Nvidia quadro 4000 for mac and os 10.6.8 on After Effects CS6 (11.0.2) Cuda don't work

Hi,
We bought an Nvidia Quadro 4000 for Mac for use RayTrace on After Effects CS6 (11.0.2) with our Mac Pro 5.1 on OS 10.6.8.
And the Mac lost the Cuda driver when we restart it.
We use the Nvidia driver 256.02.25f01 for Mac Os 10.6.8 and we made test on different Cuda driver (4.1.25, 4.2.10, 5.0.37 and 5.0.47).
When we install Cuda driver and start directly After Effects 11.0.2 it’s works (after effects see the GPU processor).
But when we restart the Mac and try to launch After Effects, AE doesn’t see GPU processor and ask to install Cuda driver 4.0 or later.
Do you know this problem ?
Do you have a solution ?
Thanks.
And sorry for my English !

Hi All,
I'm having the exact same problem on 10.6.8 with a brand new Quadro 4000.  My CUDA preferences are up to date, but After Effects CS6 is not seeing the card.
GPUSniffer gives me some really weird results, which I've included.  Of particular note there is a repeated "just leaking" message, an "invalid drawable" and "Did not find any devices that support GPU computation."
Anyone have a fix for this?  We just dropped a lot of money on this card so I could squeeze some more life out of this workstation (Mac Pro 4,1 dual quad 2.66 with 12GB RAM).

NVIDIA Quadro 4000 for Mac $1,199.95

    2GB of high-speed memory
GPU accelerated professional applications DaVinci Resolve, Autodesk Smoke and Mathworks Matlab

    # Low-power, single-slot design allowing for up to two cards

Interesting; so as of today, the 5870 got a 'ADD NOW' and '1-click BUY' button. Just like the Quadro 4000, you can now actually order it.
Availability has not changed from 'currently unavailable' however....
Hatter, to my previous post; I realize that the Quadro will greatly accellerate certain tasks and apps; and for CUDA sensitive apps, it looks great.
But I am worried about this being also a day to day card; playing WOW or other things after work is done.
The raw SPEED of the Quadro is clearly much less than a GTX 285, or a 5770/5870:
    Quadro 4000:
    Memory Bandwidth: 89.6 GB/s
    Core Clock: 375 MHz
    Memory Clock: 700 MHz
    at a max W of 142 (power)
GTX 285 (Mac version - which was slightly underpowered):
    Memory Bandwidth: 159 GB/s
    Core Clock: 648 MHz
    Memory Clock: 1242 MHz
    at a max W of 204 (power)
    5870:
    Memory Bandwidth: 153.6 GB/s
    Core Clock: 850 MHz
    Memory Clock: 1200 MHz
    at a max W of 188 (power)
Based on these specs, applications which don't take advantage of the Quadro's specific accelleration should be markedly slower than with the consumer cards, wouldn't they?
    Best,
    Dan

  • How do you setup HDMI audio with "Nvidia Quadro 4000 for Mac"?

So I just purchased a new Mac Pro:
    Mac Pro (5,1) 3.33 GHz 6-Core
    8 GB Ram
    ATI Radeon HD 5770
    1TB HDD
    OS 10.8.3
I also purchased a new Nvidia Quadro 4000 for Mac Graphics Card because the 3D animation software I'm using (Blender) requires this card to accelerate render times.
I have installed the card and all is working well as far as I can tell except for the HDMI audio.  According to the specs on Nvidia for this card, it DOES support HDMI audio through the Display port.  I have my HDMI cable plugged up and the video works great.  However the audio option does not show up in the System Preferences.  (Here is the page for the graphics card.  Look under "specifications" at the bottom for the audio part.  http://www.nvidia.com/object/product-quadro-4000-mac-us.html).
I did find a link for a kernel addition for HDMI audio but it stated "non-Apple Nvidia cards" and this one is specifically for Mac.  Here is that link:  http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1499797.  (I also plan on posing the same question there.)
The reason I want the HDMI to work is I'm using a TV as my monitor.
Now I did try the HDMI with the ATI Card and both the audio and video work great.
What I did for a quick work around is install both cards and use the GPU processor on the Nvidia for the animation program and use the ATI for the actual port and this fixes the hdmi audio issue.  However this takes up pretty much all of my PCI slots and seems like a waste of space and power.
Has anyone else run into this problem and found a solution??  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I went ahead and tried that extension that I found.  It worked!
I guess Mac just didn't include the audio support in the driver that it includes.  Below is were I found the instructions and download.  It includes a shell script that installs the kernal from the Terminal prompt.  The instructions were clear and installed with out a hitch.  There were also instructions to remove it if there were issues.

  • NVIDIA QUADRO 4000 for MAC---Issues with Adobe Premeire

    Hello,
    Mac Pro (Tower)
    *OS 10.7.5
    *2.8 GHx Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    *16 GB RAM
I've had a multitude of issues with Adobe Premiere on this system and I'm not sure what to attribute it to.  First of all: I have two MAC Book Pro's that run APremiere, with similiar specs and only 8GB of RAM.  These two laptops run APremiere flawlessly and it's because of this reason that I can deduce, that my 'tower' is having issues because of the NVIDIA QUADRO 4000 installed; it's the only difference, besides the RAM, that the computers have.  Has anyone had issues using the NVIDIA QUADRO 4000 before?  Some of the issues I've been having are (please note, these issues are random, happen at random times and on random projects.  The majority of the footage I use is MOV (from DSLR cameras) and MP4's (from a Sony EX-1)):
    *Renders crashing
    *Slow clip playback
*An oddity: certain MP4 files will go out of sync-on playback from APremiere and even in a VLC player
    *AMedia Encoder crashes
Maybe the NVIDIA has nothing to do with it?
Thanks for your time and help.
    Tim S.

