NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M (256 mb) vs NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT (512 mb)

Hi, new here, but ive been wondering for quite a while now which one, in terms of processing power (playing games, video editing, etc) would be better?
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M (256 mb) or the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT (512 mb)
the 8600M being on the previous system, and the 330M on the new one, if I were to get the new one with 256 video memory, would it still be better than the 8600M with 512mb vram that I currently have?
Thanks.

Hi so does this mean that the 330, even at 256mb will be faster right? Thanks.

  • Hi ! I have a big problem with my MacBook Pro Mid 2010 ! It may be broken or what seems to be the problem with the video drivers ? I have a built in internal Graphic 288 of RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M of 512 of RAM !

    On Mountain Lion :
It happens to turn of my monitor in different situations. Sometimes i believe i have my graphic video broken ! In my town i don't have Apple doctors so i dont risk to go to a service non authorized from apple !
For example there was a day when it turns off when a simply pinch with thumb and 3 fingers for launchbad ...and the opperating sistem it should be restart from power button ! That was when i had Mountain lion 10.7.5 update
Other situation was with photoshop cs6, cs5, cs4 30 days trial versions ...i couldn't buy any versions so i decided to test a earlier versions that can match with my sistem requirements. In all of this three situations my display had turned off after opening a image or photo or 3d graphics in photoshop...anyway sadness.
Other situation : One day i was simply relaxing surfing facebook and ...than i've just simply open an advertising link ...and on that page i was waiting to load a video that used another player than flash player of youtube. Even two seconds didn't stayed open and trust me it turned off my display once again !
    After Mountain Lion :
I told my story to to someone who holds an MacBook Pro i5 etc. and he told me to test the new mavericks maybe it's something broken in my operating system.... and believe me after 2 days of happiness with OS X MAVERICKS , last night my computer restarted because of a problem, and 2 hours ago again....why ? i don't know ! Maybe Video RAM or maybe Memory RAM or Maybe simple conflicts between Trial Photoshop and OS X or maybe my macbook it's 2 old...or i don't know ....for how much i used this mac it should run as an mustang !    MacBook Pro i7 Mid 2010 HDD 500 , 4 GB of DDR 3 , Intel built in Graphic 288 and an NVIDIA GE FORCE 512 , 15 inch display monitor , 283 real cicle counts ( my mac was used as an iphone while charging and using battery) ...i don't know what to do ! Please help !
The Operating System shoes me everytime this error !

Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.
Here's just a sample of a kernel panic log that points to the faulty NVIDIA card:
Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):
             com.apple.GeForce(6.4.0)@0x82ac4000->0x82b7afff

Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The unfortunate thing is that many people have passed the “three years from date of purchase” now and Apple is not honoring the free logic board replacement for many users. Some dealers seem to be making some exceptions for those past the three year mark, but don’t count on it…
    Good luck,
    Clinton

Why can't I use my mid 2010 macbook pro with 8GB memoir and NVIDIA GEForce GT 330M 256MB to run 3D in photoshop CC?

    3-D is very memory intensive.
    System requirements | Photoshop
    Mac OS
Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support
    Mac OS X v10.7, v10.8, or v10.9
2 GB of RAM (8 GB recommended)
3.2 GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system or on removable flash storage devices)
1024x768 display (1280x800 recommended) with 16-bit color and 512 MB of VRAM (1 GB recommended)**
    OpenGL 2.0–capable system
Internet connection and registration are necessary for required software activation, membership validation, and access to online services.*
** 3D features are disabled and some Mercury Graphics Engine enhanced features may not work with less than 512 MB VRAM. Read the Help article.
Bottom line, you don't have enough VRAM

  • HT203254 Video issues - NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M

I have problems with image on internal display on my MBP 15' (Mid 2010). It has NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M and Intel HD. The part of the image (a square about 20% of the screen) freezes and blinking while the resto of the screen changed many times. It continues up to 2 minutes. Also sometimes the image sontracts and moves to the left half of the screen, it's flicks and almost b&w. A while ago I heard about similar problems with MBPs by those had GeForce 8600M GT.  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
Does anyone know what can it be?

