Nvidia Setup

Hi All,
new here and to Solaris10. I am ok with Linux, though. I'm trying to get a NVidia card to work. I have run the driver file from NVidia's site, but, I don't seem to have a xorg.conf file in /etc/x11 or xorgconf in /usr/X11/bin. What are my options here.? I've never played around with Xorg in Linux either. Cheers.
coolboarderguy...

1. Download the NVidia driver from nvidia.com
2. untar it I used gunzip -d <> && tar zxvf <>
3. run the installer
4. run /usr/X11/bin/scanpci
I got
pci bus 0x0001 cardnum 0x00 function 0x00: vendor 0x10de device 0x0179
nVidia Corporation NV17 [GeForce4 420 Go 32M]
5. I added this to the /etc/driver_aliases file on the last line
nvidia "pci10de,179"
6. Copy the xorg.conf.nvidia to xorg.conf ; both are in /etc
6. open xorg.conf and make sure ther is a line called
Driver "nvidia"
7. reboot -- -r
8. reboot again
9. You should be good to go.

  • [SOLVED]Dualscreen Nvidia Setup

    Hi Guys
Just finished installing Arch (Cinnamon). Everything went smooth, even the dedicated soundcard worked without any special drivers.
However it seems like my graphiccard has some problems (GTX 560 Ti). I installed the package nvidia through pacman and both monitors work. The problem is that my left monitor (on my desk) is the right one in the nvidia settings. If I delete /etc/X11/xorg.conf, then configure everything correct through nvidia-settings and then save the new config file (checked the file. Settings get saved correct) and then reboot it reverts back to the wrong setting. Is it possible that the settings provided in /etc/X11/xorg.conf are not actually used? I don't have any other config file (atleast that i know of...).
    Here's my config file:

    Thanks in Advance

    Hi,
    it would help if you
Added the word [SOLVED] in front of the title of this thread, so that folks know that the issue has been solved, and
Post your new xorg.conf, so that others can see how you fixed your issue.

  • NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT driver for Vista x64

    Hello,
I have an issue with my new MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz 17" that was released on the 5th of June, 2007.
It has NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT installed on it and I simply cannot find Vista 64 bit drivers for it.
I have tried the latest beta Vista x64 drivers (163.11) downloaded from nVidia's official website. I have tried several previous versions including 100.97 one, which contains drivers for 8600M GT model. But they don't work with me. All the driver installation programs allert the following error and quit:
'The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit'.
I also tried Vista 32-bit drivers for 8600M GT. The driver installation program claims the operation system is wrong and quits.
    Anybody has the same issue?
Does a working driver of nVidia GeForce 8600M GT for Vista x64 exist at all?
MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz   Windows Vista   nVidia GeForce 8600M GT

There was one Apple's presentstion where they boot into Windows Vista. So if you claim you can do it why do you forget about Vista x64 customers? I reckon it is because of Leopard that is coming. But it's not an excuse.
I'm currently working in Vista x64 and everything is fine except one thing, I cannot find a working graphics card driver and it is manufacturer's responsibility to provide it. Apple knew there going to be customers who will install Vista x64 on their computers and they at Apple didn't care about it because I guess it's a lame war between you know who.
So why you don't make everything perfect to attract even more Windows customers but instead you hint that you don't care about Vista x64 as you are getting your own 64-bit OS soon. So now they are forcing me to wait having been announced that I can use Vista. But isn't that kind of lame that it's slightly tardy? Why I should wait for Leopard launch if I was insured that Windows will work on my Macbook Pro? Because Apple claim you can run Windows. And don't say it's not official. Who else if not Apple made it possible to run Windows on Mac.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to insult you. I'm just angry that I cannot find a working driver.

  • Satellite P500-12D - Can I use the nVidia drivers?

The Latest NVIDIA Drivers on the Toshiba update website are 8.15.11.8642 but there are newer versions on the NVIDIA website. I would like ot update the NVIDIA Drivers but I am having difficalties.
I tried to install version 195.62 (Win7 64bit) for the Geforce 200M Series fron the NVIDIA SITE but the install doesn't complete. I get the message: "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
Does Toshiba only allow their own versions of the drivers? Is there a way to allow the NVIDIA drivers to istall?

