hi there just sighned up to these forums so im a bit of a new be here
this is my ? what is the best way to get my fsb to 200+

funny you should say that i have had one to many installs of xp
200 is not possible with this board shame but i am still happy with what  it gives ..im running at 180 fsb ...i have gone to the 185 before and way past but the overclock dosnt hold well ...do you know my bios well if so what are the best tweaks to add performance ......right now im running my barton at 12/13 times [email protected] think that my fsb may be toping out before the cpu so i go for cpu speed and not the fsb so much ...n/p with temps idle 45 with load 51  case 28
as far as i know i havent changed any volt,s as thay are all on auto

  • MSI 6712 (KT4V) Problem AMD Ath Barton 2500+

Hi guys , im wondering if u can help me
ive got a AMD Barton 2500+ running @ 1498 instead of 18XX , ive tried the following,
    Setting Vcore standard to 1.65
FSB 166 , System does not boot
    FSB 133 , System thinks its a AMD 1900+
FSB 150 , System does not boot
FSB 100 , System thinks its AMD 1100
so now im running 1498mhz instead of 18XX mhz
every time i have to reset the bios to make it boot again ,
    My memory = Whitelike 333 DDR 2x 256mb Pc 2700 (single sided)
    My GFX = Chaintech Gf4 64mb AGP 4X
    Running XP sp1a Professional
Any ideas setting it to 18XX ??
    ive tried all the ratios 11 , 10 , 4 , 12.5 , 11.5 , 13.0 14 , 15 nothing seems to work
even setted the memory to 200mhz , that didn't work ...
    Any ideas?

Well Mate - If the temperature in safe mode at the lower CPU Speed is that high then it means at the proper speed the temperature would be high enough to prevent the system from booting.
And according to what you wrote about the white paste I suspect that your installation of the heatsink is the cause of the problem - which brings us back to the point - have you tried re-installing the heatsink with a thermal pad - not the silicon paste as per AMD instructions?
Anf if after following AMD's installation instructions to the letter you still have the problem you may have a faulty CPU - but unfortunately you will find that you have voided your warranty if you have used any paste instead / as well as the original Thermal pad.

  • KT4V and XP3000+ woes

I have been trying to get my KT4V to run my barton 3000+ succesfully.
If I set the multiplier to 14x I get all sorts of odd chip speeds on boot. They are always 3 digits and are preceeded by a comma (eg: it may display ,833mhz or ,850mhz(it varies)). I can run the chip at lower multipliers with the fastest operating speed of 12.5/13x which displays XP2800+ on boot.
I have gone through the BIOS flash procedure to upgrade it to 1.8 but I am not sure if the flash procedure is working as immediately after flashing I reboot and the system starts normally. I do not know if this is right because other BIOS flashes I have done have displayed an error immediately after reboot that required me to enter the BIOS setup and reset my parameters.
I have tried running both Norton and Sandra sysinformation but they do not seem to give me very much information about the BIOS version.
Also if I run live update 3 it tells me that there is an upgrade to my BIOS available (the upgrade is for version 1.8 which I have supposedly flashed now three times (twice via the disc created by live update and once I have done manually).
There doesnt appear to be any BIOS flash disable in the BIOS setups or a jumper for that purpose on the board and I have run out of ideas.
    Can anyone help me please?

Remember there are two versions of the 3000+ Athlon Xp Barton Core. One is the 400FSB version and the other is the 333MHz. Recheck which you have. For the 400FSB remember putting the frequency at 200. And the 333 at 166.
The multiplier you could probably leave at the auto setting. Oh I just checked the info. about your motherboard, the motherboard that you have can support a cpu FSB(Front Side Bus) up to 333MHz http://www.msicomputer.com/product/detail_spec/product_detail.asp?model=KT4VL&search_text=KT4%20v
If you bought the 3000+ with the 333MHz FSB you will have no problems. But if you bought the one with the 400FSB it will not work properly on that board. Then you should probably buy a new board with VIA KT600 chipset. I'll recommend you buying the MSI KT6 Delta, I just bought and it's great. Here is a review http://www.vr-zone.com/reviews/VIA/KT600/
If this does not help you please reply

