NX7600GT Diamond Plus Questions

Hey Everyone,
My questions today are about the  NX7600GT Diamond Plus video card. I am thinking about building a Home Theater PC and I was looking at the MSI 7600GT Diamond Plus card, because of the HDMI port.  Does this port besides carrying video carry sound as well? if so what kind is it, 2 CH, Digital, etc.? If it doesn't any recommends on cards that will carry very good sound quality out?  Also, are there any benefits to having two of these cards instead of one, other then having two 7600 GTs for playing games?  Finally, if I play a DVD on my computer(which is encrypted) and run the HDMI cable from the card to a DVD player/recorder, will I be able to record the movie or will copyright bs problems occur?  Sry for all the noob questions, but I am new to the HTPC arena.
Thanks

Hello
I currently own this card and might be able to answer your questions.
This card will send digital S/PDIF sound through the hdmi port if your motherboard or sound card has spdif cababilities.  This can be done one of two ways.  Option A:  If you have an internal header off of your mobo/soundcard you can use the supplied internal spdif cable.  Option B:  If you don't have an internal header (I don't and use this method) you can use the supplied RCA pass-through cable conecting the RCA end to your spdif out and the other end to the VGA.  Aside from being able to SLI them and increase the performance of some programs there is no advantage to having two as you will only be able to use the ports on one.
I'm not entirely sure about being able to copy a movie.  I wasn't aware that there were any DVD recorders with HDMI inputs on the market.  If you have a standard definition DVD (not Blue-ray or HD-DVD) you probably shouldn't run into any copyright problems.  However I've found that many DVDs will refuse to play on my computer if a TV out port is activated, you may or may not run into this with the HDMI port.  This isn't card specific, from talking with tech support this is apparently present on all nvidia 7-series cards.
Overall I was really impressed with how this card handled the digital sound, but was not impressed with the quality of the HDMI video signal.  The signal was being overscanned, and looked horrible in comparison to the analogue signal from my card.  This is really no surprise considering this is the first ever HDMI card.  Theres always going to be bugs at first.  If you're planning on building an HTPC I would suggest using the plain old RGB (15 pin analogue) if your HDTV has the input (most do).  You won't run into any DRM restrictions using this method and the quality difference (versus DVI) is hardly, if at all, noticable on today's HDTVs and projectors.

  • Losing signal to TV – NX7600GT Diamond Plus

I hope somebody in here can help me.
I got my new GFX a month ago, which is a NX7600GT Diamond Plus – chosen because it has a HDMI port.
Now I’m trying to get card working with both my monitor and TV, which is not going according to plans. I’m using the newest NVIDIA driver for Vista Home Premium that has found my TV ones, but still no picture on the TV. When trying again I can’t get NVIDIA to find my TV at all.
Actual it can get the TV to show the boot of the computer, but when Windows takes over the TV loses the signal.
Why can’t the TV be found and why can it not display the signal from the GFX card?
    Looking forward hearing from you.
    JB:-)

Does it work when using XP?
    Could be a Vista problem.
The machine I'm using now is newly build, and have nothing else then Vista installed on it - so no Win XP try.
Anyway it can not be Vista, because MSI has certified the card to Vista, so it have to be something else.

  • K8N Diamond Plus Questions?

I have a some questions about my K8N Diamond Plus. I recently replaced a K8N Neo Nforce 3 board and some other parts as well. The machine has been working very well with this new board so far but there are a few issues I’d like to get resolved.
    1. Does anyone know if there is a new BIOS out for this board? I have that problem where at start up it shows that I have a new card in one of my PCI slots even though I do not….it does’nt seem to hurt the machine at all it’s just annoying….i’m wondering if they released a BIOS that corrected that?
    2. On my old board I overclocked the machine with no problems at all. Now I’m no expert at over clocking but I do like to dable a little and last time I did I had no problems. This board seems like it will over clock well so I went and got better RAM….i just received some Corsair XMS 2GB DDR 400. I went into the Cell Menu to look at the options for the RAM and saw much, much more then I had on my old Neo board.
I know I need to adjust the CAS Latency, RAS# to CAS# delay, Min RAS# Active Time and the Row Precharge Time for this RAM….people have been saying that their motherboards do not detect the correct timings for this RAM (2.5-3-3-6) so you need to adjust it Manually…along with uping the Voltage to 2.7.
My question is…..do I need to worry about any other options under the MCT Timing Mode besides the 4 I mentioned above? Also…I could’nt seem to adjust the Voltage for the RAM? Every time I high lighted it and hit enter nothing would pop up for me to adjust (and it is white not gray like some things are)….is there something I’m missing that I need to shut off in order to access it???
Thanks ahead of time for anyone that can provide me with some answers.

