NVidia Quadro K600 vs GTX 560

Hello all!
I have repurposed my home office HP Elite MiniTower 8300 into an editing rig. It already had an i7 so all I did was bump the RAM to 16GB and replace the system drive with a shiny new fast 512GB SSD from Transcend. Added 2x 3TB WD Black Drives for storage. But now the video card...I can afford the PNY K600 with 1GB or stretch the budget a little extra and get a Palit GTX 560 Ti with 2GB RAM for another 50 $
I know this question has been flogged to death between the Quadro and Gaming cards but the new Qudro K series - do they change the playing field?
Which card will give Premiere and PhotoShop the most bang?
Many thanks for any pointers!

Quadro's are overpriced and underperforming. It is a protected brand of nVidia and they steal you blind with their A-brand reputation. It is their cash-cow. I have yet to find a Maximus configuration for a whopping $ 6K come even close to a GTX 680 that only costs $ 500. The ONLY reason to choose a Quadro card is when you really NEED 10 bit output to equally exorbitant 10-bit monitors.
You may want to have a look at http://ppbm7.com/index.php/news and scroll down to see a limited comparison of video cards and their performance with PR. If you have the choice between a GTX 560 Ti and a GTX 660, I would go for the 660, because it consumes less power, runs quieter and can steer up to 4 monitors.

  • Nvidia Quadro 600, GeForce GTX 560 Ti or cheaper for Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 3?

    Hello,
I am a professional photographer and I am setting up a new PC (i7, Windows 7 64bit). But I have some troubles to choose the graphic card.
I use Lightroom and Photoshop CS5 3, no video editing.
Between the Open GL, Open CL, CUDA accelerations etc ... professional graphic cards models and consumer ones I am lost!
The Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti seems more powerful and more versatile but I tell myself that if Nvidia has professional range there must be a reason.
So in Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 3 what would be the best: GeForce GTX 560 Ti or Nvidia Quadro 600?
    http://www.geforce.com/Hardware/GPUs/geforce-gtx-560ti/specifications
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/product-quadro-600-us.html
Any reason to get a Quadro 2000?
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/product-quadro-2000-us.html
Or the graphic card doesn’t matter much and I should take an entry-level GeForce to enjoy the HDMI and the silence? Which one then?
Does the Quadro 600 manages 10bits display 10bits? And the Geforce?
Any change announced with Photoshop CS6 and Ligthroom4?
The only 3D application I use is Google Earth in 3D mode, does it make any difference?
    Thank you for your help.

You say "no video editing"...  If that's going to be the case, and you won't use the Mercury engine in the Adobe Premiere Pro package, which needs the nVidia Cuda subsystem, then I recommend you consider the ATI brand over nVidia.
    Why?
Because while neither brand's developers (ATI or nVidia) always release perfect drivers, I find ATI display drivers to be of consistently higher quality than that of nVidia releases.  What this means to you is generally fewer crashes or quirks.  ATI has also traditionally supported older cards into the future better than nVidia - this might matter to you in a few years.
People ask me what video card I would recommend, and right now that would be a VisionTek ATI Radeon HD 6670 1 GB GDDR5 card.  I like this particular card because:
I've had 100% success with VisionTek cards in a number of different systems, not only initially but they have all run as long as I have used them, without ever breaking down.
The 6670 model uses very little power (under 70 watts) and as such doesn't stress your computer's power supply, need a separate power connection, nor make a lot of fan noise.
It's not the fastest card made for 3D gaming, but it's inexpensive and excellent for Photoshop.  No matter what you choose, you should get a card that scores over 500 on the Passmark GPU benchmark, ideally over 1000:  http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/
The ATI Catalyst display driver implementations for the 4670/5670/6670 line of cards have been good and solid.
1 GB of on-card memory seems to be a good size, even for editing a lot of images, and GDDR5 memory provides faster access than DDR3.
You should know that besides using Photoshop heavily, I also develop OpenGL-based software as well, so I have some additional insight into driver implementations.

  • I have an Nvidia GTX 560, yet 310.19 wont work

Irritated and baffled by this. This page clearly states that my GTX 560 is supported by 310.19 (as it should...this card isn't that old), yet after installing the new driver and rebooting, Xorg fails to start, and error logs say that the Nvidia kernel module couldn't be initialized.

