  • Getting NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 to work?

    Hi,
i'm trying to get my video card to work correctly. It seems to be:
NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro GPU
I checked in Xorg's logs and it seems it wants a driver called nvidia-71xx. I checked in the repositories and it doesn't seem to be there. I found a package on the Nvidia site but it asks me to compile a custom kernel or something like that. Anybody knows what's the proper way to make this card works? The Nvidia packages on the site didn't seem to work on it, they are all too new, even the old one.
EDIT: Saw the post about the new package and installed it. I now get a bunch of lines on screen but no image.

As far as I know you would need the 71.XXX series of the driver. Unfortunately nvidia did not update it for use with xorg >1.5.
    Check out this thread:
    http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=122436
There is a small chance that we may add support in the future, but there currently are no plans to do so, as Aaron said.
What do you mean with "and no new 'nv' driver's added"? What das X -configure say which drivers are available?

  • Installing Solaris 8 with a NVIDIA RIVA TNT MODEL 64 video board

I'm trying to find out if anybody knows of any compatible drivers for the NVIDIA RIVA TNT MODEL 64 video board for Solaris 8.
I can install Solaris using 640 x 480 with 16 colours, and that works without any problem, but the installation does not seem to have any compatible drivers.
I've tried contacting NVIDIA but have not received any reply.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Mark,
It appears as if this particular chipset is supported as suggested
    in the Hardware Compatibility List.
The -- in the bus field indicates that this chipset is used on different video devices whether they be motherboard integrated
video cards or dedictaed video cards. (Check the notes at the top
of the video display adapter listings).
The note also explains that there is no guarantee that the same
chipset will work with all video devices; only a selceted number
of devices with this chipset have been tested.
I just located a report where this particular chipset caused exactly the same problem. The TNT2 was integrated into a Microstar 694D motherboard. A full investigation was not carried out as the customer in this case closed the call having used a different card.
As far as I know, the NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 chipset has successfully been
tested on the Diamond Viper V770 and Creative Labs 3D Blaster RIVA TNT2.
Upon bootup what is the BIOS level of the card as reported? Another
engineer has managed to test a card with TNT2 BIOS 2.05.04, 32MB.
I think that webstart problems were avoided by installing directly from the SOftware CD's 1of 2 and 2 of 2 in non graphics mode (opting not to specify video at the kdmconfig screens)

  • NVIDIA 8800gt for Mac Pro (mid 2007 models) not compatible with TIGER !

Just tried to install Tiger on a hard drive while i was successfully able to use the NVIDIA 8800gt in Leopard on another hard drive and the computer would either stall or just have the gray screen come up. Brought it to Tekserve and they said Apple doesn't have firmware for this yet and it won't run on Tiger.. runs flawlessly on Leopard.. anyone have updates on this?

I purchased the 8800 card intending to run it with Tiger. I was assured both by the sales person I spoke with, and the engineer they checked with that it would work under Tiger. I even asked if it came with a driver CD and they said no, but it wasn't needed, it would "just work".
Of course, when I got it and put it in my Mac Pro running 10.4.11, it didn't boot. Then I realized there was a sticker on the box that said it required "10.5.2". I checked the product web page and it did not mention Leopard as a requirement. However, as of Monday April 28th, this was added to the web page. I have a screenshot from two days before which doesn't list it.
Anyway, I've returned the card and will be credited, but I am very disappointed. I can only conclude there was every intention to support tiger (probably with a Tiger Graphics Update 1.0 or some such) but this wasn't ready in time and they hastilty had to slap on the "10.5.2 required" sticker to the boxes.
Hopefully this update will come out at some point, and then I can repurchase the card. (I do not wish to upgrade to Leopard until the finder is fixed.) It would also be nice is there was a 10.4.12 release that supports the new Mac Pro's (hint: you'll get more sales if you do!)
If all else fails maybe ATI will have a new card out in the near future, and hopefully will support Tiger. I think they do a better job on drivers than nvidia anyway.

  • NVIDIA issue on MacBook Pro retina 15 (bootcamp)

    hello guys! merry christmas everybody
i have such problem: i bought MacBook Pro retina 15, when i came home i installed windows 7 thru bootcamp, after that i decided to check how many points of perfomance do i have, (in windows you can see that in computer - system properties) and i was 7.2
my games worked amazing on highest level of perfomance, i didn't see such performance anywhere.
10 days later i decided to play, and when the game started it was so bad, everythings hanged very much!! i decided to see what happend to my system and i saw this
and i can't do anything! i returned my mac to the store where i have bought it and they gave me a new one, but after 10 days the same thing happend to a new one. i don't think that it brokes maybe it's some problem which can be solved? maybe i can change something in stting or via terminal? as i think something wrong with nvidia card, seems like mac doesn't change video cards from intel to nvidia when a hard programm is started
    help me please!!

The Retina models are full of flaws. You have found one of them. For some reason the discrete graphic card is being shut off in Windows and you are now using the built in Intel HD Graphics 4000. Why I have no idea.

  • How To Update NVIDIA Driver In MacBook Pro 2013

Hello, I have A MacBook Pro Retina 2013. As it have a GT 650M 1GB so I nned to update my Driver as its pretty old. But when I go to NVIDIA Driver Website there is no option to download Driver for Mac OS. As I am new to MacBook So I don't know how to do this so Can Anyone help me how to do this?
If possible also send me the Download Link.
    My Macbook Pro Specs:-
    Model- MacBook Pro Retina 2013
    OS- Mac OSX Mountain Lion
    CPU- Intel Core i7 3840QM @3.80GHz
    RAM- 16GB DDR3 1600MHz
    GPU- NVIDIA Geforce GT 650M 1GB GDDR5
    Storage- 768GB SSD Flash Storage
    Thanks......................

