The Balanced Systems is very interesting
What kind of GTX would you recommend ? Because i've seen different types of GTX 760/GTX 770.
For your 4-core non-overclockable CPU go for a low end (GTX 760) GPU.  I just looked at the EVGA info page on the GTX 760 models.  If you are editing Standard definition and/or High Defifiition video you only need one of their 2 GB Video Ram models of which there are the 5 versions.  Further you have a choice Superclocked or the rregular clock speed, as the difference between the two clock speeds is only $10 I personally would go for that version.  At this point you can eliminate the Dual-BIOS version as not being of much value.  I would opt for the ACX Cooler and that leaves you with this unit which I suggested earlier.   If you happen the find any of this family on sale as you can see price could then  be the deciding factor

  • HPE-510t does not boot with AMD FirePro W5000 (Windows 8.1)

    I just purchased an AMD FirePro W5000 (TDP = 75 W) to replace my nVidia Quadro 600 (TDP = 40 W) in my 2011 HPE-510t (i7-2600, 12 GB RAM). Dell U2913WM monitor.
My machine will not start with the new card inserted. I upgraded the stock 300 W power supply to a 450 W Antec VP450F, but that didn't change  the startup situation. I tried DisplayPort and Dual-Link DVI-D.
Anyone been able to get the AMD FirePro working in an HP desktop of this generation?
    Thanks,

    Hi Mike,
I am glad that you finally have success.  The issue is probably that the PC BIOS level is too low.
The passmark numbers look very good.
BTW -- I had the ASUS P8P67 motherboard and donated it another forum member. It wouldn't support an EVGA UEFI BIOS based graphics card. I ended up replacing the ASUS P8P67 with the ASUS Z87.

  • GPU/CPU Nvidia Quadro 2000

Hi community ! i recently bought an Nvidia Quadro 2000K. Ruining CS6 on windows 64 bits. I can´t access the CUDA options and certainly can not select GPU raytracer.
I found a tut to put manually the card name in a txt raytracer_supported_cards but didn´t work...
I do not care about the raytracer (i don´t use it) but my question is
by not being able to see/display the Cuda cores, etc... is after effects really using all the "power" in the graphics card ? the 2 gb ram, and all the cuda cores ?
Suggestions, advice, help is more than welcome ! Thanks Marcos.

The GPU is only really used in AE for acceleration of the ray-traced renderer. If you're not using it (and most people don't these days), I wouldn't worry about your GPU at all. (Unless you have a third-party plugin like Element 3d that uses the GPU.)

I believe PCI slot should be backward compatible w/ 2.0 version.
Does it really matter install PCIe2.0 graphic board on 3.0 slot?
My ohter option is AMD FirePRo V4900, which is one of the certified graphic card for the Autodesk.

    Hello masterqueue.
This desktop was a CTO (Configured-to-Order) model.  As such, there is a lot of information I do not know about the machine.  Most importantly, how large is the power supply?  According to the computer's specification page it could have anywhere from a 300 watt to a 600 watt power supply.  That is a very big difference.
I'll keep an eye out for your response.  Have a great day.
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"

  • Quadro K5000 or Dual AMD FirePro D500

I have a Quadro K5000 GPU currently in my machine.  Iam upgrading to the new MacPro soon wich has the Dual AMD FirePro D500 GPUs.  My question is, which is better?  I use my machine primarily for 2D motion graphics production within After Effects and to edit RED footage within Premiere Pro.  Thoughts or recommendations?

If the problem is no picture on your display, please provide more information:
Is this the first display, or a second or third or more?
Did it ever work, even for a moment?
What display?  and preferably a link to its specs.
What adapters and cables are you using?

this is just one video, but i've seen others where they use quadro and gtx together. he runs davinci resolve in video, but not premiere. there is an icon for premiere in the taskbar, so they probably do use it. with nvidia, its possible to go into the control panel and assign only one of the video cards to be used for cuda processing.  if just need 10bit out, there are dedicated cards that are designed specifically for display only and shouldn't conflict with a gtx and premiere. some of these display out cards are cheaper than an old cheap quadro or firepro too. ADK has several different kinds, so they should be able to set it up.

