NX 8800 GTS 320 mb OC memory problem

Hi everyone, i have a msi 8800 gts 320 mb OC and my problem is that the graphic card is using the 320 mb always it don't stop
i have a mini aplicacion to see the clock and the fan and the memory and the memory is using 99% of it
How can i solve this problem?

I don't really know what your problem is to be honest. Are you taliking of system or vga memory. If vga memory be aware that there is no power saving on old G80 vgas for the memory.

  • 8800 GTS 320 OC! crashes back to desktop

Hi. I was playing Rainbox six vegas and after continously playing for approx 1 hour, it crashed back to the desktop. I thought it would be the problem with the game and then i re-installed the game and updated with new patch. Again after playing 1 hour of game it crashed backed to the desktop.
I am currently using 158.22 driver.
Now can you tell me y it happens.
Also which is the best stress test for the GPU for checking stability.

I also had some probs with 158.22 and that's why I'm using 162.18 right now. I think it's more stable.
Best software for stresstest would be scanning for artifacts with ATI Tool. Would be the first thing to do before changing anything. Especially to make sure problem is vga related.

  • P6N SLI Platinum (MS-7350) 4 gig memory problem

I've owned this board over a year, running fine with 2 gig Corsair XMS2 CM2X1024-6400C4.  CPU is E-6600  XP Pro SP3, AMI Bios v1.6,    NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS (320 MB).  Power: Zerodba 620 Watt.  Had cpu at 3 gz (1333 fsb) from 2.4 and 1:1 ratio (667) on memory, but when I added two new sticks (same as above) I got BSOD.   I checked each set individually in first two slots and memtest passes.  When all four sticks are in, memtest hangs, varying from 3 minutes to 54 minutes.   Is there a conclusion to be drawn other than a bad motherboard/mem slots?
I tried liveupdate, then found out that's bad too and has its own bsod issues.... disappointing.  Not too happy with MSI right now.  Have I missed something?  I put all bios settings back to standard before testing.
From the beginning, the onboard networking didn't work, but I had a spare    SMC EZ Card 10/100 PCI (SMC1211 Series) card to pop in and it's been working fine.  I have had occasional no video on bootup, but not sure if that's related.  Sometimes native 1600x1200 res changes to 1024x768 after waking from S3 suspend, but I suspect that's driver related.  I've removed and reseated all cards and memory and checked all cables are tight.
I could use some constructive suggestions please.  I just turned 60 and in order to learn something new I have to forget something to make room.   If you need more info, please ask.
The board is still under warranty....how is MSI on turnaround time?  Am I better off just buying a new board?
    Thanks.

shut down pc, open up your pc  and remove three memory and leave the one  closest to cpu slot 1. power the pc and let window and all prog to load. then download the cpuz prrog link below
    http://www.filehippo.com/search?q=cpuz
then run it then click on memory section and spd section you will see similar things (take no notice of mine because i am now using a different pc)

make a note of those reading on paper.
then you have to make adjustment in your virtual memory for 4 gb please do that then (if you do not know please reply so i show you how) then shut down pc and insert the other three memory then power the pc and go into bios . in order to change memory setting you have to go from Auto to manual so first change the cpu setting from auto to manual then go towards memory you will see either 667 or 800 depending on your memory if it is 800 the enter 700 then hit return and the other setting you have to change according to those figure you made note of it on paper.
after these if you use the arrow downward keep hitting it till you get to the end of the page and on the left hand side you see another parameter by clickin on the setting you change it from 4% or 6% or 8% or 12% . this is another parameter that you have to change in order to get it stable. i would suggest 8%

  • Big problem with AE CS3 - abnormal  slow with nvidia 8800 GTS 512 !

I try everything, newest drivers (nvidia 8800 GTS 512), older drivers, beta drivers, alternative drivers, uninstall QTime, disable OpenGL in After Effects, delete openGL plugin.... Simply, did not help. AE CS3 is abnormal slow, type text, draw and edit mask, any kind of moving element , moving windows (interface).... everything. When turn on openGL, openGL work fine, fast, smooth., but non openGL operation (written above), still the same! I did some test and found that similar problem have with encore (not my primary application, but...). Other programs work perfectly (premiere, photoshop, illustrator). I have core2 quad 6600 @ 3 GHz, 3 GB RAM, 8800 GTS 512 @ 2560 x 1600, win XP pro strong configuration but unusable for AE CS3!!! I try to reduce resolution, but also, did not help.
Please, is there anyone with some solution? Is problem with AE or drivers? Thanks.

