NX6600GT screen dots, poor video performance

Hi everyone,
I just purchased a new computer from AVAdirect.com, a customized version of one of their high performance gaming systems. It is an SLI system with 2 NX6600GT-TD128E cards.
I'm having some major problems with it. I get random pixels appearing on forms, dialogues, the desktop, etc and all over any videos I try to play. I even had on video lock up and made the entire screen a garbled mess until I closed the video. I haven't tried any games on it yet.
I've tried installing the latest forceware drivers, and many of the older ones, with no success.
Right now I do not have SLI enabled, so I'm only using one of the cards.
This is what happens if I drag a window:
Notice the dots on the left side of the popup:
Other computer information:

I extended the desktop into the other video card, then made it my primary desktop. So far I haven't seen any problems with this one - though at the moment I can't see the computer booting up since it defaults to the first card
So at this point I guess it is likely a bad card. I'll have to call avadirect and get a replacement..
Thanks for the help.
Adam
I would have switched them around, but I guess doing what you tried works somewhat also. That way you could have been more sure that the other card was truly bad before sending it back. I hope the card your sending back is bad and everything works out...your welcome....let us know.....and good luck!

  • Satellite P100 PSPAD: Unable to update BIOS 3.8 and poor video performance

    Hello,
    I have absolute shoddy video performance on my machine as well as the fan on/off issues.
    To add to my frustrations the WinPhlash programme included in BIOS version 3.8 dumps out when trying to flash giving a PHLASHNT.SYS unable to load message with various error codes associated with it (codes 5 and 147 depending on if I run the exe as it is extracted from the ZIP, or run the extracted files independantly).
    I have checked all permissionings on the folder and I definately have full control - but still a generic "check your accounts, if you have no permissions please log in again!" message is displayed.
    any help with my BIOS issue would be apreciated.

    Hi,
    I have had the same error message on P100 PSPADE and furthermore the laptop was no longer under control, neither by keyboard or by menu impossible to switch off. I have had to unplug and to remove the battery. Then impossible to switch on.
    According to the local ASP the motherboard is KO (??) and the safest way to upgrade the bios was to boot from an USB floppy in DOS mode?
    Sounds strange but be careful.

  • Poor Video Performance in iTunes

    I have this notebook which is almost 2 years old but still doing its job pretty well except for when it comes to playing videos in iTunes. They're sloooow, stopping a few seconds and then slow again. I never get the right speed of the picture. The sounds fine but the picture is crap. And it doesn't really matter what kind of video. It will happen with the ABC World News Podcast and it will happen with a downloaded show, let's say Grey's Anatomy. Vista is new on this computer but I had the same problem when running XP on it. I have Quicktime Pro, so I use that. And guess what? In Quicktime it's just fine! Sometimes I experience temporary slowdowns, but that's rare. The funny thing is though, Quicktime works okay, iTunes doesn't. But actually (and it really hurts me to say that, believe me) I get the best performance with Windows Media Player 11. Now please somebody tell me why and how to fix this. I guess it must be an iTunes issue because if I run iTunes and don't play anything and open Quicktime at the same time (so I'm running iTunes and Quicktime at the same time) videos play good in Quicktime, slow in iTunes. And yea.... Media Player ALWAYS works the
    best...
    I've forgot to mention that purchased videos of course won't play in the Windows Media Player. So here I stick with Quicktime, which is working okay, but it could be better. I paid $30 for Pro, so I should get Pro performance. I know the notebook is not the youngest but I'm just talking about video playback. And if Microsoft can make it happen, Apple should certainly be able to.

    that is actually very true. plus the fact that h.264, even in HD, plays perfectly in media player 11. i get the feeling the fewer features a mediaplayer has, the quicker it is. i'm not a software engineer but i really have no idea why itunes is wasting so much system ressources on windows. i don't know if it's the same on the mac? i mean yea, you could argue i should get a mac. and how i would love to, but since macs aren't cheap, not even the tiny macbooks, it's out of the question for me at the moment. but i do own a video ipod and bought quicktime pro, sure all the shows i download with itunes look great on the video ipod, but not on quicktime. and i think i still deserve to get the same for my not so old notebook, right?

  • Poor Video performance when using ver 9.0.2 of Jdeveloper

    I am using the 9.0.2 version of JDeveloper under Linux Suse 8.0. Does anyone know why when I use this product ubder this operating system the screens either do not refresh quickley or completely? I am using a 16MB video card.