  • Kt4V L and Radeon 9500 pro= no overclock

Hi, just wondering if anyone has been able to overclock successfully with a KT4V L (VIA KT 400 chipset )and a Radeon 9500 pro. The system will overclock with my old Ge force 2 no problem. But moving the fsb even 1 or 2 Mhz over 166 with the Radeon installed and CRASH !! I've tried everything ,increased voltage on proc. vid card and ram, loosend ram timings , heat isn't an issue temps are ok. Pwr supply should be ok as I'm getting or slightly exceeding voltages across all rails.
Have  tried with one stick of ram (pc 3200) and with both sticks in( one 3200 and one 2700) All my drivers are the newest including chipset and vidcard. The Radeon does have the modded bios installed to enable overclocking and it overclocks like a champ !  I know the ATI cards have issues with the VIA KT 400 chipset but the system runs rock solid at 166 fsb. Anyway if anyone has had any luck please let me know or if anyone has any ideas on overclocking this thing. Thanks !
Specs: MSI KT4V L mobo, AMD Barton 2500 XP Superlocked processor (I tried unlocking ,no luck) one stick 512mb pc 3200 and one stick 512 mb 2700, Sapphire Radeon 9500 pro with unlocked bios, Enermax 350W psu, one WD 80gb 7200 hdd,one Maxtor 30gb 5400 hdd, cd burner,cd rom Antec Plusview 1000 AMG ,Thermaltake Volcano 9 heatsink and fan. AND 11,650 3dMark 2001se score.
    Wanna get it over 13000.

The 9500pro is a great card. It does have the 9700pro bios in it. That was the first thing I did to it when I got it last year Got the core at 310Mhz but the memory maxes out around 281Mhz.
The amperages across the rails are as follows 3.3V is 32A, 5V is 32A and the 12 V is 26A. The -5V and -12V are both 1A and the =5Vsb is 2.2A .
I have already tried overclocking with one ram stick . Using both the 3200 and the 2700 seperately.
I've also set the vid card to stock settings and still no OC.

  • MSI KT4V and Barton 3000+ crash problem

    Hi all!
I recently upgraded my PC (MSI KT4V) with an AMD Barton 3000+ CPU. Before I had a 2600+ Throughbred.
With my old 2600+ I could run my system stable with a FSB set at 166. It couldn't go much higher that 175 before the system became unstable.
With my new Barton I have a problem :
With my FSB set at 166 games like Far Cry and COD crashes. Explorer crashed at sites with Flash content (flash.ocx error report) otherwise no problems. My Pinnacle studio 7 program couldn't render playable movies.
After I underclocked my CPU, setting the FSB at 154 giving me a total speed of 2GHz, all problems are gone now
My system reports a CPU temp at 48 degrees celsius at a 166 FSB setting but could it be a cooling problem anyway?
I have used Artic Silver as thermal paste on the CPU die.
I have reset my memory timings to CAS 2,5 even though the Corsair RAM supports CAS 2 to get the most stable system.
Is the KT 400 chipset up for the job with the increased speed?
I would like to get the most performance out of my new Barton so I hope that some of you guys can help me out here.
    My system spec is :
    Win XP SP1 and SP2
CPU : AMD Barton XP 3000+
    Motherboard : MSI KT4V (Bios 1C0)
    Soundcard : SB Audigy 2
    Graphics card : Radeon 9800pro 256
    Memory : 1GB Corsair XMS (CAS 2)
    Power suply : Antec 480W
    All latest drivers installed
    Best Regards
    Basse

    Hi Osnavi!
48 degrees is an idle temp and about 51 stressed.
The processor is an Athlon 3000+ 333MHz
The cooler is a Thermaltake Silent Boost
    I have 2 modules 512 MB Corsair XMS PC 2700 333MHz placed in slot 1 and 3
I forgot to tell that I ran memtest386 with the fsb set at 166 and I had error reports on the 128Kb L1 cache right away. Lowering the fsb to 154, the memtest came out alright.
Should I remove the heatsink and reaply cooling paste - silver-free maybe?
    Strange
    Any ideas are welcome
    Best regards

  • IPod Touch 5.1.1 no longer sync'ing w/ iTunes 11.1.3(8). . . .Bad Battery ???

Three day ago my iPod began acting up in a major way.  The battery charging symbol within the battery indicator is no longer showing the iPod being charged when plug in to my MacBook Pro 5.1 via one of my two USB ports.  A new Apple iPod cable was purchased thinking it was a bad wire or pin not making the proper contact with this device.  The same conditions are happening with this new cable.  I have several other peripheral devices and those devices are working and are connecting to my MBP's USB port without any issues.  I have noticed for the past six months my iPod Touch 3rd Gen has been showing signs in needing longer charging times and seems to drain quicker than it used too.  The iPod for the past two nights have been charging for more than eight-hours each night and is sporadic as if it deciding "I'm I fully or 30% charged?" Although subtle, It seems to jump within the sliding battery scale when the device is powered off for a while.  Sometime showing 80% charged when used for a few hours to 30% charged when used for ten minutes.  My iPod is now over three-years old and I think it is time for a new battery!
But, in all honesty, not sync'ing with iTunes is it more than just have a new battery professionally installed? Or are there other electronical problems/components going bad with these devices?  What else can be wrong other than a new battery or will a new battery fix all what is mentioned above? Please be very honest and technical if needed, Thanks!