    Hi,
I am using my Late 2012 rMBP also in bootcamp with windows 7 64-bit
Often I see a popup from the NVidia Control Panel saying that a new update is available. Most of the time, the update adds new game profiles and such... I only use my Mac for CAD. But sometimes they also fix bugs or improve routines...
I know I am "safe" to ignore these messages.
But is it also "not recommended" (or even "dangerous") to install these updated drivers?
Probably, the included driver in the bootcamp driver pack is tweaked for these MBPs.... but is it?

  • Apps stop working, if Nvidia GT650M on MacBook Pro is active

Several apps like Camtasia and VMs in VMware Fusion 6.0.2 stop working on my MacBook Pro Mid 2012 (9,2) with OS X 10.9.2, if the Nvidia GT650M is active.
If I force the MacBook to use the integrated Intel Graphics (using gfxCardStatus), the apps works without problem.
The issue seems to have occured after upgrading to 10.9.1 (but I am not sure about this). Starting with the upgrade to OS x 10.9, this system info states as if the model would be a MacBook Pro 13" (9,1) - of course I did not shrink the screen ;-)
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks a lot,
    Peter

So the problem only shows itself when you're running Windows within Fusion? That sounds like a Fusion issue. You might want to try Parallels to see if it has the same problem. There's a free trial, so it wouldn't cost. I'm pretty sure you can also convert a Fusion VM as well, though it's been forever since I've done it.

  • Any new Nvidia driver for Macbook pro?

Hey, after I upgrade to new OSX 10.6.x, my software Houdini (www.sidefx.com) viewport flickers every frame. It used to work fine on 10.5.x.
I don't know it's the problem for OSX or Nvidia driver, at least, it worked fine on 10.5.x, so I think it is the new OSX bug.
I use Macbook pro, I tried both 9400m or 9600m can't work. Please fix this.
    Regards.

Ah, I see - Asking here is just asking other users - if you expected an answer/status directly from Apple here, that won't happen, sorry. Perhaps some users have heard on other forums in which case I'm sure you've already searched, etc. Good luck in any case.

  • NVIDIA GeForce on Mac Pro

I have a Mac Pro (early 2009), with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB RAM. I'm finding that sometimes Photoshop CC will load up and function properly, but other times it loads up I am unable to use such functions as "Rotate Canvas." I get an error (also occasionally) that says Photoshop isn't compatible with my display driver. Has anyone heard of this and are their any fixes available?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi kobold_studios,
I have moved this discussion to the Photoshop General forum, where you should be able to get more help on this issue.

  • Nvidia Quadro and Mac pro

Hi guys, i´m thinking to buy a mac pro and i was wondering if there´s or it will be any Quadro on the market that would work with it.
Does anyone know how new Ati radeon works with 3d and in particular with Maya (Open GL oriented)?
    Thanks!!

This won't help, unless you use Windows 64-bit but there are some darn nice 1.8GB VRAM eVGA GTX 275's and such out there, and some 1 and 4GB cards even.
Nvidia has its Quadro CX for off-loading workloads.
Unless they've got something under the table that requires a later system and headed toward the next holy grail of OpenCL and other technology (which is possible), games may not "matter" but games were the impetus for extreme bleeding edge technology.

  • 15" 2011 model Pro Macbook backlight bleed

On my Pro Macbook, which I got in March 2011, 15.4" model, the LED backlight has been bleeding through on the lower corners of my display.
    http://oi49.tinypic.com/huhy4g.jpg
    http://oi48.tinypic.com/30cn8r7.jpg
    Longer arrows mean stronger bleeding.
Should I be worried? (Because I am!) Will the screen "break" if I keep using it and it keeps bleeding through more and more?
Does anyone know if Apple registers this as a defect and for free replacement?

Well that's just great. I canceled my AppleCare, because the last time I had my machine in for service, they wanted $1000 for repairs, and I wasn't about to pay that... so I'm not using AppleCare anymore.
But is this defect a serious thing to worry about? Will the screen "break" if I keep using it like a normal computer?
Also: Because of my work, I don't have time to be without my computer for any more than like 3 days, so I can't keep sending it in for service all the time.

  • Is Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB the same as NVIDIA GeForce in Macbook Pro Retina?

I bought the Macbook Pro with the dedicated graphics card, which should be a NVIDIA but when I look at the system profile it shows Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB, Is this the same thing?

The higher end MacBook Pros have both the Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB, and the NVIDIA GeForce. The Iris pro is integrated into the CPU, and the NVIDIA is a separate graphics card. By default, it will switch between the two graphics cards based on your computer's demands at the moment. It will use the Iris to save power, and the NVIDIA for better performance. The one it is showing you in that About this Mac page is the one it is using at that moment. Open an application like Photoshop, plug in a monitor, or run some graphic intense processes, and then click about this mac, and you will see that it has changed. You can disable this, and make it always use the faster graphics card by going into System Preferences > Energy Saver and then uncheck automatic graphics switching. This will use more power, though, and the performance increase will be minimal.

  • Accelerating Video Compression w/NVIDIA GTX 285, Mac Pro?

I want to harness the powarrr of the 8 cores and NVIDIA GTX 285 to transcode video to and from various formats. But I don't see OpenCL support listed for Final Cut 7's Compressor. I don't see any mention that Adobe Media Encoder CS4 is accelerated by such GPUs. I'm trying out Toast right now and it's using less than two cores, and going kinda slow (not booted into Snow Leopard at the moment tho).
So the question is, how can I take advantage of the extra power of the GTX 285 for encoding? I know that Qmaster and Compressor will take advantage of the extra cores... but I want to use the FULL power of this battlestation.
    Thanks for any tips
