NVidia Quadro FX 4500 + nVidia GeForce 6600 = NOTHING

OK, so here's my problem...
I'm running a Quad core G5 with a nVidia Quadro FX 4500 as my main card. I have a Cintiq as my main display and now two 20 inch apple displays.
I've never been able to run three monitors on this machine.
Right now I have a nVidia GeForce 6600 "upgrade" card. I can get any combination of two displays to work on the 4500, but NOTHING works on the 6600. In the apple system profiler the 6600 card shows up as this:
pci0,400:
Type: VGA-Compatible Controller
Bus: PCI
Slot: SLOT-3
Vendor: nVIDIA (0x10de)
Device ID: 0x0393
Revision ID: 0x00a1
The 4500 is in slot 1, the 6600 is in slot 3. What the **** am I doing wrong?
Also, would it be possible for me to put 2 4500's in one machine? I have another G5 with a similar setup...
My goal is the have all three monitors working...
Thanks!

It is for Macs? has Apple EFI? if not, can't use it.
If you need Quadro, the new 4000 for $US 1,195.
If you need to know who and what apps benefit instead?
But if you just need a desktop graphic card, the ATI 5770 then for $249.

  • Can I upgrade the graphic card Nvidia Geforce 6600 Go on Tecra M5-133

    Hi,
I want to change Graficcard of my Toshiba M5-133 (Quadro NVS 110M), can I install Nvidia Geforce 6600 Go Graphiccard
    instead??
    Thank in advanced

    Hi
    > can I install Nvidia Geforce 6600 Go Graphiccard instead??
No, this is definitely not possible.
The notebook technology is different from the desktop PC and several parts are not upgradeable.
The GPU (graphic card chip) is fixed on the board and the replacement or the upgrade is not possible, unfortunately.

  • [GeForce 6] NVIDIA GeForce 6600 512

    Doe's Nvidia support the "Diablotek NVIDIA GeForce 6600 512"  model NE+66000+TD51-PM8543 ?
What new drivers support the 512 memory?
I had posted about this before but didn't any replies except my own that I had found the basic product info. I've seen these cards at different sellers locations but beyond sales there is no extra support. Specifically from NVIDIA.
All help would be good. Also the card with the original driver pack works GREAT.
Also WHY does the Package say "SLI supported" and yet there is NO SLI bridge connection? Did NVIDIA make a mistake and send out a bad card or just a bad package?

I guess the mistake is from Diablotek, about SLI issue, and personally I don't like Diablotek products. And I guess you should stick to the driver pack, if it works don't touch it.

  • K9NGM3 how to enable both onboard video and video card NVidia GeForce 6600

My previous mainboard was K9NGM2 (GeForce 6150 onboard video) and I've used both onboard and external video at same time under Vista.
Now I've upgraded the mainboard and it's now a K9NGM3-FIH (with nVidia 7050 chip). Onboard graphic works as well if there is no external PCIe video card. When I plug an external one (GeForce 6600), internal one disappears. I both tried BIOS settings; primary card is Onboard / or PCIe. No luck!
If there is an external card, onboard video doesn't work at boot and under Vista. There is no Video graphic adapter named 7050 : ( When I unplug it then reboot there is the 7050 under device manager...
    What's wrong with them?
    Thanks.

when you have a stand alone video card, why would you want to use on board video at the same time? stand alone video card is much much better than those one on board.

  • Is NVIDIA GeForce 6600 card compatible with OpenGL 2.0?

    Hi there -
Is my GeForce 6600 card compatible with openGL 2.0?
I have some software that tells me it is not and I've just spent lots of money buying it - I did make a quick check on-line before making my software purchase and found out that the whole 6000 series was compatible.
Reading again it says it has been OK for 2.1 from June 2006 onwards. I bought my Mac in May 2006
Can I install a new driver or something (almost sounds like I know what I'm talking about)?
If so is this something I can do or do I have to take my whole machine to the hospital?
I'm not that confident messing with too much technical stuff so treat me like an idiot ... please!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi-
    Back from work......
BD has you going the right direction on RAM.
CS4 needs as much RAM as you can throw at it.
Buy only guaranteed Mac compatible RAM.
As for hard drive, getting a TB or so for storage is great, but you also need a fast scratch drive, separate from the system drive.
Improvements to hard drive technology have been made since the G5 was released, so replacing the system drive with a new one is a good idea.
For the fastest system drive, which helps overall performance, the Western Digital Velociraptor 300GB is an ideal candidate.
For more of a budget drive, but still fast, a WD6400AAKS 640GB drive is an overall winner, with fast read and write times, and all that capacity confined to two platters in the drive.
This is one of the keys to the drives performance prowess.
For scratch, you will have large files that are written, changed, erased, as filters, etc. are applied.
PS gobbles drive space even more than it eats RAM.
Again, the WD6400AAKS, or a WD1001FALS 1TB drive is what you should look at.
And when we talk scratch drives, I mean that it does nothing else.
    Not for file storage, etc.
File storage needs to be relegated to a third drive for system optimization.
To recap, a fast boot drive (OS and applications only), a scratch drive, and as many file storage drives as you need for multiple copies (min 2) of all work.
As for graphics card, yes there is improvement to be had, especially with regard to OpenGL support in CS4.
PS also leverages the GPU of the graphics card, so power is desired.
A Mac 7800GT, Radeon X1900 G5 Edition, or a flashed Geforce 7800GTX are the three top performing cards.
A Geforce FX4500 is also a possible candidate if your pockets are very deep.