    I tried this test:
    drop table foo;
    create table foo (numeric number, text varchar2(2000));
    begin
      for i in 1 .. 100000 loop
        insert into foo values (i, 'the cat sat on the mat');
      end loop;
    end;
    create index fooindex on foo(text) indextype is ctxsys.context
    filter by numeric
    EXEC dbms_workload_repository.create_snapshot;
    begin
      for i in 1 .. 100000 loop
        delete from foo where numeric = i;
      end loop;
    end;
    commit;
    EXEC dbms_workload_repository.create_snapshot;
    @?/rdbms/admin/awrrpt.sqlIn the AWR report, I can see 100,000 inserts into CTXSYS.DRV$DELETE2 and 100,000 deletes from CTXSYS.DRV$SDATA_UPDATE2. On my desktop PC these take 4.06 seconds and 2.85 seconds of CPU time respectively, compared to 5.43 seconds for the delete from the $K table. Elapsed times are almost identical to CPU times.
    That doesn't seem unreasonable to me - 70 microseconds per row updated. I added "alter system flush shared pool" before starting the delete but it made very little difference. If your figures are much worse than this then perhaps we should look further into it.

  • Mdworker still using all cpu + poor video performance

    I had an older macbook 1,1 and installed a new HDD and increased the RAM to 2 GB. I did a clean install of Snow Leopard, did all the software updates, then I migrated applications and files from my old disk that was Tiger 10.4.11. I copied all of my music and pictures from an external drive onto the new HDD, so I put about 140 gb of new data on the new drive after Snow Leopard was installed.
    It's been on for a week now and mdworker is always using 40-80% of the CPU. I have force quit the process but it seems to keep coming back. I also unchecked all the boxes in the Spotlight preferences and that has not changed anything.
    According to activity monitor mdworker process had read over 15 TB before I killed it, the HDD is only 500 GB.
    How can I get this cpu hog to behave better?
    I am not sure if it is only due to the mdworker issue, but ever since the upgrade my computer can not render video about 360P resolution without freezing up. Videos I could watch before the upgrade now lock up the system. I have also found Quicktime 7 seems to run better than Quicktime 10. Can I get rid of the newer Quicktime or make 7 the default for files and streaming video?

    Reply,
    I already ran all of the diagnostics in Onyx tool, which I am pretty sure runs the same or very similar disk checks.
    Thanks for your respoonse.
    I put the HDD in privacy and now mdworker is not running. I can live with out spotlight. I read somewhere (that I can't find any more!) a way to read the logs of mdworker to see if it is getting stuck on a particular file and ending up in an infinite loop. There's no way it should take a week to index a 500 GB drive.
    Still have issues with Quicktime being very slow and stalling. Videos ran better on Tiger, both streaming off the web and files on my machine are really choppy and will freeze up with this now.
    I am very close to restoring 10.4.11 on the system and giving the SL DVD to a friend. Beginning to think this machine is just not fast enough for this OS. Even though I maxed out the RAM and have a lot of free disk space it is slower than Tiger.

  • [SOLVED] Poor 2D performance of Radeon 7200 with newest xf86-video-ati

    Today arrived new version (6.12.99) of ATI OSS driver (also new version of ati-dri 7.6, mesa 7.6 and xorg-server 1.7.1) Since that moment I'm experiencing poor 2D performance, especially in GIMP (scrooling of zoomed canvas). Also switching of virt. desktop where is bloated Java app. or fat Firefox instance result in poor render of screen (program renders by parts/semiwindows).

  • Flash video performance poor in Firefox 3 and other newer Gecko-based browsers; fails to detect mouse movement in full-s

    Regardless of configuration, I have found Flash video
    performance on Firefox 3 to be severely sub-par. Numerous visual
    lags occur throughout a typical Youtube video as it cannot seem to
    manage to maintain a steady frame rate. When in full-screen, mouse
    movement is not detected, forcing me to click in a full-screen
    Vimeo video in order to display its controls when I should have
    only needed to move the mouse. I was informed that the technical
    explanation for this is that Flash isn't triggering MouseEvents
    other than MouseEVENT.CLICK.
    In my tests, this behavior also occurred in Flashplayers 9
    and 10 as well as with recent versions of other browsers that also
    use the Gecko rendering engine, namely Camino, Flock and Songbird,
    but not in Firefox 2. I was told by a Mozilla employee that this
    issue can only be solved by Adobe.
    This has forced me to use the Safari browser as my only
    available work-around. I implore that these issues get resolved as
    quickly as possible.

    guys, im exactly experience the same issue here.. any
    solution guys? tks in advantage..

