NVidia nView incompatible with AME & PPR (Connecting to Dynamic Link Server timeout)

Figured I'd post this discovery in case others might run into the infamous "Connecting to Dynamic Link Server" when trying Add or Queue a Premiere Pro Sequence using Adobe Media Encoder.
I'm using the Adobe CS6 Suite but from the research I've done over the past three hours, this issue has been prevalent over several versions.  In the end, I had to disable the NVidia (333.11) nView Desktop Manager applet which I typically enable so as to leverage the Window Transparency feature.  I'm not certain as to what option is causing the tried changing them all.
Here is a summary of the pertinent troubleshooting steps I followed in this journey:
Ensure that "AfterFX" and "Premiere" application shortcut exist in the following file system locations (I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit):
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder CS6\32
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\dynamiclink\
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\dynamiclink\CS6
Reset Premiere Preferences (ALT + SHIFT)
Reset Media Encoder Preferences (CTRL + ALT + SHIFT)
Cleanup Media Encoder Caches
Cleanup non-present Mass Storage devices Device Manager (requires setting the system environment variable: DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES = 1
Disable Firewall
Remove Apple QuickTime 7.75.80.95
Create a new User Account (Administrator) profile.

THIS IS IT!! This solves all of my problems with dynamic link between Pr, Ae, and AME. THANK YOU!
I too had nView enabled, and once I disabled it, dynamic link is working again. Not sure what it is doing, but it is definitely the source of this issue.

  • Very slow Export to Media Encoder and Media Encoder connecting to dynamic link server

My flow is this: Open After Effects CC, import an image sequence, go to File > Export > Add to Adobe Media Encoder Queue...
Every other time i do this it will take 2-3 mins before Media Encoder even shows the splash screen, then it'll take another 1-2 mins to open.
Next, I'll select my custom preset over on the right side of the window, then hit the Play button to begin encoding.  Sometimes nothing will happen at all, sometimes I'll see the Orange stripped bar on the lower left and the message Media Encoder connecting to dynamic link server and that'll last 5+ minutes and I end task to get out of AE and ME. Sometimes, ME will begin encoding right away and zip through the small animation sequence quickly without issue.
I have WIndows 7 Pro, I'm on a work network with access to the internet  and AE has been updated 24 days ago.  I have a subscription and I'm signed on.  However, sometimes I do not have the Creative-Cloud icon in my systray.
    Thanks,

Thanks.  I have 16GB Ram, 64bit Win7,  Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3970X @ 3.50GHz 3.50GHz.  AE is set to have maximum disk cache of 46GB. RAM reserved for other applications: 5GB RAM available for AE, PR, Pl, (some triangular icon [edit] which is ME ), Ps: 10GB. nothing else checked on that screen.
Typically just a mail client, 1 or 2 sessions of Firefox, 1 or 2 network folders open when i launch AE.
The last couple of times specifically, i had a 450 frame animation sequence at native 720p.  then i added a curves layer on top of it in AE, then added two ~600x300px  logos, one in each lower corner, then added a new solid layer which i used as a vignette. Finally over that i added a 720p still image which i held for another 15 seconds beyond the animation.
For the above, i ended-task, rebooted, brought it up again and it lauched ME quickly, then i got the stripped bar and connecting message until i ended task on that, then the 3rd time was the charm - everything opened quickly and it began to encode quickly.
The next three uses late afternoon yesterday were 150 frame animations at 480x270 and they all seemed to work fine.  I created the sequence in 3ds max, then closed and went into AE.  Then I'd close AE render another sequence, back into AE etc...

  • Import Error: Connecting to Dynamic Link Server Failed

Just tried to import file sinto a brand new LR Catalog when I got this message...here's the entire error message:
"An unknown error has occurred while reading the video file. Connecting to Dynamic Link server failed. (98)"
Connecting to Dynamic Link Server Failed
this was then followed by a list of files of these types:
    .mov
    .m4v
    .3gp

I've read several threads about this problem (because I had it myself) and what worked was closing Lightroom, uninstalling Quicktime, restart Lightroom, ignore the "you have to have quicktime" message, and import the videos. Then I reinstalled Quicktime.
But, I think the problem isn't quicktime itself; I think it's something to do with iTunes. During Quicktime uninstallation, it said that iTunes was open. I disagreed, but Task Manager showed the process still running. I had to kill it manually to complete the uninstall.
So, just a thought, maybe check to be sure iTunes isn't running before trying the Lightroom import? One never knows....

  • Media encoder is hanging on 'connecting to dynamic link server' ?

I am trying to export a short after effect file but when i try i use media encoder and add the file to the que it just pops up saying connecting to dynamic link server ' and just hang there  Any ideas ?

Just to add this is CC and a premier pro file will work but not an after effects one ? So basically i cant export my after effect files !!!

