NVidia GTX 970 loses compatibility with OS X 10.10.2 updates

Hi
Running a MacPro (early 2009), 2.66 Quad-Core Intel Xeon. Recently installed an NVidia GTX 970 GPU to aid in video and graphics production. Upgraded to Yosemite from Mavericks and installed the NVidia web-driver (343.02.02f02) and CUDA panel and had it working fine.
I ran software update today to get my printer set up (HP F380) with the drivers provided through Apple Software Update, as directed by the HP website. Updates pictured below.
When I restarted my Mac, as prompted by OS X. The display failed to display. Using my (trusty old) Macbook to screen share to see what was going on revealed that the current NVidia web-driver is incompatible with, I assume, something in that update list. Looking at the NVidia section of the System Preferences shows the NVidia options greyed out and the OS X Drivers option selected. Pictured below.
Contacted NVidia to check I had the right driver. They claimed the card wasn't supported in OS X and that I should ask Apple. So here it is. Anyone else have or know of this issue or, even better, know a way around it?
Thanks in advance.
Kevin

There has been some issues reported surrounding the Nvidia GTX 970 addressing memory above 3.5 GB (it comes with 4 GB Ram).
I think this issue is likely a non issue with Premier or other cc products.
Does anyone have experience with either the GTX970 or GTX980 that you would like to share.
I am considering the CC version and these cards appear as if they would do well in a probably configured machine.

  • Is AMD Radeon r7 260x or Nvidia Gtx 750 Ti compatible with my PC?

Hi, I have a dell inspiron 3847 with intel core -5-4460 @3.2 GHZ proccessor and integrated intel hd graphics 4600.  I think my power supply has 300 watts but I am not sure.  I was wondering if an AMD Radeon r7 260x graphics card or an Nvidia gtx 750 ti card would be compatible with my PC.  I know that the nvidia card uses less power but it costs 40 dollars more so if an amd card can go with my power supply then I will get that.  Any help would be appreciated thanks.

R7 260X requires much larger power supply.    750 TI versions may need secure boot turned off.
ANY card longer than about 8.1 inches is not going to physically fit into the case.

  • MSI GTX 680 Lightning compatibility with Windows 64/ Asus P6T Deluxe MB

I purchased a GTX 680 Lightning on Dec. 16.  I've been having random PC lockups and Driver hangs/restarts. Here's what I have done so far to try and remedy the problem:
-started with MSI Afterburner version 2.2.5 BETA and Nvidia ( MSI provided ) drivers 301.42, and standard bios .
-upgraded to various newer versions of NVidia drivers, BETA and WHQL. Usually the newer drivers become even more unstable.
    -Upgraded to Afterburner 2.3
-I had the original bios versions first shipped with the card, I have since updated the BIOS:
            from 80.04.09.00.F7  --> 80.04.28.00.39
            from 80.04.09.00.F8  --> 80.04.28.00.3A  ( LN2 )
-NVidia control panel settings left at default, with Global/all profiles set to "prefer maximum performance".
-I originally had a GTX295 installed, so all drivers etc. were fully removed, followed by clean install of 301.40
-Afterburner 2.3.0 is installed, Core voltage is set to +12mv, and the power limit is set to 178%
-memtest run for hours on my memory, zero faults.
-furmark run for hours, no crashes
-3dmark run repeatedly with varying overclock settings in Afterburner, no crashes
The updated LN2 BIOS seems to be sllightly more stable, but I still see random crashes when running Windows media player, VLC Player, Internet Explorer. Its definately a problem between windows multimedia and the Nvidia drivers.  I can play Skyrim maxxed out, for hours, yet when I first login to the computer and run IE, it sometimes locks up.
I've had the driver stop and recover while Afterburner is monitoring on-screen, and sometimes the CPU load will spike to 100% at the crash, yet sometimes it does not. GPU power voltage always sits at 0.987 or 1.212V. matching the power spec expected for the LN2 BIOS.
I've had GPU-Z cause at least 1 lockup, with the screen blanking red. Only 1.
My next step will be to try updated drivers again, now that the bios has been updated. I may also downgrade Afterburner to 2.2.5 BETA.
Does anyone have any other recommendations I can try?  Can someone point me to the latest BIOS version for the card ( or can i try that hybrid BIOS now available? )
At what point do I give up and RMA the card?
    Card S/N is 602-V283-02SB1206030939
    Windows 7 Professional 64
    Corsair 12GB mem, matched sticks
69 GB SSD for the OS, a Raptor 320GB disk for the rest
Antec True Power Quattro 1000W power supply
    Asus P6T Deluxe MB   ( not v2 )
    Intel I7 cpu 2.93 Ghz

