Nvidia Raid Driver

Is there any way to stop the raid driver screen from showing up while booting? Also is there any way to have the bios remember what ide devices are installed so it doesnt have to search for them every time you restart? I would like to speed up my boot times.

Hi pmontone ,
Welcome to the forum,
1) Only by turning off raid.
2) No, as you don't give any further details can't help specifically. By making sure all ATA drives are jumpered correctly detection will be helped.

The problem is with trying to Install Windows XP [Upgrade]. (Clean Install)
    K7N2 Delta2-LSR
I tried using the nForce3 SATA RAID Driver For Win2k/XP after pressing F6,
    during XP Install.
They don't work, and after trying a couple of times - got an error reading.
This Motherboard has an nForce2 Chipset, so I read the Manual.
It showed how to make an Floppy SATA RAID Driver Disk.
I tried to copy the SATA RAID Drivers from the MSI Driver's CD - but
    got Disk Full.
Then I downloaded an Program to Format Floppy at 1.72MB, and copied
all the necessary files to Floppy.
Tried using it after pressing F6, but got Error - Unrecoginized Format.
(The Floppy did read OK, MS-WIN ME)
BTW I thought this Motherboard used nForce2 SATA RAID, why they include
nForce3 SATA RAID Driver Floppy - I wonder.
Any way to get SATA RAID Driver's that will fit on FDD 1.44MB ?

    [size=18]UPDATE[/size][/b]
I looked at the nForce3 SATA RAID Driver, and the Folder raidtool was not on it.
They Manual said to copy all files (Including Folders) to Floppy.
(This wasn't posible, because of size limitation - 1.44 MB)
So I made an SATA RAID Driver from the MSI CD, except I didn't copy the
    Folder raidtool.
I tried to install Windows XP Again, it Took the SATA RAID Drivers OK -
but after it said Setup loading files and the STALLS at Setup is Starting
    Windows.
Tried it again, except this time I got this error:
(File txtsetup.oem caused an unexpected error (1024) at line 1747 in
    d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c.)
If I don't Press F6, it shows the partitions:
39080 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR]
    C: Partition1 [FAT32] 78160 MB (77280 MB free)
39080 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR]
    Unpartitioned space 39080MB
I was able to Format with NTFS (Successfully), but it wasn't recongized.
(Figured that it wouldn't - Because I was able to get SATA RAID Driver's loaded Successfully)
Just wanted to see what it would do.

  • Bad Raid Driver Floppy?

    Hey everyone
So i followed Rsheppicks guide for multiple drive arrays and it seemed to work. I got to the point where i had to hit F6 and put in the nvidia raid driver floppy disk in. THen i hit S and it told me to put in the manufacturer supplied ardware support disk in. I put the floppy in and hit enter. However for some reason it wont read the floppy no matter how much i try. ive had this filoppy drive for about a year and it has always worked before. So i dont know whether the floppy drive/mobo combo is one of those unfortunate ones or perhaps the floppy is bad?....i dont know. BTW the floppy drive is that Sony MPF 920 or whatever

Is the avtivity light on the floppy on all the time?  If so, you hooked up your floppy drive backward... reverse the cable now.  I did the same thing on my setup, the Sony drive I have will allow you to hookup the cable either way.  If not, I also had a corrupt NVRaid floppy (took me awhile to figure out both were the problem), just download the correct installs from MSI's website here and make sure your floppy is connected properly... you should have no problems after that.  Hope this helps, peace.

  • NVidia RAID using existing drives?