I have not been able to find any information on those other settings.  It is my current project and I am not having a great amount of success.
The defaults for them do not seam to have any adverse effect on stability the system in my signature is my MS-7220 system at FSB=225, CPU multiplier of 12, Memory/FSB =1/1 system is quite stabile if I am not playing with the BIOS settings.
I am working on, some major some minor these current problems.  Watch out for number three it will flat blow your BIOS Parameters.  It happens on my system every time, but I not been able to find any body that is will to trash the BIOS to verify it, so I can be sure it is a real BIOS problem or my system.  “MCP Timing Mode” use to do the same thing, that where the V1.16 BIOS version came form MSI Tech Support sent my that one to fix the problem and this one looks to be the same.
    1.   First boot screen the line “DRAM = 400 MHz, Dual-Channel.” It reads 400 MHz do matter what that actual memory transfer rate actually is.
    2.   Cell Menu parameter “Adjust DDR Voltage (V)”, has two problems (1) the BIOS default voltage is outside the manufacture specification for normal operating range.  BOIS default is 2.65V and manufacture states the Memory Module should be operated between 2.7V minimum and 2.9V maximum.  (2) The voltage cannot be set to the manufactures minimum voltage of 2.7V.  Starting with the BIOS default voltage of 2.65V and you press “+” key once and voltage jumps to 2.75V, press the “-“ key and the voltage jumps back to BIOS default of 2.65V.
    3.   Cell Menu>Memory Configuration>User Config Mode parameter, when set to “Manual” and all of the “User Config Mode” sub-parameters left at BIOS default.  The system will not boot.  When I say will not boot I mean Blank Screen, no beeps, no drive activity, just case and motherboard fans come on.
    4.   Menu “CPU Frequency Configuration”, parameter Adjust CPU VID.   CPU correct voltage tracks the set by about 0.03V high.  Example: if Adjust CPU VID to 1.375V and actual vCore voltage is about 1.405 Volts.  The offset is maintained through the voltage adjustment range of the current CPU.

When submitting a problem, include a complete list of your system components; include part numbers, all Power Supply Voltages, and their output ratings.  It is almost impossible to estimate what your problem is without knowing something about it.

  • NX7600GT Diamond Plus and fan speed with Dual Core Center

I just got a NX 7600GT Diamond Plus for my HTPC. I noted that Riva Tuner and other utilities are not able to control the fan speed of the video card. The only way one can control the fan speed is via Dual Core Center and 3D Core Cell. The problem is that the default setting for fan speed on Dual Core Center is too high and clearly audible. How can I get Dual Core Center to start with user defined presets during windows start-up/boot-up ?
What I want to do is to put the fan into 'SILENT' mode automatically during Dual Core Center start-up. Any ideas / suggestions ?

Quote from: BOSSKILLER on 17-January-07, 00:44:11
well no need to edit manually, MSI provided everythink in easy way from core center.
select advanced mode, create your custom profile pickup your desired settings,(setup maximum FAN RPM via buttons) and save it to custom profile.
suggest you to read help section from program.
So the custom profile is automatically loaded every time DualCoreCenter starts up ? Maybe there is something wrong with my install of DCC, I cannot get it to load custom profiles automatically upon startup. I can save the changes to say "User Profile 1" but the profile active on startup always is the "default" profile ...

  • Diamond plus question

Hello all, i was wondering if the MSI Diamond plus needs amplified audio or can i just you regular speakers....
I ask because if i use normal speakers i get almost no sound. If i use amplified 5.1, i get good sound.
also, my computer doesnt want to use my USB headset after the first time i use it

Go into start menu all programs, accessories, audio devices and play around with the settings use ceative instead of windows default! I had the same experience when I first go my board up and running!!!!  No you dont need 5.1 I only use 2  cyber acoustic speakers and they thump considering I only spent $30.00  the onboard audio is awesome you just have to configure it as suggested , also if you use the creative media source player in conjuntion with the onboard the sound quality is superb!!!

  • New K8N diamond plus questions please help.

