NY Times iPad app refuses to update

I have the original iPad running iOS 4.3 and continue to have a problem with getting the paid NY Times application to update. It often gets hung up with the spinning gear and never updates. Other times it says it's update but still displays the previous day's news. The only way to fix it seems to be either to cycle my iPad OR to delete the app and reinstall it.
Yes, I'm logged in with a valid, paid account, and yes, everything else on my iPad works flawlessly. Is anyone else having this problem? Has anyone figured out how to escalate this to the NYT to get their attention, especially since now this is a paid application.

I had similar problems. I think that the problem is that their new system for providing access to subscribers and limiting it for others has been shaky.
Yesterday or the day before I reached a point where I couldn't do anything. But a dialog popped up which asked questions that apparently was enough to prove that I have a paper subscription. And then things worked again. Also there is a new version of the app which may be related to their new $ model.
good luck,

  • HT1689 Ipad "apps" will not update (was 14 items, now 9).  Ipad used extensively in Europe & UK for a month.  Condition has existed since our return to Canada.  Followed steps as listed in Support to no avail?

Help with multiple Ipad app updates.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like two (or more) different Apple ID's were used when Apps were purchased and originally downloaded and installed.
Another possibility might be that maybe some Apps were downloaded in other countries during your travels, and might not be authorized by the developer or by Apple for use in locations other than the country of origin.
To change the active Apple ID, navigate to Settings, Store, and touch the active Apple ID shown. Then Sign Out, and sign in with the other Apple ID(s). Now go to Apps, and Check for Updates. Once updates are installed, you can again sign out, and sign back in with the other Apple ID used most often.
My wife and I share her iPad. Initially I downloaded the apps I wanted to use with my Apple ID, and 'her' apps using her Apple ID. That system works pretty well, except for updates. To update everything installed, I had to log in with one Apple ID, download updates, and then log in with the other Apple ID to finish.
It wasn't a problem when there were only 10 or 15 apps, for each of us, updated infrequently. When it reached more than 100 apps for each of us, it became inconvenient to do the dual updates.
When I upgraded her iPad to iOS 5.1.1, I deleted most of 'my' apps (most were free anyway), and reinstalled only 'her' apps. Then I re-downloaded most of my free apps from the App store, this time using her Apple ID, to make future app updates easier.

  • IPad apps will not update from the App Store

I have apps that need to be updated from the App Store but when I select the "Update" icon, all it does is open the app rather than update it.
i Have tried turning off the iPad and turning back on...doesn't work.
I havent downloaded iOS 8.1 because I know people have experienced issues with it. I have an iPad 2.  Help please!!

    I had this problem
I hit the power button and the round button at the same time and held it until it rebooted
You get the black screen and the apple logo
When that was done I want to the app and update screen and I was able to update my apps
I suggest when you update stay on that screen until they all update
I find it sometimes get stuck updating when I leave the screen as they are updating and do other things, but I could be wrong. It just seems to me that is when it happens.
The reboot works and don't worry you don't lose anything when u reboot it's like shutting down a computer and powering it back up. Everything you had before will still be there.

  • IPad app store software update problem

My iPad app store icon indicates I need software updated.  When I go to the app store all screens are working fine except the update software screen, which is blank.  The "Updates" and "Search Store" bar is still at the top, as is the "featured" "top charts" "genius" "purchased" and "updates" bar at the bottom.  I can easily navigate between the screens.  But on this update page between the top and bottom is all white.  I've tried shutting on and off, and tried resetting the iPad but neither option works.

    Quick workaround,
    App store
    Purchased.
Go through all apps and hit update on the apps that offer where it should say open or show the icloud icon
    Just worked for me

  • None of my 119 iPad app's has updated in 6 days, is there a problem?

Previously, never more than 2 days, if that, went by w/o an update.
    Thanks, Don

    OK
    After the following steps :
    Authorize computer
Transfer App's from iPad to computer
    Backup
    Sync
I got both the computer and my iPad to have all my App's.
At this point, I can ask both iTunes and the iPad for any new updates and get the same negative reply.
I called Apple tech support and got little except for an argument that the updates were random. Of course I knew that, and it did nothing to explain why 8 straight days of no updates would follow 4 months in which no more than 2 consecutive days of no updates ever occurred.
But the call may have been worthwhile anyway as I finally got an update within about 6 hours. It shows up in both iTunes and on the iPad.
    Thanks, Don

  • App refuses to update (or re-download after deletion)!

    Soulver refuses to update!
I have a current-gen Mac mini with 16Gb RAM and plenty of free disk space, running 10.8.5. Some screenshots:
    https://db.tt/UlGF2UfL
    https://db.tt/sQ5g04ht
    https://db.tt/yfUiDwcs
From within Launchpad I selected Soulver and deleted it, then returned to the App Store. Unfortunately, I can't download the app either!

Same problem here. IMDB, TWC (weather app) Goodreader… Started this morning, out of the blue.
After deleting IMDB (hoping to reinstall), that app cannot be installed again! Trying to, gets you the same “Update unavailable” error.
Also, the problematic apps are not listed in my “Purchased” list (which is the real problem I think).
I also tried through iTunes. Same problem.
Can someone confirm that the problem apps are not showing in your purchased list?
I don’t know if it’s on Apple’s side (in which case it will get fixed) or on my side (meaning I will have to do something).
(I contacted Apple, waiting for reply.)