    >My 8800GT is not going to work with AE and it's listed under Adobe's
    >supported graphic cards????
That's premature to say. Please understand that in the OpenGL game there are just too many varaibles, a lot of them outside the control of Adobe or any other software vendor for that matter. Please consider the following:
    - if tested, a card is usually tested in one configuration available at the time that presumably will be the most common one bought by users. There is room for better sub-versions (more VRAM, higher memory clock), as well as weaker ones (less VRAM, lower clock speed).
    - the previous applies to the host computer. Nobody can test the 100 new different motherboards that come out every month let alone all that are already on the market. Same for RAM, processors, other peripherals.
    - multiple vendors may produce cards based on the same design, but may use different BIOSes and branding
    - even under ideal conditions, a given graphics card will be tested in about 30 different computer or so - some in Adobe's lab, others with Beta testers. As it stands, neither of them will necessarily coincide with your configuration nor will anyone throw a lot of money out of the window just to buy a hundred new testing machines...
    - BIOS configuration, motherboard voltage fluctuations, PCI timings and whatnot can vary from user to user and thus have drastically different influence how a certain component behaves.
    - lastly, driver configuration can vary. Even with seemingly the same driver version, the config may auto-adapt to different settings based on the environment it finds.
So given all of the above, please understand that this is a *******' tough job and by all rights nobody intentionally tries to scam users or something like that. You will also find it hard to blame anyone in legal terms, as you usually agree to use the software "as is" - with all it's flaws. As David says - please try first. We will gladly try to help you sort out any issues and who knows - none of the problems affecting other users may come down on you and you'll be a happy camper after all.

  • NX8800 GTS 320 OC-ED artifacts

    Hi
    Please help.
I have a NX8800 GTS 320 which is factory OC.
My PSU is Antec Smart Power 2.0 450W with 12V1=15A and 12V2=17A.
I get intermittent artifacts in Crysis game. (The only game ever)
    Using nvidia 169.09 drivers.
The GPU temp never goes higher than 67C with the FAN on 100%.
So I ruled out temp issue.
If I get artifacts and I talt-tab to desktop and back to game the artifacts are cleared.
This points to problem with the VRAM on the card?
When I use ATI tool the temp goes above 80C and no artifacts are found.
I clocked the core and mem clocks to the stock model (500/1600) and do net get artifacts so far.
Does this mean the card is faulty and can be RMA ad the supplier?
    Thanks for help.
    Stephan

try with different game, see if problem will persist there too.
"Concerning the PSU.  When I bought my card MSI recommended a 400W PSU and I also did research concerning the amps.  Surely a PSU with combine 12V rails of 15A+17A is enough? Never had problems with power supply before."
8800 GTS need at least +26A on +12V. Look here for decent & good PSU suggestion and read about dual myth as well:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=112039.msg836246#msg836246
"I ran ATI tool for more than 30mins on factory overclocked settings and had no artifacts.
Seeing this and that artifacts does not happen in any other game I think my card is fine and does not need to be RMA."
ATI tool is a plain test, can't stress the VGA completely.(but its recommended to pass ati tool 1st to detect basic failures if exist)
Too possible Ati tool to report no problems, while real problem exist.
I suggest you to use Human Demo(http://us.download.nvidia.com/downloads/nZone/nvidia/nzd_HumanHeadSetup.exe), to test VGA for stability.