    Hi
Counter question: Why you want to use other display drivers? Are you not satisfied with the Toshiba drivers or can you notice any problems in Windows?
Theoretically its possible to use the drivers from nVidia directly but dont forget that they are not pretested on your notebook. Your graphic card could be overheating and so you will loose the warranty.
Satellite P500 is pretty new so I assume Toshiba will update the display driver in next time too. Just have a look on the page from time to time. ;)

  • How to Setup Nouveau with Two Monitors? ("VGA-1 disconnected")

    Hey Guys,
I have a sweet MythTV setup arranged like this:   tower & flatpanel LCD in office with an old-fashioned CRT TV in the living room.
I am able to run movies/video on the CRT while the kitchen LCD can be used to do other stuff.  (Am I describing two X sessions? A 'dual-monitor' setup?)  I could move the cursor from one screen to the other--but couldn't drag windows from one screen to the other...
I'm using an NVIDIA driver (GeForce 8400 GS card)--but the nvidia stuff can cause problems (one recent upgrade of driver and kernel caused a 99% cpu issue.)
Because of that (and a lot of other problems--it's an old Arch install) I did a clean Arch install today on a separate partition and am hoping to use the Nouveau driver to drive both monitors in the same way I just described.
I've got Nouveau running and the kitchen LCD is fine....  When I turn on the CRT, it's black.
Unfortunately, xrandr says that the living room CRT (the tv) is "disconnected":
    $ xrandr
    Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 8192 x 8192
    DVI-I-1 connected 1280x1024+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 340mm x 270mm
       1280x1024      60.0*+   75.0
       1280x960       60.0
       1280x800       74.9     59.9
       1152x864       75.0
       1280x768       74.9     60.0
       1024x768       75.1     70.1     60.0
       1024x576       60.0
       832x624        74.6
       800x600        72.2     75.0     60.3     56.2
       848x480        60.0
       640x480        72.8     75.0     60.0
       720x400        70.1
VGA-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
I know the cable/connection is fine, because I can boot into the 'old' install and everything still works (with the nvidia driver).
In case it might help, here is the xorg.conf from the 'working' nvidia setup:

Can anyone help me figure out how to get this working with Nouveau?
    Thanks in advance!

By adding the following to the kernel line in the GRUB menu, I was able to get VGA-1 "connected":
    video=VGA-1:e
but that had the side-effect of changing the resolution of DVI-I-1 to that of VGA-1, namely 1024x768.
These sections of the xorg log seem...um...pertinent.

  • IMac Nvidia GeForce 8800 GS Drivers

I am running XP Professional via Boot Camp. I run XP so I can play America's Army since it is a Windows only based game. The problem I am having is when I expand Americas Army full screen it completely locks up my iMac and I have to hold down the power button to reset it.
I have been told by several people that the problem is from the Nvidia GeForce 8800 GS drivers. I tried to up date the graphics drivers from Apple's and Nvidia's website with the latest driver. When I try to install the graphics driver from the setup file, it gives me the following error.
"The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
Here is the location where I downloaded the driver from.
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp175.19whql.html
Here is a link to America's Army on the support forums.
    http://forum.americasarmy.com/viewtopic.php?t=279590
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hey guys,
I encountered problems renaming the nv4 disp file that allen sent me (drivers still would not install)...so instead of replacing the original nv4 disp.inf file in windows, I opened the nv4 disp file allen sent me, copied the text, and pasted it in the original nv4 disp file in the NVIDIA folder after deleting the text of the original file and saved it...after that, the new drivers installed without a hitch...have yet to test whether or not the infinite loop is gone or not in Age of Empires 3 though...will keep u updated...thx for the file allen!

  • Not Able To Install Nvidia Graphics Drivers

    Hello all!
This past week I just finished putting my new system together with a K8N Diamond Plus. Only major problem right now is i am not able to install Nvidia's drivers. Below are my components...
    XP 64-Bit Edition
    MSI K8N Diamond Plus
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
    BFG 7900 GTX 512MB
    1 Gig Coirsar Ram
2 Wester digital HD in Raid 0
When I try and install the graphics drivers i get the message " The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
I used the chip set drivers listed here: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=710&kind=1
Also I have tried the ones from NVIDIA's site: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_winxp64_x16_6.83
The graphics drivers i used are from NVIDIA's site: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp64_81.98.html
BFG Tech support guy had me look under display adapters in device manager. It only has Standard VGA Graphics Adapter listed. He said I did not have my chip set drivers installed (though i have), or the motherboard was not recognizing it. Also he said they do not support XP-64 and would not offer me any more support so long as i run it.
I just can not believe that XP 64, 7900 GTX, and this great K8N Diamond Plus can not get along.
Any advice anyone has for getting my Diamond Plus and my graphics card to jive together would be greatly appricated.
    Thankyou all!!