Hi so does this mean that the 330, even at 256mb will be faster right? Thanks.

  • Update drivers for NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M

Need the updated drivers for NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 330M that comes with my Vaio Z  VPCZ128GX , the drivers in eSupport are from 2010, and nVidia software does not detect the 330M card
    VPCZ125GX

I've updated my VPCZ1 to 340.43 drivers but it still won't accept the transition to Windows 10, seems like they just want to find any excuse to back out of their promise of a free upgrade for windows 7 users. For anyone who is editing .inf files and still not able to get it to work, you need to update your intel drivers first. The process is a bit awkward, I tried to update the Geforce with a few pre-modded drivers, using the device manager. It would always freeze during installation or ask to reboot and start in 800x600 resolution. I also tried the latest intel drivers but was unable to update them at the time, so I gave up on the idea for a while. Later, I ran into trouble running GTAV, the game would start fine but suddenly crash to desktop while loading. I remembered how the latest driver broke the intel driver, so I rebooted with the laptop in "stamina", installed the latest compatible onboard graphics driver and rebooted in "speed" mode, which incapacitated the 2010 nvidia driver so I had a new "unknown device" under "display adapters" in the device manager. I pointed it to the 340.43 drivers (latest driver I could find for 330m which still uses inf files) which I modified earlier and success, GTAV now runs. Editing inf files is surprisingly simple, just find mention of "330m" in one of the inf files (which are lists of subsys numbers) and replace the subsys number with the one from your card in device manager when using the 2010 drivers. (there are alraedy a lot of them in the inf, I guess it's true that no two 330m are the same) I've always left it on "speed", ever since it booted with the new drivers, The GPU is easily underclockable using Precision X for more battery life. http://i59.tinypic.com/swd3lx.jpg Only side effect I know so far is that the screen rotation doesn't work, although I never tried it with the old driver combo.

My old MSI board went pop, i have sent it back to be replaced but will take a week or so, i purchased a new Gigabyte board GA-81945P-G and a new MSI Geforce 6800 GTO 256 PCE, the framerate i get is pityfull, i have checked everything in the bios, upgraded and downgraded drivers, Intel chipset drivers and everything i can think off, i read that this card is a properatry card and not ment for standard PC use, is this true ? does anyone else have or know of this issue and a fix or a resolve Please Please.

  • Is GeForce 2 MX the same as nVidia GeForce card?

Hi... I want to play a game on my eMac and was wondering if GeForce 2 MX is the same as nVidia GeForce card. Please help!

    My Apple eMac wrote:
The game is called Star Wars Battlefront 1. I have a 10.4.10 version OS X. I have a 700 MHzz PowerPC. 512 MB SDRAM.
Unfortunately your eMac does not meet the system requirements, it requires at least a GeForce4 MX (You have a GeForce2 MX) and a 1Ghz G4 (You only have 700Mhz)

  • M30 404: Geforce FX 5200 GO vs. Nvidia Display drivers 77.77

    Hello
when i try to install the new NVIDIA Detonator driver version 77.77 (ForceWare) then appears this message:
UNABLE TO DETERMINE IF THIS IS AN NVIDIA VIDEO CARD. SOME FUNCTIONS MAY NOT OPERATE PROPERLY.
whats wrong?? in the listing of suppported hardware on the nvidia page is the Geforce 5200 listed but i have the go version of it. is this the problem. and if it is what is the newest driver version i can use and where can i get it?