Hi all well i am new to this msi site and am thinking of buying the new MSI K8N Diamond plus motherboard, the problem i have is that i have been a fan of ASUS and have had there last 3 SLI motherboards of which i have not been happy with.
Well i am totaly into overclocking and have an Opteron 165, balistix ram, 600w Enermax PSU, 2x Gainward 6800gt's,
what i am looking for is a motherboard that does what i says it will do, yes the asus a8n32 was a great motherboard but has a limitation on the voltage if useing the new E4-E6 stepping cores of which would only give a max voltage of 1.58v of which the asus spec said 1.76v.
What i am asking you chaps is is this a great motherboard, can you play with all the coms settings without any limitation, or do you think that the DFI motherboard is better.
If you can let me have some info on this motherboard that would be great, as i can not seam to get any reply from MSI about some information.
what i am looking for is what is the max CPU voltage and is there any limitation on it for some chips.
what is the max voltage for the ram
what is the max voltage for the chipset.
any help on this would be great.

Quote from: Stick on 23-February-06, 17:46:08
there is no mobo that alows 4V for the memory. i think the DFI goes up to 3.4V and you can use a DDR Booster to get to 3.8V. the only mobo that is capable to pass 3.3V is the DFI since you can have the choice to select from which rail the memory will be powered (the 3.3V or the 5V). you don't have that option in any other mobo.
Hi thanks for the mail but i have just copied this from msi about this motherboard, see below.
    1.Adjust CPU FSB Frequency:
You can adjust the desired "CPU FSB Frequency" by using "+,-" key. The default value of AMD Athlon™64 is 200MHz. The maximum value is 450MHz.
    2.AMD Overclocking Configuration (CPU Ratio):
If the CPU is Athlon™64 FX series, the ratio range is from 4 to 25.
If the CPU is Athlon™64 series, the ratio should be set according to its model number. For example, the ratio range of 3000+ is from 4 to 9, and the 3200+ is from 4 to 10.
    3.Adjust Extra CPU Voltage:
This is for adjusting CPU voltage while overclocking. Following the CPU default value, the maximum is 1.8V. The interval is 0.05V.
    4.Adjust DDR Memory frequency:
The Memclock is the major part which has four different frequencies to match many kinds overclocking memory modules. The memory frequency settings includes DRAM/FSB=1/2, 2/3, 5/6, 1/1.
    5.DDR Memory Voltage:
This is for adjusting memory voltage while overclocking. K8N Diamond Plus has a special design. We use jump to distinguish two level arrangement of voltage. In this way it can get maximum 4.1V for overclocking modules. As you can see the below pictures, the left one is the standard mode when jump hat is located at the top postion. The default value is 2.5V, and the maximum is 3.2V. The interval is 0.05V. As the right one, it is overclocking mode when jump hat is located at the under postion. The default value is 3.2V, and the maximum is 4.1V. The interval is 0.05V.
What i am asking is there any limitation on the cpu voltage like the asus a8n32 as this had a max voltage of 1.58v due to it having a limit put on it by recomendation of amd.

  • MSI K8N Diamond Plus Question

Will the ThermalRight XP-90C Heatsink and 92mm fan work with this board?  Thermalright's web site does not say anyything but I can't help but wounder if it will fit with that fanless cooler on the MOBO.
    Thanks

I've got an XP-90 installed and there is plenty of room.   Plenty of airflow also.   I'm at a constant 31-36 celsius, so no worries on the CPU.  This cooler is large, I had it on an Asus A8V deluxe, an Abit AN8 SLI and now on the MSI K8N Diamond Plus, and its basically located on the same place regardless of mobo, so I wouldnt worry too much about it.
I did'nt mean that it has a massive effect on the temps, although comparing your rig to my last (AN8 Ultra, 3700 @ 2.7) my temps never went above 32'c idle and 44'c loaded!!
I meant that the airflow in my case struggles a little because the exhaust fan is right next to the hs and I cannot operate it the other way round due to my ram hs being so bloody large <damn you Corsair!!>
    Sorry if I caused confusion!!

  • NX7600GT Diamond Plus - Dual Monitor Problem

    Hi Folks
I have the above card on XP SP3 running the latest nvidia drivers - never had MSI drivers on this installation.  Both monitors have the correct drivers installed.
I just bought a lovely 24" HDMI monitor and was hoping to have it running with my existing DVI LCD monitor.
The 24" is connected by the HDMI cable, 19" LCD is on the DVI connection.
Thing is I cannot get an extended desktop option (I presume this is Dualview in nVidia speak).  It just doesn't exist for me!  The only thing I can manage is a Clone view, or single display.
I've tried running the dual display wizard and setting to force TV detection thing, but nothing seems to give me the extend desktop or dualview option.
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong please.  I've had a search of these forums and the net and I can't find anyone having the same problems!
    Thanks for any help
    Balders
edit...Sorry for stating the bleeding obvious, but for anyone who doesn't know (it's pretty old) this is the card with only one DVI output and one HDMI output.

