NW6.0 SP5 NFA - CIFS...

Hmmm.... a blast from the very distant past I'm afraid...
Does anyone have any recollections of the stability of CIFS under NW6.0 SP5?
For my sins I am involved in a migration project and one of the co-existence strategies we are looking at is enabling CIFS.... The client has both cluster and standalone servers, and we'd be looking to use domain authentication
So, any thoughts on server and/or cluster resource enabling volumes with cifs would be recommended
Many thanks!
David

With the latest and last NSS/CIFS updates for 6.0 I'd expect it to be reasonably stable. Scaling is another thing, though.

  • Zenworksd Database Corrupt

A while back I had a problem with the Zenworks database starting on a NW6
SP5 server running Zen 6.5 SP2. I was told to copy the database off to a
PC and then back to the sever. This worked great and I was able to
restart the database and continue on. Since then I have had this happen
twice more on the same server. Completing the above process appears to
fix the problem but it continues to come back. Yesterday I had the same
problem on another server. I might add that these server are at
different schools and have no phyicial connection to each other.
How can I resolve this permanetly?
    Thanks,
    Coy

    All,
I followed the TID Shaun listed and copied the Zenworks folder off and
then pasted it back. I when through each database files and right
clicked and checked do not compress. The error occurred again. This
time I went in through NRM and set the Don't Compress setting for each
files including the NAL.DB file. In the 2 days since I did that I
haven't received a database corruption error.
I am not sure if I am doing this correctly, is there another place to set
    do not compress?
    Thanks for your help,

  • Error when restarting server

    Hi all,
    We are using NW6 SP5.
Lately, every time I restart the server, it start with an error page
    roughly as follows:
Concurrent set model. Access to the server is limited to 10000 concurrent
    seats
attempting to allocate cache of 32770k. 32768k of memory used for caching.

I have to hit any key then it will start to load the modules.Somebody
advised me that this is not crucial. But, it is annoying as I can't restart
remotely and has to be physically in front of the server.
    Thanks for helping

  • Inventory Control of new houses (construction and sale)

    Colleagues,
Need  information about controlling inventory of new homes, the business process is from the construction and sale, but using the traditional solution of SAP ECC 6.0, not  EC&O
    Thanks

it sounds like you have a slow database server, or one that is sending the
data over a WAN link. When you deleted the database, it had to recover all
the information in the STR files. Normally, delta scans are done every day
or so to see if anyting has changed, and then a full scan every five days.
I would bump this up to 20 since usually there very few workstations that
    will need a full scan.
For you boss, I would suggest that you nicely inform him that the inventory
pulled by ZfD is at least 80% accurate but never 100%. If you have a
workstation that is not being scanned, registered, imported, etc.. you are
likely to miss it. How do you account for the WS Removal policy which will
pull out inventory when the machine is not registered for "x" days. If
anything, use the ZfD inventory as a backup for internal components only.

  • Shell access required for RADIUS authentication?

    Hello all,
A customer of mine has a fleet of modern Mac laptops, all accessing 3 AFP file servers. Access to those file servers is governed by a Snow Leopard Open Directory Master. Pretty simple.
I’ve been tasked with introducing RADIUS authentication to the WLAN there. The WAPs are all Airport Extremes, so again the setup is pretty simple.
But in testing, I see that users can authenticate to the RADIUS WLAN only if I give those user accounts shell access in Open Directory. If a user’s account has a login shell set to None (our previous default), then any RADIUS authentication attempt produces the following log error:
Auth: [unix] [USERNAME]: invalid shell [/dev/null]
If I switch that user’s login shell to (for example) /bin/bash, then restart RADIUS, that user authenticates successfully thereafter.
Is this expected behavior? Is there an alternative to giving everyone shell access?
    Thanks for any info,

  • No Import/Removal policy found

I have a server that is reporting that there is no import or Removal
    policy found.
The server was importing workstation even after the a tree merge but now
    it is not.
There is a server policy for this but for some reason it is now not seeing
    it.
    Server is NW6 SP5 with ZfD 4.01b/IR6.
Any ideas to troubleshoot this problem is greatly appreciated.

