NYT video Podcasts??  Crash!!!!

I'm using an Ipod Touch second generation firmware2.2 and current New York Times Videos crashes my Touch and causes it to reboot. All the other fifteen non NYT video podcasts I download work fine. Is this just my particular Touch or does the New York Times have a problem? Can you duplicate my experience?
Thanks

January 30, 2009. Still doing it! Is the New York Times grossly deaf when it comes to listening and fixing users problems. Simply Ming and Morningstar have the save problems and seemingly the same deafness. Rowdy Racing Video Podcasts has a similar problem but unlike the above group the Ipod Touch will not sync to their video podcasts.

  • Video podcasts crashing MBP? Why so?

System: MBP 2.4GHz with Tiger v10.4.11 and the latest iTunes 7.6.1 and QuickTime 7.4.1
All media are stored on an external FW SATA HD.
Problem: Playing most video podcasts crash or freeze my MBP! Doesn't happen to music videos, TV shows and movies. Why is that so? Driving me nuts! Strangely, no issue with a Leopard system.
Tried: Reinstall iTunes, QuickTime and apply Mac OS X v10.4.11 combo update. Repair permission and run maintenance. The problem still persists.
    HELP?!

I've been researching this problem since February and still haven't found a fix. A similar problem has been reported by people in Second Life.
    I noticed in my case:
    - if I'm looking at the video podcast in the album artwork window there isn't a problem
    - if open it in a separate window and don't move my cursor over that window, I'm fine
    - if I move my cursor rapidly over the window and don't leave the cursor over it, it will freeze the video for about 20 seconds and then start again
    - if I move my cursor over the window and leave it there it, it will lock up the system and I can't Force Quit or do anything else but a cold boot (if I was hearing sound it will continue repeating the last sound until I power down).
So far what it looked like was a video driver issue. Something like the GeForce not handling Open GL or maybe a problem when it has to overlay the video play control on top of the video window.
This is my first Mac and I was very proud of its resilience but with this bug, I'm afraid to let people touch the thing and have them find out how easy it is to lock up the system.
So stmidnite, have you noticed that this happens only with video podcasts that are tagged as new? Does it happen even when your cursor isn't over the video window?

  • Video Podcast crashing

hi everybody. I downloaded the iTunes 9, and started watching a couple of the video podcasts i subscribe to. the problem is after about 10 min of runtime the video freezes and only the audio continues. if i scroll with the guide to a later time i can skip that part, but after a short while it freezes again. i had this problem with the Tekzilla podcast in the previous iTunes version, so i though it was a problem only for Tekzilla podcasts, but then watching a TRS podcast the same thing happened!
has anyone had the same happen?
Is there any fix for this or an update?

correction: even when just scrolling through the video with the guide, iTunes still crashes!!

  • 30 gig video, podcasts crash the ipod with iTunes 7.0.1

has anyone had their ipod crash only when playing podcasts? short podcasts are fine, but 50 minute or more, crash and restart the ipod. playing music is fine.

I have noticed two things with my 30 gig Video Ipod since i updated the software thru iTunes 7. First all my podcasts syncs that are happening with Album artwork are crashing the iPod and making it restart and the second is that it has also affected some songs albeit selectively. I tried turning the album artwork off and only once did one of the five podcasts i downloaded did work!
All the Podcasts or most of the ones that I had downloaded before iTunes 7 updater for iPod do tend to work but there is no pattern.
The reason I love apple and my iPod is the sheer magic of podcasts that are my companion and daily dose of caffeine en route to work...and I hate to get any glitches.
Can somebody walk through the step by step procedure to correct this or does one wait for another update from Apple?

  • Hi.  Ever since I downloaded the last itunes and quicktime update (a week or so ago), I can't access any video podcasts or movies I have stored in itunes.  iTunes keeps crashing and telling me I have a quicktime error.  Do I uninstall quicktime? or?

Hi .  Ever since I downloaded the last itunes and quicktime update ( a week or so ago), I can't access any movies or video podcasts i have store in itunes on my pc (vista).  iTunes crashes and my error reports tell me it is a quicktime error.  Do i uninstall and reinstall quicktime, or completely uninstall itunes and reinstall it -- if so, what will i lose?  Help, please!