  • Adobe After Effects CC 2014 don't work with brand new Dell m6800 with AMD FirePro m6100 video card

    Hello!
I got brand new Dell Precision m6800 with AMD FirePro m6100 FireGL V. Premiere and Photoshop works more or less fine, but there is a problem with AFx - software kills videocard (screen goes black for several seconds and then appears this notification - IC454010.gif gif by stumped2 | Photobucket ). After that - AFx hangs on. All the drivers are up to date (tried different AMD drivers - same situation), Windows 7 Pro - up to date, AFx - up to date.
Got small chat with Dell support team and they said - everything must work fine.
So - where is the problem? I spent almost 2.5k euros for this Dell mobile workstation, but right now I`m stuck with this problem. PS - funny fact - my Dell M6800 is on Adobe's hardware performance white paper, but seems that this means nothing

AE uses the GPU for very little. See here: GPU (CUDA, OpenGL) features in After Effects
Unless you're doing a lot with the ray-traced renderer or third party plugins (like Element 3d), AE won't really use your GPU at all.
And the ray-traced renderer is built on NVIDIA technology so it can never use an AMD card to accelerate it. You'd need an NVIDIA card.
That's probably part of the reason that the AE team has stopped putting any development time towards the ray-traced renderer and are focusing on a more powerful (and less GPU specific) way to do 3d in AE: details of CINEMA 4D integration with After Effects That's right: C4D is included for free with After Effects!
Since you don't have an NVIDIA card, this will actually render faster than the ray-traced renderer too!

  • Nvidia quadro 4000 or 5000 in Mac Pro

    Hello all,
I have this question that I already make to a sale advisor in a Mac store and he do not know what to answer and also I do it to a technical Mac sales agent and again nothing.
I do not own a Mac pro yet, I am looking to buy one becuase is the only system that can hold (in a stable way) both Mac OS X and Windows 7.
I am a professional working with 3D content creation, CAD design and digital video and I want to be able to do pro 3D content with Windows 7 and also working in pro videos in Mac OSX. The actual graphic cards for the Mac pro 2010 are intended for video games instead of professional production (this is the info posted in the AMD/ATI website when one do the search for Radeon 5770 and 5780, of course they can handle some 3d content but not as the latest generation of Nvidia cards)
    My question is:
Can I use a Mac pro with one of those ATI cards installed in the 1st PCIe 2.0 16x port for the MAC OS X and then install a Nvidia Quadro 4000 or 5000 in the second PCIe 2.0 16x port for Windows 7? (given the fact that Nvidia do not have even beta drivers for Mac OS X for those types of cards yet)
Im thinking that I can use the Mac with the ATI and then when swiching to Windows (trough Boot Camp) using the Nvidia Quadro but I am not sure if this is possible and if installing another card will created probs. and if is posible how to relate each card to each OS.
I ask this before having the Mac becuase I am planing to make a huge inversion on it and I want to be sure about this. (The specs. will be 32gb ram, 512gb ssd, 3x2tb hdd, 2x2.93ghz6c xeons)
Thank you all and I will be pleased to heard any comments or suggestions.

The Quadro FX 5800 is launching at $3,499, and its spec sheet looks well furnished: 240 stream processors, fill rate of 52 billion texels per second, 128-bit precision, true 10-bit color support, 102GB/s memory bandwidth (which should translate to an 800MHz GDDR3 clock speed, if my math is right), and "interactive 4D modeling with time lapse capabilities." Nvidia says the Quadro FX 5800 should be well suited to applications like "oil and gas exploration, medical imaging, styling and design, and scientific visualization."

If you wanted to use nVidia's Quadro CX to speed up CS5, it is Windows only, and the Mac only has TWO 6-pin connectors. So even though Quadro 5800 power is under 200W there are no more aux power connectors. Though you can try to add a small 450W PSU for graphics 2 x 8-pin./2 x 6-pin) it gets messy running from the 2nd optical drive bay and tight fit-impossible for cables. Not designed for dual graphic card power.
The GTX 285 EVGA came out for Mac last year but drivers have been a problem with performance and a year later 10.6.4 and nVidia rushed to post a patch but there has been no word now that the GTX 285 went EOL. What's up with that?

  • Amd firepro w7000 ?

after effects cs6 and after effects cc Can you use the amd firepro w7000 cards to speed?

The only thing After Effects uses a GPU to accelerate is the ray-traced renderer.
The bad news: the ray-traced renderer can only be accelerated by certain NVIDIA cards as it's based on NVIDIA technology. You cannot use an AMD card to accelerate it.
The good news: in After Effects CC, the ray-traced renderer became obsolete. AE now includes Cinema 4D Lite. This renders faster and is much more powerful than the ray-traced renderer.
So, if you're using After Effects CC (or the brand new After Effects CC 2014), you can use that card. Well, unless you are using Premiere or certain third-party plugins to After Effects (like VideoCopilot's , they all have different requirements.

  • Nvidia Quadro K5100m in Precision m6700?

    Hello,
I would like to upgrade graphics card in my precision m6700 and I was thinking about k5100m, but I'm not sure if It's that easy to install this card in my laptop. Probably I have to do some software upgrade(bios?). Does anybody use this card with m6700 or another card which is not supported by original Dell m6700 configuration? Is it hard to upgrade? How does it work later? Did you have any problems?