Thankyou guys for the responses. I was able to find drivers that worked with my card here..
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/index.php?drivers&series=80&os=2&type=1&dir=1
Now my only current issue left is that I have no sound. It is enabled in the BIOS, installed the 64-bit drivers from MSI site, tired installing drivers off disk. Any suggestion?

  • [SOLVED] Refresh rate, nvidia and Quake Live

I need help setting my monitor to 120HZ for 640*480, i have no idea how to do this using xorg.conf or nvidia-settings... nvidia-settings only shows as high as 85hz for this resolution. I'm not gonna be mean and say how simple doing this is in windows(guess i just did) Sorry ^^.
I'm using a ViewSonic E70   17" CRT monitor and a Geforce4 mx420 with the nvidia-96xx proprietary driver from the repos.
I really need 640*480 to get to 120 hz, should be simple enough!
    Thanks!

If you look at the Nvidia docs it says in there somewhere why each monitor has a "unique" refresh rate.  It boils down to X is too stupid to do real dual monitors.  As a result, Nvidia presents to X two "separate" monitors; it differentiates them to X by using different refresh rates...thus you cannot (and should not even try) to set the monitors to use the same refresh rate.
I'd suggest using nvidia-utils or nvidia-setup (not sure of the name but it will autocomplete on the command line if you just type "nvidia-") to set up twinview or separate X sessions or whatever you want.  It's easy to use and will even write an xorg.conf for you.  Failing that, look at randr on the wiki.
i did nvidia-xconfig. and also activated the vsync in nvidia-settings. But no luck. Also when i chose seperate X in nvidia-settings my arch freezes. I am going to do a refresh install.

  • [Solved] Nvidia-ck question

    Hi.
I'm currently running the linux-ck, and nvidia-ck, packages from Graysky's repo.
When I go to update my total system, I get two instances of nvidia to upgrade.
Is there any way to remove the dependencies on the opencl-nvidia package, and just use the nvidia-ck?
    EDIT:
Upgraded around the one package that refuse to uninstall, re-logged in, and successfully uninstalled said package.

    Apologies...
What I originally had going was the default Arch kernel, and the non-free Nvidia drivers installed. I did some reading on the BF scheduler, and decide your prebuilt kernel, headers, and nvidia packages would be the most optimal. My PC is too old to compile a kernel every update...
When I was comfortable with the results, I uninstalled the linux, and linux-headers. If I tried to uninstall the opncl-nvidia package, all of my nvidia dependant packages prevented it, and this was despite myself already running your ck kernel+nvidia setup.
I'm not sure why, but after I manually upgraded all the packages shown by 'pacman -Syu' with the exception of opencl-nvidia, I was then able to uninstall it just fine after a logout/login.

  • Unable to install latest Nvidia drivers. (GT72)

I just got my GT72 in the mail and now I'm about setting it up.
When I tried installing the latest Nvidia drivers (340.52-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql.exe)
and the setup failed with an error that it can't find any compatible graphic adapter.
The Nvidia drivers that was running on the GT72 was 333.something, I don't remember.
I tried uninstalling this driver that I had just the "Microsoft basic VGA adapter", but the Nvidia Setup is still not working.
And yes, I was making sure that I switched the graphics to NVIDIA before installing the driver.
    Any suggestions?

Follow these steps to do s fresh clean installation of any version of nvidia drivers:-
Press "Windows Key" + "R" together and type %temp% then press "Ok".
In that new window, press “Ctrl” + “A” together to select all the files and folders
Then press “Shift” + “Delete” to remove them. (leave few files which you are not able to delete)
Try "Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) " to completely uninstall AMD/NVIDIA graphics card drivers and packages from your system, without leaving leftovers behind (including registry keys, folders and files, driver store) :
    http://www.wagnardmobile.com/DDU/
    1. Better to create a "system restore" point before using it.
    2. You do NOT need to uninstall "NVIDIA Graphics" drivers before using DDU
    3. Open the link and click on "Download" button. It will open another page, select the topmost "Download" button for the latest version.
    4. Then run : "DisplayDriverUninstaller.exe" file
    5. It will give you a notice to create "Restore Point", so better to create one ( if not created earlier ).
    6. Click "No" when it asks "Reboot in safe mode now ?"
    7. Select Nvidia from the dropdown menu on the top, Select all the 5 checkboxes there. Then click on "Clean and Restart" button.
    8. try "Perform Clean Installation" while installing the latest driver

  • Can't Update nVidia Drivers

I have the latest version of the 24" iMac with the nVidia GT 130. I can't seem to upgrade the drivers though under Windows Vista after booting with BootCamp. With my old Mac Pro I could easily install updated drivers, but now when I run the update I get an error stating that "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit." I've double checked under Device Manager and I do indeed have nVidia GT 130 listed.
Any ideas why I can't upgrade the drivers?
UPDATE: On a whim I tried installing the notebook drivers and that worked. I was under the impression that the GT 130 wasn't a notebook card, but I guess I was wrong.

iMacs do not have actual video cards. They have mobile versions of the GPUs integrated onto the motherboard. I suspect that's the reason for what you see.