I'm going on 3 days of stable performance. I made 2 changes:
    1) core voltage in MSI afterburner upped to +87mV, power limit at 150%.
    2) I have an ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard, and am running the UPU-6 engine. This utility is designed to let the motherboard auto-switch from max power savings -> medium power savings -> max performance ( 100% CPU ) -> turbo mode (O/C CPU ).   I had this set on Auto, and I have re-set it manually to max-performance.
I think the EPU-6 engine was the problem, I am waiting for a few more days stability to prove the theory.
EUP-6 will lower your clock speed when idling, and then bump up your performance when you start doing things.  In my case I would go from playing a game ( Skyrim) to running IE, and EPU-6 would change modes DOWN.  In reverse, I would be doing nothing. then run IE or media player, and EPU-6 would change modes UP. Those state changes are where I think I was getting blackscreens and lockups.
I still don't understand it exactly, I think the combination of my MB changing power/performance AND the GTX680 also changing performce creates some kind of conflict.  I have had the Afterburner graph going when the driver crashed, and it shows the GPU power maxing out when the driver crashed. All other graphs bottom out ie. the whole card "hiccups".
So I will put the core voltage back to defaults, and also set the Nvidia display/performance options all back to defaults, and keep the EPUJ-6 engine stuck on max-performance, which is basically leaving the MB running at 100% stock CPU and power.  I expect that will prove stable and resolve the problem.
    Crossing my fingers.

  • P7N Diamond ang Nvidia GTX 260-280, compatibility

    Hello,
I would like to change my two video cards, nvidia 8800 GTS 512 in SLI, with 2 new GTX 260 or 280 in SLI mode.
Does my motherboard will support thoses cards ?
I've been told that each GTX280 needs one connection PCI express 6 pins and one connection PCI express 8 pins, so for two cards in SLI ...
    Thank you for your reply.

    Exactly, it's the "dark power pro 750W" but 6 rails of 12 V and 20 A each (60A agregate)

Soon I will be upgrading my pcand cant be sure from my research that the msi GTX 770 lightning is compatible with the msi 990xa-gd55 motherboard.  So I thought I'd ask for a proffesional opinion.  Thanks

  • Gtx 750 ti compatibility with m93p 10a8 sff?

okay so am planning to upgrade by the next few weeks and i want to know if This graphic card is compatible and is the vga on it removable if i want to put a low profile bracket on it or i have to do some crazy stuff on it to be able to remove it?

It should be obvious that none of us has actually attempted to use that MSI card in an M93p SFF case.  So you're not going to get any additional information that we have not already shared... which is based on our own perusal of web pages describing products and their dimensions.  You're just going to have to go with what seems to make the most sense, and be prepared to return it if something doesn't work.
As I have repeated said, I HAVE used the Sapphire AMD R7-250 1GB DDR5 single-slot single-wide low-profile card in a multiple M930 SFF machines, and it works perfect.  Fits, and runs with 240W PSU just fine.  So in worst case that's your fallback, and it will still be superior to the built-in Intel HD 4600 graphics.
Note the dimensions shown for this R7-250 card, as well as the picture which absolutely shows a low-profile PCB card with matching low-profile bracket.  The dimensions are 170mm (6.69") x 67mm (2.64") x 18mm (.71").  The card is absolutely a single-slot single-width low-profile PCB with low-profile bracket attached.
Now compare that to the single-fan double-slot double-wide Gigabyte card (i.e. the correct one that I pointed to, priced sensibly and with the multiple DP,. DVI and 2xHDMI digital connectors and no VGA)  This one purports to be 175mm (6.97") long by 121mm (4.76") high by 42mm (1.65") thick.  The length sounds ok, and the double-thickness is understandable from its double-slot form factor.  But I am absolutely certain that the 121mm (4.76") height dimension cannot possibly be correct for the low-profile bracket.  This can only be measured with the full-size bracket attached, as that clearly is not low-profile size.  But with the low-profile (included in the box) bracket installed I would guess it now probably matches the size of the PCB card itself, which although not actually provided certainly looks from the picture to be about 1/2 the size of the full-size bracket and also looks very similar to the height of the AMD R7-250.
And finally, there is the double-fan single-slot double-wide MSI version of the card.  This one (which has DVI and HDMI, but no DP) shows as 5.75" by 2.72" (sounds correct for low-profile bracket size height) by 1.5" (double-thick, single-slot).  Again, this sounds good, being in fact more than 1" shorter than the Gigabyte card.  But then the Gigabyte card's length matches that of the AMD R7-250, which for sure fits in the SFF case anyway.
That's the best I can offer.  All three cards should work once the low-profile brackets are attached.  That's just a guess however, for the two GTX 750ti cards that I've never actually used myself.
Look... these multple web site descriptions seem to be using the same pictures, but have different (and seemingly impossible) dimensions, so I can't help that.  Just contact the seller and ask for specifics, and buy what you believe will fit and work problem-free, and hope for the best.  If not, you'll just have to react.