    Hi folks --
Just installed WinXP x64 (build 1218). I've been using an Adaptec 1200A RAID controller with 2 200GB Maxtor PATA133 drives in a RAID1 config.
Unfortunately, there seems to be no 64-bit driver available for that controller card (I've checked Adaptec, planetAMD64, various other places). So the question is: can I set up these drives as RAID1 on the nVidia built-in controller without losing data? These are not bootable drives -- storage only.
The MSI mobo booklet explains a "Rebuild Array" option, where if one of the drives in the array fails, the data on the remaining drive can be mirrored to a new one. Will that work if the source drive was not part of an nVidia array to start with?
I can't afford to lose that data, and I have no place to back it up (without buying another drive). So don't even wanna risk it without some guidance!
One possible complication: the system also includes a Promise Tx ATA133 controller, which is controlling the boot drive (Win64 included a 64-bit driver for this). There is no conflict under Win2k, however.
Anyone have some savvy on this? Or know where to get a 64-bit controller for the Adaptec card?
    Thanks!
    SYSTEM:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    AMD64 3500+
    1 GB Crucial PC3200 DDR
    Dual boot: Win2k, WinXPx64
    Promise Tx ATA133 IDE controller
    ATI 9800 XT
    Soundblaster Audigy2
PS: All the rest of this system is working fine, so if anyone is having probs with a similar setup, I'd be happy to help.

Earlier posts on this site,  may be in the sata/raid  sticky , that the only time a raid can be remade is when using the same controller. Doubt very much that Adaptec & Nvidia raid components are interchangable
i know to my cost on previous rigs that even changing a raid driver has caused the loss of data.
creating a new raid destroys any data on the target drives.
rebuild only applies to drives in an existing array created  i would guess with the same controller.
Chances also are that any 64 adaptec drivers will only be beta and your raid may be at risk changing to these from existing drivers.
my advise has to be if u cant back it up dont do it

  • Qosmio G30-175 - Where to find RAID driver for Windows 7?

I have a Toshiba Qosmio G30-175 and I need a raid-driver so I can install Windows 7. My operating system is XP and on Toshiba-homepage I can't find the driver.
    Can enyboby help, please?
    Kenneth

I have the Qosmio G35 AV600 and just successfully upgraded straight from XP to Win7 Ultimate (32-bit).
I was having problems finding the drivers as well - as Win7 wasn't recognizing the hard-drives.
I did have a copy of the Vista Upgrade Assistant disk from Toshiba. This helped in removing all of the XP drivers, then was great after installing Win7. Virtually all of the drivers appear to be working fine in Win7 - despite being designed for Vista. The only driver I did upload directly from the manufacturer was the Nvidia drivers - which work for all operating systems up to Win7.
If you don't have the memory stick (or have the Upgrade disk), you can do what I did: When it asks you to locate which hard drive you want to put it on, click on browse for driver, remove the win7 install disk, and insert the upgrade disk. You can find it in the following directory on the disk:
    Download\vistaup\auto\RAIDDrv
It will find it, download the driver, find the hard drives on your PC. Then, reinsert the Win7 media and install.
You should have no problems after this point.
I noticed that they do have a download on the website for Win7 assitance that you may want to try as well - I'm sure it has the same drivers that you would need.

If i disable raid, i still get the NV IDE BIOS screen, it just shows a message other than 'detecting array' with a flashing cursor and does exacly the same thing. It just wont get to the next stage.
I havent tried flashing the bios yet as my floppy seems to be dead. Could that help? Im not entirely sure if its the raid screen causing the problem anyway, it could be whatever is supposed to happen next, that just isnt.
    p.s. Clearing cmos didnt help.

  • D10 - Latest RAID driver & "paired" firmware - V7.6 vs. V8.9 ???

