Nvidia Geforce GTX780 vs Quadro K2200

Hi guys,
i'll buy a new graphic card for my workstation hp Z200 on win7 pro 64bit.
I have some trouble reading 4K footage. Actually, I got a geforce GTX470 with 1280MB RAM...
I don't know if it's better to buy a Quadro K2200 with 4GB RAM but 640 Cuda Cores or if the GTX780 with 3GB RAM but 2304 Cuda Cores...
I know Geforce is more for gamers and Quadro for professionnal use but what about specifications ? What will the best for Adobe CC 2014 ( Premiere Pro, AE and Media Encoder...)
Thanks for your feedback guys.
Best regards
Nico - from France

Nico,
Guess what? Your Z200 has a relatively ancient (by today's standards) first-generation LGA 1156 Lynnfield- or Clarkdale-based i-series CPU, which is seriously limited in expansion/upgrade capablilties. Without knowing what your system's exact CPU is, I cannot recommend a GPU upgrade, especially since the performance improvement that such an upgrade entails may be limited by the performance of your system's CPU.
In addition, your system supports only PCI-e 2.0, not the newer PCI-e 3.0 that current high-end GPUs utilize. Thus, your performance improvement is seriously limited not only by your system's CPU, but also by the older, slower PCI-e bus version. No wonder why you got practically zero improvement over your existing GTX 470.
As such, I'd recommend saving up for an entirely new system at this point.

  • I wish to know whether the new NVidia Quadro K2200 graphic card is compatible with the Mercury Playback Engine.  Thanks

Hi.  I wish to know whether the new NVidia Quadro K2200 and K4200 are compatible with the Mercury Playback Engine in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.  My old graphic card NVidia Quadro FX580 is not listed and not effective apparently because Mercury Playback Engine is effective as from 1Gb RAM. I use a HP workstation and AVCHD (AVCCAM) and DSLR full HD.  Thanks.

It is compatible, but why anyone would want such a weak and slow card at a premium price is beyond me. See Tweakers Page - What video card to use? and GeForce GTX980 vs Quadro k4200 (2200) #2.

  • NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT vs. NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M?

I just have a PC vs. Mac question, as I am looking at the new MacBook Pros. Which of the following NVIDIA processors is the best for intense graphic applications? Why does Mac only have 1 option, and is it superior to the PC options?
    PC
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M
    NVIDIA QUADRO NVS 140M
    Mac
    NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    Many thanks!

what do you want to do with such devices, work, play, and specifically which software?
usability is often ignored by people who get swayed by paper-based specs, and it is important to know what you are going to do with a machine before making up your mind, not just which processor and hardware has a .01 percent coolness factor above the other.
I am somewhat biased, for I have developed an intense distrust, disenchantment, and pretty much an aversion to what you would call "PC" software and OSes. Twenty years of DOS and Windows have left me no fond memory, if not for the fact that I know how to fix a lot of software and hardware problems (you learn when you are constantly confronted to problems, and problems abound in the world of Windows).
A Macbook Pro is a beautiful machine, and it is hassle free a good 90%+ of the time, you can install Windows if you must anyhow, but Apple doesn't sell for cheap. Mind you, most high-end PCs do not cost much less anyhow, just the low end ones.
The 8600M GT card supports DirectX 10, can play even Crysis on a 32-bit Windows version very well (I play it from time to time, beautiful), but it isn't a 8800 card, nor is it the best card in all of laptop PCs. I do consider the Macbook Pro a desktop replacement, and I have very intensive use of my machine (scientific software for academics and industry, video games, multimedia, you name it).
So if you must play the latest game, and I mean the latest, with the highest frame-per-second count of all your friends, don't go for a 8600M GT, (ii) for a laptop anyways (laptop were never, never meant to compete with desktop-grade hardware, no matter what you local wise arses will tell you), and (iii) buy a console instead. BUT, if you want to play most games, very well, and you are concerned with media editing, usability, stability, reliability, etc., a Macbook Pro is a beautiful thing to have...

