Nvidia gtx 550 ti, in hp envy 700-074, win 8

I have installed the graphics card that worked in my hp pavilion into my hp envy 700 -074.  The computer starts just fine, and recognizes the card,  It works like that , but when I start to play some games, the computer shuts down and says there was an unexpected error.  It only happens after I start playing a game for a couple of minutes.  Does this sound like something I can fix, or would I have to get a new card?

Hi,
Play the game offline and see if the issue occurs.
Run some diagnostics, perhaps 5-10 passes and make sure that the basic hardware is stable.
There is a BIOS update posted for your PC. You might consider giving that a try.
If you think that the graphics card is a possible issue then remove the card and use the integrated GPS and see if your issue still occurs. You might have to lower the game settings some.

    Hi,
The motherboard in your PC has a not so good history.
Open up you PC and do some measuring to make sure that the GTX 550 will fit.  This EVGA is a good model but there aer other brands just as good.  The card is 8.25" in length.  The slot adjacent to the PCI-E x16 slot needs to be vacant.
You will need a bigger power supply.  A 500 watt power supply should be sufficient for the GTX 550.
Look at this Corsair CX500. It's a good quality power supply.
You should open up your PC and measure the physical dimensions of your power supply.  Here is a list of things to consider:
    Specifications
    Total wattage - important
12+ volt amperage rating - important
Modular - not mandatory but I like the flexibility
    Warranty
    i7 and SLI ready
    Efficiency rating
    Cost
Physical size -- standard ATX PSU is 5.5" by 5.9" by 3.4" give or take a few tenths
A single 12+ volt rail is a better choice.
www.newegg.com has lots of PSUs choices.  Corsair, OCZ, Rosewill, Thermaltake.....
How to replace a power supply.
How to replace a video card.

  • Very poor sound quality on bluetooth headphones through HP Envy 700-074 desktop

I recently purchased a pair of Bose AE2W wireless bluetooth headphones to use with my HP Envy 700-074 desktop computer. After successfully pairing the headphones the sound quality is extremely poor. I know the headphones are not the pronblem since they sound beautiful when paired with my iPhone or iPad.
I have tried updating the driver, but I have the most current version installed according to the computer. Adjustment of the Beats Audio controls or any other sound controls does not help.

  • Envy 700-074. Will this accept a firewire card?

Presonus sound board has Firewire.  Is there a way to get it into our new ENVY 700-074?

    Larry, welcome to the forum.
The motherboard has three PCI Express x1(Gen 2.0) slots.  You can install a Firewire card into one of them.  Here is a page on Newegg with some cards.  You will have to determine if the board requires 1394 A (400 Mbps) or B (800 Mbps) and if it works with Win 8.
I don't know anything about the Presonus sound board, so I can't say for certain that it will work with your computer, however.

  • BIOS Update for nVidia GTX 550 Ti? I have a BIOS "not for production use"

    Hi,
I bought a new computer about a month ago, and it all works well, but every now and then, the whole system freezes completely for 2-4 minutes, and then afterwards resumes where it was. This is extremely annoying, and it really could be anything, I don't have evidence that it's the video card, but I'm trying to get everything updated to the latest version.
When my computer boots up, I see this message:
    GF116 P1050 SKU 0 VGA BIOS
    MSIMV261MS.105Version 70.26.20.00.00

    Revision Date: 02/16/11

So, evidently this BIOS is wrong, and i'm trying to update it, but I can't find where to download an update.
Could you please point me in the right direction?
    Thank you

I noticed the same thing... BUT I made 2 mistakes:
Failed to make a copy of this BIOS using GPU-Z
Updated to 1.06 via MSI Update 5 (26110.rom)
Then I read the posts on this subforum and realized my mistakes.
I'm just in the initial stages of installing software on this machine, so I haven't noticed any problems.
I saved the updated BIOS via GPU-Z and compared the hashes against the 1.06 BIOS offered by MSI on their page for this card (NV261MS.106) ==> they matched  MD5: 52ECDDEFAEA86E745C09FF8A43541078

  • HP ENVY 700-074 Desktop - what graphics card do I need to install to use a blu ray player?