  • Sound Problem Plus Memory Problem

I've also posted this same issue at the EVGA website with no help what so ever yet. Also if it's ok I'm having the above mentioned memory problem that it probable not related but if anyone does have good input I would love to hear. Hope this doesn't break any rules, didn't see anything in the listed rules thread. So here it goes.
Ok I'm having a few minor but very perplexing and annoying problems. I have recently built a new rig to include the following.
Windows 7 64 bit Home Edition
    EVGA P55 FTW Intel P55 Socket LGA56
    Intel Core i5-750 2.66Ghz 8M LGA56 CPU
    Corsair Dominator 4GB DDR3 PC2800 (2 x 2 GB sticks)
    Ultra LSP750 750w Power Supply
Seagate TB Serial ATA HD 7200/32MB
Cooler Master HAF 932 Full Tower Black Case
Galaxy GeForce GTS 250 52MB PCIe x2 (SLI Setup)
BFG - NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT GB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card (Physx Setup)
    PROBLEM ONE:
This one I had a lot less that I was able to actually try because it just confused the crap out of me. So I started by going to test my sound. I'm running an optical cable from the on board sound port to back of my sony surround sound system. I get sound from my left and right channel but nothing from the center, rears or sub. So figure no biggie just need to change the configuration from 2 speaker stereo to 5. surround sound. Guess what... the option isn't there? WTF? A sound card with an optical port with no 5. support? So went online found the drivers for the sound on the mother board and tried reinstalling thinking maybe somthing was wrong with the drivers on the CD. Well it still didn't work. So I figured what ever, I got an external sound card that I know works with Windows 7 since it was on other desktop and hooked it up. Its a Creative - Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5. External USB Sound Card. Well it installs fine and I go to test it. Yep you guessed it! Still only sound from the left channel and the right channel with no option for surround sound. So I was able to find updated drivers for that and ran em. Well now I have an option for Surround sound with side speakers only no rear. Oh but it doesn't really matter because the left and right channel are still the only ones able to produce sound. And yes the speakers work I turned on my X-Box 360 hooked up to the same speakers and LCD tv and played COD4 with full sound working fine. So something else has to be happening I just have no idea.
    PROBLEM TWO:
The second problem was with the memory. Everything booted fine but it initial only detected 2 GB. By the way I had them installed in slots and 3. So I shut down and popped em out checked the copper connectors everything looked fine and reseated the chi
    ps.
This time during the boot up I checked the BIOS. It saw all 4 GBs of memory. Continued into Windows. Windows now saw all 4 but only .99 GB was available. Now the only other time I've seen anything like this was with on board video sharing the memory, and even then it wasn't half of the systems total memory. I then tried shutting down and putting the chips in 2 and 4 just see what would happen. Well I got an EA post error on the LED, couldn't even boot. So I figured o'well power down completely and tried to run the memory in 2 and 3 to run it out of dual channel. I was able to boot but still had the same issue. .99 GB available and still saw all 4. At this point it was just getting silly so I figured ok I'll download the new BIOS with my laptop, burned it to a CD. Booted the desktop and ran the BIOS flash. Update seemed work fine, honestly the BIOS didn't look much different and I didn't take note of the previous version before I did it so I can only assume it worked. However it did not fix my problem. So I'm still stuck at windows seeing 4 GB of memory with only .99 available.
Anyway... I'll keep trying to get this working and hunting around online, but I'm really hoping you all have some ideas. I'll be trying to call EVGA today for some help too and possibly Corsair. Thanks in advance for the help!

    Hello,
cannot help with the sound problem.
For memory, I've got almost the same thing but with 4 sticks of 2gb and only 2 detected on an ASUS P7P55D deluxe.
Bios was my issue but I needed to do this (but with pairs of sticks instead of sticks) after the bios update to finally get my 8gb under windows:
Make a clear cmos. Then boot the computer with only one stick of ram in the port .
If everything is fine, turn off and add the other port of the same color for dual channel.
If it does not boot with the 2 sticks in the port of the good color, try to switch ports again. Maybe one stick is dead?