  • Does anyone know if the NVIDIA GTX 680 is compatible with Premier Pro 6?

I am looking for a graphics card to utilize the mercury graphics engine.  Does anyone know if the GTX 680 works with Premier Pro 6?

    Bill,
If I recall correctly, the only system difference between
the two scores was 24GB RAM @#1 instead of 12GB @#17.
It came as something of a surprise that doubling the RAM
was able to knock down MPEG-2 encoding by more than 50%.
I also seem to recall that once this fact was known... most everyone
doubled their RAM within a couple of weeks resulting in my stay
at the top of the list being pretty brief!

  • Nvidia GTX 970 and Matrox Mojito MAX Premiere Pro CC 2014

    Good day everyone,
I am building a workstation and I would like to ask, if I can use both of the cards, The GTX970 for rendering and Matrox Mojito MAX for monitoring? I know, that Matrox card is hardware accelerating h.264, but is it faster than GTX970? If i can use this combo, how can I set? If i set the Mojito to preview, can I set the Mercury settings in the project settings for GTX970? Will it work? Thank you for respond.

The Matrox hardware has nothing to do with the Mercury settings. When you go to File > Export > Media, you will have options for "H.264" and "Matrox H.264" - choose the Matrox option as "Format" and then you will see dozens of presets to choose from. These will use the Matrox Max hardware acceleration. You can do your own test between similar presets (Adobe and Matrox) and decide for yourself which works better for you. Again, this only affects EXPORT and not "editing" in Premiere.
    Thanks

  • Browser compatibility with 10.6.8 and security update

Hi. I'm running Snow Leopard (v10.6.8) on a mid-2010 quad-core Mac Pro. According to Apple Support, Safari v5.1.10 (which I am running) is the recommended version for this OS. It works great except that every so often I get a warning about Safari not being able to verify the identity of the website "name" and I have to flush the DNS Cache using a Terminal command which I found online. When I was connected to the internet using Airport, the warning was popping up frequently but after switching to an ethernet connection it's much less of an issue. Is this something I'll just have to live with or is there anything else I can do?
My next question concerns the Security Update 2013-004 that Software Update displays as being an available update. I've read a little about it and it seems to apply mostly to the newer Mac operating systems. Should I just ignore it or will it be of any benefit to me? I don't want to download and install it if I don't really need it.
Lastly, is there a particular version of Firefox that anyone would recommend for 10.6.8? I think Firefox 18 was the first version that would work w/ Snow Leopard. How much higher should I go?

What is your objection to not simply upgrading OS X to Mavericks?
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later

             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • " Screen Tearing" with EVGA GTX 970

    Hi everyone,
when watching clips with movement or moving windows on windows somewhere else I get the "tearing effect" on my monitor. Meaning I see vertical lines while movement on my monitors, mainly in the middle. I do not see this line in PP CC 2014.
I am running the following hardware:
EVGA GTX 970 FTW Acx 2.0
Monitor 1: EIZO FS 2333, 60 Hz, HDMI
    Monitor 2: quite old Acer on 1.600 x 1200, 60 Hz, DVI
    Windows 7 professional 64 bit
    latest Nvidia drivers
latest version of PP CC 2014
latest version of EVGA Precision X 16
I've heard about a view possible solution:
    - activation V-Sync on Nvidia drivers (problem is monitor and graphic card are waiting for each other, monitor Hz will be downgraded)
    - lowering Hz value under windows for monitors
    - updating drivers (I did)
    - Installing latest directX drivers? Do I need this?
I am wondering if the GTX 970 is to fast my old Acer monitor? Maybe the EIZO can handle 60 Hz, the Acer not? Can that be a problem?
My GTX is slightly overclocked, nevertheless that problem has been there before OC.
Are there any windows setting, windows service settings, to fix this? Any specific BIOS or Nvidia settings required?
I'd really appreciate your help and experience.
    Best,
    Alex

    Thx for reply.
I've tried all options. Having Vsync "adaptive" / on does slight help but not at all. Also did update DirectX, no success.
My GTX 970 come up with good results, can it still be a defect? Both monitors can manage 60 Hz, so that can't be a problem.
I will reinstall windows on the weekend, and see it that helps.