  • Connecting to dynamic link server - FAILED - second time

I bought the creative cloud membership and I use after effects for my projects then send them over to media encoder for rendering.
At first when I would send it over to media encoder it worked just fine, then SUDDENLY, one day, it stopped worked and it would say  "connecting to dynamic link server failed".
I deleted the program and re installed it and it did the trick...However, AGAIN, this same problem and unexpectedly risen. I do not want to be deleting and installing every-time this happens.
I have a brand new windows 8.1 computer and I do not know why this is happening. any fixes?

Something is running that is preventing dynamic link from opening. It could be any one of a host of programs. Open up your Task Manager (Activity monitor if you are having the same problem and are on a Mac) and check for all running programs to see which one is hanging. Then either update or uninstall the app that is causing the problem.
If you don't find anything there try purging memory and disk cache first and then allocate more memory to other apps in AE's preferences.

  • Connecting to Dynamic Link server failed

I am using an HP Desktop computer:
    - 24 GBs RAM
    - Quad Core i7
    - NVIDIA GTX-580 GPU
    - Windows 7 Professional
I have Master Collection CS6 and I'm not sure if Dynamic Link ever worked properly for me. But I am experiencing 2 issues:
1). When I use Media Encoder, I want to use "File" > "Add After Effects Composition..." or "Premiere Pro Sequence..." and can't progress further. When I try to bring in the Premiere Pro sequence, I get a loading bar, but it never loads the sequence. When I try to bring in the After Effects composition, I get the message "Connecting to the Dynamic Link server failed."
2). When I open a squence in Premiere Pro that has a clip that is Dynamically Linked to After Effects, the clip will show in the timeline as media not found or available. I have to try and relink it to make it work. This would be a huge hassell if I have many clips that are dynamically linked.
I have tried virus scans, reinstalling the software and checking to make sure the firewall is not blocking the Adobe protocols. Nothing seems to work. I unfortunately have never been able to use Dynamic Link until I got a computer that was speedy enough that would allow me to run Premiere and After Effects at the smae time! :-) Is anyone else having this issue and is there a solution?
    Here are some screen shots:

I've been searching/troubleshooting for days, none of the firewall, new shortcuts in folder, antivirus, you name it I tried it even wiped my system which seemed to work at first..
What did it for me in the end was I had Dxtory (a software recorder, for recording gameplay) running on startup, and somehow it interfered with only Premiere projects in Media Encoder, I could still import AE projects go figure.
Check all the programs you have running or use sometimes, if they have some sort of hook into other programs/deal with video/codecs this could be your problem too!
Thanks to everyone trying to solve this problem!

  • Import movie from iPhone gives "An unknown error has occurred while reading the video file. Connecting to Dynamic Link server failed. (1)

Tried previous suggestions about purging the Camera Raw Cache and I raised it to 20.0 GB.
Still lightroom fails to read most of the videos that I create on my iPhone 6 plus.
Aperture, iMovie, and Image Capture have no problem with these files.
    Respectfully,
    Kay Fisher

This is an iPhoto problem. It is, IMHO, one of the worst photo/video programs ever thought up by any company.
I suggest you find your original video files, which won't contain any edits and or adjustment you have made in iPhoto, and copy them to some other folder on your drive that you create and then import them to LR.
Usually iPhoto stores all original image and video files in a folder called Masters buried deep inside the iPhoto Photolibrary package folder. Which makes almost impossible for any normal computer user to get to.
Next time you are in the market for a new computer think long and hard before you drink the Apple Mac Cool-aid.

  • Connecting to Dynamic Link server

A collegue and I are working in Premiere Pro CS6 and After Effects CS6 for graphics...
The idea is I've built the sequences in Premiere while he builds the primary core graphics in After Effects, I Import AE Comps and we're ready to roll... He can edit the files as necessary and I need to output the files as we see fit...
The problem is he can import AE Comps whenver he wants to, I on the other hand can't get anything to import, except for a "NEW AE COMP"...
I really need a fix and have been looking for answers around Adobe Forums for a few hours and haven't found any, except a reinstall - NOT a good option by the way...
It would be great to have an answer...
    Ideas? Anyone?
    Processor  2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  32 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)
    Storage 25 TB External
    Thanks,
    Ted

nothing... The app's loading bar (bottom center) runs and that's it, I can navigate to an .aep file, however, the comps do not read into the right pane... only the loading bar...
I can add a new one, edit it, etc...
I can import an additional PP sequence as well... However, once I select the sequence I get the mac spinning candy of death until I force quit Premiere and restart...
In addition, it takes 20 minutes to render for preview a 292 frame file using a chroma key and motion with text...
I have a feeling I have to nuke my machine and start from scratch...