  • Itunes/quicktime crashes when trying to play video podcasts and 3GP files

    Hello all,
I've searched these forums and didn't see anything that might help me, so if know of any solutions posted already, please let me know. I have an HP laptop(AMD Turion 64 X2 2.0 GB processor, 2 GB or RAM) running Windows Vista Home Premium. I used to be able to play 3GP files at one time with Quicktime, but now I cannot. Then, the other day I tried to play a video podcast and it starts to play, then says, "Itunes has stopped working". Quicktime does the same thing with 3GP files. This was before my update to Itunes 8.0. It happpened with Itunes 7.5.11.1 or whatever the last version was. It obviously does the same thing with Itunes 8. I've tried completely uninstalling Itunes and quicktime, then reinstalling them both and I still have the same problem. Just a note: I tried playing the video podcast via Windows Media Playey, and it worked fine, except for no audio(I don't think WMP has AAC support) so I think something is conflicting between Itunes and my computer. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • IWeb video Podcast won't play music on PC and crash iTunes.

I used iMovie to make a picture slideshow and added a mp3 file I got from a CD I own. I shared the slideshow to iWeb as a podcast with iLife06 and it built a page for it on my .Mac account web page. I published it and it went to the server flawlessly. I subscribed to the podcast on my Mac computer and it came into my playlist and played great. The problem came when I went to the website on my IBM PC. I at one time used it to hold the music for my iPod. I subscribed to the podcast, downloaded the slideshow to iTunes, and when I tried to play it on the PC I got a weird noise that would not stop. I had to control Alt Del to get it to stop. I am running the latest version of iTunes on both computers.

ensure that you are navigating to the video
correctly. The correct path to a video podcast on a
    5th gen ipod is /videos/video podcasts/*insert
podcast here*. I assume that you are attempting to
    access the podcasts via /music/podcasts/*insert
podcast here*. If you are accessing the podcasts
through the music menu, the podcast will show up, but
only the audio will play. If you access it through
the video menu, both the audio and the video should
    work.

  • IPad Video App crashing

I just sync'd the movies in my itunes with the ipad and now whenever I tried to open the movies app, the screen will go black as if trying to load the app and then drop back to the home screen after a couple of seconds. I removed all videos and tried it again with the same result. It appears that the app has become completely broken.
    Anyone else have this happen?

fixed without a restore... but dont know exactly how.
    what was done
    1) i had removed all music/videos/podcasts so nothing showed up in ipod application - still crashes every time (had done several device restarts to see if helped already)
    2) i opened up the video application and that was ok - did not crash but of course nothing there
    3) i downloaded a free podcast video on the ipad
    4) opened the video in the video application - not the ipod
    5) tried opening the ipod app and it worked - i could see my one file and play from there too...
    6) resynced with itunes for just my podcasts and they now work

  • Apple Podcast crashes iPod Classic

I've had a few problems with some video podcasts not working properly but I've normally put them down to third party software generating the podcast not being configured correctly and creating a corrupted video file. However my recent issue has brought new concern as to what is going on with my iPod classic.
The recent Apple Quick Tip of the Week - Tip 45: Searching the Dictionary, causes my iPod classic to reset. It's not just a occasional problem but happens everytime I run that file and exactly at the same spot each time.
    iPod Classic configuration:
    160GB version
    Serial Number: 8M7379DXYMX
    Model: MB150
    Version: 1.1.1 Mac
Previously seen issues with cut outs and hangs with video podcasts from NAPP, e.g. Photoshop TV and PS Killer Tips. This is the first time a podcast has caused the iPod to completely reset though.

Perhaps that's why Apple posted the update!
You are probably correct when you suggest that "third party software generating the podcast not being configured correctly and creating a corrupted video file" has something to do with it. Maybe the people who create the Apple Quick Tip of the Week haven't checked to make sure what they do actually works.
I had a video (converted by iTunes for the iPod) that caused my iPod 160GB to crash, twice. Since that video was not that important to me, I removed it and it will not go back on regardless of software updates. These things happen. However, to someone like me who grew up with vinyl records, the iPod is fantastic!