  • Problem with 3 monitors Intel HD Graphics and GeForce GTX 560

I would like to attach 3 monitors to my box -- 1 to integrated Intel card and 2 to discreet Nvidia. I've tried different configs but I failed to make monitors connected to different cards to work at the same time. I have system with stock kernel, latest updates and the following configuration:
    $ lspci | egrep "VGA|Disp"
00:02.0 Display controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF114 [GeForce GTX 560 Ti] (rev a1)
    $ pacman -Qi xorg-server xf86-video-intel nvidia awesome-git linux | egrep "Name|Version"

    Version : 1.17.1-3
    Name : xf86-video-intel
    Version : 2.99.917-3
    Name : nvidia
    Version : 346.47-3
    Name : awesome-git
    Version : 3.5.2.397.gdde5b1b-1
    Name : linux
    Version : 3.18.6-1
    $ lsmod | egrep 'i915|nvidia'
    nvidia 8335766 46

    button 12953 1 i915

    intel_gtt 17848 2 i915,intel_agp
I've tried different xorg configs. Here is the best one. All 3 monitors are active with it (I could drag cursor over them) but only 2 (which connected to nvidia card) display DE.

    Hi:
There is a specific order you need to install the graphics drivers for the notebooks with the nvidia/intel graphics.
    1. Install the Intel chipset installation utility and reboot.  If the one on your notebook's support page doesn't work, use this one.
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=20775&lang=eng&ProdId=816
    2. Install the Intel HD graphics driver and reboot.  If the one on your notebook's suport page doesn't work, try this one.
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24348
    3. Install the nVidia HD graphics driver and reboot.  If the one on your notebook's support page doesn't work, try this one.

  • GTX 560 ti twin frozr windows crash

    Hi ladies and gents,
my pc won't boot into windows when I install any nvidia drivers for my gtx 560. Other gpus I've tried work in the system.
After the welcome screen I get blackness. I can boot into safe mode and see that windows recognises the gpu but after removing the drivers I am back to square one.
    Please help!

ps I've flashed the mobo to the latest bios update. No change.

have you done >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed?
    if yes and no change:
    contact assus support about it
or/and test the vga in another machine

  • Nvidia GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr driver hanging.. even after fresh OS install

    Dear,
    Sorry for my english
I'm facing issue with my Nvidia GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II, and I saw other do have...
    My config :
When using windows, or games (I'm Crysis addicted ) I get a screen freeze, a blank (black) screen and after seconds a video driver message saying that it recovers the display as it were not responding anymore....
It happens without reason to me and temperature isn't related as it happen even with a temp of 45°c....
    I've tried :
    Updating driver, downgrading them,
    Re installing Windows (x64),
Updating motherboard Bios (P55a-UD3R Gigabyte with latest bios version)
Flashing my OCZ Vertex 3 SSD (a pain ....)
Upgrading my power supply to a Corsair 750GS
    Nothing corrects the problem.
At last I 'm looking to upgrade video bios but I don't want to brick my precious video card...
So I'm requesting your help to use "THE" good file version of video bios using  NVFlash 5.118 for Windows for example.
Overclocking isn't my goal, stability is...
Thanks a lot for your help... as I ain't find video bios file on MSI support site....

  • GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II - Nvidia drivers keep crashing?

Until recently I owned a GF8800 GT 512MB which worked like a charm. Never had a single problem with it. I bought the MSI GTX 560 Ti about a month ago. Ever since then I've had the nvidia drivers crash randomly every few hours. I though it might be a driver bug so I waited for an update, but since then I've updated the drivers twice (2 new stable releases and 1 beta), tried a "clean install" also and every version had the same problem. So it's obviously not a driver issue.
When I say crash, I mean the screen goes blank, the monitor turns itself off for a few secs, and when it comes back on, I get a tray notification that the "Nvidia driver stopped working/crashed and has recovered" (something like that).
I'd also like to point out that my PC really is 100% rock solid/stable and I have zero other problems besides this GPU issue.
Is this a faulty GPU or is there a solution for this annoying problem?
    PC specs:
    CPU: i7 930
    MB: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
    RAM: 3x2GB DDR3 1600MHz 8-8-8-24 Corsair
GPU: GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II 1GB DDR5
    HDD: Intel SSD 320 120GB, 2x320GB Seagate (Raid0), 1x500GB Seagate
    PSU: Corsair VX650W
    OS: Win7 x64 Ultimate
EDIT: In case it helps, this has so far only happened during normal work in windows, never during gaming. So my guess would be a problem with the 2d software/hardware perhaps?
EDIT2: Kombustor temps are: 35-40 idle, 75-77 on load (no user overclock ofc, only the factory one).