    Thank you for answer,
Like you said k5100m was validated only with precision m6700, but I've already read about few users who successfully installed k5000m on precision m6600. I guess quadro k5000m was only validated with dell m6700, but it works with m6600 as well. Obviously you have to do some software updates, usually bios.
I would appreciate answers from users who upgraded their GPU like that and information how it works/how hard was that. I've got an occasion to buy k5100m for a good price, so it's really important for me. Especially if I plan next upgrade 5 years later.
    EDIT:
I have decided to don't start with k5100m. So, now I would like to upgrade my laptop to k5000m and I have few questions. At the moment I have AMD FirePro m6000 in my laptop and I read that there is a dedicated heatsink to k5000m. Can anyone confirm this information? Is there any difference between these two heatsinks? I know there are two different heatsinks for CPU - one of them has two pipes(for XM cpus) and another one has only one pipe, but i couldn't find any information about gpu heatsinks.
I have also a question about thermal paste and how to put in on k5000m. Unlike the firepro m6000, there is a chip and a square around it(picture below):
Where do I have to put thermal paste? Only on the chip in the middle or on that square around as well? What about those chips around gpu processor? What do you think about gelid extreme thermal paste?

  • NVidia Quadro 4000 and early 2008 Mac Pro (3,1)

    Hi to all.
I think my display card just died.
I've been wanting to get the NVidia Quadro 4000 for a while now as I do editing professionally and would like to make the Adobe Production suite zippier.
So now, I have no functional card for my monitors. Can I use the NVidia Quadro 4000 for my Dell monitors? One of the Dell's has a DVI-D2 input but the other has only VGA as far as I can tell. Or does it make more sense to get a different card? Or both the Quadro and a lower level card?
Also, does the NVidia Quadro 4000 need extra power and if so, how easy is it to connect and would I be able to use the DVD burner?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Running Snow Leopard, 18GB RAM

So many questions and so little time... lunch!
    There is Wikipedia.
    AMD = OpenCL
    Nvidia = OpenCL and CUDA
CUDA is part of every Nvidia card, GeForce GTX or Quadro
Open source compiler to make CUDA and OpenCL much easier and better (OpenCL is 4-5 yrs old but a pain to code and optimize with a lot of micro management. Not today but AMD's support for just OpenCL is limiting. But something to support both technologies is a year away probably.
Dual boot is a must! Clone your system / or install Lion on 2nd drive
Setup Assistant to import from 10.6 to Lion so you have both.
    Clones as backup.
Out of the box: the startup is missing on screen without the modification. The drivers are normally and only found bundled into OS X which is why you don't normally see or have to go to AMD to get the latest driver. Or downgrade to a better working driver. you have to rely on OS X and version.
That is why GTX 5xx and 10.7.3
OWC charges more than Amazon or Apple and charges for 6-pin cable. The 5770 does work - with 10.6.5 or later. It does not work with older OS - no driver. It does not allow you to boot from your 10.6.0 DVD and install.
You could order the GTX 570 (I'd skp on 560, I have looked into both but up to you). And 680s are not supported yet, and still scarce. But great card for the $499.
The GTX 570 2.5GB was the one recommended with its 2.5GB VRAM. $349.
    http://www.evga.com/products/
To get a boot screen means modifying the card which means sending it to Calif and $100 + shipping.
Some people use the GTX purely for CUDA and still use ATI 5770 for their monitor.
Oh, yes, died. No card on hand as backup or spare.
Shame. I'd toss coin and then go with.... Q4K but
    http://www.amazon.com/PNY-DisplayPort-Profesional-Graphics-VCQ4000MAC-PB/dp/B004 CRS78O
You could wait and see. I'd over night the Q4K for $810, then see how that does, it does have 2x the VRAM. And you could use GTX 570 or 680 down the road when you do upgrade to Lion plus.

  • NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT vs. NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M?

I just have a PC vs. Mac question, as I am looking at the new MacBook Pros. Which of the following NVIDIA processors is the best for intense graphic applications? Why does Mac only have 1 option, and is it superior to the PC options?
    PC
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M
    NVIDIA QUADRO NVS 140M
    Mac
    NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    Many thanks!