  • NVidia Quadro FX 4500 + nVidia GeForce 6600 = NOTHING

    OK, so here's my problem...
I'm running a Quad core G5 with a nVidia Quadro FX 4500 as my main card. I have a Cintiq as my main display and now two 20 inch apple displays.
I've never been able to run three monitors on this machine.
Right now I have a nVidia GeForce 6600 "upgrade" card. I can get any combination of two displays to work on the 4500, but NOTHING works on the 6600. In the apple system profiler the 6600 card shows up as this:
    pci0,400:
    Type: VGA-Compatible Controller
    Bus: PCI
    Slot: SLOT-3
    Vendor: nVIDIA (0x10de)
    Device ID: 0x0393
    Revision ID: 0x00a1
The 4500 is in slot 1, the 6600 is in slot 3. What the **** am I doing wrong?
Also, would it be possible for me to put 2 4500's in one machine? I have another G5 with a similar setup...
My goal is the have all three monitors working...
    Thanks!

It is for Macs? has Apple EFI? if not, can't use it.
If you need Quadro, the new 4000 for $US 1,195.
If you need to know who and what apps benefit instead?
But if you just need a desktop graphic card, the ATI 5770 then for $249.

    Hi Wendell,
Sorry for the inconvenience. NVIDIA is currently working on drivers that support CUDA on Mavericks 10.9 with some of the older NVIDIA cards such as the GTX 285 and the Quadro 4800.
For others interested, the Quadro 4000, K5000 and GTX 680 ect... work with CUDA in 10.9.

  • OEM Apple nVidia GeForce 7300 GT is on Adobe's list of unsupported GPUs for Open GL rendering-

My Mac Pro's Radeon X1900 XT is retired to my computer grave yard, in my basement, but going back to the OEM Apple nVidia GeForce 7300 GT, which shipped with my Mac Pro, brought some encouraging results.
When I first got the 2007 Mac Pro, in 2009, I was running it in Mac OS 10.4.4.11 Tiger and Photoshop CS4 (11.0.0) would disable Open GL rendering when it detected the stock nVidia GeForce 7300 GT card, which was on Adobe's list of unsupported graphics GPUs.   So, I purchased a refurbished Apple Radeon X1900 XT.  This card allowed Photoshop CS4 and Bridge CS4 to enable Open GL Rendering.  Over the last year, the Radeon X1900 XT graphics card has been creating stripes on my screen when it is running hot and sometimes the dual displays would just shut off while I was working.  Also, the computer was doing hardware freezes about once a day.   This morning the Mac Pro shut down it's dual displays, while I was working, and I had to do another cold shut off in order to restart.  I then manually shut the computer down and did a manual boot-up so that Snow Leopard would employ disk maintenance.
I shut the computer off and pulled the Radeon X1900 XT card and re-inserted the OEM Apple nVidia GeForce 7300 GT card.  Now I'm running Mac OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard with Photoshop CS4 (11.0.2) instead of Photoshop CS4 (11.0.0).
Now, the updated Photoshop CS4, under the newer OS, is enabling Open GL rendering instead of disabling it. This graphics card's hardware limitation is now fixed, so I see no reason to buy the ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Upgrade Kit for my Mac Pro:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Apple/6615718/
Some who have purchased the Apple  ATI Radeon HD 5770 say they still got the striping on their display when the Radeon HD 5770 card was running hot,  just like with the Radeon X1900 XT.
So far, the OEM Apple nVidia GeForce 7300 GT is working fine and I'm not getting any striping on my displays with no display shut-offs or hardware freezes.
I'm glad to have Adobe's Open GL rendering enabled with an OEM graphics GPU that runs cool and requires no imbedded cooling fan.  Apples OEM nVidia GeForce 7300 GT, for the Mac Pro, is on Adobe's list of unsupported GPUs for Open GL rendering under Photoshop CS4, so why is it supported now?  Is that just one of the benefits of the Photoshop CS4 11.0.2 update?

