i'm probably getting a 40gb touch but want to see how it compares to the other players...i like the fm radio, voice & fm recording (can you record from a line in too)...is the battery removable?...does it have clock/sleep/wake, smart volume, or time scaling? how is the navigation compared to the others? what are the differences between the nx, xtra, and usb 2.0 (shouldn't they have called it the zen firewire {or something similar but catchier}--aren't they all usb2?) vs touch?

In what sense? The controls, the UI?... If so, much the same as the others (at least similar to the Micro in respect of the Touchpad), but there's quite a few less features on the Touch as you can see.

Nomad Zen Xtra Firmware / USB Connection Iss

I have Zen Xtra 60Gb I was transferring music and then it said it couldn't transfer the track or the following track and so on. The menu on the Zen Xtra froze. I waited for a while but I got impatient I just pulled the battery out and put it back in to restart the player. Since then I have had nothing but issues. . Zen Xtra is connected via USB, computer makes the sound to show a USB device has been connected but the computer does do not see the device. 2. I have performed the scan disk, re-loaded the OS with the latest firmware and also re-formatted the unit. Somehow on Wednesday night I go the unit back in working order and then last night exactly the same thing happened again - I was transferring music and then it said it couldn't transfer the track or the following track etc... I did a all the same again to try and resolve the issue (except I didn't pull out the battery!) I am currently getting a firmware error. Any ideas?

Zen Xtra with USB on car ster

Hi,
Can anyone clarify this for me?
I've heard that the new firmware will let you use the Zen Xtra as if it were a usb pen dri've, wil this allow stereo's with USB connectivity to read the mp3's off the Zen?

The iPod can't play music as a mass storage device either. USB stereos generally require an Ipod connector that can cost around $00. Apparently, Zen's aren't popular enough to warrant 3rd parties manufacturing these connectors.
There is more than one way to skin a cat, however.
For around $85, you can get a 40 gb 2.5" HDD and an enclosure. Just copy your non-DRM mp3/wma files to it, plug it into your stereo, and you should be good to go. And you'll have a handy backup of your music to boot.
Just something to think about....

NOMAD JukeBox Zen Xtra driver will not inst

I plug in my NOMAD JukeBox Zen Xtra 30GB into my computer and it shows up as USB\VID_04e&PID_428 but the driver shows the ZEN Xtra as USB\VID_04e&PID_40. I changed USB\VID_04e&PID_40?to USB\VID_04e&PID_428 but it still doesn't work. It come up with error code 0?Suggestions???

Same problem here. Also tried editing the drivers with error code 0 "device cannot be started"

RMA Question: Zen Xtra 6

My 60Gb Zen Xtra's USB connector broke and sank inside the unit so I sent it in for repair. RMA status shows that it was received on 0-7-05 and shows the following additional information:
Part Name: ASSY,TAUV+60G(Zen Xtra)
Serial Number: (My Zen's serial #)
Test Results: No Power with Battery
Rep. Part Name: (Blank)
Rep. Serial Number: (Blank)

They've had my Zen for just over 2 weeks now and the RMA status has never changed.

What does this mean?

It's probably the case that they've not tested it yet or haven't updated the page. You need to allow two weeks and a little bit more, so around 3 weeks, before chasing them up.
Ordinarily they send a replacement player anyway so once yours is confirmed faulty they will send the new player.

Zen Xtra doesnt charge, reboot l

Hi, I recently bought Creative Zen Xtra 40 GB player and im having difficulities charging it. When I bought this player it didnt have a charger but instead it had a USB cable that has two ends. One end is for data transfer and the other one is for charging, this way I can only charge the player while it is connected to PC. But that is not the problem. The problem is when I have my battery empty I plug it in for charging, the player turns itself on, the hard dri've starts to spin, but then during the EAX screen the player turns off and the hard dri've stops, but then starts rebooting again going into some sort of neverending reboot loop. I have charged It succesfully several times, but the lenght of the looping depends on how drained the battery is. My guess is that when the battery is fully drained it is too weak to fully boot the player so it stops the booting process and tries again and again. I would be very grateful for some useful answers, and if someone else has encountered with this problem, please post you thoughts or solutions.

The re boot loop usualy happens when the battery is too low, you should use a normal mains charger for teh Zen xtra as USB from a P.C does not provide enough power.
As with all lithium ion batteries such as those used in the Zen its best not to let them go completly flat, and keep them topped up.

Computer doesn't recognize X

Hey guys,
Sorry to start my first post on a bad note but...
I use Windows ME. I have all my music on MusicMatch 9 and with the necessary plug-ins from the MusicMatch site, the portable device manager can be used with my 3-month-old Xtra.
The very first time I plugged in my Xtra via USB, I saw the usual "Docked" screen and music transferred perfectly. I really, really, really didn't want to use the Creative Media software that came with it.
Well, I am still able to install the same plug-ins, but when I plug in my Xtra, the "Docked" screen doesn't come on. Just the main menu screen. After I install the plug-ins, I'm supposed to plug in the Xtra so the computer can add it and recognize it as hardware. It never finishes this. It always locks up.
I think the problem might lie with the Xtra, because this is the first time the "Docked" screen hasn't come up when I plug it with the USB cable. Could it be in the computer though?
I've cleaned up and reformated the Xtra to no avail. The "Docked" screen still doesn't come on. I've reinstalled the CD that came with the player also. I don't know what to do and I'm wondering if it would be easier to exchange it for a new one.