I am a bit concerned that perhaps Lenovo does not seem to be keeping up with new releases of RAID drivers and firmware for the S10/D10 machines.
The latest Lenovo-branded release for the RAID driver that I can find is now over a year old - V7.6 posted here:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-69984
However it appears from the Intel site that the "native" releases have zoomed ahead all the way to V8.9:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&Inst=Yes&ProductID=2864&DwnldID=15251&strOSs=...
I might consider upgrading using the Intel released drivers but I have learned from the xSeries machines that it is unwise to upgrade only the RAID drivers without upgrading the RAID firmware to the same level and I can not find the "matching"  V8.9 firmware upgrade.
Erik or andyP can you comment on this situation?
    Thanks!
    Jim
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    jim,
since controller firmware isn't being made available, drivers seem to be remaining stagnant.   it may be frustrating for those who like to keep their drivers as up-to-date as possible but, at the end of the day, what's currently available seems to be working fine -- at least in my experience.
while i don't use the intel controller on my D10, i do use the LSI controller.   the firmware is "out of date" by a considerable amount, yet everything is working perfectly fine day in and day out.   i'm running the latest driver offered by LSI but even that is over a year old.
unless you're seeing performance or stability issues, i wouldn't worry about your drivers or controller firmware.   i woud rather have an old driver that's been tested and proven to be rock-solid than have the latest driver with a ton of bugs.   i run into this all the time with nvidia drivers where the lenovo version for my FX 4800 runs great but the latest ones from nvidia always have a bug in different applications.
so, if i had your system, i'd run the driver offered by lenovo simply because it's a known-good driver.   after all, this is data storage we're talking about and you certainly don't want to lose data due to a bad driver or an incompatibility with your controller firmware.

Thanks for the response... I will take the chance and repost my question and my configurations to this forum... thanks
I work for a small company and we have a number of K7N2G-L boards with AMD 2100+ and 512M Corsair TwinX 3200LLPT memory. The boards are brand new and even though I know this isn't the best of solutions, I wish to use them for some 2003 server systems. As you would expect for a server setup I am not overclocking anything. I am also not turning on the modem, sound, parellel port and I may or may not turn on the USB ports but for now they are all off. I will definitely use the onboard video and NIC with the idea that if they ever fail I will have some cards on hand as a back-up. I have included the configurations below for each server but my question is simply:
Which chipset version and individual items should I actually install and which video driver should I install in order to provide the most stability for 2003 Server since their is no actual WHQL 2003 release.

  • Image Software on nVidia RAID arrays

Has anyone been able to get a disk imaging program to work with the nVidia RAID array?  I have tried Acronis True Image, Norton Ghost 9.0 and the old Drive Image. I have been unable get the rescue/recovery disks to recognize the RAID Array. With Acronis, it appears that they don't have the Linux drivers for the RAID array.  Ghost 9.0 is supposed to support RAID arrays, but when I try to load the drivers, I get a message that it can't find nvraid.sys, despite the fact that I supply that file on the floppy disk. I spent 1.5 hours on the phone with Symantec Technical Support and their only answer was that I would receive a phone call from a supervisor in 3 days.
I can get Norton Ghost to work from within windows, but in order to restore an image of my C: drive I need to gain access to the RAID array from the recovery disk.

I have sort of got it to work with ghost9 .
I have written a plug-in for nvraid/nvide for the bartWinPE cd made with PEBuilder 3032.
V2I Images can then be browsed with imagebrowser and files/catalogs be restored
    to arrays partitions .
The thing that does not yet work properly is the V2I protector executable cause the bart plug-in for .Net gives problems .(not sorted out this yet)
The BartWinPE cd is also of course equipped with ghost9 plugin .
So basicly the PC is booted with bootable Windows PE cd (like the ghost9 CD) ,
windows runs from cd&ram . And all the nvraid arrays is visible .Restoration made
    with V2I image browser .
    The plug-in ( INF file ) :

If the BartWinPE cd is equipped with ghost8 you should be able to restore
full disks/partitions with the *.gho extension .
But then the images must be buildt with ghost8 (from the BartWinPE cd first).
Though i have not had the time to test that yet .

  • Booting to Nvidia Raid......HELP pls!

    I am starting a new installation on a K8n Neo4 Platinum PCB(1).
I am trying use 2 WD 250 GB Sata 2's as a mirrored boot drive.
I enabled the Nvidia raid in bios, enabled the SATA ports, booted & entered the Nvidia RAID format, set my drives as mirrored & boot. Then rebooted.
I am installing windows 2000 Pro SP4. At the prompt I enter [F6] & installed the supplied diskette. Pressed S when prompted & loaded both drivers. I then get a stop error during windows installation.
Tried again with only 1 driver, same thing, then the other driver, same thing.
The Disc says WINXP so I replaced the HD & went to the internet, DL's the Win 2000 drivers & repeated the installation.
    Same thing.
    What can I do?

