NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600

Is the NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 compatible with a power mac quad G5?. I need to buy a new graphic card and I wanted the best, money is no matter. If it's not, I would like a recommendation for a godd graphic card compatible with my computer
I also have a Power Mac Dual G5 2.7 and I would like to ask for a good graphic card too since it's AGP and they are harder to find. Thanks

Hi-

Can a NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 with 1.5GB work in a Apple Mac Pro Xeon Quad CORE 2.0?

Apple does sell it at BTO. $2700, so yes.
In another thread I discussed the card somewhat:

Not sure about the "2.0" the Mac Pro is 2.8GHz 8-core.

  • NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600/5800

Hello everyone. I wonder if Apple will bring back Nvidia Quadro cards to the new MacPro line up. The option is gone from the Configure your MacPro page. Any idea? Thanks a lot!

Using it in Windows would still work, just not output possibly in OS X.
But if you have a 2007 (3.0 8-core came out in March '07) I would guess "No" and you'll need to look elsewhere - maybe holding off until later. There's some Harmonic Convergence of these Mac Pros, Snow and maybe Nvidia wasn't ready when Intel and Apple were.
Your .sig has only OS. If your Mac Pro is 2008, you probably don't yet need to upgrade but if you are using FX with it, I would think it would work, but take it some place and test it. See if you can set up an appointment with a Genius etc even and see if they will do that for you before making a purchase.

  • November 2007 Mac Pro with NVIDIA Quadro 5600 Win only

    Hi,
so I have a NVIDIA quadro 5600 graphics card (PNY model) from another machine and want to use it with my late 2007 Mac Pro since my ATI XT1900 is slowly dying, has some temperature issues.
I am only gonna use this machine for Windows and I am aware that the card won't work in MAC OS but I thought it should work just fine otherwise.
So I installed the card and connected a second PCI Express 6 pin power cable (in addition to the one that was there from my ATI card) from the mainboard (so from the unoccupied 6-pin connector next to the other one) to the card.
When I was switching on the machine, a buzzer sounds and apparently it means not enough power:
    http://www3.pny.com/QuadroPDFs/5600PowerRequirements.pdf
so I thought there is something wrong with the mainboard 6-pin power connectors and used a molex y-adapter to directly connect the card to the power supply but with the same effect.
Next thing I tried to connect an external 200W power supply directly to the card, guessing that the MAC's power supply won't be enough (which it should...think 900W?) but still getting the buzzer sound.
Anyone tried this setup before or has some hints to how to resolve this issue?
If not, I guess I have to sell the card and look for an alternative - which card would be compatible for Windows use in my MAC Pro?
    thank you all in advance,
    Johannes Kohnle

I would concur, XP/Vista firmware reads two versions and most PC graphic cards have two versions embedded.
So hopefully with Mac's technical experience they should be able to do what Microsoft have been doing for years.
This is a well covered subject, we are all expecting something soon. Mr jobs told us so.
The reality is I guess, do Apple want to do it?
History dictates that they are not exactly ones for making Mac's upgradeable.
I too and I expect many others will seriously consider whether to upgrading again if the 8800GT for the Mac Pro 2006 /7 never materialises, mind you we could always place a pillow on it and use it as a seat.

  • Early 2008 Mac Pro, NVIDIA Quadro 5600, and Adobe CS5 - HELP!!!

Hello, I am currently pulling my hair out over my GPU situation. I'm eagerly awaiting the ship date for CS5, but I'm concerned about one of its system requirements, where it says an OpenGL capable card must be supported for the software to work.
So I went to their handy chart explaining which cards are supported, and mine, the Quadro FX 5600, is not listed on the Mac side. It is however listed on the Windows side.
But when I bought my Mac Pro, the 5600 was being offered by Apple, they're the ones who installed it for me! Haven't had a problem in CS4, but now I'm afraid I won't see the significant boost in power Adobe is promising from CS5.
When I called Adobe about it, I was on the phone for more than 45 minutes, talking to people in India who I even got to admit don't actually use the software, and ultimately told me they simply couldn't answer the question.
So if anyone could advise me wether or not my Early 2008 Mac Pro with Quadro FX 5600 graphics card will support OpenGL in After Effects CS5, I'd be eternally grateful.
    Thanks so much!

