NWBC - new tab instead of window

Hi,
I know this question was discussed some days ago, but I come from a different angle. Not programming anything, just working using standard transaction. Of course when you come from the index page, the NWBC nicely opens a new tab for every transaction you start. But on the next tab you have the standard SAP GUI icons, also the one which opens a new session - and this one opens a new window, not a new tab. Is there any way to force the NWBC to open a new tab instead? Even more, I have a transaction (/SCWM/MON), where we use hotspots, so you can drill down for example to documents. There is a user parameter to control if the details are shown in a new window or the existing window. If I select new window, I also want to have a new tab instead.
I have checked the personalization settings, but found nothing there. Using NWBC Desktop Version 4.0

Hi Juergen,
I have bad and good news.
The bad news is that the SAP GUI integration for NWBC 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 exactly ends at the new session button. It is not only a new window, ... no it is a new external SAP GUI window in a different process (not the NWBC process). It is not planned to implement a solution for that within NWBC 4.0 and SAP GUI 7.30, because this is something more complex and should not be part of a patch. The new session button is an internal function of SAP GUI with its own logic, so that both products have to implement a logic together.
At the end the answer is that there is no setting which allow you to create a new session (triggered via SAP GUI button)  in a new tab.
The good news is, that exactly this is planned for the next major releases of both involved products (NWBC and SAP GUI). We are currently working on a more smooth integration of SAP GUI into NWBC which closes all of these open gaps especially the "create new session" function.
I hope this will answer your question allthough there is no real solution at the moment.
Best Regards,
Thomas

  • Why Are Pages Opening in New Tabs Instead of Within the Pages?

Up until I upgraded to 10.1.10, tabs would almost always open in the same page as the link that contained it. If I wanted it to open in a new tab, or window, I can do that myself, using a menu. Now, it opens many more tabs than I need open, and only clutters up the screen, & adds more RAM usage to the already lumbering browser. Why is this happening, and is there any way to correct this?

No, cause it happens on many sites. I don't see what makes it do that for most, but then once in a while, it will open over the current page, like it almost always did before. I know it does this when I click a link from any Google search results page, which I don't recall it doing before. Up till now (5.1.10), there was always a preference setting where I could select links opening in new tabs, or not. Now, they open wherever they choose to, usually in new tabs, but sometimes not....
    Here's my options:
"Open pages in tabs instead of windows:
Some links on webpages open in new Safari windows instead of replacing the current webpage. Choose Never to have such links open in new Safari windows instead of tabs. Choose Always to open new tabs instead of windows.
Choose Automatically to have Safari open pages in tabs unless they’re designed to fit in specially formatted separate windows; Safari opens those pages in windows instead."
So, none of these choices allow for pages to replace current webpages, which makes no sense.

  • I would like to open links in a new window but cannot find where to put the setting. Have unchecked the "Open new windows in new tab instead" box in the Options dialog box.

When I click a link on a webpage or other software, I would like for it to open in a completely new window.

You can hold the Shift key and click the left mouse button a link to open that link in a new window.
The setting in Tools > Options > Tabs is only for links that specify a target window and you can divert such a link to a new tab instead.

  • How do I Safari to open a new file in a new tab instead of a new window?

I've been experimenting with Safari recently. One of my primary uses of a browser is to run an application -- yes, run an application -- known as TiddlyWiki. TiddlyWiki is described as "a reusable non-linear personal web notebook," but it is actually much more. Being a non-techie user it's hard for me to describe what it is, and I couldn't begin to describe the many different ways people have put it to use.
If you're not familiar with it and are curious, this is the place to start:
http://www.tiddlywiki.com/ You can learn more about it here: http://tiddlywiki.org/wiki/Main_Page And though it's a bit dated now, you can see examples of some of the things people have done with it here: http://giffmex.tiddlyspot.com/
All that by way of an unfortunately but necessarily complicated lead-in to my question. I usually have several TiddlyWikis running in my browser at once. With Firefox all were accessible by tabs from within a single window. Unfortunately, it appears Safari won't let me do this. It opens each new instance in a separate window, so that all the others are hidden behind the one in the current window. Not very convenient.
So, my simple question: If you have the faintest idea what I'm talking about, is there any way I can force Safari to open each instance of TiddlyWiki under a new tab in the same window?
I appreciate Safari's speed, and the relative cleanliness of its interface. However, and perhaps this is just being stuck in my ways from Firefox, I really don't like the way it handles tabs. I'd like to have the open of telling it to open each new link, application, whatever, in a new tab in the same window.
I have a suspicion I'm not going to get what I want, but I thought I would give it a try and see. Thanks for putting up with my long-winded vaguery, and if you should have any suggestions, thanks for them, too.
    Sincerely,
    Eric Weir