  • ITunes 7 Hates my Video Podcasts

Hoping someone can help. iTunes 7 won't play my old movies, music videos or video podcasts, either on the computer or on the ipod. It recognizes that I have them, but won't play them on the computer, and though I've selected all podcasts (also tried doing to manually), won't put any video on the ipod (including TV episodes purchased from apple).
Can anyone recommend a solution that doesn't include restoring iTunes 6?
    Thanks.

OK, I spoke too soon on the audio podcasts. Many of my podcasts are just fine, but I have found one (it's an enhanced podcast, I'm not sure if that's the difference) that I cannot play and that I cannot transfer to my iPod (a 4g mini). I have always been able to transfer this podcast, and have it in my list of podcasts to sync.
I cannot sync this podcast, nor can I drag the podcast to my iPod within iTunes. I cannot play the podcast by clicking on it in iTunes, but! if I navigate to the file with Finder and open it, it opens and plays in iTunes! If I play another file, then try to play this podcast by clicking in iTunes, it no longer plays!
Between this issue, and the iTunes store causing iTunes to crash consistently since the upgrade to 7.0, I am going to have to consider moving to a different music system!

  • ITunes has stopped playing video Podcasts

About 2 Days ago iTunes starting acting up and I can no longer play Video Podcasts.  AudioCasts seem to work fine.
When I try to watch a Video Cast it takes forever to start and then a few seconds in it stalls and won't play any more.  After a few clicks and timeline drags, very often iTunes will crash and I have to restart it.
I have tried a number of different Podcast channels including Apple Keynote which should not have any issues.
Checked my DSL speed... same as always.
Shut down all my other programs... ran disk utility... rebooted.
Still stalls.  I have been successfully watching podcasts for  years.  Very annoying.
    iTunes 10.5 (141)
    Mac OS 10.6.8
Mac Pro 12 Core 2.93 GHz
    12 GBs Ram
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in Advance

I'm having very similar issues. All video podcasts that have been working fine have now stopped. Whether they are old ones or ones loaded since all the updates around what I can only assume was the launch iCloud. I had almost all my applications in iTunes wanting to be updated, only to be told some of them couldn't be - somehow write and keynote were in there - I've only just reached the point where my compuer, iPad 2 and iPhone 4 are all in synch to discover podcasts aren't working.
I am very keen to understand what solutions are proposed and am feeling very underwhelmed at finding myself in the same position as Windows users after upgrades, and for the first time in years, am unable to defend my Mac and Apple.

  • Transfer Music + Videos + Podcasts + Photos from iPOd to iTunes

This is the same case of old PC crashing. I noticed there are a lot of ways of transferring music files to a new iTunes. Is there a way to do the same with video, podcasts and photo files as well?
    iPOD video   Windows XP

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed above your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation, also it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then have a look at the third party utilities listed above they are generally quite straightforward and simple to use. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.

  • Intel video drivers crash after update

    Hi all,
I have S540 ultrabook and I use it with onelinkdock with external screen and laptop screen in extend mode.
After 8.1 upgrade on boot I receive the error message "Catalyst Control Center stop working", but everythings works fine.
After Lenovo upgrade (including video driver) I don't receive the message anymore, but using the docking with extend screen, I face frequent black screen on external monitor. After few minutes also the main one became black and I got the message "intel video drivers crash and reset".
    Someone face the same issue?
    Thanks for your help

I'm having the same issue as well, I'm currently at work so as of right now I can't try to restore mine, but the strange thing with mine is that I updated mine the day the iOS 4.0 came out and had no problems until last night. Now the music and video sections keep crashing after just a few seconds. Also all my Podcast are gone, the only things missing and I even re-downloaded them last night and they're still gone.

    thanks

Well... only those type of error occur when iTunes has failed or crashed. What version of iTunes are you running? I have had no problems with Videos, Music, or Video Podcasts... but your problem could lie within these factors:
    1. iTunes is out of date?
    2. Internet Connection disconnected?
    3. Too many programs running? (Not enough system resources - RAM)
    4. There was another one but I lost it... :-P

  • ITunes quitting on video podcasts

Here's a new one- today, when I play a video podcast out of my iTunes library, the program unexpectedly quits. This is a new development as of today. Audio podcasts are OK.
Anyone else having this weird problem?

Yes. But it is not simply limited to video podcasts. Any video I try to play causes iTunes to crash. Audio works fine.