  • SLI with 2 8800 GTS 640Mo

    Hello,
I'm a french customer, so don't care about my english
I have some troubles with my two 8800 gts cards. The SLI mode stay disable.
    This is my configuration:
    *Vista 32 ultimate
*ASUSTeK Striker Extreme (NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI)
    *Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
    *Kingston 2 Go DDR2-SDRAM PC6400 CL4 (2 x 1 Go)
    *MSI NX8800GTS-T2D640-HD-OC-  640 Mo ! overclocked version !
    *MSI NX8800GTS-T2D640-HD-       640 Mo ! normal version !
*Cool Master Real Power M1000 (1000 watts)
I used NiBiTor to look the difference, and I find that bios version is not the same.
Version 60.80.07.00.02 for the normal version.
Version 60.80.0A.00.02 for the OC version.
Do I need to flash one card to enable the SLI mode ?
    Anyone have an idee ?
PS: * I placed the bridge between the 2 cards
    * Nvidia driver version is 169.25

Does both VGA's are detected by OS?
    Yes all detected
Have you connected power cables to each VGA's?
    Yes
Make sure that your VGA's are located in correct PCI-E slots.
    Both on 16x
Make sure that you have all Vista patches installed
    Thanks for it and installed
    Does it work in XP?
I don't have any version of XP, so i can't check this point :/
    Verify SLI status with Everest:
I don't have the same as you
I make a report via Everest. Perhaps that helps you ...
    http://spacefrog.no-ip.org/ReportG80SLI.htm
*I've flash the bios of my MB (Extrem Striker) with the last one (1401).
*I checked all option in BIOS and something ode ... "SLI-Ready Memory" are disabled and I can't change it.
Is it because my RAM is not compatbile ?
I turn around and i don't anderstand why SLI don't want to be enable ... I'm crying

  • P6N SLI with Geforce 8800 GTS 640 MB won't install Windows

    Hi all,
After a reply in the topic for updating your bios.
I was advised to ask the solution for my question here before flashing my Mobo.
    My Specs:
    Intel Core 2 Duo 6600
    4 GB DDR-2 (4 slots)
    Geforce 8800 GTS 640 MB PCI-Express
    Sitecom WL-171 wireless lan card.
    500 GB Hitachi SATA Disk
    1 DVD burn/reader
P6N SLI Mainbord with Beta Bios because it wasn't able to use 4 GB Ram at that time.
    Zalman 460 Watt
    Now the problem
First it was working but with a Geforce 7600 GT 256 PCI-Express.
I have upgraded it today to a 8800 GTS.
After this upgrade my Vista won't boot anymore, same for my Ubuntu.
    What is causing the problem?
Is my Powersupply not strong enough or should I flash my bios?
    Thanks in advance.
edit: Windows XP 32 or 64 bit. Vista 32 or 64 bit all gave the same stop error: 0x000007e
The knowledge base sais it is a driver problem?
    But it isn't even installed.

    Check VGA power cable too.

  • 8800 GTS 512 OC - Runs in 3D for few minutes then freezes

    Hi there.
I just got an 8800 GTS 512 OC, upgrading from a Radeon 1950 XT. The card works fine in 2D (it's in the machine as I type this). But when I try to play any game, it works fantastically for a few minutes (or seconds depending on how intensive the game is), and then freezes completely, with sound looping endlessly. I have to reboot to get out of it.
I got the latest WHQL driver from Nvidia, 169.25, but that didn't help things. Oh, and don't worry, I removed the old ATI drivers and ran DriverClean Pro to remove any hidden remnants before I installed the card and drivers.
I cannot use MSI Live Update, because as soon as I install it, I get a BSOD after rebooting:
    flashsys.sys,
    page fault in non-page area
    0x00000050 (0xBAB78000, 0x00000000, 0xBADF71B0, 0x00000000)
Thinking it might be an OS issue, I then reformatted the system and ran a clean install of windows, but the same thing happened again. Makes me suspect that this is a hardware issue, since it seems the new WHQL driver is working jsut fine for other people.
My system has worked fine until this card was installed, but here are my system specs for reference:
    System specs:
E6600 at stock speed cooled by Zalman 9500 mod with Noctua 120mm fan
Asus P5K-Deluxe, with P-ATA, Firewire, LAN og WLAN controllers disabled.
    2GB Corsair Dominator 8500 @ 1066 v/ 5-5-5-18, 2.2V
Corsair HX-620W PSU (should be more than enough juice)
D-Link DWL G510 PCI Wifi kontroller
NEC Optiarc 7170 Sata II DVD burner
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500MB Sata II (houses C: partition + E: storage)
    Old Maxtor 320GB Sata I (storage, D:)
Gigabyte 3d Aurora case fans: 1x120mm front, 2x120mm back
    and of course:
MSI 8800 GTS 512 OC, ved 730core 1944 mem, with Forceware 169.21 WHQL
Running legit Windows XP Professional SP2, fully updated.
    other processes:
    ESET Smart Security
    Logitech SetPoint
    Soundmax panel for onboard sound
The card also fails while testing with ATITool artifacts scanner. A worrying thing I have noticed is that the fan speed does not adjust as temperature increases. Instabilities while running ATITool start when the card hits around 75C, and gets worse and worse as it passes 80C. Fan still runs at same speed. Might be a fan controller issue, but this card should not be having problems at 75C-85C.
I should specify, that it does not actually fail the artifact test...it just starts freezing, then going again, then freezing, then going again, until it freezes completely.
I really do not know what to do next. I think my card is just plain faulty, so thinking of RMA. If anyone has any ideas or advice, please please help me out.
    Best regards,
    Mikkel.