I have always assumed there would be no problem. You can download from
    http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/download.html
the OpenGL Extensions Viewer, which, when launched DIRECTLY TESTS with which versions of the OpenGL standard your card is compatible. (Right now there appear to be download problems with the URL above (a 421 FTP error: server is limiting available connections.)
I'm also hoping this indicates no problems with CS5!
    Hope this helps.

  • Quadro FX 5600 benchmarks

We were blessed to borrow a Quadro FX 5600 from AppleMacanix. Though we know this is optimized for particular Pro 3D apps like Maya, we thought it would be interesting to run it through our series of 3D Game tests.
It was slightly faster than than the GeForce 8800 GT running our six 3D accelerated games.
In another session, we performed a RAM Preview render on 15 Motion 3 templates. The Quadro FX 5600 and GeForce 8800 GT were slower than the Radeon HD 2600 XT in 14 out of 15 tests! The Radeon X1900 XT beat both nVidia cards rendering all 15 templates.
Tomorrow we will post results on our Windows Vista 64 tests (Prey, Doom 3, 3DMark06, etc.). As a preview, the Quadro was faster than the Radeon HD 2600 XT but slower than the GeForce 8800 GT running Prey and Doom 3. In the 3DMark06 benchmark the Quadro was faster than the GeForce 8800 GT.
In our posting, we will include results for the GeForce 8800 GTX and Radeon HD 3870 X2 -- both of which smoke the Quadro.

You could use that card for After Effects CS6. Just be aware that CUDA GPU acceleration (Ray-Tracer) will not work with that GPU as it is one of the very first CUDA-capable GPUs ever introduced. Its compute capability version is only version 1.0, which will not work at all with any of Adobe's products for CUDA GPU acceleration. Therefore, you must permanently lock both After Effects and Premiere Pro to the CPU-only (or software-only) mode in order to run properly.
In other words, you have just wasted your money on a GPU that Adobe programs cannot use.

  • NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT vs. NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M?

I just have a PC vs. Mac question, as I am looking at the new MacBook Pros. Which of the following NVIDIA processors is the best for intense graphic applications? Why does Mac only have 1 option, and is it superior to the PC options?
    PC
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M
    NVIDIA QUADRO NVS 140M
    Mac
    NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    Many thanks!

what do you want to do with such devices, work, play, and specifically which software?
usability is often ignored by people who get swayed by paper-based specs, and it is important to know what you are going to do with a machine before making up your mind, not just which processor and hardware has a .01 percent coolness factor above the other.
I am somewhat biased, for I have developed an intense distrust, disenchantment, and pretty much an aversion to what you would call "PC" software and OSes. Twenty years of DOS and Windows have left me no fond memory, if not for the fact that I know how to fix a lot of software and hardware problems (you learn when you are constantly confronted to problems, and problems abound in the world of Windows).
A Macbook Pro is a beautiful machine, and it is hassle free a good 90%+ of the time, you can install Windows if you must anyhow, but Apple doesn't sell for cheap. Mind you, most high-end PCs do not cost much less anyhow, just the low end ones.
The 8600M GT card supports DirectX 10, can play even Crysis on a 32-bit Windows version very well (I play it from time to time, beautiful), but it isn't a 8800 card, nor is it the best card in all of laptop PCs. I do consider the Macbook Pro a desktop replacement, and I have very intensive use of my machine (scientific software for academics and industry, video games, multimedia, you name it).
So if you must play the latest game, and I mean the latest, with the highest frame-per-second count of all your friends, don't go for a 8600M GT, (ii) for a laptop anyways (laptop were never, never meant to compete with desktop-grade hardware, no matter what you local wise arses will tell you), and (iii) buy a console instead. BUT, if you want to play most games, very well, and you are concerned with media editing, usability, stability, reliability, etc., a Macbook Pro is a beautiful thing to have...
    Cordially,
    Dr Sly