Of the three cards, the 7800GTX is the top card, and is relatively easy to find. The 512MB version is the most desirable.
You will be looking on eBay for Mac compatible PCIe graphics cards in one of the flavors that I have named.

  • Vertical lines on dual display after boot up with NVIDIA GeForce 6600 on G5

I have just upgraded my G5 Quad from OS 10.4 to OS 10.5. Now, whenever I boot up the dual display is split into vertical stripes. I can fix it for that session by unplugging one monitor and plugging it back in again. If I boot up from the 10.5 install disc - same problem. If I boot up from the 10.4 install disc - works fine. The display does not go into vertical segments during the grey start up period, but only when the desktop appears. Anyone got any ideas?

    Hi-
I think what you are seeing is a result of poor, possibly failing, VRAM.
The stripes sound very typical of VRAM errors, and the fact that dual monitors in Leopard are added to the mix furthers the theory.
Leopard uses the graphics card much more than Tiger, that is, pulls more resources (power) from the graphics card.
Add the load of two monitors at relative high resolution, and marginal VRAM can exhibit symtoms of being so; marginal.
I'm curious as to a possible third work around. If the monitors are equipped with power buttons, does cycling one off, then on, allow proper display at the desired resolution?
Also, is this Geforce 6600 the 128MB version, or the 256MB version? This is listed in the System Profiler/Graphics/Displays.

  • Reduced blanking and Nvidia Geforce 6600 GT (MSI NX 6600 GT)

Can anybody tell me whether cards with the Geforce 6600 GT chip support
reduced blanking? (DVI single link with high resolution TFT monitor)
    Many thanks

Would you happen to know where I can find the G5 version?
I picked up a GeForce 6600 of craigslist for $30. Would love to install it in my G5 tower (from 2005) to get three monitors running. It's a PCI-e (?) card. Assuming it's from a PC originally, will it work on the Mac?

  • Multiple Monitor Setup for HPE-180t w/ NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 (only one DVI port)

I am wanting to connect mutliple montitors via DVI connection to my HPE-180t.  My graphics card is the NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 which has 3 ports (VGA, HDMI, DVI) and does support mutli monitor display.  What is the best way for me to connect multiple monitors to my desktop?  I would like for all of them to be connected via DVI.
    Thank you so much,
    Angela

    new computer: HPE-180t, Windows 7 Pro (64bit), Nvidia GeForce GT 220, Intel Core i7-930 quad-core CPU @ 2.80 GHz, 8GB of RAM

What is the end goal you are attempting to acheive?  Are you looking to clone all three monitors or each monitor to be independent of the other (extended display)?
This document covers how to configure the monitors in Windows 7.  I didn't see the GT 220 listed in the specifications, so I take it this is one purchased separately for the unit.  Most video cards require multiple monitors to be connected to a different port (to truly achieve a multiple monitor setup).  Since the card only has one DVI port, then the other ports (HDMI and VGA will need DVI adapters).  An example of an HDMI - DVI adapter can be found here.
The tricky part will be using the VGA - DVI adapter as DVI ports are typically DVI-D which makes it a pure digital signal.  VGA is analog, so the adapter will need to be special if the monitor is using a DVI-D port.  If it is a DVI-A or DVI-I port, then a standard VGA - DVI adapter will work.  If it is a DVI-D port, you will need an active VGA - DVI adapter.  If it is DVI-A/I, then a passive adapter will work.  This is an example of an Active VGA - DVI adapter.  For that adapter, a VGA cable will need to be connected to the VGA port with that end connected to the VGA side of the adapter and then being connected to the DVI port of the monitor.
Provided the video card supports 3 monitors, this would allow all monitors to have a DVI connection.  Keep in mind that the VGA port will still deliver an analog signal as opposed to the DVI and HDMI ports.  The card specifications do not really say how many monitors it supports, but it most likely does support three monitors.

  • Way to stop NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT graphics card from running?

I have 2 graphics cards in my Power Mac G5, one is a NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT graphics card which i believe came with it, the other is a NVIDIA GeForce 6600. The problem I have is that the NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT card makes a horrible fan noise, and I am looking for a way to unplug it, or cut it off from the power supply safely. Any advise is welcome.