Setup VGA mem. freq. to 1872Mhz and re-test.
OK, I just tried out your suggestion, but sadly, the same thing happens. I should add that it does exactly the same thing when just running the 3D view
Also that the card emits a high-pitch modulating whining noise (it is not bearing noise from the fan, it sounds more like a high-pitch capacitor buzz), is that supposed to be there?

  • NVida + 7900GTX + 8800 GTS 512 + 3 LCD's - Single Desktop Fail

I've been trying to get this to work for months - literally months (on Fedora, Ubuntu, Gentoo, and now Archlinux, which is where I'll stay), with no success.  All I want is the ability to use a single desktop across all three LCD's.  This is what the setup is:
    Geforce 7900 GTX
    - 1600x1200 LCD
    - 1600x1200 LCD
    Geforce 8800 GTS 512

I can get everything to work flawlessly as 3 seperate screens.  When I turn on xinerama (and turn off randr, or even leave it on), X starts up, shows the root desktop, then bails.  If I have Gnome installed, it tells me it's unable to find a valid depth, but if I just have the virgin X with nothing extra but the basics installed, it just drops to the console with no error message of any kind.  The Xorg.0.log also shows no errors in either case.  Other WM's vary in the messages they generate as well (I now have a VMWare image with snapshots with most major WM's just so I can easily try and switch between various WM's), but all fail the same way.
Since the screens are on different cards, randr isn't an option.  I have used many combinations of generating the xorg.conf, as well as writing it by hand, and it always ends up the same way.
I am not new to Linux (nor Unix), but I am new to Arch.  It is, finally, the distro I have been looking for for a LONG time.  I wished I had noticed it a long time ago and saved myself a lot of hassle.  Been a Red Hat/Fedora user since the beginning.
Anybody got any ideas?  I can provide the logs and conf's if anyone likes, but I doubt they'll help.  I guess what I am hoping is that someone has seen or heard of this before, because failing that, I think I might be SOL.
One last thing:  I haven't tried this with the NV driver, but I will try that later today just to see if it's only the NVidia driver that's the problem.  I am actually pretty sure it is specific to the NVidia driver, but I haven't verified for _sure_, and I need 3D ability, so the NV driver isn't a long term solution.

Glad to hear it.  Well, not really - glad to hear I'm not alone in this.  Uh, I think I'll stop before the hole gets deeper...
I've submitted a report to NVidia, but I don't expect I'll hear from them about it since it's not a common problem.
I'm checking into faking the Xinerama extension to see if that can work;  Seems plausible, but who knows.
If only I could find a reliable and easy way to move windows between screens, I'd be able to live with the 3 separate desktops.
Thanks for the confirmation that I'm not going insane!

  • Dual Core Center- MSI 8800 GTS and MSI P6N SLI Platinum.