  • Kernel Panic Nvidia Quadro Pro 4000 CC14 MAC PRO 10.9.4 mavericks

I get kernels panics constantly when using CC14 lightroom and photoshop.. And this is causing  me to loose thousands of dollars. I have searched for months have lost thousands of dollars in work, have trued to contact support only to be sent to community forums which i get no response...o
    THEREFORE.....
Allow me to waste more time by contacting this unresponsive company.
i  constantly get Kernel Panics when using CC14 associated with my NVIDIA Quadro 4000 2048  while using cc14 photoshop and lightroom since I updated to Maverick 10.9.4.
I have been searching for fixes for months, i have updated everything, every driver,  and this has costed me THOUSANDS of dollars in pay i am unable to receive because my %^&* computer keeps crashing.
Now i am pissed! I have consulted APPLE and  even after pushing me up to the top level.  they still read off a piece of paper. ! i just wanted to go back to osx before mavericks which i was having NO ISSUES but no one seem to have a clue at apple how to even turn one on.
    1. i am NOT doing a master restore and I NEVER had a problem before Mavericks and CC14!!!
    2. Every driver is updated every firmware is updated
    3. there is NOTHING RUNNING IN HTE BACKGROUND
    4. i did an smc and reset pram
    5. ran disk utility -- no problems
    6. searched for answers for months.
    7. and by the way..... photoshop cc14 does not save your work on a crash. it saves what you already saved
I AM TIRED OF WASTING MY TIME TRYING TO GET ANSWERS WHEN I ONLY GET IGNORED.
this is an issue with my nvidia quadro pro 4000 video card and -- adobe and - mavericks.
MY system is high end, mac pro 5,1 Processor  2 x 2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon Late 2010 20 gig ram, quadro pro 4000 and an APPLE SSD TS512B
    solid state
and i spent 10 gran on this system. I am a professional and this is my BUSINESS... my only income.  not a kid playing games.
The video card was over a 1000.00!  Nvidia? ADOBE?
This needs to be fixed. this is my livelihood

Thanks for responding....of course I mean adobe. A community forum is NOT a company.
I read the link to the thread and this person says an application CANNOT cause kernel panics -- well Apple begs to differ. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14063
I have my own photography studio, ive spent over a half million dollars on my education (2 masters degrees) my equipment, and traveling the world to various workshops. I spend some evening researching new technology to stay on top of my craft but what I dont do and dont have time to do is follow forums regularly.
Therefore i dont know that this person has repeatedly said the same thing over and over in different threads about applications causing KP.
You suggested that I take my trouble shooting somewhere else...trust me this is not the first place ive tried to get answer.s I have been trying to resolve this issue since i updated to 10.9.4 and CC 14 and Nvidia Quadro pro 4000. It  has been months of phone calls research, forums, talking to anyone i know that knows anything and  I have lost thousands of dollars.  My digital lab ran perfect before the updates.
    so......
First...I DISAGREE with the guy in the thread because what he wrote is just his opinion. It doesnt matter wjho he works for, it a person converses a fact with NO REFERENCES then it looses credibility.  I always include a reference when I make a statement to anyone
second: as i said in my discussion -- i have done everything and the only time i get kernel panics is when using photoshop - nothing else running in the background, and the issue is with the video card drivers , 10.9.4 and photoshop and lightroom CC14.
lastly; I know my video card is fine because Ive had photoshoots where i tethered (as I alwasy do) to Phocus software for my Hasselblad H4d and there is never a crash or kernel panic issue. ever.
I ONLY GET KERNEL PANICS WHEN I USE ADOBE PHOTOSHOP OR LIGHTROOM  CC14 AND IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED SINCE I UPDATED TO 10.9.4 AND CC14
apple told me to do a restore --  they were just reading  me what they were supposed to say.

  • I need to connect my LED cinema display to nvidia quadro 4000 graphics card

I cant find any adapter to connect my "LED cinema display" to the brand new graphics card "nvidia quadro 4000 (for Mac pro)"
As i coldnt find any information since now, ihope someone can give me a hint.

