Nvidia nforce2 mpc - no graphics on boot up... please help?!

I'm not very good with computers so forgive me but I'm having a problem.
I just got given a nvidia nforce2 mpc K7N2G
I already have a 2400+ xp processor
512 DDR ram (brand samsung)
I think I've installed everything correctly but on boot up I can't seem to get any output on the monitor. I've tried putting in a separate graphics card (gforce4 i think) but still nothing. I've tried a different monitor and still nothing.
I've reset the CMOS, changed the battery, I don't know if there are any jumpers on the motherboard that disable the on board graphics as the manual doesn't specify anything. I've ran out of things to try!
Any help would greatly be appriciated!
Joanne

What does it do when you boot up?
Any beeps? - case speaker must be connected to hear any system beeps.
What size P/S are you using?
CPU properly seated?
CPU heatsink installed corectly?
CPU fan connected to the proper header?
What is all connected right now, is it in a case?
no beeps... although the speaker could be in the wrong place
P/S? power supply? in which case its 500W
everything is in place correctly and the fan is connected properly...
It's in the case at the moment.

  • Satellite m300 won't boot! please help!

    Hi,
I've got a bit of an issue here.. I have a Satellite m300.. a white one..
and it won't boot... I've had this very issue before but it turned out to be an external USB HDD that stopped it from booting up but now even with everything removed it still won't boot.
And it was fine until yesterday, it just gave up.. I am away from home for work so I have all the work stuff and unfortunately without my recovery cd, but my guess is that it won't even read it..
    So this is what happens..
    turn on..
all light come on.. including power and all the white lights around the keypad..
and then maybe 5 sedconds later caplock and numlock(?) green lights flash..
then it's a dead still.. no HDD activities or sound.. just dead quite..
the screen remains black blank through out..
it seems to get stuck here before reaching the post screen.
i thought the power button usually took more than just a push to turn off? it instantly swithces off with a single push of the power button..
I think this laptop is like on sleep or something and can't seem to wak up.. maybe?
    And it has vista.
Please help.. I have some important work files I need to recover at least before formatting..
and that has to wait till I get home which won't be for a month or so..
which also lets me take it back for warranty as well..
    any help appreciated!!!
    cheers,
    Min

Disconnect all devices from motherboard : AGP/memory/drives/floppy/USB/PCI cards etc. take out the 20pin & 4pin PSU connectors and reset the motherboards
    cmos .
Assemble PSU connectors ,only one DIMM module and graphics card and turn it on and se if you get a post .
Just removed all components. I reset the CMOS. I then reconnected the 20pin and 4pin, 1 stick ram, and the video card (no ide devices, no mouse, keyboard cd drives) and the monitor doesn't show up. I also tried another monitor so it isn't the monitor.
Could it have a bad AGP port?
Any other suggestions? I am thouroughly stumped. Also the power and reset buttons don't work no matter what configuaration I put the front panel connectors in. The Power LED is lit up and it doesn't work and the reset light is off and it doesn't work.
Also noticed one of my fans connected to one of the two other fan pins on the motherboard isn't working.
    What a nightmare.

  • Laptop for Photoshop - GPU (Nvidia vs AMD) + Display (IPS vs TN) questions - please help

