NWDI Version Level confusion

Hi all,
We will have two Portal landscapes (DEV.QAS and PRD):
1. NW04s SP15
2. NW04s SP09
The NWDI system (currently at NW04s SP09) will support development for both the above landscape/runtime systems.
What version/SP level should the NWDI system be at? Should it be at the latest SP level?
Any insights will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

it will be better if it is at SP09 as per your landscape.
or you can go to higher version i.e. any SP level. but keep the dependencies compatible for SP09
as DI build at lower version can run on higher version WAS.
as downward compatiblity. But a DI build at higher version may not work on lower version WAS

Minimum NWDI SP Level for MSS

Hi All,
I am currently getting 2 broken DCs in the CBS when creating a track for MSS. However, in my previous experiences everything worked fine. I do notice that the NWDI system is a few SP levels below the Portal J2EE SP Level. Thus, after failing to search up concrete causes of error, I am starting to wonder if the low NWDI SP level is the cause of my headaches. I remember that there is a minimum SP level for the portal J2EE, not sure if that applies to the NWDI system.
Is there a minimum NWDI SP Level requirement for MSS SCs? Perhaps there is a note that slipped through my research?
FYI, I am importing MSS 600 SP 12 into NWDI which is SP 12. CIM has been updated and SC Dependencies are synchronized with the SLD. All the required SCs are SP 16 because the portal is at SP16. PCUIGP is SP12 matching MSS.

This are my thoughts:
NWDI SP should not interfere with the CBS build.
New NWDI SP may be more stable or have a new feature, but it does not influence the result of the build.
Only versions of the SCs being built are involved.
Check the logs of the build.
You should be able to see exactly why component is marked as broken.

Please check the NWDI Development Infrastructure 7.11 and SLD 7.11 for the PI 7.1 EHP1.
Go to Service Market Place - Software Download > Support Packages and Patches > Support Packages and Patches - Entry by Application Group > SAP NetWeaver and complementary products > SAP NETWEAVER PI > SAP EHP1 FOR SAP NW PI 7.1 >Entry by Component > Development Infrastructure.

Thanks for your suggestions. I checked to see if the options you suggested were set incorrectly but they were set to sync all. This led me to think the problem was actually in the iphone. I re-initialized the iphone and did not allow the system to restore any of the previous settings. In essence, I forced the phone to reset to factory settings. Then my video podcasts started syncing. All is well now. I did notice that I had seven podcasts selected that were "HD" presentations, and as such, are not compatible with the iphone. I don't know if this had anything to do with my earlier situation, but now I'm getting the video podcasts automatically. I'm happy. It wasn't much fun forcing the iphone to forget all of my preferences and I'm still customizing the phone now several days later. I think I have everything working and back to normal except I haven't identified any of my email accounts as of yet. Thanks for your help.

NWDI version compatibility

Does anyone know if there are any version compatibility constraints developing Java WebDynpro applications on an NWDI (WAS6.40) for deployment on a WAS7.00 instance (e.g. JDK's)?
I've yet to find a general recommendation similar to that seen for SLD (i.e. keep in line with the highest WAS version on the estate) or any clear documentation on version compatibility across WAS stacks with respect to NWDI.
We have a highly complex landscape with multiple component/ product versions, and we'd prefer to have a singel central NWDI instance, but I'm not sure if this is practical and/ or possible.
Any pointers/ documentation/ comments gratefully received

While I can't remember where I've seen it, SAP does recommend that the DI always be kept patched to the latest levels, regardless of what version your landscape (or pieces thereof ) is at.
So, as long as your DI is at patched to at least the same level as your most 'advanced' system, you should not have any problem. You should also match your Developer Studio to the same level as your target system to avoid using any plug-ins that offer features not offered by the eventual runtime system. Yes, the required libraries will be ok (as long as you configure the SLD and the associated track correctly), but the Developer Studio itself needs to be matched up.

NWDI SPS Level

I need to establish any compatibility requirements between the NWDI and the code that it contains/builds. Specifically: do certain software components (in this case, ESS/MSS 1.0 SP 12) specify that they must be built by a corresponding version of the NWDI (in this case, SP 14)?
If so, does this apply only to the CBS build step (and consequently the CMS transport step)? I imagine I should be able to import a business package's source into the DTR and examine it regardless of the SP level of the NWDI being used. Is this correct?