They included the wrong DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort adapter.  The correct adapter should have a female Mini DisplayPort connector, not male.  You could buy the correct adapter or you could add a F-F Mini DisplayPort coupler

Try calling the, and asking for the correct adapter.  They fo say:
"Connect to mini-DisplayPort displays through the included adapter cable"

  • NVidia Quadro 4500 for mac and pc question

I am thinking of purchasing a new Mac Pro 3.0GHz Quad-Core desktop with the nVidia Quadro 4500 graphics card. I want to run Solidworks on Windows XP SP2 and also be able to boot into Mac OS X. I have done hours of research trying to make sure it will work but can't seem to find any posts that suggest my system will work as I intend.
I have found out that the nVidia Quadro 4500 needs to configured for the mac (firmware) and that you just can't buy one from eBay and install it. There are PC versions and Mac versions. Also, flashing it to work with a mac is very difficult and may damage the card if you get it wrong. Not something I want to do.
So, my question is: If I buy this Mac Pro from Apple with the nVidia Quadro 4500 card already installed, will I have any problems with it working on the window side of things when I boot into Windows XP? Does anyone have the setup that I am talking about and also running SolidWorks on the Windows side?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
    Yee Ha!

    Hi,
Mac OS X Leopard has Boot Camp included with the software. I have read online (Apple site amongst others) the BootCamp bundled with Leopard has all the drivers for Windows included, so you no longer need to create a disc with the drivers needed for Windows (as you did under the BootCamp beta version).
That being the case, Leopard should have the required drivers for your Quadro FX 4500 to function under Windows.
    See here for details:
    http://www.apple.com/uk/macosx/features/bootcamp.html
    Hope this helps

    Hello masterqueue.
This desktop was a CTO (Configured-to-Order) model.  As such, there is a lot of information I do not know about the machine.  Most importantly, how large is the power supply?  According to the computer's specification page it could have anywhere from a 300 watt to a 600 watt power supply.  That is a very big difference.
I'll keep an eye out for your response.  Have a great day.
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"
Click the "Accept as Solution" button if I resolve your issue.

  • Update of photoshop CC - trouble with NVIDIA Quadro 1000M display driver. PS freezes

    Hey guys,
Since today I've got trouble with my PS CC.
I've updated PS CC yesterday 2014-12-12.
I was doing some drawings today and two times PS freezes during switching layers of or selecting a mask.
A message appeared that there was trouble with the display driver an PS switched off the GPU support because of that issue.
Ok, I thought let's update the display driver and so I've done today. I switched to actual NVIDIA display driver version 314.21
I'm working with an NVIDIA Quadro 1000M on a DELL mobile Workstation Precision M4600 with 8 GB RAM.
Now when I start up PS and press alt+k, my 2 displays showing a black screen for 1-2 seconds.
After closing the general setup window again black screen for 1-2 sec and the top menu bar is showing no entries.
When I move the mouse pointer over the bar, the menus appear again. But the bar is like transparent at the parts where no menues are.
When I unlock the window from the screen an put it back fitting to the screen everything looks like normal.
Till today I hadn't any problem with my notebook in that kind of way.
Maybe someone has or had similar problems.
Would be nice if someone can help me.
    thanks

Oh, that sounds very bad. It's not that bad for me. It's not crashing that often at the moment, only black screens at start up or if setting dialog is opened. But I will see tomorrow how often it will crash, during today it crashed 2 times when doing some ridiculous simple actions like switchid to another layer  and the other time when trying to edit an mask layer. I will contact the support chat on monday regarding this issue. Maybe there is a solution or an update soon... I keep may fingers crossed for you.

  • Driver please! NVidia Quadro NVS 140M Windows 7 64-bit

Installed Windows 7 RTM (Professional, x64) on my T61.  Surprise!  There's no driver for my NVidia Quadro NVS 140M, and I can't install the one that I downloaded from NVidia.  I'm stuck in 1024x768.  Ouch!
    What's the plan, Stan?
If there are any driver hackers out there who could help me install NVidia's driver, please speak up.

I'm running now using the NVidia-provided driver for Windows 7 x64.  I was able to install it by running the installer in Vista compatibility mode.
For Windows 7 newbies, the specific steps are:
     * Download the installer (186.81_notebook_win7_winvista_64bit_international_whql.exe)
     * Run this file to extract the files to C:\DRIVERS\WIN\VIDEO
     * For the two files nvudisp.exe and setup.exe in  C:\DRIVERS\WIN\VIDEO, do the following:
     * Right-click the file, select Properties.
     * Click the Compatibility tab
     * Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"  Select "Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)
     * Click OK.
Then double-click setup.exe to run it.
So far this is working for me.