Chirs, thanks for your info but you are talking about Photoshop CS5, which does not support OpenGL drawing on the Mac nVidia 7300 or the Mac Radeon X1900.  As long as I am using Photoshop CS4 and have not yet upgraded to CS5, I can continue to use the Mac nVidia 7300 and get limited OpenGL drawing support from Photoshop.  And it is working fine.
Today I found out that Adobe has updated their OpenGL support information and apparemntly when I upgraded my Mac from Tiger to Leopard, and later, I gained Photoshop's Open GL support for the Apple nVidia GeForce 7300 GT:
    Supported video cards (Mac OS)
Intel-based Macintosh, tested on Mac OS X 10.4.11 and 10.5.4
    17-inch iMac x1600, 128 MB
    ATI HD 2600, 256 MB
    MacBook Air intel GMA X3100
    Nvidia Quadrofx 4500, 512 MB
    Radeon x1900, 512 MB
Intel-based Macintosh, tested on Mac OS X 10.5.4 only
    8800 GT, 512 MB
    iMac 8800 GS, 512 MB
    Nvidia 8600M, 256 MB
The following Power PC cards work in Photoshop CS4: Nvidia 7800 (256 MB), Nvidia GeForce 7800 GT, and the Nvidia Quadro FX 4500.
Note: OpenGL is enabled for the GeForce 7300GT, but Advanced Drawing and 3D Acceleration are disabled.
So, when I upgrade to Photoshop CS5, I will need to replace my video card with something compatible with Photoshop CS5s OpenGL drawing engine.  Do you think the ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Upgrade Kit, for my Mac Pro, will get Photoshop CS5 to make OpenGL drawing availible and active?
I appriciate an Adobe employee, like yourself, providing the information I need to make the right hardware choices when upgrading to Adobe CS5.

  • Cannot enable CUDA on Quadro K2200

Hi, I recently purchased a Nvidia Quadro K2200 equipped with 4gb ram and 640 CUDA core. However, when I try to enable CUDA in After Effects (both CS6 and CC) I just can not, the option is unavailable.
I did the trick to add the card manually in the "raytracer_supported_cards" list but then when running the AE get the message "After Effects error ray traced 3D: initial shader compile failed (5070 :: 0)". In this case the program executes normally and the option to enable the GPU is now available on 'Edit/Preferemces/Preview', but there is no performance improvement and when I try to use the feature Ray Traced 3D I get the error message again.
I know that this graphics card is fron the latest family of Quadro and even his name is not on the official list of supported cards to CUDA, as well as the K4200 and K5200 and other recent releases, so will that be the problem? Does there is incompatibility between the new board and the software?
Remembering that I tested both AE CS6 and CC, both duly updated to the last date and the last Nvidia drivers.
    Can anyone help me?
    (sorry for my bad english)

That card is not supported for the GPU acceleration of the ray-traced 3D renderer, and it never will be.
Nvidia has changed the CUDA capabilities of the new Maxwell cards such that they are incompatible with the version of Optix (the library that drives the ray-traced 3D renderer) that comes with After Effects.
For many reasons, we have ceased development on the ray-traced 3D renderer, so we will not be releasing updates that enable these new cards to work with this feature.
If you are working with 3D in After Effects, you have many choices that are superior to using the ray-traced 3D renderer, including Cinema 4D, which is included with After Effects.

  • NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 with Apple 23" Cinema Display?

    Hi,
I would like to know if my graphic card in my Sony Vaio PC is compatible with a 23" Apple display ? I would like to run a splitter with one feed going to my Mac Pro and the other to my PC utilizing the same Apple LCD monitor.
I have a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 with 128Mb, this card has a PCI connection, but I am not sure if my card could support the Apple 23" Cinema Display that I recently purchased to replace the 19" Envison LCD that I'm currently using ?
Does anyone have an idea ?
Is there a list somewhere giving compatble graphic card ?

  • PrPro 5.5 and nVidia GeForce 7600 GT - do they get along..?