I recently bought the Gigabyte GTX 560 Ti SOC and I'm having similar problems too. So I guess Rasha here is correct when saying:
But it's not as annoying as it sounds, because, at least for me, the driver might restart only one time during a desktop session and then it's stable for the whole time along. I have been playing Skyrim these days with no problems. I do suspect too that firefox - flash might be one of the causes of the problem. I might try the older drivers Rasha speaks off later today.
There is definitely a problem with the 28x.xx and 290.36 beta drivers.  Please see link below:
    http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=215256
I am having this 'TDR' problem as well and have been helping nVidia by testing some drivers.  Not really sure how long it will take to fix this but ManuelG (nVidia customer relations) did say the new WHQL driver has been delayed as they are trying to find a fix.

Observed: Rapid texture flickering on objects at short, random intervals. Problem exacerbated when zooming in. Settles after some time but returns to flicker randomly.
Behaves as though it's jumping to lower LODs because of lack of memory or something.
htt p://i944.photobucket.com/albums/ad288/scajolly/helpme.jpg <--- Screenshot ( shows the problem on the left side, not on the right side.
Attempted to change all individual graphical settings available in the game from lowest/off to highest, none sufficed to remove the bug (though of course I could not try all n^n combinations). Also tried Nvidia beta-driver, did nothing.
Problem was reproduced on another computer which also used the same GPU (not got the specs for it yet though).
    The equipment used:
    CPU: Intel i5-2500k, 3.3GHz, OC'd to 4.2GHz
    MB: MSI P67A-C45 (MS-7673)
    Memory: 2x Corsair 4GB 1600 DDR3
    HD: Samsung HD502HJ ATA
GPU: MSI Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr
    GPU driver: 295.73 (latest)
    OS: Win 7 64b
PSU: CoolerMaster GX 550W 12V (beware, fault reproduced on a separate but similar rig with far bigger PSU)

    Hello Svet,
No, I do not encounter issues in any other games.
As an addendum, the above texture flickering will also occur when I am at stock CPU speed -- 3.3GHz.

  • Nvidia GTX 560 Ti support

Hello. I'll be buying a new PC. One important aspect of the new configuration for me is the support for linux. The hardware that I think most linux folks have problem with is the graphics card. I want you to give me your opinion on Nvidia GTX 560 Ti. How well does it perform on linux and are there any significant problems that I may encounter should I decide to buy it?

I have one, it has had a couple of issues with the open-source (nouveau) drivers in the past year which prevented booting for several kernel releases. If you use the propriety blob, you'll probably be okay.
    Plays TF2 on Linux flawlessly.

  • Enhancing GPU: 2 cards GeForce GTX 770 connected with SLI  or Nvidia Quadro K5000?

Hello, I'm going to start working with video files of 4k raw format (Premiere, After Effects, SpeedGrade, RedGiant plug-ings). Now I have a video card GPU Nvidia GeForce GTX 770, but I was told that game video cards GeFroce have limited  fukntsional when working with video in Premiere. Is it really so? If I change my card to Nvidia Quadro K5000 which has close characteristics, will I get any extra features working in Adobe programms (Premiere, SpeesGrade, After Effect)? Does it make sense in such a substitution? Or is it better to buy a second GTX 770 and put them in SLI? Will Adobe support that?

No, the Geforce cards don't have a limitation with 4K media and the GPU acceleration. The GPU acceleration ie CUDA is not specific to either Geforce or Quadro. The specs of the cards decide the performance. The Geforce Specs are far greater than the Quadro K5000 if you get the 780Ti or the Titan Black Edition. Both cards are cheaper. The only benefit the Quadro card has in regards to Adobe is the 10bit color output option for preview since Adobe is Open GL based for the API. However you can get a Blackmagic 4K studio card with a Titan Black edition and still spend less money than the K5000 while having far better performance. I personally run a E5-2697 V2 12 Core Xeon with a 770GTX 4GB card and I play 4K r3d back at half resolution easily right now. Full resolution for preview with 4K red is simply not possible via any software other than Redcine X Pro right now until the GPU acceleration debayering is available. BTW I would suggest 1 Titan Black edition over 2x 770GTX cards. The scaling across GPU's only works on rendering right now. When the GPU acceleration debayer is available then adding a 2nd Titan card would be far better than having 2x 770GTX cards.
SLI and GPU acceleration are 2 different technologies. SLI is scaling the drawing to the display across more than 1 video card. GPU acceleration is a programming module that send calculations to the GPU for processing that were normally processed by the player via the CPU. GPU acceleration does not require or even use SLI to scale across GPU's. That is managed and scheduled by the application.