Hi, I am helping someone with getting a new laptop for PhotoShop work, and am very confused about a couple of things.
Hoping that the pros on this forum can help.
    1. Dedicated Graphics card - needed or not?
If needed, AMD Radeon/FirePro (difficult to find on laptops) or Nvidia GeForce GTX 6xxM/7xxM or Quadro?
    2. Suggestions on laptops with an IPS panel and wide color gamut.
Re. 1 - this is very confusing. From what I researched, the new Photoshop versions (CS6 and above) do use the GPU very effectively, and are using OpenCL rather than CUDA. Yet there are people on some forums that say that a GPU is not needed unless editing video.
My friend is not editing video - he is using Photoshop to create Digital Art. He does use all of the Photoshop features in his work. No 3D work, no video editing. The end result is Printed artwork - sometimes large prints 3 ft x 4 ft printed with geeclee on canvas/high quality paper.
Is a GPU needed, and if so is it better to get the AMD cards (Radeon most likely) that seem to completely outperform the GeForce cards in OpenCL at least?
Most of the laptops available seem to have the GTX 6xxM or 7xxM cards, and I read on one forum that the OpenCL functions are disabled on these cards. Read on another forum that it can be re-enabled with a hack. Thorougly confused. Please help.
Re. 2 - This too is confusing. Seems like an IPS panel has the best color rendition, but then they do not cover the entire color spectrum - or at least not as widely as the TN panels. If this will be the only monitor for work, is an IPS panel the best way to go or is it better to get a TN with wide gamut? Are there laptops with both - an IPS panel and a wide color gamut - without breaking the bank?
Currently the Sager/Clevo machines, and some MSI models, and ASUS models seem to be the best candidates. Had to rule out Dell Precision 6700/4700 and HP Elitebook 8770W/8570W due to price, but considering refurbished ones.
I am working with a $1200 budget with maybe some stretchability. Any advice/suggestions will be much appreciated.

At the potential risk of your pretending to kick me off what you misguidedly perceive as your thread—which by the way you would have no right to do, since you do not own a thread just because you started it—I'll have a couple of comments on your original thoughts.
There's no reason to be "confused" here.
1.— Utilization of the GPU is indeed always beneficial to using recent versions of Photoshop, regardless of whether you work with video or not.  Whether you "need it or not" is a different discussion.
2.— Of course it's absolutely necessary to be able to work with a monitor that has a narrower gamut than your working space or even your output target profile.  In my case, for example, as I'm 99.9% concerned with high quality prints, I work exclusively in ProPhoto RGB.  I'd be in a pickle if I were to restrict my work to just what I can see on any monitor regardless of how wide its gamut were.
One just has to learn how to work in Photoshop.  That's what  Gamut Warning and Soft Proofing are there, for example.  Printers are capable of printing some colors that are not visible on any monitor.
3.—  If both the video card and/or its driver fail to support Open GL and Shader Model, no "hack" on Earth can make up for it.
4.— If someone came to me for advice on a laptop on which to run Photoshop  well, my main and perhaps only goal would be to dissuade that person from wasting his or her money.
I know there might be flak from some laptop users for that immediately preceding paragraph, but hopefully not as much as you're likely to get—and deservedly so—from Mac Pro users for your astonishingly uninformed comments on those machines.
One thing is having a laptop as a second machine on which to show your Photoshop work to clients and prospective clients when forced to, and another one is trying to use a laptop as one's main, working Photoshop machine.
Going to a laptop publication (which I gather the obscure, niche-market "NBR" you cite is) for information on whether to use one or not is like seeking theological religious advice about world religions from the Pope in the Vatican or the Ayatollah in Tehran.
5.— In the past I had run Photoshop on a variety of different nVidia GeForce cards with up to 512 MB of VRAM, but with Photoshop CS6's more advanced utilization of the GPU I have moved to a mutant, factory-overclocked, flashed ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1 GB of VRAM driving side-by-side dual 22" monitors in my current desktop Mac Pro 2.66 GHz under OS X Lion 10.7.5 and I couldn't possibly be happier.
I do run my second copy of Photoshop on my Mac Book (not "Pro") laptop with its stock Intel GMA 950 video circuitry and its paltry  64 MB of shared system memory, and it works just fine for the aforementioned purposes of showing  Photoshop work to others.  I wouldn't want to do any editing in Photoshop on that machine other than for minor touch-ups in an emergency, however.
Lastly, I feel compelled to add that, in my opinion, basic human decency would dictate that you offer Trevor some sort of apology for your presumptuousness in asking him to leave this thread.  If I hadn't already begun typing this post before you posted your #6, I might have just ignored your thread.  Considering the overall anti-laptop tenor of this post, you may well wish I had.

  • 8800, battery symbol with red line through it. Won't boot. Please help!!!