what do you want to do with such devices, work, play, and specifically which software?
usability is often ignored by people who get swayed by paper-based specs, and it is important to know what you are going to do with a machine before making up your mind, not just which processor and hardware has a .01 percent coolness factor above the other.
I am somewhat biased, for I have developed an intense distrust, disenchantment, and pretty much an aversion to what you would call "PC" software and OSes. Twenty years of DOS and Windows have left me no fond memory, if not for the fact that I know how to fix a lot of software and hardware problems (you learn when you are constantly confronted to problems, and problems abound in the world of Windows).
A Macbook Pro is a beautiful machine, and it is hassle free a good 90%+ of the time, you can install Windows if you must anyhow, but Apple doesn't sell for cheap. Mind you, most high-end PCs do not cost much less anyhow, just the low end ones.
The 8600M GT card supports DirectX 10, can play even Crysis on a 32-bit Windows version very well (I play it from time to time, beautiful), but it isn't a 8800 card, nor is it the best card in all of laptop PCs. I do consider the Macbook Pro a desktop replacement, and I have very intensive use of my machine (scientific software for academics and industry, video games, multimedia, you name it).
So if you must play the latest game, and I mean the latest, with the highest frame-per-second count of all your friends, don't go for a 8600M GT, (ii) for a laptop anyways (laptop were never, never meant to compete with desktop-grade hardware, no matter what you local wise arses will tell you), and (iii) buy a console instead. BUT, if you want to play most games, very well, and you are concerned with media editing, usability, stability, reliability, etc., a Macbook Pro is a beautiful thing to have...
    Cordially,

i  constantly get Kernel Panics when using CC14 associated with my NVIDIA Quadro 4000 2048  while using cc14 photoshop and lightroom since I updated to Maverick 10.9.4.
I have been searching for fixes for months, i have updated everything, every driver,  and this has costed me THOUSANDS of dollars in pay i am unable to receive because my %^&* computer keeps crashing.
Now i am pissed! I have consulted APPLE and  even after pushing me up to the top level.  they still read off a piece of paper. ! i just wanted to go back to osx before mavericks which i was having NO ISSUES but no one seem to have a clue at apple how to even turn one on.
    1. i am NOT doing a master restore and I NEVER had a problem before Mavericks and CC14!!!
    2. Every driver is updated every firmware is updated
    3. there is NOTHING RUNNING IN HTE BACKGROUND
    4. i did an smc and reset pram
    5. ran disk utility -- no problems
    6. searched for answers for months.
    7. and by the way..... photoshop cc14 does not save your work on a crash. it saves what you already saved
I AM TIRED OF WASTING MY TIME TRYING TO GET ANSWERS WHEN I ONLY GET IGNORED.
this is an issue with my nvidia quadro pro 4000 video card and -- adobe and - mavericks.
MY system is high end, mac pro 5,1 Processor  2 x 2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon Late 2010 20 gig ram, quadro pro 4000 and an APPLE SSD TS512B
    solid state
and i spent 10 gran on this system. I am a professional and this is my BUSINESS... my only income.  not a kid playing games.
The video card was over a 1000.00!  Nvidia? ADOBE?
This needs to be fixed. this is my livelihood

Thanks for responding....of course I mean adobe. A community forum is NOT a company.
I read the link to the thread and this person says an application CANNOT cause kernel panics -- well Apple begs to differ. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14063
I have my own photography studio, ive spent over a half million dollars on my education (2 masters degrees) my equipment, and traveling the world to various workshops. I spend some evening researching new technology to stay on top of my craft but what I dont do and dont have time to do is follow forums regularly.
Therefore i dont know that this person has repeatedly said the same thing over and over in different threads about applications causing KP.
You suggested that I take my trouble shooting somewhere else...trust me this is not the first place ive tried to get answer.s I have been trying to resolve this issue since i updated to 10.9.4 and CC 14 and Nvidia Quadro pro 4000. It  has been months of phone calls research, forums, talking to anyone i know that knows anything and  I have lost thousands of dollars.  My digital lab ran perfect before the updates.
    so......
First...I DISAGREE with the guy in the thread because what he wrote is just his opinion. It doesnt matter wjho he works for, it a person converses a fact with NO REFERENCES then it looses credibility.  I always include a reference when I make a statement to anyone
second: as i said in my discussion -- i have done everything and the only time i get kernel panics is when using photoshop - nothing else running in the background, and the issue is with the video card drivers , 10.9.4 and photoshop and lightroom CC14.
lastly; I know my video card is fine because Ive had photoshoots where i tethered (as I alwasy do) to Phocus software for my Hasselblad H4d and there is never a crash or kernel panic issue. ever.
I ONLY GET KERNEL PANICS WHEN I USE ADOBE PHOTOSHOP OR LIGHTROOM  CC14 AND IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED SINCE I UPDATED TO 10.9.4 AND CC14
apple told me to do a restore --  they were just reading  me what they were supposed to say.

They included the wrong DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort adapter.  The correct adapter should have a female Mini DisplayPort connector, not male.  You could buy the correct adapter or you could add a F-F Mini DisplayPort coupler

Try calling the, and asking for the correct adapter.  They fo say:
"Connect to mini-DisplayPort displays through the included adapter cable"
