NWDI in MII 12.2

Hi,
In the past, I have configured NWDI for MII 12.1 system and used NWDS for deploying the code to production system.
For 12.2 version, I see some SAP document says there is an enhancement to MII transport mechanism using NWDI.
Can anybody explain what are all those enhancement?
Thanks
Mahesh

Hi Mahesh,
You may also want to check with your Ramp Up Coach for more information.  Since 12.2 is still in Ramp up, the documentation may not have been fully updated with the new features.

Mike

  • NWDI Integration to MII sca files

    Hi,
Iam trying to integrate NWDI with existing MII. Iam using MII 12.1.8 version.
    I have downloaded MII_BUILDT.sca SP08, and XMII.sca SP08 patches from servive marketplace.
Where can I get the SAP_BUILDT.sca file. Also for integration where should all these 3 sca files to be placed(i mean which path).
    Please advice.
    Thanks,
    Padma

    Hi Manoj,
Thanks for the path to find the sca file.
But now I am confused which SP version of this file has to be downloaded whether I need to take MII SP version or NW SP version?
According to MII project building and deploying it says this path \usr\sap\trans\EPS\in\CMS<server><sid>\CMS\inbox  for deploying these files is this is correct?
Also one more thing while configuring Integration of MII with Existing NWDI in MII nwa I closed the browser directly , now I see  start , resume , re-execute all three buttons are disabled. how can I start or re-execute .
    Any help would be appriciated
    Thanks,

  • General MII environment questions

    Hi,
We are just starting a project to implement MII.  We have an MII consultant on site who has stated that in addition to the stock MII install, we need an additional database at each plant for locally caching production orders, purchase orders, inventories (raw, wip, f/g, packaging & ingredients) and other support type data (storage locations, material masters, tolerance, item-pack mapping codes, etc.) in support of the continuous operation requirement.
Are additional databases a common requirement?
If so, is dba level access for developers a requirement?  Please keep in mind, they would potentially also want the same access for the production system.
If dba access is not required, couldn't we just add a tablespace (we're using Oracle)?
    What is a typical configuration?
The consultant is not familiar with NWDI.  His recommendation is to move directories from development environments to production.
Are most MII customers using NWDI including the Change Management Service?  If not, how are they controlling and coordinating changes?
It was my impression that some of the data was stored in files and some of the data is stored in the database.  Is that incorrect?
Can changes be safely migrated from development to production by copying directories?
    Best regards,
    Russ

    Hi Russ,
    I support Mike's comments.
At one time all the MII application "articles" were text based and accessible via Windows Explorer.  Now with 12.0+ releases, everything exists in the DB as you are aware.  I'm not aware of anyone/customer/partner actually using NWDI with MII.  When things were file based, it made it a bit more easy to integrate with some flavor of source control.  But, even then, most projects did not use such tools for several reasons (albeit not necessarily good reasons).  Many projects are small enough in scope that one person is working on code at a time.  So the need for source control to prevent code contamination was not there.  It would be helpful for promotions or transports from dev->tst-prd though.  But, again, many projects used a possibly archaic method (ie, Excel) to keep track of what files and version of those files were where.  At best, when things were file based, source control was used as a nightly backup of files.  I could rattle off a number of multi-site, large enterprises that use Excel as their MII SVN tool.  Again, it may not be best, but it is a common observation.
Today, yes, MII does work with NWDI.  Is it the ultimate in source control/software configuration management?  Probably not.  Last year in Nashville for the SAP AMS conference, I gave a presentation on Software Configuration Management (SVN being a part of SCM) and MII.  I gave some recommendations for incorporating SCM into the MII world.  There are different options depending on your version of MII.  But, for some combinations of MII and components of SCM, I was not able to provide a solution.
I'm hoping to find a really, really good solution for complete SCM compliance in the MII architecture at some point, but I'm haven't yet.
Regarding local DBs.  Yes, if the requirement is limited sustainability or local survivability, then, yes, you will need a DB at each plant (at least one).  As far as authorizations for your consultant - well it depends on how much you want them to do on the DB side.  If you don't grant permissions, someone who has permissions will need to write the queries and stored procedures, obviously.  That's really your call.
Good luck with your MII endeavors.

  • NWDI Configuration Wizard.