  • Nvidia Ion Display Driver issues for S12

    I downloaded the Nvidia drivers
    195.62_notebook_winvista_win7_32bit_international_whql
    and
    195.81_notebook_winvista_win7_32bit_international_beta
I tried installing the 195.81 first, but it didnt work so i tried 195.62 but it also didnt work.
    The error message says this:
"The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware.  Setup will now exit".
I have a Lenovo Ideapad S12 with Ion.  What is the problem?  I was able to install Nvidia's 191 version of the driver, but these updated ones don't work.
    Help me...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you do a search, you'll find several threads on these forums regarding this issue.
For some reason, as you've found, the current nVidia reference GPU drivers don't work.
Now, thankyou for testing the 195.81 beta drivers - nVidia support actually suggested these as a fix to the issue!
They also suggested trying to install the drivers (either set) from within Safe Mode. You may wish to try that.
However, as has already been stated, the S12 works ok with the shipped drivers.
I recommend installing the nVidia reference chipset driver (I found a marked improvement in performance with them installed) - BUT, only install the SMU component - I found the Storage component causes issues (upto and including a Blue Screen when running a HDD benchmark).
Also, apparently, the desktop GPU drivers from nVidia will work fine.

  • Drivers for NVIDIA Geforce 320m (Windows 7).

I've got my new MBP 13", but i don't have a cd with the bootcamp drivers for the video card, because I've lost my recovery DVD. So i'm seeking help with that. I wonder where can i get these drivers, because NVIDIA ones, even beta, not supporting this chip yet. Maybe i can get a recovery dvd iso or dmg somehow. I've got bootcamp 3.0 and 3.1 update installed on my windows machine, but still no luck, because the 3.1 version is dated mid january and my MBP is mid 2010.

Somewhat related, my 13" MacBook Pro with BootCamped XP freezes when I open up BootCamp from the control panel and move the brightness slider/window around. To fix this, I'm trying to install the newest NVidia drivers.
With a NVIDIA GeForce 320M display card installed, trying to install the newest NVidia drivers on XP, I continuously get an error say "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
One way to solve this, as suggested by someone on another forum, was to install the drivers manually, and at the 99%~100% during installation, when it shows the error message "Your installation cannot continue, will revert back to your old display drivers when you click OK" at which point I don't press OK, but immediately hold the power button down for 5 seconds, after I re-boot, my new drivers work fine.
    Except,
I can't control brightness from the control panel's bootcamp slider, nor keyboard shortcuts, it's continuously 100% brightness.
I've been working on this problem for 2 days, and I can't yet properly install the new NVidia drivers into XP. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • T61 Nvidia display driver unattented install error 2147213312

    Hi,
I just downloaded latest Nvidia driver for T61.
But how when i try to install it unattented remotelly to other pc from commant line i get error 2147213312.
Older driver version work ok without errors when installing this way.
Why i must install drivers this way is i use Altiris deployment solution to install drivers to new pcs.
i found solution to this but this must be done by Lenovo driver specialist.
DoInstall Fails to Launch Setup in Silent Mode Description: If you use DoInstall with the "-s" command line parameter to launch a child setup in silent mode, it fails with error code -2147213312. However launching the child setup in normal mode with empty command line string works as expected. Workarounds: Remove all dialogs and user interface from the child setup, or use LaunchAppAndWait to run the child setup. Status: InstallShield confirmed that this is a bug in IS 6.03.
FIXED in IS 6.10. http://www.installsite.org/pages/en/bugs_is60.htm any one know other solutions to install this driver unattented?

    Found solution to this myself.
Seems that latest nvidia driver version is made different version of installshield.
Laters driver wont install if you are trying to install it fron network path like \\server\drivers\nvidia\setup.exe -n -s
You must make script that first copy files to local disk and then install it from there like this:
    XCOPY /S /Y "\\server\drivers\nvidia\*.*" c:\drivers\nvidia\
    c:\drivers\nvidia\setup.exe -n -s
i hope this helps someone else who is using altiris or similar.