  • Nvidia GTX 470 1.28GB vs GTX 560 1.0GB

I have a NVIDIA GTX 470 with 1.28 GB memory (purchased but not installed) and an installed GTX 560 with 1 GB of memory.  As of this date I can return either according to the vendor.
I am looking for guidance as to which of these cards would be the better to use with Premiere CS5.  Currently I am doing a lot of work with large still image files.
I realize that I would need to "hack" Premiere to implement the MPE with the GTX560 but the card seems to be an improvement, if not a fairly major improvement, over the GTX 470.  Wikipedea says that "The Nvidia Geforce 500 Series graphics cards are significantly modified versions of the Nvidia GeForce 400 Series graphics cards, in terms of performance and power management."  Wikipedea goes on to explain the improvements in words that I fail to comprehend. On the other hand the GTX 470 has another 25% of memory on board which might be important, too.
    Any thoughts?  Thanks

    > Remember, especially with large pixel dimensions, that PR will fall back
(without warning) to software mode if it runs out of VRAM, so the
larger amount of memory on a 470 may be an advantage.

  • NVidia Quadro 4000 and early 2008 Mac Pro (3,1)

    Hi to all.
I think my display card just died.
I've been wanting to get the NVidia Quadro 4000 for a while now as I do editing professionally and would like to make the Adobe Production suite zippier.
So now, I have no functional card for my monitors. Can I use the NVidia Quadro 4000 for my Dell monitors? One of the Dell's has a DVI-D2 input but the other has only VGA as far as I can tell. Or does it make more sense to get a different card? Or both the Quadro and a lower level card?
Also, does the NVidia Quadro 4000 need extra power and if so, how easy is it to connect and would I be able to use the DVD burner?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Running Snow Leopard, 18GB RAM

So many questions and so little time... lunch!
    There is Wikipedia.
    AMD = OpenCL
    Nvidia = OpenCL and CUDA
CUDA is part of every Nvidia card, GeForce GTX or Quadro
Open source compiler to make CUDA and OpenCL much easier and better (OpenCL is 4-5 yrs old but a pain to code and optimize with a lot of micro management. Not today but AMD's support for just OpenCL is limiting. But something to support both technologies is a year away probably.
Dual boot is a must! Clone your system / or install Lion on 2nd drive
Setup Assistant to import from 10.6 to Lion so you have both.
    Clones as backup.
Out of the box: the startup is missing on screen without the modification. The drivers are normally and only found bundled into OS X which is why you don't normally see or have to go to AMD to get the latest driver. Or downgrade to a better working driver. you have to rely on OS X and version.
That is why GTX 5xx and 10.7.3
OWC charges more than Amazon or Apple and charges for 6-pin cable. The 5770 does work - with 10.6.5 or later. It does not work with older OS - no driver. It does not allow you to boot from your 10.6.0 DVD and install.
You could order the GTX 570 (I'd skp on 560, I have looked into both but up to you). And 680s are not supported yet, and still scarce. But great card for the $499.
The GTX 570 2.5GB was the one recommended with its 2.5GB VRAM. $349.
    http://www.evga.com/products/
To get a boot screen means modifying the card which means sending it to Calif and $100 + shipping.
Some people use the GTX purely for CUDA and still use ATI 5770 for their monitor.
Oh, yes, died. No card on hand as backup or spare.
Shame. I'd toss coin and then go with.... Q4K but
    http://www.amazon.com/PNY-DisplayPort-Profesional-Graphics-VCQ4000MAC-PB/dp/B004 CRS78O
You could wait and see. I'd over night the Q4K for $810, then see how that does, it does have 2x the VRAM. And you could use GTX 570 or 680 down the road when you do upgrade to Lion plus.

  • MSI GTX 560 TI Hawk Unstable?