I am currently following the steps in the "Configure NWDI in MII" and I am getting an error message in the initial stage of the installation.
I have navigated to http://<server>:<port>/nwa/cfg-wizard and I have clicked on Initial setup of functional unit SLD.
I selected typical configuration and entered my pwds.
I selected Setup a new local SLD server and used my server as the ObjectServerName
It fails after I press Next.  the following is the error...

  • NWDI - use for MII transportation

    Hi MII folks
Regards to the input I found  General MII environment questions , I would really appreciate if any of you has been working with NWDI.
In our project one of the challenge is the MII's transportation process from Dev - QA - Production. One chalenge for example is the ussage of SQL template. The tables or schemes might be different between 2 systems (dev and production), and this means each time when we manually export (from Dev ) and import to proudction, we will have to change these SQL to meet the production's SQL requirement. Other example is the ussage of JCO..which different alias and credential in development and in production.
According to best practice of MII, it is written that it is important to have SAME CONFIGURATION among all systems (in which I do no see ANY customer agree with that).  Will NWDI solve this issue?
    Any comments?

    Mike
This is totally different of what I am trying to ask. My situation is quite technical specifically regarding the transportation of MII from Development to production. Maybe my first message was not clear and I appologize for that.
Let me try again: Our customer have 3 MII systems (One for Development, one for QA and one for Production).
When we develop our project, we are using the development system only. In the development system we connect MII to a SQL server and use the SQL Query. The SQL server works with schemes. There are 2 access to this SQL server; one for Development and one for Production. If you are in Development system, and if you want to use SQL template and write SQL query you write something like this SELECT * from schemeDev.table1. And if youre are in Production you write something like this SELECT * from schemeProd.table1.
You might notice that if you change the SQL code in Development, you need to change this manually in Production system.
Another example is using the JCO action block. This action block requires alias and credential. Normally customers will not create same access in Development and Production systems due to security. In this case if you need to change your transaction in Development and if you import and export to Production system, the transaction will not work unless you manually change the alias and credential.
So I would like to know if one could use NWDI for the transportation of MII from Development system to Production where I could somehow solve this issue.

  • NWDI Support Information for SAP MII

    Hi,
The SAP MII application version 12.1 and beyond has integration with NWDI to manage query templates, display templates, transactions, and web pages. Does anyone know the correct component so the OSS tickets get directed to the right support groups?
Any introduction information / links would help regarding transports as well.
    Thanks,

    Hello Kevin
It is fine to raise a message in MFG-MII, and it will get rerouted to BC-CTS-DI if needed.

  • MII 7.1 and NWDI 7.0 - BUILD_REQUEST_ERROR CBS

    Hi all.
I'm back here with another problem and I'm not able to find a solution for it.
I have my development environment connect with NWDI. I've made all configuration with both systems and they were working fine until the follow problem began.
I can create new project and do some changes in projects already created.
I'm able to check out objects creating activities and check in activating its.
My problem is when I click in "Show Activation Requests" in Source Control menu. I'm getting the error below.
BUILD_REQUEST_ERROR CBS Server Error: The request is not know( internal code: REQ_UNKNOWN).
Have anyone got this error before?
I really appreciate any help. If you need more details, please contact me.

  • NWDI in SAP EHP1 for NW 7.3

    Hi All,
I am new to NWDI concept.
Can any one provide me the step by step process for NWDI in EHP1 for NW 7.3.
I am having the doc for 7.x but this not explains the process correctly.
When I do so it is asking for more configuration.
Please let me know the DOC start from SLD config.
    Regards
    R.Prakash

    Hi All,
Please let me know the steps I followed is right:
    1. http://<host>:50000/sld/ -> Set up the SLD and it started running.
2.http://<host>:50000/sld/fun -> Enabled the "CM services","NWDI using CMS" and NWDI using CM services - recommended","SLD" and "service Registry".
    3. http://<host>:50000/nwa -> configuration->scenarios->Config Wizard
and tried to run the "DI CMS - create application skeleton" but I am getting error as
"Error: unknown exception: Cannot find software component release (Vendor/Name/Release valenet.net/MYCOMPONENTS/1.0) in CMS. UpdateCMS Server or/and check SLD component content.Error: unknown exception: Cannot find software component release (Vendor/Name/Release valenet.net/MYCOMPONENTS/1.0) in CMS. UpdateCMS Server or/and check SLD component content."
same error I am getting when running "Integration of MII with existing NWDI".
I guess the information filled in the create track is wrong. Can any one tell me the step I followed is right and also where can I get the information about the Software Components?