Apparently, this issue was caused by the tree merge.
I needed to edit the zenwsimp.ncf and the zenwsrem.ncf files and edit the
    tree name.
I am still having an issue with the ZEN WOL service but I have not found
the file that needs to be editted for this to work properly.

  • Problem with old image

    Hi,
We are trying to use an image that hasn't been used in some time and
when I try, (i have used pxe and a boot disk with the same results) It
will either get a "no work to do" error or it will come up with the blue
screen where you usually see the progress bar and immediately go to
operation complete. Do I assume that something happened with this image
and we will have to rebuild it or is there some other reason for this.

I would think that either your hardware detection rules don't work anymore
or that for whatever reason the image save data is not correct anymore..
if you run the imgserv with -debug on the server it will create a log file
which you could give you an idea what really happens.

  • CIFS to transfer files between NW 6.0 SP5 and Windows 2008

I have an old server that is moving to Windows SBS 2008. I was trying to use CIFS to get the files over. I am not having much luck. I am able to get CIFS to work from a XP PC by going to the shared name and opening the directories.
I have tried to reset the NTLM security but it is grayed out. I am a Domain admin. I should be able to edit these policies.
I get a prompt to login but the login is the same as the login for the Windows 2008 server. I thought it would just open. They are on the same workgroup /domain. I tried it a couple times and it couldn't log me in.
My iManager is not working at the moment. I forgot how to get it started. I configured everything through ConsoleOne.
Or do you have any other ideas on how to transfer the data quickly?
    Thanks,

  • Recommendation for Backup of Virtualized NW6.0-SP5-Servers

    Hi,
at time we are learning to fly with ESX and will be moving the first Netware-Server for evaluation and tests in a few days.
At time we backup with BackupExec 9.1 right to tape, but my guess is that this will not work on ESX any longer.
As we do not only want to rely on ESX-Snapshots etc.. We still want a file-based backup-solution with tapes to be stored offsite, which also works with the also - but much later - coming OES--Migration.
    What solution can you recommend?
    Sincerely
    Karl

    Hi Anders,
to continue use of BE 9.1 would be great, but I doubt, that
I might get a virtualized BE-Media-Server to work with an
LTO2-Tape-Drive, even on ESX. The use of the
BE-Remote-Agents would help with some of the servers, but
that still leaves me at a point, where BE has to put the
data on tape. Is this something which can be done
virtualized or only with a physical machine? Or shall BE
backup to disk and those backup-files can be put to tape by
ESX? There is quite a bunch of documentation at
www.vmware.com about how bright and shiny everything will
be, but I did not get those questions answered yet.

  • CIFS authentication process, for a novice "windows" guy

i have a virtual network configured with a server2003AD, a NW6.5.8 server with CIFS and an xp pro sp3 with no novell client on it. The XP authenticates to the AD. The CIFS is configured to use the AD domain controller to authenticate.
Am i to understand that there still needs to be a user in eDir of the same AD name to authenticate to the CIFS share? i have created one, but to get any connection i gave it admin rights to the nw server. I was under the impression, perhaps mistakenly, that by configuring CIFS to use the AD server, that as long as a user workstation was authenticated to the AD, the NW CIFS would check the AD for credentials and serve the share, no questions asked, without a user in eDir.
I managed to get a mapped drive with my edir user name and password, however it isn't allowing access to the share. Have i missed a big boat here? Any direction would be appreciated.

It seems that an eDir user with the same AD password is required for transparent login to the shares. Trustee rights need to be assigned to the users from whatever container they are in to access the shares. But it seems like its working. In my circumstances, i will be migrating 50 users to AD and pulling the client completely off novell gradually, so i was trying to establish that users could connect novell-clientlessly from an AD server to a netware file server until it gets mothballed and a win server goes in. Therefore, all 50 users are still in eDir, i just have to create an AD tree with matching passwords. Now my next concern is trying to re-map the cifs-based folders from the windows login scripts...