I recently bought a 8800 and when I inserted a battery, all I got was a battery symbol with a red line through it on a dim screen.  I changed batteries, tried to charge it via USB and from a wall outlet to no avail.  I tried cleaning the contacts and tried uploading t a new  OS, but it wont recognize the phone being connected when it actually is.    I am at the end of my rope with this phone and can't figure out what else to do.  Is it just gone? Please help me
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Leave the device to charge 2-3 hours, and then, still connected to the USB cable, remove the the battery from the device a few seconds and reinsert it. If it boots--leave it to charge to 100% (check Options > Status for the percentage).
If it doesn't boot--try using a wall outlet charger if you are not. If you are connected via USB to the PC, make certain that you have Desktop Manager (or the USB device drivers) installed, which you can download below.
    1. If any post helps you please click the below the post(s) that helped you.

  • IMac G5 HD Won't Boot. Please Help.

I have an iMac G5 (Power PC) which has been running OS 10.5.8 without any issues until today.
When starting, I have a grey screen with the Apple logo, but the wheel beneath keeps turning and the computer will not boot up. I've tried to start it many times, and I just get the grey screen, etc.   P.S.  I do have a Time Capsule connected via Ethernet and Time Machine was active until this problem today.  The TC is disconnected at this point, as I was afraid I'd lose that back up.
    Here is what I tried:
I disconnected everything except the keyboard and mouse (not internet/modem/Time Capsule)
I booted from the Leopard Disk, and ran Disk Utility. Message said the the HD appears to be OK
I booted from Drive Genius and ran the following:
    1.  Repair-Verify:  Message was that HD appears OK
    2.  Repair-Repair:  Message was that HD appears OK
    3.  Repair-Rebuild:  Had a few invalid volumes.  Message was that the Volume Header and HD repaired successfully
    4.  Repair-Preferences;  SAID THERE IS A CORRUPT PREFERENCE:   /bin/sh:xargs:command not found (There was no way that I saw to fix this!)
    5.  Scan for Bad Blocks:  None found
I tried to start the computer again, but I still get the grey screen, Apple Logo, and constant spinning of the wheel WITHOUT a start.  It appears that the HD is not 'Dead' but has some issue, perhaps the corrupt preference listed.
So, I need help with my next step. Would any of the following work and if more than one, what order would be best?
    1.  Use the Leopard Install Disk to 'Restore from Time Machine Backup'?  (Never have done this, so I'm clueless)
    2.  Use the Leopard Install Disk and 'Archive and Install' the OS?  Can I do this since the HD has the updates to OS 10.5.8?
    3.  Use the Leopard Install Disk to Erase and Reinstall the OS and then migrate from the Time Capsule (Never have done this either)
    4.  AND, if none of this works, I'm assuming I could go get a new iMac and restore everything from the Time Capsule/Time Machine, even though there the OS in a new machine would be upgraded and also Intel Processor.  Yes?
In any case....PLEASE HELP if you can.....and THANKS

  • Problems with Boot Camp - PLEASE HELP!

I'm having problems with Boot Camp. Here's what's happening. I ran Boot Camp Assistant, partitioning a 32GB BOOTCAMP drive. I insert my copy of XP and start the installation. My MBP restarts and boots into the Windows Setup. I let it run through the initial actions. I press ENTER to proceed, F8 to accept the license agreement, then when I get to the part where I should be able to select the Partition 3 BOOTCAMP drive (as it says in the Apple Boot Camp Manual) there is only a Partition 1 Unknown drive. It is the only drive to choose from and its a C: drive. I can't figure out why after I run boot camp the partitioned drive doesn't appear as an option in the windows installation. Please help!!!
    Message was edited by: CarlConti08

Boot into Leo, start Disk Utility and you should see two partitions, your Leo partition and a Fat32 partition of 32GB at the end of the drive.
If not, boot camp didn't create it for some reason. If it is there then check it with DU and make sure its OK.
While your in there give it a name so you can easily identify it in your windows installer.
If there is no partition, create one using Disk Utility at the END if the drive. make sure you create it as a msdos (Fat32) partition and give it a name. The name cannot be more than 11 characters must be comprised of numbers and/or letters (no special characters).
    Verify it before exiting DU.
Put in windows install disk, reboot - hold option key after the chime until you see the boot screen - select windows CD to begin install.
Don't forget to install Leo windows drivers after installing windows.

