NX 7.5 and opening PDF's in illustrator

Hi Everyone, I am hoping someone one can help me here.
I work on technical illustrators using NX 7.5 and from that program export the drawings to PDF's.  In the previous versions of NX the PDFs would open in illustrator fine, text would be text, everything else would be vector.
Now in NX 7.5 when I open the PDF's in illustrator the text is being coverted to outlines, but in the PDF the text is fine, it's text.
I'm working on a windows 7 64bit computer, and using CS4.
Any help or suggestions with this would be great.
Thanks,
Karleen

Hi Mylenium,
I've attached a screenshot of the Export PDF settings.
I'm not sure about the User symbols in NX -  I just open the drawings and export to PDF and do what I need to do in Illustrator.
I checked my glyph substitution setting in AI, it was checked and I unchecked it but it did not help.
As for letting you see a reference PDF I can do that, I don't want to post it online... can I email it to you?
Thanks for the help.

  • How to embed and open PDF files within excel

I constantly need to embed PDF files onto Excel documents as well as extract/open/view PDF files from Excel documents. I am unable to do so with a macbook, i know that there is a workaround but it's such a tedious process. Is there a software i can buy or setting that i can do so that i can embed and open PDF files easily as i need to view these files multiple times a day for work.
    please advise

Download and install Adobe Reader: Adobe Reader Install for all versions
Open the PDF file using it. If security restrictions don't prevent it you could also print it.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go > Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • How to change outlook mail using Word to try and open PDF to Adobe Reader XI?

how to change outlook mail using Word to try and open PDF to Adobe Reader XI?

I've never found technology to make life easier. It mainly offers the promise (often unfulfilled) of making it cheaper or quicker. This didn't happen when the Girl Guides put a form in an envelope and posted it. But they probably laid off the person whose job that was with the promise of everything being easy on the internet.
PDF has, curiously, become a victim of its own success. A few years ago, you could say to people "You need Adobe Reader" and it was the only serious game in town. So they got it and it works. Now everyone is making their own PDF reader for whatever reason, fewer and fewer people can be sure of having Reader. (PDF readers come at least with every Mac, every Windows 8 system, Chrome and FireFox, which covers a LOT of ground).
This is coupled with a bizarre decision Adobe made a few years ago to have two kinds of form, one of which all the other software fails with (and, as I noted, even Adobe's own software on iPad and Android fails). This was a neat idea which was designed for big corporations. Then the really big mistake: giving everyone with Acrobat the tools to make these new kinds of form, and making it seem they were preferre or the only game in town. This is finished now (Acrobat 11 doesn't include this big boy's software) but the damage is done, oh how it is done.
Even regular forms tend to only work properly in real Adobe Reader. The fact is, if you make or distribute PDF forms you need to tell people to use Adobe Reader, and to know exactly how to help them do that. If people can't do that or their users won't be motivated to bother, then PDF forms are no longer a suitable choice. Sad but true.

  • Can't open PDF's in Illustrator CS5

I have just recently upgraded from CS4 to CS5. Now I cant open PDF's with Illustrator CS5. Right clicking the pdf and selecting "open with" does not show Illustrator in list. Also, I have attempted to browse to the actual Illustrator .exe file and choosing this directly. It will then only open pdf with Acrobat.

Can you not open pdfs by using the Open command in Illie?
It sounds like you are on Windows.
On a Mac you can open files by dragging their icons over the icon of the programme (or an alias/shortcut of it, as in the Dock).
Not sure if that works on Windows, but give it a try.

  • I've tried all the advice on the Firefox Help site, but I still can't download anything. Yesterday, I was able to download and open PDF files fine. Today... no.

While I was working on my Mac last night, I got a message that I needed to download an Adobe (I think an Acrobat X Pro) update. I did. That seems to be the time when I started having problems. Now I can't use the uninstaller for the program. I think that may be the problem, but my ability to fix it stops here.
I'm usually more discerning about updates, etc, but I was working on a project and the flashing updater was bothering me, so I hit yes, not really looking at the app I was updating. Ugh. My mistake.