  • New Yourk Times iPad App

The New York Times app in the App store is not the app demoed at the iPad intro. The intro app had the full times with the crossword puzzle embedded and one subscribed to it. It was to debut on April 3. However, the one available is called the "Editors Edition." Does any one know what's going on?
    Thanks

  • Ipad apps will not update

My apps stopped updating last Sunday.  I tried everything I know, including resetting the iPad.  Any suggestions?

OK this makes zero sense but do any of you have the WSJ app?
See this:  Why can't I download or update apps on iPad running iOS 8
Amazing as it sounds, deleting the WSJ app (even though it wasn't needing an update) fixed my problems and the apps all started updating after a hard reset (reboot).

  • HT5278 My iPad 2 refuses to update to new software.

For some reason my iPad 2 froze during update and required manual shutdown. Now iPad 2 is "unable to install update"

Reboot your iPad, quit iTunes - if you were using the cable to update the iOS and restart your computer and try again.
If you were trying to update via WiFi, try with the cable - but realize that you will be downloading a much, much larger file than you do when you update over the air. If you try again with iTunes, temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus software first. Those can cause problems when you try to update.

  • Ipad apps unable to update

    Hi,
For the past couple of weeks I've had 23 updates to apps I've unable to update, I select 'update' and the spinning circle shows for a few seconds but then the update button reappears and nothings happened.
I thought it was because I hadn't upgraded to iOS7.1 but I upgraded that today but the problem still remains, I have also tried signing out my iTunes account, restarting and signing back in but with no success. I don't want to restore settings since I'm not sure weather it will interfere with my apps or games.
I see a lot of people having similar problems but with no fixes, also other people seem to have more of the 'waiting' problem, mine do not even begin to update.
Does anyone know what this could be?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • Startup time iPad apps?

    Hello everyone,
Can you please share your startup time of your iPad applications.
Our app (Calculator) is taking around 3-5 seconds to load and it seems that people are complaining about it.
You can try the free version here:
    http://itunes.apple.com/app/calculator-x-free/id426007025?mt=8
The paid one is taking a bit longer than the free one 'cos it has skins that we are loading on request only.
If someone have an idea of the startup time optimization please share it
    All the best,
    Tsvete

You can try a reset and try quitting all apps as well. Very few apps actually run in the background - but when you are seeking answers for an issue like this - try anything that you think might help.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
In order to quit or close apps - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • IPad app will not update

There is an Adobe Revel app update that I have tried to update twice and keep getting the error message "can't update at this time". Is there a problem or should I just keep trying.
    Thanks
    CIndy

    Hi CGrohs,
This is Ian from the revel team. We are experiencing an issue with this version that we are trying to resolve with Apple as soon as possible. Thank you for reporting this though. We are so sorry for the inconvenience. In the meantime if you are trying to access your photos you can do so at adoberevel.com.

  • I lost all of my iPad apps when I updated the software.

I just updated the software on my iPad and all of my apps are now gone. I checked my purchased apps on the iTunes store and the only app on there is facebook, but I had plenty of other apps as well, some of which I paid for. When I clicked update it said backing up iPad, so I dont know why they are missing.

    pat86 wrote:
I definitely didnt unplug it before the step was complete, it was done with the update.
Yes, it was done with the update, but at this point, iTunes has not yet restored the apps. Contact iTunes Support, tell them all of your Apple IDs, and see if they can see your purchase history. Contact them at http://apple.com/support/itunes/contact/

  • HT1338 My iPad is refusing to update to iOS 6.1.3, as its not giving me the option of iOS 7, haven't updated my iPad in a while

It's telling me that the update cannot go on as there is not Internet connection, which is false as my 3G is on as well as my wifi. Pls help

Connect your iPad to your Mac with a USB cable. Temporarily turn off your 3G radio and perform the update via Wi-Fi. If you have an iPad 1, you will be stuck on IOS 5.1.1.
You may need to update the version of iTunes on your computer if you haven't done so recently.

  • After trying recommended fixes, iPad apps still do not update

I am having an issue where my iPad apps do not update. I go to the app store, select update all, and enter my password. The black lines appear under the appropriate apps, but stay black. New apps also do not download. My network connection appears to be fine. This happened another time a month or so ago and I had to completely reset my iPad to fix it. Since this is becoming common, I do not want to have to keep starting from scratch for the fix. I have looked at many recommendations online and have tried them. Here is what I have unsuccessfully tried:
I signed out of the store on my iPad, restarted and signed back in.
    I reset the settings.
I updated and synced my apps from iTunes on my computer.
I updated to the latest version of iTunes.
If someone could provide a permanent fix, I would appreciate it. I would prefer not to have to completely reset my iPad once a month.

    Try this:
Restart the iPad by holding down on the Sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut Off. To power up hold the Sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time (for about 10-15 seconds) until the Apple logo appears (ignore the red slider), then let go of the buttons.
Do any of the app icons say Waiting. If so, tap on an app icon that says Waiting.