I have both the MSI 650i MOBO and the MSI 8800 GTS vidcard. When using an Asus P5B Dlx MOBO and this vidcard, Dual Core Center was installed and displayed the information for the videocard and allowed a mild OC. Now with both MSI products in the case, Dual Core Center only displays the information on the MOBO-- no 8800 GTS information. The tab at the top for the VGA does not bring up anything.  ??? I have tried installing the version on each one of the disks that came with each piece of equipment again and it doesn't seem to make a difference, it doesn't work. I downloaded the most recent version of the utility from the MSI site and still get only the MOBO information. How do I get the display for the video card?
Or since the MSI utilities typically are listed on the forums as not being the greatest, what else can I/should I be using instead?
    {I put this in the MOBO forum too as it hits both areas...}

Found that AtiTool (latest beta) works on the 8800's. The "find max core" and "find max memory" don't work perfectly though, as they start the overclock and then are supposed to check for errors; they are supposed to stop the adjustment upward when they encounter erros and come back down......    AtiTool just kept cranking it up, although you could visibly see the little 3D screen artifact all over the place. But It gave a good starting place to do the OC manually and then go run the scan for artifacts and errors manually.  AtiTool listed the stock core at 513 and stock memory at 792. I was able to take the core up to ~644 and the memory up to ~877. I backed these off some (as you can't run both at max!) and it looked stable at 630 core, 860 memory.  Ran through both 3DMark 05 and 3DMark06 without a hitch. Need to check it out with some extended gameplay now.

  • Memory problems P67A-GD65

I'm having issues with setting all slots of my ram to DDR 1600 only the 2nd and 4th slot is taking the manual timing and even with XMP its still only doing it for my 2nd and 4th slot. I have tested and looked over my ram and both are listed for 1600 but it won't change in the bios.
EDIT by Mod: Motherboard: MSI P67A-GD65
    Processor: I7 2600k Sandy Bridge
    Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Power Supply: Cooler Master Gold Series 1200w +12V~98A, +5V~25A, +3.3V~22A
BFG Nvidia 8800 gts 512 mb (About to upgrade soon)
    HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.C 1tb
    No cd drive currently

Split from the beta BIOS section as it is a more general query regarding OC'ed memory management.
Which BIOS are you currently using ?
Did you do a BIOS flash at any stage, and if so, what did you flash it to?
Did you do a CMOS clear after the flash with CMOS battery removed ?>>Clear CMOS Guide<<
My own testing has shown that XMP will not set the correct voltages for low voltage mem modules before beta .N34 ; beta .N34 solved that issue on my Z68 board (in your case the .1FA). Your own memory may also be affected by XMP not recognising the memory programmed SPD profile correctly.

In this code i m facing memory problem.
It is not refreshing the memory every time.
So plz give me proper solution.
    Its urgent.
    Thanks
    Ranveer

    Hi,
I suppose you are trying to store some particular value in memory in one program and then retieve it in another.
If so try using EXPORT data TO MEMORY ID 'ZC1'. and IMPORT data FROM MEMORY ID 'ZC1'.
To use SET PARAMETER/GET PARAMETER the specified parameter name should be in table TPARA. Which I don't think is there in your case.
    Sample Code :
Data declarations for the function codes to be transferred
    DATA : v_first  TYPE syucomm,
           v_second TYPE syucomm.
    CONSTANTS : c_memid TYPE char10 VALUE 'ZCCBPR1'.
Move the function codes to the program varaibles
      v_first  = gv_bdt_fcode.
      v_second = sy-ucomm.
Export the function codes to Memory ID
    EXPORT v_first
v_second TO MEMORY ID c_memid.        "ZCCBPR1  --- Here you are sending the values to memory
    Then retrieve it.
Retrieve the function codes from the Memory ID
      IMPORT v_first  TO v_fcode_1
             v_second TO v_fcode_2
      FROM MEMORY ID c_memid.                                   "ZCCBPR1
      FREE MEMORY ID c_memid.                                   "ZCCBPR1
After reading the values from memory ID free them your problem should be solved.
    Thanks