    Here is a sample video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkMGFyB8wig&feature=related
Keep in mind that video cards have an extra tab at the tail end so don't forget to gently push the tab to the side.
The video card fans typically plug into power pins on the video card so removal of the card will expose the connection.  Otherwise, just follow the fan power leads.

  • NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500+Cheap LCDs+Cintiq-all money EVER=3 display solution?

    OK.
Last week I received my long-awaited Quad G5 along with my happy NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500.
I am currently running two simple Viewsonic Diplays:
    http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/lcddisplays/xseries/vx924/
In a week my Wacom Cintiq 21ux will be here. ( http://wacom.com/lcdtablets/index.cfm )
My budget is done. I feel a bit stupid now because I thought in the back of my mind, however brief.....quadro...quad...four.... 4 displays! Now, I knew this was wrong, but it doesn't change the fact that I didn't think about it when I ordered everything. So, my question is...
What's the best solution to have all three displays running separately and at a decent quality? A co-worker of mine says that you can just "spit the signal and the mac is smart enough to figure it out, it'll work." That sounds like bull to me. This can't be true, right?
So, given the specs of the monitors... if I HAVE to buy another video card I'd want the two Viewsonics running on it, as I'm sure a much cheaper video card will still use them to their full potential. What would be a good, inexpensive choice that will work with this setup? I'd rather keep the Cintiq on the NVIDIA, as it will be my main work area for everything I do. I like having two monitors side by site for video editing, so I'd rather not take one down just to use the Cintiq.
    So, any suggestions?
Powermac G5 Quad 2.5/ several others.   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

You would of been better off with a 7800 and order the 6600 for $200 extra. You could run the 2 viewsonics off the 7800 and the Cinitq off the 6600 while only taking 2 slots. Your option now is to buy the 6600 as that is the only card that will work in any of the open slots. I'm have the opposite problem. I have a 7800 with a 6600 running 2 30" monitors and would rather have a single 4500 as Aperture does not like splitting information between 2 separate video cards.

  • NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT vs. NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M?

I just have a PC vs. Mac question, as I am looking at the new MacBook Pros. Which of the following NVIDIA processors is the best for intense graphic applications? Why does Mac only have 1 option, and is it superior to the PC options?
    PC
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M
    NVIDIA QUADRO NVS 140M
    Mac
    NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    Many thanks!

what do you want to do with such devices, work, play, and specifically which software?
usability is often ignored by people who get swayed by paper-based specs, and it is important to know what you are going to do with a machine before making up your mind, not just which processor and hardware has a .01 percent coolness factor above the other.
I am somewhat biased, for I have developed an intense distrust, disenchantment, and pretty much an aversion to what you would call "PC" software and OSes. Twenty years of DOS and Windows have left me no fond memory, if not for the fact that I know how to fix a lot of software and hardware problems (you learn when you are constantly confronted to problems, and problems abound in the world of Windows).
A Macbook Pro is a beautiful machine, and it is hassle free a good 90%+ of the time, you can install Windows if you must anyhow, but Apple doesn't sell for cheap. Mind you, most high-end PCs do not cost much less anyhow, just the low end ones.
The 8600M GT card supports DirectX 10, can play even Crysis on a 32-bit Windows version very well (I play it from time to time, beautiful), but it isn't a 8800 card, nor is it the best card in all of laptop PCs. I do consider the Macbook Pro a desktop replacement, and I have very intensive use of my machine (scientific software for academics and industry, video games, multimedia, you name it).
So if you must play the latest game, and I mean the latest, with the highest frame-per-second count of all your friends, don't go for a 8600M GT, (ii) for a laptop anyways (laptop were never, never meant to compete with desktop-grade hardware, no matter what you local wise arses will tell you), and (iii) buy a console instead. BUT, if you want to play most games, very well, and you are concerned with media editing, usability, stability, reliability, etc., a Macbook Pro is a beautiful thing to have...
    Cordially,
    Dr Sly

  • Tecra S2 - resolution for external monitor on NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600

    Hello! I'm new here ...
I have a Tecra S2 with Windows XP SP2 and graphic card NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600. Internal resolution (display of notebook) is 1024 x 768. Its work fine. But I work with an external monitor VGA with "DualView" function. It is a Samsung Syncmaster 940N.
It??s all OK (19", resolution 1280 x 1024), with my new monitor Samsng Syncmaster 203B don't work: The external monitor's native resolution is 1400x1050 but the maximal resolution available is 1280 x 1024. And so, using 1280x1024 resolution, will cause the image on the external monitor and text is not clear.
I cannot set the 1400 x 1050 resolution via Control Panel nor via NVIDIA -menu.
Graphic card drivers are updated to the last version on the Toshiba site. Graphic card NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 is supported from my monitor Syncmaster 203B.
Max. resolution for external video of NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 is higher as 1400 x 1050.
I need to use this new monitor, can you help me?