  • Help! Computer turns on but then will not boot up - Please Help!

I have no idea what happened to my Apple. Someone please help me. My powerbook currently is running on no battery (recall victim) and now the entire computer is no longer functioning at all. I installed iTunes 7.0 and then the trouble began. I had to restart the computer, so I did that and then the computer just wont boot up. It goes to the grey screen which shows the Apple symbol and occurs right before my log in then just continues to read. The green light for the battery is function and nothing at all is working. The computer simply will not boot up, I have tried unplugging it for the night and then rebooting it and nothing. Please someone help, what has went wrong?

You mentioned in your other thread that you had trouble with a cpu(0) hardware error trying to use the hardware test disk. Is this the hardware test disk which came with that particular machine? If not, then you need to find the original hardware test disk that came with that machine. If the restore disks that say 12" Powerbook include the words hardware test, use those instead and follow these directions:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86287
If you are using the correct hardware test disk and you get a cpu(0) error using it, then the machine has a hardware problem.

  • Mac booting problem - Please help! very, very desperate!

My mac was being very, very slow so I turned it off, then as it it was booting it was taking ages so i restared in safe mode. While booting in safe mode the black bar at the bottom goes around 2/5 of the way across and then my macbook just switches off.
    Ive tried:
    fsck
    disk utility repair/verify
    reinstalling OS X Lion
When i tried to repair, it said i needed to erase everything and reinstall the OS. Last night when i tried to it said both drives are locked so i couldnt. And now when i just tried again, neither drivers are appearing; the box is just blank.
Let alone my livelyhood on the laptop, i have thousands and thousands pictures which if lost, would genuinley heartbreak me. I have much valuable data on my laptop and i really dont want to erase all data, because me being the gigantic fool that i am, i only have one time machine back up from about a year and a half ago.
    Please, please help.
    Thank you!

    humzasadique,
unfortunately you’ve now discovered where the value proposition lies in making regular backups — if your livelihood depends upon your laptop, that lack of due diligence is rather baffling.
Which model MacBook Pro do you have, and which version of OS X is installed on it? Do you have an external bootable drive?

  • My iMac won't boot up please help

Please help me. My iMac just won't start up. Thank you

Does it try at al, or no sign of anything at all?
Can you boot from your Install Disc holding c key?
Does holding Option or alt key at bootup show any choices?
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

  • Can't pass boot screen please help!

My macbook pro will not boot pass the apple screen. I power on and it goes to the boot screen and the loop spins like its loading but it dosent go passed this screen. What can I do? I am stuck please help.

I also have a similar issue. I do not have the ability to to boot to an install disc because the optical drive is no longer functioning. Unfortunately I do not have the ability to use a shared optical drive from another computer either. So repair permissions, repair disk, archive and install, and erase & install cannot be done.
I cannot boot to Safe Mode, which leads me to believe it has to be something with the login window itself.
Found similar case on forum and when they ran in verbose mode it returned the following:
" /System/Library/Coreservices/LoginWindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow: Login Window Application Started"
" /usr/sbin/AppleFileServer: Server crashed and exited with status 4.\n"
I understand this example is from OS X Server, however, I'm guessing this has something to do with the same process.
What should I try next? Are there any single user options?

  • Intel iMac won't boot up, please help.

Yesterday I downloaded the iPhone 2.1 Software Update, I then lost two thirds of my contacts, I managed to get them back using the Sync System, I then downloaded the Security Update, which failed "Due to an error" and was "put in the Trash". My computer then crashed, I restarted it and now it won't boot up, it gets as far as the White Screen with the Apple Logo on it with the Spinning Bars "loading" icon underneath, it was like that for over an hour last night and I've tried again this morning and it's the same. has my hard drive gone or is there some less (I hope) final reason for this? Is there an equivalent to Windoze safe mode or similar?
    Please help urgently.
    Thank You