  • Poor Video Streaming.  Any tips?

    Hello everyone,
    My MacBook Pro really dosn't like treaming video.  Regardless if it's live feeds such as ESPN3 or preset videos from Yahoo/CSPAN etc.  Straeming HD content from sites such as HBO doesn't work too well either.  The only one that works well is Netflix but not always.
    I think I have a fast WiFi connection.  When I do the speed test it's alwasy in the 6-8 Mbps range and sometimes 10Mbps.  I have an Airport Express and for everything else it works well (downloading music, podcast, surfing, updates, etc).  I have the automatic graphic switiching turned off so it's always using the high preformance graphics and my flash player is up-to-date.
    Thank you so much for any help.  I really apprecate it.
    best

    Hello mikeswitzer. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    As you have already figured out poor signal strength equals poor bandwidth performance. This, of course, will be noticeable for both audio and video streaming.
    I suggest downloading a copy of iStumbler. Use iStumbler's Inspector feature (select Edit > Inspector from iStumbler's menu) to determine the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) at different points around your house, by performing a simple RF site survey. Within the Inspector, note the values for "signal" & "noise" at these locations. Start with your MacBook near the Time Capsule (TC), note the readings, and then, go to the location where you currently have the Mac Mini.
    SNR is the signal level (in dBm) minus the noise level (in dBm). For example, a signal level of -53dBm measured near an access point and typical noise level of -90dBm yields a SNR of 37dB, a healthy value for wireless LANs.
    The SNR, as measured from the MacBook, decreases as the range to the base station increases because of applicable free space loss. Also an increase in RF interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones, which increases the noise level, also decreases SNR.
    SNR Guideline
    o 40dB+ SNR = Excellent signal
    o 25dB to 40dB SNR = Very good signal
    o 15dB to 25dB SNR = Low signal
    o 10dB to 15dB SNR = Very low signal
    o 5dB to 10dB SNR = No signal
    If the SNR is 20dB+ at the Mac Mini, then you should be getting reasonable performance from your TC. If less, either try to locate the source of the Wi-Fi interference or try relocating either the TC or the Mac Mini until they are within a 20dB SNR range.
    Another option is to utilize a transceiver on the Mac Mini to try to increase the Mini's built-in AirPort antenna ability to pick up the signal from the TC. One vendor that provides these is QuickerTek.

  • HF R52-POOR VIDEO QUALITY IN LOW LIGHT

    HELLO,I'VE BEEN USING THE HF R52 FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW AND FOR THE MOST PART AM VERY HAPPY WITH IT..THE ONE ISSUE I'M HAVING IS WITH THE POOR VIDEO QUALITY IN LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS[NIGHT TIME OR INDOORS].THE RESULTS ARE "GRAINY" OR "FUZZY"..I'VE TRIED DIFFERENT SETTINGS WITH NO LUCK..WHEN I USE THE "LOW LIGHT"SETTING IT ACTUALLY SLOWS DOWN THE MOVIE LIKE ITS IN SLOW MOTION??  OUTSIDE IN THE SUNLIGHT IT LOOKS GREAT! DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS?? THANKS,ROB

    The videos on WCSN are Windows Media Video's...320x240...not very good in quaintly to start with. If you make these video larger on the screen they are going to degrade...sorry

  • IPhone 4S Poor Battery Performance SOLVED!!

    iPhone 4S Poor Battery Performance SOLVED!!
    I found the issue with the iPhone 4S battery performance.
    I bought 2 iPhone 4S models on the first day. One for my wife and one for me. The strange thing was that mine would kill the battery in 4-6 hours and ran VERY WARM to the touch. My wife's phone worked great. It was cold to the touch. She would forget to charge it at night... and the battery performance was great... even better than our prior 3GS models.
    What was the difference? I have my phone connected to Exchange for my corporate email. But exchange is not exactly the problem. The issue is in Notification Center. For some reason, I had hundreds of calendar reminders that kept refreshing on notification center. Furthermore, the reminders would flicker between the time remaining and the start time for the event at such a fast rate that it could not be read... (clearly a bug)
    What is the solution? Go to Settings>Notifications>Calendar and disable Notification Center. You can still have the "alert style" set to Banners, or Alerts and you will still receive notices about your events, but it will not BUILD a summary in the Notification Center drop down screen. This is where the BUG exists. [Oddly, this does not affect my iPad 2, but is an issue for iOS 5 on the iPhone (different builds, maybe?)]
    So, it appears that Notification Center has an endless loop in collecting the calendar events from Exchange and this is burning up our 4S batteries. Once you stop the madness from Notification Center, your iPhone 4S will perform as advertised.
    Enjoy!