  • Can't create shared project in MII

The MII architect is trying to create a shared project in the Workbench and is receiving an error. It looks to me they have something already checked out and thus cannot create the project. Could this be something wrong in the NWDI/MII configuration. Any suggestions on what I can do to find the cause?

  • MII Development - Quality - Production promotion

    Hi
Does anyone has experience in promotion of MII projects from Development to Production via SAP standard transporation?.
What we currently doing is transfer (export imports) of MII projects from one server to another server (i.e Development server to Test server and then to Production Server). I know there is CTS. Is CTS onyl available for ABAP or also available for MII?
Issues that we face during the transfer (import and exports) are
    - The System connections and Data Servers' names have to be rename to have exact name as in the current system.
    - The SQL code , has to be rename to match for each system. Especially if you work with Schema (writing schema names in the SQL code).
    - This means the development has a lot of dependency for each current systems.
How do you deal with that???
Edited by: Seng Kiang Hoe on Dec 14, 2010 10:32 AM

    Hi,
Your current promotion or transport process is common for MII 12.0 customers. New in 12.1 is the ability to use content management within the workbench for your MII objects. It uses [NWDI|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_mii121/helpdata/en/48/cfd8b4c1d310b4e10000000a421138/content.htm] to do this. You may want to research it further.
The [MII 12.x best practice |http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/f08d7ae2-6f56-2c10-50b4-8a3bb1d43502]guide talks about naming your data servers so that you don't have to change them when you transport. You should look into it and make some changes.

  • MII 12.1 business scenario

    Hi in Master guide stated
To implement the following SAP MII business
scenarios, you must use SAP ECC 6.0 or
    higher:
    - Shop Floor Quality Integration
    - Content Versioning
    - Transactions for BAPI Consumption
    1. Shop Floor Quality Integration (is this means QM module of ECC) - why do I requre ECC 6?
    2. Content Versioning, Netweaver has own content versioning NWDI. Is this what they mean? Why do I need ECC 6?
    3. Transactions for BAPI Consumption - what does is means? Why ECC6?
    thanks
I reviewed this thread  Re: MII 12.1 Questions - BAPI Consumption  , but it does not really clearify my doubt!

The Shop Floor Quality Integration (essentially the QM module) and the Transactions for BAPI Consumption pieces are both exposed in Solution Manager, specifically the Business Process Repository.  If you have Solution Manager with ECC then you can also view the supporting documentation for them, including prerequisites. Again, in the guide it labels that ECC section as optional, which leads me to your last question.
MII "standalone" means MII without ECC. MII does need Netweaver in order to run (as indicated in the guide with the X). Some companies use MII for integrating their shop floor systems with a "one stop shop" view. This can be done without ECC, but MII's flexibility allows for integration to the corporate level. Some shops that are SAP savvy, link with NWDI, ECC, Solution Manager other products. Others use MII as a middleware layer and use other solutions for their front ends.

  • MII 12.1 vs. 12.0

Just got access to 12.1.3 Build(65). Can somebody give some quick insight into the following items -
    i) Home -> System Management -> Transaction Manager
ii) Home -> Security Services -> Credential Editor
iii) Home -> SAP MII Workbench -> Meta-inf
iv)  Home -> Source Control Service -> NWDI Configuration
I don't see the "Home -> System Management -> PDF Actions" and "Home -> System Management -> Applet Debugging" in 12.1.
    Any other major changes?

    Hi Manoj,
Once you have configured your Listener have you checked pressing the update button and i dont want to ask you which version of NW SP you have installed as you said it was working for you with Build 83, but nevertheless NW SP Level should not be not less than SP3.
If this doesn't help you, please try  restarting your server again.
How about the credential editor have you configured this as well?

  • NWDI in the XI Scenario - SLD

    Experts,
I have created a track to transport the XI content.
We have two SLD servers in the landscape. The first is used by XI and contains all the required XI business systems and the second is used only by NWDI and contains only the SC definitions.
    My question-
DOes the SLD for NWDI need XI system details???? According to my understanding, NWDI needs only the component information from the SLD.
Bascially, do i need to import the business system data into the SLD that is being used by NWDI???
    thanks,
    Vineeth

Did a little research and found that the SC information is sufficient for NWDI.