I do have the unused SATA ports turned off.
Will try that when I get home.
Spoke with MSI this moring there response was "DUH?".
Given all the probs with SATA-2 you might want to jumper the drives to SATA-1, at least until the install is done.  I'd also run the WD Diags first to make sure the drives are recognized and can be written/read through BIOS.

  • Nvidia IDE driver - yay or nay?

and is there any reason/benefit for single SATA drive owners to hit F6 and install the "Nvidia nForce3 SATA/RAID driver for Windows 2K/XP?"  i know that it's possible to install the OS without doing so.

you can install the os like windows xp without it

  • NVidia GART driver

I have the K8N Neo2 Plat mobo.  Just did a clean install of XP Pro.  However, whenever I install any version of the nvidia gart driver, I am 98% garanteed to freeze up on the XP loading screen with the colored progress bar. If i reset the machine enough times, it might actually boot, but for the most part, it just locks up.
I have checked this out thoroughly.  I installed each driver 1 by 1. And when i got to the gart driver, BINGO.
    Anyone know anything about this?
Do I need that GART driver?

No, I dont have access to another PSU.
    Cant unplug hdd, raid.
Just upgraded the CPU and board from an OCed 1700+ (385x9.0   1665Mhz) and an Abit NF7-S.   Don't think the power supply needs to be upgraded, just upgraded from a 350W Enermax b/c of the 6800GT.
Placing Dimms in slots 1 and 2 is a no go for Dual DDR, check the book.
    CHA1 CHB1 CHA2 CHB2
Will try lowering the cpu voltage to 1.4, already am using nforce 5.10
Downloaded the drivers multiple times, and installed windows twice. Formatting between the installs.
Just installed the gart again, and it booted, twice in a row.
ran 3dmark 03 b4 gart, and got an 8503 (bad), realize now why, gart good
got a 10113 under XP 64, gart installed fine there
running 3dmark 03 now on that machine

  • K8N Neo4 nVidia RAID metrics

I using nVidia RAID 1 Mirror setup and am wondering if there is any way to get metrics such as error counts, drive failure etc in Windows XP. Is there a software applications or does the firmware provide any hints as to the performance(Health) of the drives? My drives are WD Raptors.
    Bob...

Problem solved. BIOS 1.5 two times flashed and CMOS reset. New installation went fine (and better than the tens before).

  • Diamond Plus Nvidia RAID problem

Hello. I was able to set up nvidia raid in the BIOS and XP accepted the 2 drivers (F6) during install. However, when it gets to the point of formatting the array, Windows says it can't format the drive(s), "...maybe broken, etc." So, I tried the onboard Silicon Image raid and that worked fine. Windows installed without a problem. The only thing that bothered me was that HD Tach showed Burst Speed for the array as disappointingly slow. Actually, a few ticks less than the single ATA 150 drive they use for comparison. Every report I've seen with the Hitachi drives in raid 0 has them bursting above 300 mbs. But, the average read was an acceptable 97 mbs.
So, I got rid of the raid array and installed Windows on a single drive. Burst speed is 221 (a lot higher than with the SI RAID), but average read, naturally, is much less at around 47.
Questions: 1) Any suggestions on the problem I'm having with Nvidia Raid? I'd give it another try if there is a solution.
    2) Is RAID 0 really worth it? I'm mainly interested in gaming and everything I've read says there is no real world difference playing games with Raid 0.
BTW, the system is very stable either way (Raid/Single Drive). Prime 95 & memtest, no errors after 4/6 hours.