I purchased an external blu ray player - "LG 14x external blu-ray/dvd writer super multi blue be14".  For some reason I thought my system was compatible.  However, it's not - apparently the Intel(R) 4600 won't work.  What graphics card would I need to install to allow using this blu-ray device?  What else do I need to know?

Ah, I should add, the Blu ray player's support site (for Cyberlink) suggested a pile of different drivers - 30 or 40, but didn't offer any specifics regarding my particular system. What I really need to know is what would be the best option for my particular system.

  • Problems with new HP 700-074

Hello.  I purchase a refurbished HP 700-074 about 3 or 4 moths ago.  I've had three problems that have plagued the machine since I purchased it, they may be related.
    1.  The browser will freeze up for as much as 3 or 4 minutes every 20 - 30 minutes.  It happens regardless of which browser I'm using.  Also I have three other computers in the house and none of those ever suffer internet delays during these episondes.
    2.  I have a bluetooth mouse that I use with the computer.  Unfortunately I've had to also keep a (non-bluetooth) wireless mouse on my desktop.  Both of these mice will work for 20-30 minutes then they start not detecting button presses or when I go left the pointer goes right.  My solution for now is to use one mouse for a while, then when it goes crazy I switch to the other mouse which will work fine for a while, then I switch back to the original.
    3.  Bluetooth stuff in general does not seem to play well with this computer.  I had a bluetooth receiver hooked up to speakers that woked fine for a day, then it would not reconnect.  Same thing with a bluetooth headset that works fine with my windows phone and my windows 8.1 tablet but only works for about a day with HP computer then must be uninstalled and reinstalled to work.  Same issue with an apple bluetooth keyboard that works fine with a 6 year old laptop running Win 8.1 and a tablet running 8.1 but was only able to get it to connect once to HP computer.
I was wondering if issue might be (as I write this I am switching mice because the bluetooth mouse stopped functioning) with the wireless card?  If so how can I get a hold of the same model that is in the computer now?

    Hello @tmjbog ,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand that you are having issues with the bluetooth and with the O/S freezing on your HP ENVY 700-074 Desktop PC. I think you should backup and recovery your computer back to factory setting. This will ensure that any software issues or settings are removed and should resolve all your issues.
To backup your personal information and ensure that it is not lost I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8), which will ensure your personal files are up to date.
***WARNING!! If you want to keep any emails or bookmarks/favorites you will want to back those up as well as I do not believe they are backed up in the HP Backup process.
Next, I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8), which will you through recovering your computer back to factory settings.
*** IMPORTANT - Your personal files such as libraries, personalization settings, user accounts, and desktop themes are permanently removed. As well the computer settings are returned to the defaults (the way it was when it came from the factory). All apps and software that were installed on the computer when it came from the factory are reinstalled, and their settings are reset to the defaults. Additionally, software, apps, programs, and everything that you have installed or saved on the computer are permanently removed.
If after this you still have the same problem then the issue appears to be a physical issue and I think it would be best if you contact HP Technical Support for repair options.
I would like to thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti And AE CS6 OpenGL?

Im going to get new computer soon and i was wondering if NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti is compatible with Adobe After Effects CS6? I would like to know if it does support OpenGL rendering with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti, that would be great

I get it, but i think it's a shame that such a great tool as raytrace is supported only by few cards, and very expensive too.
I'm not a professional user of AE, i just enjoy some of my free time with it, but i was thinking of upgrading to AE6 license. Unfortunately, i discovered that it doesnt support my video card (Radeon HD6850) for GPU rendering and in this setup i can go to sleep before a frame is rendered ( Phenom II X4, 8gb ram, i know it's not that much, but 3DS max is not that computationally important).