  • Memory Problems with Adobe PDF iFilter for 64-bit

In preparation to rebuild my Windows Search Index, I installed the Adobe PDF iFilter for 64-bit on my system (Vista Business 64).  When I finally rebuilt the index, I wasn't too surprised by what I saw happen, namely, the SearchFilter.exe process would kick in whenever I wasn't using the system and just eat RAM.  One time I turned it on and it had allocated over 4,000 MB (and my system only has 4,030 MB available) so of course it was forcing all the other processes to hard fault (ie. everything was moving like molasses--for example, it took 20 minutes to put the thing to sleep).  But I just let it do it's work, figuring that perhaps this was to be expected relative to the small library of PDF's that I've accumulated on my computer, ranging from LaTeX generated text files, to containers for hi-res scans.  So, after a day and a half of basically not using my laptop, everything finally calmed down and I enjoyed the benefits of searching the content of my library from the Windows Start menu--for a short while.
However, to my dismay I've encountered the problem that this freezing of my computer would now occur after everytime I download a new PDF (in this particular case they were Google Books scans) and then left the computer to idle.  Again, the SearchFilter.exe would allocate all of my RAM for itself and just push everything else onto the Virtual RAM, which means the SLOWEST possibly fetching you can get.  I had to uninstall as this was making my computer unusable for 15-30 minutes after each idle. Everything is back in working order without the iFilter, but I would like to know if anyone has reported such problems on x64 systems.  Obviously, I will also report the problem to Microsoft, since the search engine should certainly have the precaution to handle such memory problems.   However, it is a problem that is created by the Adobe PDF iFilter interacting with the Windows Search engine.

    Hello,
We believe we have figured this out.  It looks like it has to do with the length of the default folder location for the Adobe iFilter.
I was able to reproduce the issue and the following resolved it for me.  See if this resolves it for you all as well.
Here is how to get Adobe Version 11 PDF filter to work.
1 . If you haven’t already, run the following in SQL Server:
    Sp_fulltext_service ‘Load_os_resources’, 1
    Go
--you might also need to run:
sp_fulltext_service ‘Verify_signature’,0  --This is used to validate trusted iFilters. 0 disables it. So use with caution.
    --go
    2. Stop SQL Server.  (Make sure FDHost.exe stops)
    3.
Uninstall the Adobe ifilter (because it defaulted to having spaces or the folder name is too long).
    4.
Reinstall the Adobe iFilter and when it prompts for where to install it, change it to: C:\Program Files\Adobe\PDFiFilter
    5.  Once the installation finishes, go the computer’s Environment variables. Add the following to the PATH.
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\PDFiFilter\BIN
NOTE: it must include the BIN folder
NOTE: If you had the OLD location that included spaces, remove it from the path environment variable.
    6. Start SQL Server
    7.  IF you had an existing Full-text index on PDFs, drop the full-text index and recreate it.
    8. You should now get results when you run sys.dm_fts_index_keywords('db','tblname')  --Note: Change db to be the actual database name and tblname to be the actual table name.
Give this a try and see if this fixes yours.
    Sincerely,
    Rob Beene, MSFT

  • Memory problems with PreparedStatements

    Driver: 9.0.1 JDBC Thin
I am having memory problems using "PreparedStatement" via jdbc.
After profiling our application, we found that a large number oracle.jdbc.ttc7.TTCItem objects were being created, but not released, even though we were "closing" the ResultSets of a prepared statements.
Tracing through the application, it appears that most of these TTCItem objects are created when the statement is executed (not when prepared), therefore I would have assumed that they would be released when the ResultSet is close, but this does not seem to be the case.
We tend to have a large number of PreparedStatement objects in use (over 100, most with closed ResultSets) and find that our application is using huge amounts of memory when compared to using the same code, but closing the PreparedStatement at the same time as closing the ResultSet.
Has anyone else found similar problems? If so, does anyone have a work-around or know if this is something that Oracle is looking at fixing?
    Thanks
    Bruce Crosgrove

From your mail, it is not very clear:
    a) whether your session is an HTTPSession or an application defined
    session.
    b) What is meant by saying: JSP/Servlet is growing.
    However, some pointers:
    a) Are there any timeouts associated with session.
    b) Try to profile your code to see what is causing the memory leak.
    c) Are there references to stale data in your application code.