    Hi hobanny,
Have you looked at the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] Knowledge Base article? There is a lot of useful information in there. It actually lists two different plugins to try for opening PDF files. I'd try both of them just to be safe.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • How do you download and open PDF files that come in the email?

I can NOT download or open PDF files. It prompts me to open in IBooks and then it's not there. I am so frustrated. PLEASE HELP!

Touch the attachement once to download it.  Then touch it a second time, after it is downloaded ( watch the attachment icon) to open it in quick view. if you want to do something more than just view it, and if you want to save it,  Touch and hold the downloaded attachment to get the 'open in' pop up, and any app that supports PDFs, like I books, or any of the other PDF ready apps.
If it is not downloaded yet, it will not be in I books.

  • In Lion, how do I force Safari to always download and open PDFs in Preview?

I tried to do the "defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool YES" in Terminal.app, but Safari still opens and renders PDFs in place.
    Look:
    defaults read com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport
    1
Anyone know how to make this work?
    OS 10.7.1, Safari 5.1, i5 MBP

Hi. Thank you for the tips. option-click on the download link does indeed download the PDF to the Downloads folder, but then I have to go open it in Preview myself.
In 10.6, I had my Safari app prefs tweaked (using the defaults command in the terminal) that would make Safari download a PDF and hand it off to Preview for viewing automatically.
Now, even if I do the same defaults write thing, PDFs still open in place in Safari.
Did Apple remove this from Safari 5.x? Is it simply a bug that got introduced in 5.x?

  • AS2, Flash 8 and opening pdf files

    Hi all,
I am using Flash 8, Actionscript 2, to open pdf files from a
    projector.
Everything is fine if I use 'FreeMX' and the computer has
    Acrobat 5, 6, 7 installed.
But it fails to work if the computer has Adobe Reader 8
installed - the pdf document does not open.
Does anyone know of this and whether there is a workround?
It's kinda urgent - the client is breathing down my neck here:)
    Julian

I think I may have resolved my problem - it looks like Adobe
Reader 8 uses different code to parse its command line than before.
The path and file name I used in my code had '/' as the path
separator, which worked fine with Acrobat/Reader 6 and 7. But (at
least here) not with Adobe Reader 8 - instead I had to convert to
    '\' to make it work.

  • Using Thunderbird/Firefox - since last upgrade, issues with HTML emails and opening PDF

Since last upgrade, it seems that I'm having 2 (maybe 3) problems:
    1)  emails have white/grey horizontal lines in the bottom half of the email's text or graphics
    2)  can't open pdf files - when I could without issue before upgrade
    3)  Adobe Reader - I've downloaded updates, but they won't install.  (says not compatible with my computer, but running Mac OSX 10.6.8  (I even downloaded Opera brower to see if that would work, but there still seem to be Adobe issues)
    Any thoughts?

I think you are correct, that was not a good idea.
Hopefully they all wound up in Home/Library/Fonts.  You can safely delete everything in there, as OS X does not put anything in that folder.  Fonts part of the OS are

  • Problems opening pdf's in illustrator.

When I open a pdf in illustrator, I get many individual objects and numerous squares that contain lots of information (like they have been flattened or merged).  I would really like to get the objects that make up these flattened or merged areas.  Has anyone encountered this before and found a way to get at the other data?

They would have to save from Illustrator the .pdf with preserve illustrator editing capabilites, or else the file is optimized for .pdf and the layers are flatttened, raster effects & images embedded. Once the file is optimized for .pdf that information is gone.
If a .pdf preset such as smallest file size was used, then images are not only comprfessed, but converted to RGB.

  • Opening PDF's in Illustrator - Digital signature Issue

Having an Issue with Digital signatures...
Currently we are opening up PDF's into Illustrator and changing some art,  the Digital signature is not showing but its appearing again when the file is made back into a PDF.
Would like the Digital Signature removed but can't do it from Illustrator as its not appearing.
Its not my signature so I can't remove it the normal way by just clearing it from Acrobat???
    Any suggestions anyone???

You could open the pdf, in a text editor and remove the code for the signature. Problem with that is the code is hard to find what to delete, as it is not in postscript section, but all scrambled letters(hexadecimal or something like that).
Open the pdf in illustrator, copy all , and paste into a new document, and your signature will be gone.