  • Windows 8.1 Pro Bitlocker with HP Envy 700

I just got a new HP Envy 700-249. I upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro immediately for Bitlocker and Remote Access. The PC will be stored in a relatively unsecure location and is for public use - but will have a few users who have access to install software, store private files, etc. SO I want to be sure that the OS stays safe as well as the data.
I want a way to keep someone from accessing anything on C drive that isn't in the Public folders and make the drive unable to be viewed if booted from anything other than itself. So I figured BitLocker. I've gone into gpedit.msc and set option to allow bitlocker without TPM. BitLocker runs and allows me to turn on encryption. I've tried a couple of types of USB drives and BitLocker says it has saved the key to them. I've checked and they have a BitLocker recovery file on them.
BUT - when the system reboots, it will not recognize the USB drive as the key and will not encrypt the drive. I am stumped.
Has anyone gotten an HP non-TPM desktop to encrypt the OS and data drives with Win 8.1 Bitlocker? How?????

    Hi,
Bit locker was meant to encrypt entire physical drives.  Review this MS article.
I would suggest that you install a second hard drive and then move your sensitive files and documents to that physical hard drive and use bit locker to encrypt that hard drive.  If you are going to keep the key on an external device (USB flash drive) then make a backup copy in case the USB drive fails or is lost.

    Detail information:
    -  HP ENVY 700-210XT CTO Desctop PC
    -  One VGA port and one DVI-D port (used DVI-D to DVI-D cable to connect to second monitor)
    -  video card is a buildin card on motherboard
    -  Two monitors: AOC 10X16, Acer 12X15 (with both VGA and DVI-D ports)  and both working perfectly if connected to computer thru VGA cable.
    -  When start computer, both monitors showing 'HP' and circle of stars to indicate Window is starting (so I think DVI-D connection and is fine).
    -  Then second (DVI-D) monitor shows no signal and VGA monitor continues and everything is fine.
    -  If I go to Devices/Project/Second screen and choose any of the options: Duplicate/ExtendSecond screen only, nothing shows.  After awhile, system says can't find second monitor.
    Questions:
    1) if it is OK to use two different kinds/sizes of monitors?
    2) what else I can do to make the computer to use the DVI-D monitor?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
If you can't see the basic HP UEFI boot menu information with a DVI connection then you have a hardware issue. It's either your monitors or DVI cable or the DVI port on your PC. It's definitely not a software issue as digital drivers don't get loaded until later in the Windows boot process.
Test the monitors and the DVI cable on another PC to ensure that they work correctly.  Alternatively, try a different DVI cable and monitor on your PC.

    Hi,
Are you looking to capture input video or just output?
S-Video graphics cards are pretty much out of manufacture.  Look for a NVIDIA GT 9500 if you want output.  MS Windows 8 does show compatibility with the NVIDIA GT 9500.  There are several GT 9500 models listed as compatible.

  • Intel Rapid Storage Technology and the Envy 700-330qe

I have a new Envy 700-330qe CTO. One of the suggested driver updates on the hp support is for Intel Rapid Storage Technology. I initially thought that this was a driver for hardware like my old Pavilion had (it had an Intel Matrix Storage Manager board which managed RAID 0, 1, or 0+1).  Now I see that it is a RAID software emulation program. Nowhere in the documention that came with the machine is there any mention of this machine's capability to run any form of RAID. I do have two HDD's and they are the same size, so theoretically I could run RAID 0 or 1 if I so choose, but nowhere is there any mention of a way to do this. I did see that the BIOS must be set to run RAID.
I am NO expert. I was wondering where I can find further into on how to set up a machine with RAID. Thus far, I have not even taken a peek at the BIOS (not even sure how to do this, so some of you may think I am stupid). I guess I get a  bit bent out of shape when a product has features that should be out in the open but appear to be hidden. Any help would be reallyhl appreciated.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
I am sure that you noticed that the HP configurator doesn't offer an option to cache a RAID configuration.  The Intel IRST MSATA caching functionality does rely on the RAID setup process to activate caching on one HD.

    Hi,
Generally this Intel posted document will assist you with the standard support resolutions.
Read through this Intel document for using a custom resolution.
Additionally, you might want to try a native DVI-D dual link cable with using adapters.