I misunderstood. You want Safari to open files on your hard drive in tabs in your already open Safari window.
For simplicity, let's assume all the local files are located on your Desktop, and that your home folder is named Eric. Let's assume one of the local files is called foo.html.
Then you should be able to type in the URL
    file:///Users/Eric/Desktop/foo.html
and the file should load. Click the + sign and add that URL as a bookmark on your Bookmarks Bar. Then you should be able to command-click that bookmark to open the file in a new tab instead of a new window. You could then do the same for all the local files, and then put all the bookmarks in a folder on your Bookmarks Bar.
Neat. It never would've occurred to me. I'll check it out.
    Sincerely,
    Eric Weir
P.S. Again, the thread got designated as "solved" before I had a chance to give you credit for being helpful, which I had intended to do.

  • How do I get Firefox to open in a new tab (instead of a new window) when I click on one of my buttons in my toolbar?

When I click on one of my buttons in the toolbar, Firefox opens that button in a new window. I would like to be able to click on one of my buttons and Firefox open it in a new tab instead.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== When I attempt to click on a button

Right click the FireFox button in your toolbar and look in the properties- middle tab...make sure that it only has "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" with no other link added to the end. I had a similar problem this morning and found a website had attached it's link to the end so it would always pop up first and would only open a new tab.
    Hope that fixed it.

  • How can I force a popup to open in a new tab instead of opening a new window?

I want to keep any links that I click from opening a new window, ie. if I click on a link in an open tab that opens a new window, I want it to open in a new tab instead. I am on Firefox 5.0.

You can look at the browser.link.open_newwindow prefs on the about:config page.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction (0)
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.link.open_newwindow (3)
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

  • Some programs open new window instead of new tab in open window

Firefox 17.0.1. I have the option "Open new windows in a new tab instead" set, I use the Tree Style Tab 0.14.2012111201 addon (and others unrelated to tabs or windows), and I have multiple profiles. It seems that since I started using multiple profiles some programs (MediaMonkey's help, for example) insist on opening a new Firefox window. If I select any of the one or more currently open profiles it says "Profile in use". Some programs that want to open an internet site to show their help files do open a tab in the current browser window, as expected and desired. But more programs cause the Choose a profile box to display.

Make sure that you do not start Firefox with the -no-remote switch or have set the environment variable MOZ_NO_REMOTE=1 (Control Panel > System > Advanced > Environment variables).
If you need to have more than one profile open at the same time then start subsequent instances with the -no-remote command line switch.<br />
You can not send links from other programs to a Firefox instance that is started with the -no-remote switch.
In such a case you need to drag links in a Firefox window or paste the link in the location bar.

  • How do I ensure that Firefox will ALWAYS open a new tab instead of a new window?

My prefs are set to “open new windows in a new tab instead” of a new window but exporting a page from another application always opens the page in a new window instead of a new tab. This is particularly unproductive when building and comparing multiple web pages.

Thank you again Silkphoenix and cor-el for a fast and simple workaround. I was in full vertigo mode on the developers page, and couldn't find anything that I could figure out how to adapt on the command line page, so “tab tag” will do nicely until something else comes along.
You are very welcome, Silkphoenix, but don't be so sure that a name has to have anything at all to do with the nature of a business. I made a nice living as a B2B ad agency for huge concrete producers and military contractors while doing business as “Churchmouse”. I foolishly changed my d/b/a after the emcee choked on the name when I was about to address a marketing group of 25 $50M businesses in Toronto--completely forgetting that I already had the account! All worked out well with the new, more professionally evocative name, but I wish that I had kept the old name too. So go get yours now! But also be aware that someone who trademarks and uses the name after you can possibly take your domain away from you through an agency called WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) in Switzerland. I'm not an attorney, so this is just business advice: WIPO is a good organization that provides a much needed and very valuable service, but it can sometimes hurt, so USE the name that you buy as a domain...