    Well!
Just to let you know I did exactly the same thing as I did last night, except this time it worked!
God knows!  Must have been one of them there gremlins!

  • MSI Diamond Plus questions galore

    1) my 2 1 gig sticks are not showing up at ddr 400 acording to cpu z. How do i change this in bios, I know that sometimes this bios is a bit buggy. It gives me the option of cas 2. 2.5 3.0 Cpuz says 3.0 would put me at ddr 400.  I have set the 1:1 in bios but it still does not show the correct thing. unless it me.
2 How do i update my bios, i am on xp 64 bit and it the msi install disk says it is not compatable with this mb. The bios link on msi's page is down even then they seem to only have a version for 2000/xp not xppro64 bit
    3) for some dumb reason i can not get my 2nd monitor to show up. They both work. I've switched back and forth a 100 times now. Before i just used nvids wizard. but for some reason the wizard is skipping over detecting a 2nd monitor. For reference i am running two 7800 gt's in sli. I have run through Xp's tutorials half a dozen times and i still can not get it to recognize the 2nd monitor? what could this be from.
    4) this wireless g card i have is not working. Well more specifically the drivers install 25% and croak. it just hangs. Is this an issue with xp64 compatability or is it an issue with the guy typing this out.

This line exists in all HD-DVD movies played back with PowerDVD Ultra.
It is not possible it comes from my projector, since this line does not exist with an ATI card.
It is visible all the time.
It is always the last bottom line.

  • K8N DIAMOND PLUS RAID 0+1 Question

I have K8N Diamond Plus due tomorrow as the base for the new system I am building.  In addition I have 4 Western Digital 320GB SATA drives with 16MB buffers on the way to serve as my storage.  My question is this, I would like to set the drives up in a bootable RAID 0+1 array.  In fact I would like to have the ability to multi-boot from the array.  Is this possible?  If so, it would be greatly appreciated to hear recommendations on partioning the array.  I would like to dual boot for sure and possibly add a third OS.
    Thank you in advance,
    --Sarge

like syar said, it will show up just as one harddrive on your machine. that means that you can do with it whatever you are able to do with 1 harddrive: partition, multi-boot etc. since this is your first 0+1 array, i wish you good luck. you're gonna have fun with it, i know i did with my first array (took me 4 hours to figure out what's what, but hey, there wasn't any MSI forum at that time  )

  • K8N Diamond Plus- bios freeze & question about temp/voltage monitor

A weird issue I had right after I setup my mobo last night was that I could not access the "PC Health" portion of the bios.  If I tried selecting it, it would just freeze.  Is this a known issue?  I'm hoping a bios update may solve this one.  Does anyone know anything about this?

Well I was mostly just asking if this was a known issue, so I guess "no" is all the answer I need...  Now, what would be my best solution?  I am assuming bios update, is there anything else that I should consider?
But if it helps, as I said its a brand new build, so I'm running the default bios. 1.00.  My other components are:  Silverstone Zeus 560w, 2GB of G.Skill pc4000, Raptor 74gb, 7900gtx, Opteron 165.
Also, since my other thread was locked (I figured seperating two different topics would make it easier for people to respond to specific questions, I apologize,) here's my other question pasted:
"I just set up my new system with this motherboard (K8N Diamond Plus,) an Opteron 165, Scythe Mine heatsink, and a Silverstone Zeus 560w. Its these components that lead to my question-
I am getting temps of about 31C idle, 41C load.  Nice temps yes, but I'm not sure how accurate those are.  That means that it is idling at 86F in a room that was probably in the high 70's, maybe 80.  Seems a little too good to be true, but then again, I am used to Intel's furnace-like temps
Its the voltage reading that has me a bit more concerned though.  Corecenter is reading my +5v as 5.36v, and my +12v as 12.28v.  The +3.3v is reading about spot-on at 3.33v.  I'm hoping that someone else who has this motherboard can tell me this- are the readings in Corecenter for this motherboard generally accurate, and should I be concerned about this?"
Thanks for any help you can give.  No sig yet because I just registered an hour ago, I'll work on it.