  • Mac Pro 3.1 (early 2008) and nVIDIA Quadro FX5600

    Hi all,
I am triying to install nVIDIA Quadro FX5600 on a Mac Pro 3.1 (early 2008).
Well, indeed I have been using this graphics card in this computer already, however, a few hours after installing the card, I updated the Mac OS, and there began the problems.
    Characteristics:
    -Mac Pro 3.1 (early 2008)
    -2 x 2,8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    -12GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
    Graphics cards:
-slot 1: ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
    -slot 2: nVIDIA Quadro FX5600
The story is a little bit long, however I think it is important to give the maximum information:
1-I purchased the nVIDIA Quadro FX5600, and took the computer and the card to an apple reseller to install it.
2-They installedit, physically, in slot 2, and left in slot 1 the ATI Radeon, the card included in the computer when I purchased it.
3-They told me that after installing the drivers in Mac OS 10.10.2, when restarting the computer after installing, they had kernel panic problems.
4-They installed the card in another Mac computer with Mac OS 10.9.5 to check if the card was compatible with Mac, and it worked perfectly.
5-And finally, "they say", that they repeated the same operation than in point 2 and 3, also in my computer, and this time they didn't have kernel panic problems. So I took the computer at home, ready to use my new graphics card
6-When I arrived at home, I worked about 4/5 hours with the computer, and before ending the day and closing the computer, I installed two Mac updates. One of them was a security update and the other one an iMovie update. The first one worked, however the iMovie one didn't, it gave an error. I decided to give no importance and close the app store.
7-Just after closing the app store, it appeared a message from nVidia controller, saying that there was a new update. So I install it, and once installed, it recommended to restart the computer, so I restarted.
8-When the computer restarted, before loading the Mac OS desktop, they appeared the kernel panic problems, and seconds after the computer restarted automatically again. The same thing continuosly, all the time.
9-The computer's disk is divided into two parts, Mac OS and Windows 7 professional. So I decided to erase all the content in the Mac OS part and install the OS 10.10.2 again from zero (I have a copy in time machine of all my documents).
10-Once Mac OS 10.10.2 (14C1510) installed again, I have installed the Quadro & Geforce Mac OS X driver release 343.02.02 again which is the driver compatible with the operative system.
11-The same problem has occured, when restarting the computer after installing the drivers, the same problem as in point 3 occurs again.
12-I repeated the same operation as in point 9 and 10, however, this time, before restarting the computer after installing the nVIDIA drivers, I installed the CUDA 6.5.46 driver, and the same problem has occured.
The key is that the computer has been working with this graphics card, however, the story has turned crazy...
Anyone has experienced the same problems? Any clue about it?
    Many thanks in advanced!

You probably read how that 10.10.2 security update changed the build number of the OS, how Apple is still using really old Nvidia driver from 10.8.2.
So called "Security Update 2015-002" from today will purposely break nVidia drivers! ( 1 2 3)
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1853748
Mixing ATI and Nvidia in older versions of Windows was a no-no.
With 10.10 I would ditch the 2600XT, it is doing nothing for you except taking up a slot.
you really just could ask and no need to drag 60 lbs and have someone else put a GPU in and attach the 6-pin aux power.

  • T61 will not boot with nvidia quadro 140m driver

    Hi all,
A couple of weeks ago, after allowing MS update to install some FTDI driver updates, my system will not boot up and hangs shortly after the initial vista loading screen. The screen goes black with some HD activity and eventually reboots. After trying a couple of restore points with no luck, I started to remove the latest driver updates and other software to my system again with no luck.
If I uninstall the nvidia driver and use the Standard VGA driver, it will boot and come up properly. I've done a bunch of web searches and searches on this site and can't find my exact circumstances. Its hard to believe that it could be a  hardware issue since it started after a software update, but since it hasn't been a problem for anyone else, I'm just not sure at this point.
I've tried earlier versions of the nvidia driver, removing other drivers and services trying to find a coincidence, but nothing seems to work. I'm kind of at a loss at this point. Does anyone have some suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

Also, does anyone know if using the Standard VGA Display driver without problems on this system means that the video card hardware is working? In other words, I'm trying to rule out a hardware problem with my nvidia quadro 140m card, so if the system works fine with the standard vga driver, would that mean the hardware on the card is ok?
    Thanks,
    Dave