  • Links that force new windows - new tabs instead?

Hi, I know Apple doesn't really go to this forum, but I didn't really see any sort of "Safari Feedback" page. (I only saw the Report a Bug to Apple thing)
I know that by default, most links will open in the current tab you are using if you click on them, or open in a NEW tab if you Command-Click or Middle Mouse click. Ok, cool.
Plus there is a setting in Safari in which links from Applications open in new tabs if you wish. This is cool, I like that.
However, there are SOME links in pages, where their default setting is to NOT open in the current window/tab, but instead open in a whole new window. Now this is cool and all, as the web designer probably has a reason for keeping the current window accessible, and creating the new window as an alternate. This is cool and all, however I would like these instances to be created in a new TAB instead of a new window. I know Firefox has this option where links which normally create new windows create new tabs instead.
Is there some setting in Safari I am missing? (normally I am pretty thorough) If not, is there a location in which I can suggest this feature for an upcoming release of Safari? Thanks!
(other than that, I am loving my switch to the Mac, as well as the switch to Safari!)

    Hi,
You can provide feedback to Apple here.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
In your case click Snow Leopard.
    Carolyn.

  • Why won't the Tabs function work (Open new window in a new tab instead)??

My current problem is- - I'm running FF.32, and when I click on a link (in an email, article, webpage link... anything) it opens in the Current window... it doesn't open a new* window, or new tab (as selected)... it "closes" the current page and opens the clicked-on link or email... Unless* I right-click on it and Tell it to open in a new tab instead (but I have to right-click and tell it to do this). I don't think this is normal. What do I need to change..?

I think it is Firefox's default setting to open links in the current tab unless the site forces the link to open in a new window, or you explicitly open the link in a new tab/window.
You may need an extension like [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/ Tab Mix Plus] to open links like how you want.

  • Firefox won't save my setting for 'Open new window in a new tab instead' when I close Firefox.

When I am doing my internet banking I need to have the setting option for 'Open new window in a new Tab instead' Un-checked (disabled). Problem is this setting is not being saved the next time I open Firefox. That is every time I close Firefox (all open window and tabs), the next time I open it up again, this setting has re-enabled itself again. I just can't get Firefox to remember this setting for me.

i just went into preferences, deleted what was in the home page, and entered a new home page address which solved the problem,

  • Under options/tabs: open new windows in a new tab instead does not work. many sites open their popups or new windows NOT in a tab as it should. How to solve this, has been a problem in the last versions incl. the latest.

i would like the option ´open new window in new tab instead´ working properly so no new windows will be opened except when I command them to..
as said, many websites have popups (most are blocked, still some come through) who open in a new window.

Type '''about:config''' in the Location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key. When you see a warning, click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''' button.
    * Preferences that have been modified are shown as '''bold (user set)'''.
    * Preferences can be '''Reset to the default''' or changed via the right-click context menu.
-> In the '''Filter bar''' type '''browser.link.open_newwindow'''
    * Right click the preference '''browser.link.open_newwindow''' and click '''Modify'''
    * change the value to '''3'''
    * click OK
-> In the '''Filter bar''' type '''browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction'''
    * Right click the preference '''browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction''' and click '''Modify'''
    * change the value to '''0''' (zero)
    * click OK
-> Close the '''about:config''' tab and then Restart Firefox.
Check and tell if its working.

  • Unable to open link in new tab in same window; opens new window instead. Preference is checked correctly. Is this new to version 3.6.11?

Before I updated to the latest of Firefox 3.6.11, I would click on a link in the window and it would open a new tab in the same window. Now whenever I do the same thing and entirely new window is opened. In preferences "Open new windows in a new tab instead" is checked. I'm using a Mac OS 10.4.11. Should I downgrade to an earlier version to solve this problem?

After clicking the preference on, off, then on again, the tabs feature has returned to normal upon a restart.

    Hi
I am using Windows 7 on my desktop and today my Firefox browser opens links from emails in a new browser instead of a new tab.
I do have "open new windows in a new tab instead" , under tools; options, Tabs ticked.
I have tried unticking it and then re-ticking it but neither make any difference.
    Hope you can help!

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