Try this qst... Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.
If that doesn't help, Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.
If we still don't have it, try without a Tiger Disk, but try fsck...
To use fsck, you must run it from the command line. Unlike using your mouse to open an application to do something, you'll need to type a text command at the prompt (#) to tell fsck what to do. The Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities) and single-user mode are two examples of command-line interfaces in which you can type such commands. To use fsck:
    1. Start up your computer in single-user mode to reach the command line. Hold CMD+s keys down at bootup.
Note: If necessary, perform a forced restart as described in the Emergency Troubleshooting Handbook that came with your computer. On desktop computers, you can do this by pressing the reset/interrupt button (if there is one) or holding down the power button for several seconds. On portable computers, simultaneously press the Command-Control-power keys. If your portable computer doesn't restart with this method, you may need to reset the Power Manager.
    2. At the command-line prompt, type /sbin/fsck -fy
    3. Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found:
** The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK
If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
*** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***

Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
    4. When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.

  • HP DV4-1155SE Black Screen and Wont Boot. Please Help!

Hello all I am working on an Hp DV4-1155SE. I have tested the memory modules, the hard drive and everything else that I can take out of the computer easily. Everything works but!, The laptop will not boot into the bios or anything else. Black screen, wont boot and i have the bios file that HP supplies on the support page of the site. I have looked at the instructions that a few people have posted about re flashing the bios and that does not seem to help me at all with this AMD processor. If anyone can please offer any help at all this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

I will search on int 19h....thanks.
My problem started before the bios-screen.
This is what I tried this evening:
    - Disconnected all non-essential devices...no effect.
    - Cleared the CMOS...system booted to OS!    Screens still garbled!
    - Put in an older graphics-card...No artifacts!
    - Put my MSI NX6600GT (AGP) back in...screen grabled while booting. Once in OS everything
looks fine at first. Later I noticed some odd random pixels. Playing movies is working fine.
Playing 3D games results in all kinds of strange looking artifacts.
    - Installed the latest NVidia- drivers...no effect.
Is my problem still MOBO related or Graphics Adapter?
    Any further advice?
    Thanks!

  • Powermac G5 wont boot. Please help!!!

my PowerMac G5 wont boot, power suply or graphics card? When i press the power button is the chime and then after a while (fem minutes) the fans start revving up, all with a black screen........

See if it will come up into Open Firmware and let you do an NVRAM reset.
Hold the cmd-option-O-F key combination when powering.  If the screen actually comes up, you should see a light background with black letters.  To do the resed, enter the following three commands.
    reset-nvram <enter>
    set-defaults <enter>
    reset-all <enter>
I don't have a lot of hope, in one sense, but it you get the OF terminal screen, then that says at least that at its basic guts, the machine is sort of working, and we can go from there.  And, if it does make it into OF, the resets might actually clear things up.

  • 890fxa-gd70 Motherboards Do Not Boot + video (please help)

So I have TWICE returned this model motherboard for a new one under warranty. The second time they asked me to make sure there was a problem with the board because they didn't detect any problems with the first board I RMAed.
So anyway, I press ON and the board never gets past a few leds lighting up. There is no error code because it doesn't even turn on. Things I have tried:
    Different PSU
    Different memory in each slot
    Different processor
Connected hard drive/ disconnected hard drive
Different graphics cards and 1 in each PCIe slot
I can't update the BIOS because it doesn't boot
I normally run the operating system off my flash drive.
It has always been on an anti-static surface (cardboard)
These boards worked for a little while then just randomly stopped working. The latest board I got booted up for a while then kind of went into a sleep mode that it could never wake up from.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know. It costs me $15 bucks every time I RMA this piece of crap. I have 2 different of these boards in my possession right now having the EXACT same problem!
youtube.com/watch?v=1QY99sMdF6Y  video of it not booting when it's supposed to.
The hdd light just stays on (red light) and those blue lights and nothing else powers on not even the fans.

All my cards are radeon hd 6870s
    AMD Sempron 145 Processor
The PSU is an OCZ ZX Series 1250W (+12VDC @ 104A Single Rail Design)
I also tried my other OCZ 1000watt on it with only 1 GPU plugged in.