  • Poor Video Quality after Streaming

    Dear all,
    We have been provided with a number of .mpg files from a
    client and we have streamed then into Flash, using the usual
    settings. When streamed however, the resulting video is of a poorer
    quality than the original file.
    Just wondering if anyone had any ideas - we are probably
    doing something wrong, but we've tried a number of various options
    when importing.
    Any advice greatly appreciated.
    The videos produced may be seen at:
    http://www.atomicwebsolutions.com/foodesign07test/reel.asp
    Many thanks
    Dave

    Hi B,
    We used - at encoding screen:
    Profile - Custom
    Video Codec - tried On2 and Spark
    Quality - High
    Frame Rate - Same as Source
    Key Frame Placement - Automatic
    We used similar settings for .WMV files in the past and the
    video quality was fine, but with .MPG files, the resulting quality
    is much less than the original.
    Best wishes

  • Poor video from iMovie 11 imported from supported Sony HD camcorder

    Poor video from iMovie 11 imported from supported Sony HD camcorder
    Latest model New iMac 27 " screen 3.4 ghz intel core I7, 12 GB of memory running Mac OS X version 10.7.4
    Imovie 11 version 9.0.7
    New Sony hd camcorder model HDR560V, 64 gigs of internal flash memory, recording at highest quality hd settings.
    Transfer is via USB.
    Video in camcorder screen is perfect, same video connected directly from camera to a monitor is perfect.  Also seems to be ok when importing into a Mac Book pro.
    Import into the iMac using  iMovie 11and played back full screen on the iMac has the look of  soft VHS tape, not tack sharp and pronounced video lag when panning or when a subject moves across the screen.  Has anyone else resolved a similar issue? Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I  paid for 3 years of Apple protection care but Genius bar experts at local Apple store are stumped.
    thanks

    I'm sorry, I didn't know Imovie has it's own Forum- it's not listed here. Looks like I need an adapter for memory card, because I have an older Mac which doesn't have a slot for the card.

  • Garbage in text and dots in video Windows 10

    Problem with Video after installing Windows 10. I also saw this occur when intalled updated drivers in Windows 8.1 back in December. The text get jumbled and turns to garbage. Dots in video particularly in Microsoft Edge. or while displaying items on the desktop or other windows screens (which basically use MS Edge much like IE and WIndows 8.1). Chrome browser seems to work alot better with less issues but still shows green dots in videos thumb nails, or advertisements etc. I also noticed I can stream NetFlix via APP  and the video works fine. I tried removing the Intel HD Graphics 4600 driver within Driver Manager, and then reboot but problem continues. Adjusted text size to 100 % in settings. We attempted to use HP recovery to install an older driver. All these items didn't seem to help.  I don't think I am able to revert back to the old driver I used before, since I don't see any options on HP website to download older versions.  HP support did make an attempt to fixt he issue, and I have a ticket open.

    This is a good workaround for curing your camera recognition problem with FCP (if that's what it is):
    First, check that your Easy Setup / Timeline / Camera or Deck Settings are all exactly the same, then making sure your camera or deck is in VTR mode, try to capture again.
    FCP uses a different form of QT than iMovie for capturing, so if the camera works in iMovie (or if it's listed in System Profiler) but not FCP, it obviously means your Mac can see the VTR but FCP can't, so you need to do this QuickTime fix.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852
    Follow the instructions carefully and you should have things running in no time - it's quite safe but you must Trash the Receipts AND re-install QT from the link provided.
    If the Camera / Deck isn't recognised by iMovie or System Profiler, try resetting the Firewire Bus . . . Turn off the Mac and disconnect the power and all Firewire cables. Leave it for 30 mins then connect back up.
    Still not working? Try a different Firewire cable.
    Failing all this, try resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit). The method varies from machine to machine, so visit the Apple site and search for it in support.
    Don't use iMovie for capturing - it doesn't give you a timecode and that's very important.
    Let us know how you get on!

  • Strong wifi, poor video streaming???

    Hi,
    My video streaming on apps like FoxNow and SyFy keeps freezing and often quits to the home section.
    The WiFi signal is strong and yet it can only play a few minutes before it freezes again.
    Streaming is just fine on my MacBook Air from individual TV sites - Hulu, Fox, etc.
    The apps for Fox, The CW and SyFy are the worst while NBC and HBO playback just fine.
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers.