Indeed it's said to be recommended to keep the SP level of NWDI equal to or above the SP level of all other servers in your landscape. But I always wondered why exactly that would be recommended (besides from the general "recommendation" to keep your entire landscape at the highest SP level)... (OK, we do follow this practice too to avoid risks...)
IMHO, the SP level of DTR and CMS are very unlikely to have an impact. DTR doesn't do anything with the source code, e.g. the ESS/MSS SCs. Likewise, CMS doesn't touch the sources or binaries; it keeps some meta-data and does some communication between CBS, DTR and the runtime SDMs. OK, this is probably a bit simplified
Even the SP level of CBS shouldn't (I know...) matter that much. After all, CBS is, again greatly simplified, just a bunch of ant build scripts. It doesn't contain any APIs or binaries that influence, e.g. class paths, the sources being built.
Of course, when defining your track, check-in SCAs of matching SP levels. e.g. SAP_ESS, SAPBUILDT etc. should all be SP12, which also applies to the runtime systems you deploy to.

NWDI Versions

I have read this document: NWDI vs. NWDI content
however, I'm having some doubts about it.
I'm currently on a project at a client trying to bring UCES online with some custom development.
I have 2 issues, this is one of them.
The Java AS is a separate box running Netweaver 7.00.
The NWDI system is on Netweaver 7.4.
I have created a track with 7.00 template and wrote a very simple "Hello World" application with a JSP page and a Java class in the WAR DC.
Everything compiled fine but I got a runtime error on the Java AS box:
class file has wrong version 50.0, should be 48.0
Please remove or make sure it appears in the correct subdirectory of the classpath.
So I'm wondering:
if the CBS of NWDI is on 7.4 and uses SAP JVM 6 to compile the SC, when it goes to the Java AS, which is on 7.00 running JVM 4, isn't there going to be a conflict?
and is there a way to tell CBS to use JVM 4 to compile my 7.00 track?

I have completed the following:
1. installed JDK1.4.2 on the NWDI
2. added key/value pair for JDK1.4.2_HOME in JDK_HOME_PATHS in CBS (left BUILD_TOOL_JDK_HOME blank)
3. added com.sap.jdk.home_path_key=JDK1.4.2_HOME to the default variant
Now I'm getting errors in NWDS when trying to compile:
Error: com.sap.tc.buildplugin.util.BuildPluginException: No JDK_HOME_PATH defined for key 'JDK1.4.2_HOME'
Is there something on the NWDS side I need to set?

The different versions, regions (confused)

Hi all.
I have been checking around some for Web Premium CS4 software on the net and I'm honestly confused about all the different versions.
I am not talking about the pricedifferences here.
Can someone tell me what the different versions are of any given CS4 product and what the difference are between them?
I know the actual software is probably exactly the same but what about support, license etc? If a person buys an US version will he be able to upgrade it later on from his home in Germany?
I've heard that there are two versions, US English and US international. But what is this "UK Version" that people are selling on ebay, is that US International?
I hope you understand what I mean and hope someone can explain this *scratches head*

My only advice to you is buy from a reputable AUTHORIZED dealer. Anything else is a crapshoot and that hold especially true for eBay where a majority of software sold is illegal.

Books, versions and confusion

I'm having some difficulty working with a book which I think is due to some underlying misunderstanding I have about how aperture deals with projects.
I have a book at the top level of the Library which contains images from many different projects.
I'm trying to put a new version of a few images into the book and simply can't make it work sensibly.
If I make a new version in the original project and drag the image into the book it simply doesn't appear.
If I drag the master into the book and then click 'New version from master' I get the stack icon in the image and when I click it it expands a darker grey box around the single image as a stack would be displayed but the other image doesn't appear.
In the end I've just modified the masters as I want to get on but there's something not right and I'd very much like to understand where I've gone wrong.

I wish I could explain this to you in a way that made any sense but I cannot, all I can do is to say..
This has a lot to do with books only being able to display stack picks or album picks. If you wish to modify something do it when you are viewing the book, it will work the same way just bring up the adjustment hud with the H key. Either that or be sure the album you create the book from is done.
I could give you a bunch of technical mumbo but I do not think that is what you want or need.

Software version number confusion

Just to confuse matters, this new AppleTV software is v4.2 (and not 4.3).
It's based on iOS 4.3, but is referred to as v4.2 (2060) by the AppleTV.