    Quote
Do I also need to load the SATA IDE driver after/before the 2 Raid drivers?
Both drivers need to be loaded for OS to se the array as one disk . You must do this with nvidia SATA raid .
Use the "S" a second time and load the second driver during the F6 install .

  • Nvidia RAID in WinXP64

    Hello All:
I have an MSI K8N SLI Platinum (7100 Rev 1.0) board.
It is running the 3.10 BIOS, using a 3800+ X2 'Manchester' rev E4 CPU and 2x1 GB of Geil 3-4-4-8  RAM.
Radeon 300 GPU (yeah, I was pinching pennies when I bought that one).
     Seasonic 500 W PSU.
No OC - everything plane jane.
     Cool 'n Quiet enabled
Presently I am running XP Pro SP2 and have the following drives:
    2 x WDC WD740GD Raptor 74 ('SATA I') - non-raid on SATA 1&2, boots off SATA 1.
2 x WDC2500KS ('SATA II') on SATA 3&4 set up as a Nvidia Raid 0
2 x Seagate Cheetah .8 series 250 GB ('SATA II') on SATA 5&6 set up as SiI Raid 0
This rig runs fine, with very nice benchmarks for the Raid units (well north of 100 MB/s) and good reliability (no RAID disasters [yet]).  I mostly use it for Photoshop.
I have tried running Photoshop under WinXP64 on another box (MSI 7207) with 2 x 1 GB RAM ans a 'Venice' 3500+ CPU and have seen nice increases in speed in many functions.  However, this system does not have the Raid setup that the K8N SLI Pt has.
So I have been trying to get XP64 to install on the 7100 (K8N SLI Pt) machine.
I do the dance of two floppies with the NVidia RAID and SiI Raid drivers during install and set XP64 up on the second Raptor on SATA 2. (XP Pro is on the onther one on SATA 1).
When XP64 boots the machine hangs.  I can boot into 'Safe Mode' but running MSCONFIG and disabling all the driver loading does not help - it still crashes when I boot XP64 in anything besides 'Safe Mode.'
I have tried an install w/o any of the RAID drivers and got a stable SP64 boot.
I ran MS Update and got all the relevant XP64 updates (my install disk is SP1, which is the latest SP for XP64).
I then installed the SiI drivers using Device Manager - that worked OK.  Nice box, Photoshop CS2 ran well, the SiI RAID gave nice benchmarks, etc.
I then installed the Nvidia RAID drivers using Device Manager - dead box with the same issues as above.
I have also tried an install with the SiI RAID drivers only and also got a stable SP64 boot and a dead box when I installed the Nvidia RAID drivers using Device Manager.
All drivers are all the most recent release (no Betas) downloaded off the MSI site, with the Nvidia RAID set dated 8/1/2005.
Right now I'm blaming the Nvidia RAID drivers, but am open to suggestion.
Anybody had experience with XP64 on this setup?
    Thanks,

    To clarify:
The rig in question (in the post above) is:
MSI K8N SLI Platinum (7100 Rev 1.0) board.
     3.10 BIOS
     CPU AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ 'Manchester' rev E4 CPU
2x1 GB of Geil 3-4-4-8  RAM dual channel DDR 400
     Radeon 300 GPU
     Seasonic 500 W PSU.
No OC - everything plane jane.
     Cool 'n Quiet enabled
Stable operation under XP Pro SP2 with the drives set up as follows:
    2 x WDC WD740GD Raptor 74 ('SATA I') - non-raid on SATA 1&2, boots off SATA 1.
2 x WDC2500KS ('SATA II') on SATA 3&4 set up as an Nvidia RAID 0
2 x Seagate Cheetah .8 series 250 GB ('SATA II') on SATA 5&6 set up as SiI RAID 0
This mobo uses an Nforce 4 SLI chipset.  I believe the Neo 2 Pt uses an Nforce 3 chipset.
Yes, I am using the latest MSI-sourced drivers with the XP64 installs.
The question is:  has anyone gotten Nforce 4 SLI chipset Nvidia RAID to work with XP64?