Maybe the NVIDIA has nothing to do with it?
One way to accrue evidence would be to turn off Mercury Playback in the Project Settings.
I have that card, and turning of MPE often gets me through a session.  Some here have claimed that the card is the cause of the frequent Serious Errors, and disabling it is the solution.
That's hardly satisfactory when one of the best features of Pr is the ability to use CUDA.
However, anything going through the card also has to pass through Pr and the OS.  Adobe claims that updating to 10.8 fixes some bugs, but according to some here (myself included), not enough.
I had one project recently that I couldn't get the Serious Errors to stop until I re-installed the nVidia driver.
But, your list of problems could be due to corrupt Pr preferences.  If you have a Mac, you need to get used to refreshing your prefs several times a day.  They could also be corrupt media.  That will cause renders to crash.

  • Nvidia quadro 4000 for mac issues

Hey Im running a quadro 4000 on my mac pro and I'm having issues in my bootcamp partition running windows 7, were it won't wake up from sleep or screens won't turn on at all, some issues in general with it booting up properly and sometimes screens go black, but computer is still running just black screens... any ideas... from what i see people have been running this with and since the latest drivers people seem to be happy... just can't seem to get much performance out of mine. Even treid installing the drivers as a root user but still having similar issues as before.
From reading on many forums it seems like this should not be happening with the latest drivers now out, Ive put back my old ATI and it works fine so im pretty sure its the card... any suggestions or tips?
    thanks
    steve

Separate and head to Boot Camp forum for issues with Windows.
There are some threads on Q4000 and CUDA drivers but that is easy enough to resolve by going to Nvidia driver downloads page. I was not aware you ever needed to or would want to anable as root.

  • NVidia Quadro 4500 for mac and pc question

I am thinking of purchasing a new Mac Pro 3.0GHz Quad-Core desktop with the nVidia Quadro 4500 graphics card. I want to run Solidworks on Windows XP SP2 and also be able to boot into Mac OS X. I have done hours of research trying to make sure it will work but can't seem to find any posts that suggest my system will work as I intend.
I have found out that the nVidia Quadro 4500 needs to configured for the mac (firmware) and that you just can't buy one from eBay and install it. There are PC versions and Mac versions. Also, flashing it to work with a mac is very difficult and may damage the card if you get it wrong. Not something I want to do.
So, my question is: If I buy this Mac Pro from Apple with the nVidia Quadro 4500 card already installed, will I have any problems with it working on the window side of things when I boot into Windows XP? Does anyone have the setup that I am talking about and also running SolidWorks on the Windows side?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
    Yee Ha!

    Hi,
Mac OS X Leopard has Boot Camp included with the software. I have read online (Apple site amongst others) the BootCamp bundled with Leopard has all the drivers for Windows included, so you no longer need to create a disc with the drivers needed for Windows (as you did under the BootCamp beta version).
That being the case, Leopard should have the required drivers for your Quadro FX 4500 to function under Windows.
    See here for details:
    http://www.apple.com/uk/macosx/features/bootcamp.html
    Hope this helps

    Hello Apple Community,
Originally upgraded to this Quadro card because, for what I was doing, the ATI card that came with this Mac wasn't cutting it. I was told by three different reps from three different companies that the Nvidia Quadro K5000 for Mac would be great for what I need. So far it has worked out to not be the case.
The issue started with simple projects overlocking the processor, which then resulted in the machine shutting down. For months now the computer has been randomly shutting down, at least twice a day. Its is odd that something is sending kernel panics when there isn't any stress involved.
    Programs involved:
    Adobe After Effects CC
    Adobe Premiere CC
    Maxon Cinema 4D r14

Maybe try associating AE project files with 5.5 instead of 6.

  • Quadro 4000 for mac

I have now a ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB in my mac pro.
But when i must make a dvd it might happen that it cost sometimes to 12 hours to compleet a dvd.
Will this be faster by installing a qudro 4000?

Here is what I do that does take advantage of GPU MPE.  My workflow is to export my AVCHD from Premiere to MPEG2-DVD and then import the timelines to Encore.  Even if you are using no MPE accelerated effects and other features you are scaling from 1920 x 1080 to 720 x 480 for the DVD which is significantly accelerated by the GPU MPE in Premiere.
The Quadro 4000 is a lousy, expensive MPE GPU engine (only 256 cores), invesitigate using one of the current GTX 600 series, I know they can be made to work in you Mac if you have a current version OS and do not mind making a small text edit to one Adobe file.  Search the Internet

  • OT: Quadro 4000 for Mac

Sorry for the OT, but I bet somebody here can answer this for me.
Since I recently installed the Quadro 4000 in my MacPro3,1, and upgraded to OS 10.6.8 to use CUDA in Pr, I've noticed that the Brightness button on my 30" Apple Cinema Display doesn't work any more.  Also, the Displays Preference Brightness slider doesn't do anything any more either.
Is this a side effect of the Quadro card?
I really need to turn down the ACD brightness at certain times, because it's way bright.
    TIA,

I've never used the Apple Cine Displays given their silly prices, but: How are you connecting the Quadro up?  Are you using the DisplayPort on the card, since you're driving a massive panel?  Does the Cine have a DVI port on the back of it that you can experiment with?  Generally when controls on a monitor go unresponsive it's because of the input type.