    Hi,
as far as I know it is not recommended to use the Nvidia drivers in a notebook, because they are not designed for notebooks. They can cause overheatings which will damage your machine. So it's better to use only the drivers released by Toshiba for your notebook.
    Bye

  • Using UDK software with MB pro GeForce GT 330M

    Hi,
Can anyone confirm or offer more information on whether UDK development software is compatible with the Nvidia GeForce GT330M graphics card onboard Macbook pro 15” & 17” models?
I currently run a Macbook (2008) with the older Intel graphics card set up. This machine is not compatible with UDK and displays errors relating to SM3 shader modelers on start up, then fails to launch the editor. I have also seen similar problems for Macbook pro users with i5 models using the Nvidia GT330M.
I was surprised to learn about the same issue on the Macbook pro model, as it boasts compatibility with some of the main gaming titles. There seams to be virtually no information available on this from either UDK or Nvidia, can anyone offer any information?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
i have the exact same issue with an Intel PRO/1000 PT Desktop Adapter. The adapter is correctly configured and answers to local ping request, however not to ping request from another computer in the network.
    The OS-Release is:
    SunOS 5.10 Generic_141445-09 i86pc i386 i86pc
    e1000g Driver-Version 5.2.15

  • Will these three other pieces work well together with MSI GeForce 6800 GT 256 ?

    Hello  :hypecrite:
I have ordered myself some new stuff ,and maybe a little late to ask for answers ,but ...
Wondering if my VGA : MSI Ge Force 6800 GT 256 which I will recieve tomorrow will work well with the following which are soon coming:
    *Corsair Value Select VS1GBKIT400 ; PC3200 1024
    *CPU AMD 3200 + 2.2 GHz
    *Motherboard MSI K8N Neo Platinum
    t
    If PSU is needed : Thermaltake Silent Purepower Polo12 W0032R - 410 W ;+ 3,3 , -/+ 5 V , -/+ 12 V.

I've got same Mobo and VGA. At the moment it seems to be not possible to oc the VGA stable higher than 400/1100 with fastwrites enabled (i've allready done vmod to 1.4V, without it freezed even at 360/1020). First i thought it was a VGA bios issue, but after some tests with different bios versions i think it's a driver problem (forceware or maybe nforce or both). Hope nvidia will fix this soon.

  • Is the GeForce 7600 w/256 MB worth it?

I'm planning to buy a 24" iMac soon, and am trying to figure out if it's going to be worth upgrading to the 7600 and the 256 MB of RAM. I don't currently do heavy 3-D work or gaming, but am curious to see where else I'd get the benefit of the additional video RAM.
If I end up using an external display in the future, will extra video RAM help out at all? Will it help with any 2-D applications? Trying to get the best bang for the buck here. Thanks!

I would also say, yes, it is worth it. I bought a 20-inch iMac, rather than the 24-inch one. (The wife wouldn't allow me to get the larger one.) But I did max out the video RAM to 256 MB so that I would be able to more easily do HD video editing down the road than I would with 128 MB of video RAM found in standard-issue iMacs. With the 24-inch iMac, upgrading from 128 MB of video RAM to 256 MB involves not only a RAM increase, but also a graphics-processor upgrade. Tests from websites such as tomshardware.com indicate that for certain 3-D uses, such as gaming, the nVidia 7600 is a much-more capable graphics processor than the 7300 found in standard 24-inch iMacs, or the ATI Radeon X1600 found in standard and upgraded 20-inch iMacs. Unlike other components, your video card cannot be upgraded. (At least not at this time.) So, it would be a very good idea to get the best card for the long term NOW.

  • NVIDIA GPUs for Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 | NVIDIA and Adobe Solutions | Adobe TV

Sean Kilbride from NVIDIA talks about how Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and NVIDIA GPUs were used in the editing of the Heavy Hand music video.
    http://adobe.ly/QaVPwR

I'm playing around with the trial of CS6 right now. At first I wasn't getting the option to use GPU rendering until I added my card to the supported list (GeForce GTX 670). Unfortunately my playback is still laggy, just like when it was on software mode. I'm trying to watch 1080 video that I recorded using software on my computer.
    I have an i5 2500k at 4.3GHz, 8GB ram, and two 670s in SLI.
I have premiere pro cs6 running on my main SSD, and my scratch disks set to my single platter 7200 RPM hdd. In the past on CS5 I was able to have my scratch disks set to the drives I have the original files on with no lag.
What can I do to get smooth playback?
