much do they charge for battery replacements normally?
I imagine its not the full price of the phone is it?

oh ok well thats not too bad.  Good to know

  • What does Apple do for it's employees........

Just a general question. I have this topic on different businesses for business class and what/how the company treats it's employees. Do you guys have any information that could help me on it? What does Apple do for it's employees, in terms of the type of work environment. How they treat their employees. What benefits are given to it's employees. Etc. Thanks!

Welcome to Discussions - you would probably get an answer if you wrote to Apple Inc., 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, Ca 95014. They would be able to give you the information you want. Otherwise, go to apple.com/legal which might also have what you want.

Newer versions of Photoshop ships with Adobe Bridge for Organizing image files.  However your not required to use it.  You can also use LightRoom or system utilities like Windows File explorer and Mac Finder.  Photoshop itself uses System dialogs to access your file systems files.   When Photoshop display an Open or Save dialog to you in all probability its a Windows or Mac System dialog.  Photoshop versions may also have some internal Photoshop Dialogs programed by Adobe for accessing your systems file systems.

  • What can be used for replacing SELECT SINGLE *   ?

What can be used for replacing SELECT SINGLE *  for improving the performance in the following statements?
    SELECT SINGLE * FROM REGUV
       WHERE LAUFD = G_WLAUFD "RUN DATE ,SY-DATUM
AND LAUFI = P_LAUFI.  "IDENTICATION NO
    SELECT SINGLE * FROM T100
       INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF G_T100_WA
        WHERE SPRSL = G_T_IALLMESS-MSGSPRA
          AND ARBGB = G_T_IALLMESS-MSGID
          AND MSGNR = G_T_IALLMESS-MSGNR.
    SELECT SINGLE * FROM TBTCO
       INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TBTCO
        WHERE JOBNAME = FS_JOBNAME.

If you need all the fields and you know that only one record exists then u need to use select single * only. You can improve the performance by specifying key fields in the where clause of select statements. If the structure of the work area or internal table in which you are fetching the data is same as that of the database table then no need to use corresponding fields clause.

  • What color space does Apple use: for its printing: sRGB, Adobe???

My images are coming back washed out, yet look great on screen. my camera is set to Adobe RGB, so i wonder if this is the problem... usually, consumer cameras are sRGB, I think.

Apple uses the sRGB color profile for it's prints, books, etc.

  • Keys getting dirty look--paint wearing off!  What does Apple do for this?

This is dismaying. I received a brand new MacBook Pro (early 2008 model) from Apple only a few months ago and the silver paint on several keys is already wearing off! They're getting that dirty look. See http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=451259
I went through something similar with an old iBook G4... On those, the keys' lettering wore off. Apple service was responsive for sure, although it was pretty silly that they kept sending me replacement keyboards Instead of individual keys or decals. After pushing by me, they even sprung for one of those iSkin plasticky keyboard covers (which turned out it interferes with typing and some say can cause a heat problem). Eventually, they sent me a 4th keyboard that didn't wear out at all. So, it seems that they fixed that issue.
Has Apple solved this paint wearing problem for the MBP's? Do I just go the Apple Care route--again-- and do they send out an entire keyboard? What have other people experience and done?
In this case, obviously, they can't send decals as this keyboard is the backlit (underlit) kind!

This is a known issue with the Early 2008 MBP (as well as earlier models). It has nothing to do with dirty hands, or lotions or hands or anything else. Just from plain old use, it wears down the paint on the keys.
The MBP keyboard keys are no longer removable one by one on that model and onward -- you have to bring your MBP into an Apple Store (or call Apple Care) - they will take it in, change it out for a new keyboard (its under warranty for one year, and if you have Apple Care for two additional years). If you are beyond the one year warranty and did not purchase Apple Care, then you will have to pay to have it replaced (probably a couple hundred dollars plus shipping).
The turnaround for something like that is usually about a week if you have to send it in, and a day if you go to the Apple Store. The Apple Store, after deeming it a repair issue, will order the keyboard. Then they will call you to bring in your MBP and leave it for the time it is required for them to fix it -- usually an afternoon, or overnight.
But this is a well-documented and much discussed issue over the years -- it occured to my old MBP as well. Luckily, I have three apple stores all within a half hour drive of me, so I don't worry about those sorts of things. But it's annoying if you have to send it it.

  • What does Apple do with replaced hard drives?

My PowerBook G4 hard drive crashed just over a year ago, taking with it all of my Master's essays and assignments. They replaced it under Apple Care in Mexico City (I was living in Mexico at the time), but would not let me keep my old hard drive to recover the data. I still have the hard drive number and serial number. Is there any way to get it back after all this time? Where does Apple send old hard drives?

    vaneska:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I am sorry that you lost all of your very valuable data. It is very unlikely that the HDD is recoverable anymore. It would have been better to try to recover the data before sending it in, but, of course, it is too late for that now. Indeed, it would have been even better if you had a reliable backup of your computer, and although it is too late for the information already lost, it is still a good idea to do regular backups of everything you can't afford to lose, preferably on an external Firewire Hard Disk Drive.
    Good luck.

  • NVidia GeForce 8600M GT, what's the deal?

    Hello to all of you,
I've heard quite a bit about the problems with the graphics card in the new macbook pro (santa rosa) and I can only confirm this issue (games freeze, slow framerates, and stuff like that). This is very sad actually 'cause the reason as to why I bought the MBP in the first place was... the graphics card indeed.
So is there any development concerning the problem? Or did Apple still didn't acknowledge this? sigh
Is there anything that will be able to solve this in the meanwhile?
    Thanks, and best regards

    Bump-bump!
I've read somewhere among these threads that Apple writes the firmware for the 8600GT differently than windoze's doing, and, by this, is failing to fulfill the real power of the card - of course, again, not completely to my surprise I too bought the newest, upgraded MBP, complete with the newest HD screen upgrade, to feel the graphics muscle of that card when I play Unreal Tournament, as well as playing hi-res video and doing animations. The first thing I noticed upon glancing on the screen (except, of course, the undisputable fact that the resolution and imagery is beautiful and all) was this strange dithering in various portions of graphics, but first and foremost when viewing animations and video, as well as when moving your eye-sight across the screen, as when you be watching video normally. When viewing video or doing those normal eye-movements the dithering seems to be almost rasterization-like, meaning that very briefly, in those areas affected, the graphics almost look like those newspaper-like print patterns. Indeedy a very annoying expierience, when you paid a shitload of money to purchase something cutting-edge machiney to rely on for the future...
C'mon Apple. Give us some answers, will you? This avoiding shi* is only going to make matters worse for yourself in the long run Tighten up your test-facilities wouldn't be that bad an investment, would it?