Creative Zen Xtra USB Driv

I need USB drivers for this player. Can somebody help me?

He is probably having the same problem I am.
All the drivers for the are installed before the player is connected. The Zen Xtra is connected afterwards.
The player connects with Windows XP, is recognized as the Creative Zen Xtra, but when after telling the system to install the drivers, it wants to connect with Windows Update to continue. After the attempt, it says that the drivers for the device were not found.
Looking in the Device Manager reveals that the Zen Xtra has a Code error - The Device is not Configured Properly. All the driver details are Not Available/Unknown.
I have attempted to install this player on 2 different systems with the same result. The Zen Xtra plays and otherwise functions normally. My Firmware Version is 2.0.03. One computer is an AMD64 with Windows XP SP2, the other is an AMD Sempron with Windows XP SPa.

Zen Xtra not recognized by USB p

When i hook up my zen Xtra (60gb) nothing is recognized by the usb port. it did work, before i downloaded the new driver, and now it doesn't see anything on the port. i tried a different usb port but it still doesn't see anything. any suggestions?

Tried a disk cleanup on the player? To run a Disk Cleanup you need to access the Rescue Mode. To access the Rescue Mode hold down the play button and KEEP it held down, press the tiny reset switch once, and KEEP the play button held down until the player boots into the Rescue Mode. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. Note: Disk cleanup should not remove your tracks. It searches through the disk for files and rebuilds the index, and can be useful for correcting any strange behaviour.
Alternati'vely, if the new drivers broke it have you tried installing the drivers from the CD?

Hooking a camera to Nomad jukebox Zen Xtra using a belkin USB bri

Has anyone tried to transfer files from a digital camera to a Nomad jukebox Zen Xtra using a belkin USB bridge? Or any of the other Creative Mp3 players? If not does anyone know any other way to use the mp3 player as photo storage when traveling without use of computer?

It certainly won't work with the Zen players because they use a non-standard format.
There's the possibility that it should work with the MuVo players as they are just USB mass storage, but I've heard mention of someone that supposedly tried it and it doesn't. Am I right in thinking the Belkin USB bridge is for the iPod, or is it supposed to work for any USB mass storage player?

Hello- I'm trying to install a Creative Zen Xtra mp3 player on Windows XP. I installed all of the drivers and software, but when I connected the player, I got an error from Windows saying the "USB device is not recognized". I tried downloading all the new drivers and software from Creative, but it's no use. I was hoping maybe someone would have the inf file so I can install the driver manually. Home fix for broken usb mini port? (Zen Xtra 40g

I bought my zen xtra from a friend about a month ago, and it was in perfect condition. Recently it wasn't being recognized by my computer, and then the usb port on the player slipped into the casing. (I think it wasn't recognized by the comp because the port was starting to slip, which wasn't providing a solid connection) Anyway, I was wondering if I could buy a player from e-bay, one of the ones with a broken hard dri've or something, and replace the peice with the usb port? Is this something someone with a bit of knowledge of tinkering with electronics could do? I haven't opened the case to look yet, I wanted your opinion first.. I was also wondering, if I do buy the parts from e-bay.. can I use the parts from a 30 gig player or does it have to be the 40 gig? There are tons of parts for 30 gig players on e-bay, and not many for the 40's.... any help would be appreciated.

Yep, you can certainly do this (although eBay's always a risk). The best thing to do would be a swap of the hard disks. Rudi Cheow's guide has some detail about dismantling a Zen, but this is for an earlier player. The Xtra is a little different, but not a million miles away.

Zen Xtra Charging through USB

Is there any way I can charge my Zen Xtra through the USB port. Like a Firmware that enables it or something? I'm desperare

Sorry to say, the player won't charge that way. I would get hold of Creative Support or go to the Shop section at the top of the page and see what is available under accessories for MP3 Players. I know they have an Xtra charger that you can use in an automobile. I have the regular wall type charger that came with my Xtra 30GB when I purchased it. A bit bulky, but works fine. Also check on eBay or Amazon.

Zen Xtra: USB Cable length

Does anyone know what the cable length is? Because just recently, a friend of mine bought me one, and I needed to get a PCI to USB card because my PC only supported USB .. But, I want the cable to reach up to the top of my tower at least.

I would measure mine, but since it's all tangled into the spaghetti of wires by my computer, i'll take a guess and say it's about 6 feet. Length enough to go from my computer up to my desk with cord to spare.