  • Adobe Media Encoder Dynamic Link Server NOT CONNECTING to Premiere Pro

I have Media Encoder CS5, as part of the Creative Suite 5. My programs say that I have no updates to install, so everything is up to date.
I am having an issue with the dynamic link server.
Here's what has happened thus far.
Recently when I have tried to encode a project sequence from Adobe Premiere Pro it DOES NOT work. This is the first time that has happened.
I repeated the process and again, it still happened, unable to connect to the Dynamic Link.
The Error messages that I was getting was "could not read from source. Check if it has been moved or been deleted"
Once, I received this, I went to check to see if all files were linked properly, and they were. Everything was rendered and all was good in the timeline and the project itself.
Yet, again, the error message appeared.
Then I tested a previous project that I knew had been exported and worked through Adobe to Media Encoder. And all the files were linked properly and yet again received the error message I wrote above.
Then I thought the Dynamic Link itself wasn't working properly, so I tested importing an Adobe After Effects Comp into a Premiere Timeline and it DID WORK.
Then I went and tested if a video file of an already exported project would be able to sync to Media Encoder. And this WORKED.
I then went to add the file directly from Media Encoder and when I went to add a sequence from a saved Premeire File, it would take about 5 minutes "Connecting to Dynamic Link Server", to then state, "Connecting to Dynamic Link Server Failed"
My question is, how do I fix the dynamic link between Media Encoder and Premiere? Because, additionally, importing and After Effects Sequence works with Media Encoder.

  • Connect to dynamic link taking ages

    Win 7 64bit GTX 550TI
i have created a new Encore project and gone to File/Dynamic link/import Premiere Pro. In the dialog box, I selected the appropriate PP file and now I'm seeing a "connecting to dynamic link server" with a barbers shop pole graphic as a 'busy' sign. My problem is that it's been running for over 20 minutes now. The PP sequence is 2 hours long but I've done this before and it didn't take this long. Can anyone help ?
    Regards,
    TL.

I don't think it accesses detail of the sequences before you get the list on the right. So it does seem hung up.
As a test, I would try a different project.
I would try opening the PR project before accessing from Encore.

  • After Effects, Track camera unable to obtain dynamic link server connection

This has been hit and miss. I am now consistenly getting a dynamic link server connection trying to use Track camera in After Effects.
    64GB RAN
    Windows 7 proffesional
    i7 processor
    NVIDIA GEFORCE TITAN
I have enabled all the recommended programs through my firewall. I see the dynamiclink server is running in my task manager, I have closed all other programs, no antivirus, I have restarted my computer, no luck with this.
    Also to add additional information:
It seems that when I try to do replace with After Effects composition in Premiere Pro I am getting error: The importer reported a generic error
and also when I first launch After effects I am getting a failure to load a few plugins from CineForm including importer

    Hi guys,
I have the same problem but my system is:
    Os X 10.9.5 - Macbook Pro Retina - NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
    After Effect 13.1.1.3
    No antivirus or firewall running.
Any suggestion or the only way is to unistall, run adobe CC cleaner and reinstall? I'm in the middle of a project, quite in a hurry, and I prefer to avoid it if possible.
While I normally don't suggest too many changes in the middle of a project, have you considered updating to the latest version of AE? 13.2 released a couple of days ago. If the update messes you up, you were going to need to uninstall, run the CC Cleaner, and reinstall anyway...

  • After Effects CC won't connect to Dynamic link

    Hello,
I am getting an error when starting After Effects CC saying that it can't connect to Dynamic Link.  I have read over the threads for this error, but my firewall is off I have removed the third party codecs from Library/Quicktime.  This worked once, but then went back to getting the error.
I updated to the most recent version of OS X and after that I get a dialogue box when launching a project saying it has conected to untitled.ppj with a cancel and OK button.  the OK is grayed out, and if I hit cancel, After Effects hangs.
If I launch a Premier project with linked After Effects compositions those never load.
I am running OS X 10.8.5 and Adobe updater says everytihing is up to date.
there are two adobeQT32 processes running in activity monitor (and two crash daemons as well)
I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions for trying to fix this.  Thanks.
    Patrick

thanks for replying , yeah i cant seem to find any solution maybe i will try and contatc adobe techinical support on monday , although they might just say to reinstall everthing as well . Thanks Anyway

  • Dynamic link server won't connect

After a complete reinstall of my computer (Mac Pro 5.1, nvidia GTX 120 & GTX780) i cant use dynamic link to import sequences out of other projects. Dynamic link server can't connect. What can I do to resolve this?

Well I'm not (yet) sure if it was the ethernet cable or the firewall service.  I'm guessing that the service must be reconfigured if you switch routers.  Doh!

  • "timed out obtaining dynamic link server connection" in After Effects

    Hi!
I can't use the warp stabilizer or the Track Camera function, it stops after a while and produces the "timed out obtaining dynamic link server connection" error. Regardless of footage, and I have disabled all firewall software.

Hi, i have the same issue in After Effects CC, i have tried the "run as administrator" solution above and it is still saying "timed out obtaining dynamic link server connection". i have windows 8 64bit

  • Importing sequence from another project, can't connect to dynamic link

I'm trying to get another sequence from another project into this one (mostly to be able to copy over a specific edit from that without remaking it) and when trying to do so, the system, as per the usual, tries to connect to the dynamic link server, but stalls on the connection screen for some time.  One time it simply told me that it could not connect, and another time I got an "unspecified draw error".  I'm using a PC.  Any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated; I've never run into this issue before, and have had to copy edits between projects multiple times.