I have a brand new custom built PC with two MSI 560 TI Hawk cards in SLI and I have a problem with playing games on this system. I've tried Portal 2, Far Cry 2, Two Worlds 2 and The Witcher 2. All games seem unstable with comparable problems:
Random lock-ups for 10-20 seconds with audio looping
Random small jitters, frame drops and stutters, including audio stutters
Sometimes my whole system freezes so I have to push the reset button
    Artifacts
Flickering parts of the horizon, sky or ground in the game
Sometimes the game runs fine for a few minutes and then the problems start happening, sometimes they are there from the beginning.
I tried to eliminate possible causes one by one to narrow out the actual problem. Even disabling SLI and running on a single card doesn't help.
Here are the things I tried:
Monitor GPU temperatures with GPU-Z: didn't show anything unusual, around 35 degrees idle to 65-70 degrees stressed
Disable SLI: didn't fix the problem
Download MSI drivers v266.44 (older version than current NVidia drivers): didn't fix it and I couldn't find the SLI option in these drivers so i switched back to v280.26
Check driver and firmware version with MSI Live Update 5: everything seemed to be up to date
Remove graphics cards: cleaning the connections and re-installing, didn't fix it
Stress the cards with FurMark: no issues detected and temperatures seemed normal (70 degrees stressed)
Lower the stock clock speed (950 Mhz) to the standard non-overclocked speed (822 Mhz): this seemed to help at first and the problems didn't occur for a while. But while i'm testing right now Portal 2 froze and stuttered a few times again. Although it seems like it happens less often. So this might be a clue to my problem. Anyway I didn't pay extra money for these overclocked cards to underclock them back to standard so I would like to make the cards run on stock settings (950 Mhz).
    Here are my system specifications:
Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.4 Ghz (stock speed)
    Mainboard: Asus P8Z68 V-Pro
    Memory: 2x Corsair Vengeance 4GB DDR3 CL9 12800 Mhz
    SSD: Crucial M4 256GB SSD
HDD: 2x WD Caviar Blue - Raid 0
Graphics: NVidia Geforce GTX 560 TI Hawk 1GB SLI
    PSU: Corsair TX750 V2 (750 watt)
I hope you can help me to fix this issue because I'm out of ideas right now....
    Thanks in advance

Well I've tried some more things but it's all still very weird and not helping at all   I will explain my findings in the order i tested the cards this time, after every card-switch i did a clean re-install of the VGA drivers:
    Card-2
I've ran the OCCT test for one hour on card-2, i got zero errors and temperature never went above 76 degrees with a fan speed around 68%. After this i tried testing some games again and I found out there were still problems regardless of me saying that card-2 did fine before. In Portal 2 I was leaving the game on for a while and after a few minutes it froze with audio looping. I found out that when I use ctrl+alt+del to go to the task manager and then go back to the game it recovered and I could continue playing (weird??!). The same thing happened with The Witcher 2, freezing with audio loop and going to task manager and back let me continue playing. This happened every few minutes.
    Card-1
Now it was time to try card-1 again. This time this card didn't seem to have the frequency problems I mentioned before but the problems didn't go away. Portal 2 let the game freeze within a minute, and I could use the same strategy (task manager) to continue, but this time after a few seconds it would freeze again and again. The same happened with The Witcher 2. Then I tried Far Cry 2 and this game had the same flickering problems as with card-2 but a lot worse... it was almost everywhere. Even sometimes the flickering had a checkerboard kind of shape. Now I ran the OCCT test with this card and there were no problems. Another strange thing was that when I was looking at the graph after the test, the temperature was much lower (65 degrees) and the graph line of the framerate was very straight (stable) along the test. This was different than with card 2 where the framerate and temp were higher and not so stable.
After all it appears i have comparable problems with both cards, only with card-1 they are much worse.

  • Can't get GeForce GTX 560 Ti card CUDA to work with new Premiere Pro CC 2014 version

In the past I've been able to get CUDA on my GeForce GTX 560 Ti card to work with Mercury Playback engine by adding "GeForce GTX 560 Ti" to the cuda_supported_cards.txt file. But with the new CC 2014 version of Premiere, that file isn't in the Premiere Pro directory anymore. Is there a way to get my GTX 560 Ti to be listed as a CUDA-supported card with CC 2014?

Okay, I figured it out.  I installed the latest graphics driver and then opened the NVIDIA control panel.  In there I selected "Manage 3D settings" and went to the "program settings" tab.  I selected Adobe Premiere (adobe premiere pro.exe) from the list and under the "CUDA - GPUs" feature, I changed it to "Use these GPUs" and selected my GTX 560 Ti (which was the only one listed).
After doing that, I opened Premiere Pro CC 2014 and selected "Project Settings - General" and was then able to choose "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration" under Renderer (which had previously been unavailable).
Hopefully this will help someone else if they encounter the same problem.