NWDI SP Level

Hello,
I am on EP7.0 and upgrading the ESS/MSS BP's and I want to know whether NWDI should be kept at the ame level as the DEV,QAT and PRO systems ..if yes then going one level up which system should be patched first ...?

Thanks for the reply. Please let me know that with sp1 you mean the new SP or the old one .....also why there is a need of running jspm under nwdi control and and having the modified sca in the inbox folder ....as any way we are creating a new track and moving the old changes....to it..
Also once the old changes are applied to the new SP and we transport it to DEV and CONS systems ...then to move to QAT and PRO do we do a normal transport or copy the sca file to the inbox folder of these runtime systems and use jspm...?

Service level% -- Confusion

I am working on service level %. I am using the MRP forecast type PV. Service level % is maintaibned and everytime the Forecast is executed, the safety stock is automatically updated in the material master.
Could you please explain me the formula/logic involved in this calculation??
for example if the forecast caluclates demand of 46%, and service lvel is mainntained to 55%. What would be the safety stock calculation logic

Hi,
Service level means, when the sales order comes, on what percentage you can cover the sales order requirement immediately, this is called service level.
when the service level % increases, your safety stock also will increase to cater the sales order requirement. When the service level % reduces, the safety stock also will reduce.

No enterprise mode option, IE is at correct version level

Hello. Has anyone seen an issue before where iexplore.exe is at version 11.0.9600.17420 (or even higher), which should allow for the enabling of Enterprise Mode, but the Enterprise Mode option is not listed as an option under Tools? We've checked registry
keys and policy, and all are set properly to allow Enterprise Mode. This only happens at the rate of about 1 out of every 100 installs, but we're perplexed on why this occurs.

How did you set up the group policy ?
To make the “Enterprise Mode ” appear in the Tool menu ,we should choose “Let users turn on and use Enterprise Mode from the Tools menu option”.If we choose “Use
the Enterprise Mode IE website list”, we will not have a “Enterprise Mode ” option in the Tool menu .

We can run “rsop.msc” to check the result of the group policy. There is a possibility that the group policy that has not been deployed correctly. We also can run “gpupdate /force ” to update the group policy again to have a check.

Version number confusi

When I go to the Information section on my Zen Touch, it tells me the "Version" is 2.. When I press the tiny restart hole and press play to go the options like Reboot, Format All etc, it says "Creative Zen Touch v. 0.0.0". Is there an issue there? Also, can the 2. Zen Touch connect to an ME computer, or is it just XP?

I can tell you that your situation is not uncommon with TestStand. The key is just doing it right the first time. haha
#1- I doubt that this is possible because then TestStand would have to know every location of every .seq on the machine. You will only see it when you open the sequence file.
#2- TestStand updates the version every time you change it. You should get a message popup when you try to save that asks if you want to increment the version or not. There's also a check box that says Remove Modified Mark From Types. Look under Station Options in the File tab. There are some settings there about Type conflicts.

[Solved] Package version format confusion: 1:0.16.17-1 = 1.0?

I'm having troubles understanding the versioning scheme used above. According to the libtorrent site, the latest version of libtorrent-rasterbar is 1.0, released on 2014-07-02. Our package has the "last updated" date of 2014-07-24, so I assumed we have the most up-to-date version. However, on the download page of libtorrent, there is both the 1.0 version and a 0.16.17 version. Is the arch package out of date or not? If yes, why is the "weird" 1:0.16-17-1 format is used?

Without knowing anything about libtorrent or its history in our repos, that version number hints that it may have been downgraded in the repos due to a problem with the 1.0 line.
The initial "1:" is an epoch number which is incrememented whenever the actual version number decreases yet the lower number should replace the higher in a normal upgrade.
So speculating, I suspect libtorrent 1.0 was added to the repos replacing 0.16, but a bug or problem or some conflict with other repo packages was found. So for the time being, it was downgraded back to 0.16.17 until those problems can be resolved, and thus the "1:" was appended. To figure out if this was the case, or why this would have happened, check the repo history, mailing lists, and bug tracker for information.
But to answer your core question, no 1:0.16.17-1 != 1.0
EDIT: oops - is this about libtorrent-rasterbar, or libtorrent? My answer (and the version number in your title) are just for the former.