This question should probably be directed to nVidia, but since I know that this forum is used by some very talented people, my hopes are that there's one out there that can help..:
After installing Premiere Pro 5.5, using 2 x nVidia GeForce 7600 GT GPUs, I've experienced multiple BSOD's while exporting HD footage from PP 5.5 through Adobe Media Encoder 5.5. Furthermore I've experienced several occations of my screens going black for a second, followed by a "Your GPU driver stopped working and was restarted" Windows message.
I suspected the problems to be related to the co-relation between PP 5.5 and my GPUs (the "driver stopped"-thing almost for certain) and by checking the Adobe GPU compliance list and not finding my GPU there, my suspicion was enhanced.
However, on its driver download site nVidia states that the latest driver 275.33 "Supports the new GPU-accelerated features in Adobe CS5". This statement is not limited to certain versions of GeForce GPU's, so I have to assume that it counts for the 7600 family as well.
So my questions are as follows:
    • Am I right in assuming that my BSOD problems can be related to the GPU?
    • If so: Keeping in mind that nVidia states that the 275.33 driver supports Adobe CS5's GUP accelerated features, is there any way around forging out a fortune on a new GPU to make things work as intended..?
    My set-up:
    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ 2200 Mhz • Motherboard: M2N32-SLI Premium Vista Edition • RAM: 4 GB Kingston HyperX pc3200 • GPU: 2 x MSI NX7600GT Diamond Plus (Sli) • Harddisks: 4 x Hitachi SATA, total of 1360 GB • OS: Win 7, 64 bit

    Arne,
Don't feel so bad about this. You're not alone in experiencing such indifferent support. AMD, the owner of ATi, is even rougher than Nvidia when it comes to support of older GPUs: AMD has ceased further driver releases for all of its GPUs older than the HD 2xxx series except for critical compatibility fixes (the so-called "legacy support" status), beginning with the Catalyst 9.4 drivers (which pre-date the release of Windows 7).
By the way, if you don't perform any tweaking or hacking (software-wise), the only Nvidia GPUs that are certified to run in GPU-accelerated mode in CS5.5 are:
    GeForce GTX 285
    GeForce GTX 470
    GeForce GTX 570
    GeForce GTX 580
    Quadro FX 3700M
    Quadro FX 3800
    Quadro FX 3800M
    Quadro FX 4800
    Quadro FX 5800
    Quadro 2000
    Quadro 2000D
    Quadro 2000M
    Quadro 3000M
    Quadro 4000
    Quadro 4000M
    Quadro 5000
    Quadro 5000M
    Quadro 5010M
    Quadro 6000
    Quadro CX
The other GeForce GPUs of the GeForce 8xxx or later series with 896MB or more RAM can be made to work in the GPU-accelerated mode in CS5.5 by modifying the cuda_supported_cards.txt file. Your 7600 GT will not work at all in that mode because not only the card has too little RAM, but is also too old.
    Hope this helps.

  • GeForce GTX980 vs Quadro k4200 (2200)

    Hi!
I know that this have been discussed before, but I am still not sure what to buy, and would love some feedback.
I am building my own dedicated video editing machine for premiere pro. Probably going to buy the following:
    - Crucial DDR4 Ballistix Sport 32GB Kit (8GBx4), 2400MHz
    - Intel Core i7-5820K, Socket-LGA2011-3 6-Core,3.3GHz,15MB,140W,22nm,28 PCIe lanes
    - 3 or 4 SSD hard drives
    - GeForce GTX980 or Quadro K4200 (maybe k2200)
    Using:
         - Canon 5D mk2
         - GoPro 4 Black (4K)
I will be editing video with warp stabiliser, neat video plugin and a bit of exposure and colour correction. I am very interested to make the render go faster and get real time colour editing in full res.
    Any thoughts on proposed specs?
Which video card will be most effective for my usage, and why? (the most important thing for me is preview render and smooth editing, startup time, and export is not that important for me)

The table above says it all. Because of the limited ROP's, FP64's, clock speed and smaller L2 cache the performance and BFTB may be even lower for the Quadro cards than shown here.