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one with a new battery for $79. They do not fix yours.

  • Kt4v w/geforce4 ti 4200

I have a kt4v via kt400 chipset based MSI board that I purchased 2 weeks ago online.  I have had nothing but problems and I believe the problem is with the MB.
With the MB I purchased an AMD 2400+ CPU plus 333Mhz 2700 DDR Ram.  I have a GeForce4 TI 4200 64mb AGP Video card installed.
I first tried installing windows 2000.  During the install I get a Blue Screen stating that ACPI support is not available on this MB and I have to install without ACPI support to continue.  In an attempt to fix it I updated the bios to 1.6.  This caused MANY many lock-ups.  When I backed-off to 1.5 things seemed to work better but what I did notice was that w2k sp 3 made things a whole lot worse (know that I formated my computer about 10 times and re-installed trying the many combinations)
Then I tried Windows XP Prof.  It doesn't, error it just hangs during the text part of the install.  If I disable ACPI support in the bios it installs, but I believe this is a feature that is requried and advertised.  Now that I have XP installed (bios level is still at 1.5 plus ACPI is disabled) I still have problems.  At what appears to be random intervals the screen will goto about 320x200 resolution and then thick white verticle lines within blocks appear all over the screen and eventually the computer is completely locked (sorry, this is hard to explain).
Initially, I would believe this to be a video card problem, BUT here are my reasons for thinking otherwise.  1.  The ACPI problem that still exists makes me think this board is flawed ??  2.  I have owned this card for 6 months and used in my last computer without incident.
Sorry for the long question but I wanted to show that i've tried many different scenarios before resorting to this.

OK, I have run memtest on my computer with no errors.
I found on another thread that I may have a bad video card, but that doesn't explain why I can't install an OS with ACPI enabled.
Is there anyone out there who can help ?
    THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE.

  • Problems with KT4V and AtiRadeon 9700 Pro...

    Hi all,
I have lots of problems with my current configuration with games (lock ups) and even in normal use. Also I'm not able to run 3DMark through to see with kind of results would I get. Car chase (high) gets very low fps and the nature test doesn't even work. I have tried different 4in1 drivers and BIOS versions. With 1.6 BIOS version I had lots of CRC errors (should be corrected in BIOS ver. 1.7 but in expense of data rate?).  Does anyone have any suggestions so that I could for example go through the 3DMark even with the expense of performance?
I had those game lock up problems also earlier with KT7A-100 RAID + AtiRadeon 64 (3DMark worked) so I bought new graphic card (didn't help) and after that I bought the new mobo. I know my config is not the best in the world, but I think it should be enough to give some happy moments in ever so demanding games... for a while...
There is also one thing that is quite strange. In my display adapters there is two drivers for AtiRadeon (primary in AGP and secondary in PCI)? I'm not expert, but isn't that weird? I have tried installing different drivers again and again (also reinstalled OS) with no luck! Trying to delete the secondary one doesn't help...
    Help..........!
    My specs:
    MSI KT4V (MS-6712)  4in1 Hyperion 4.45, BIOS ver 1.0
    AMD TM 1.2 GHz CPU
    ATX pro3 (300W)
    WIN 98SE
    512 MB DDR (333)
    SAMSUNG 40 GB (5400 RPM)
    SAMSUNG DVD
    ATIRADEON 9700 Pro (Club 3D)  Catalyst 3.0
    Soundblaster Live!

the 9700 is the most powerfull vga to date and needs power evan more than a gf4 4600
i would lbe looking at some think like an antec true powe 430 watt psu not a basic 300 watter
with ati,s own cards you need revision 1.3 as well best i can recall, but yours is an oem so im not sure
a search for 9700 in this section will get you lots of threads

  • Custom Resolution when VNC'ing with no monitor

    Hi,
I've got my mac-mini wired up to my tv in the front room for use as a media player etc.. This works well with my tv.
However I also want to write iPhone applications, which involves VNC'ing from my windows computer.
When my TV is off, it gives me a choice of about 4 resolutions, none of which match the resolution of my windows computer.
I tried downloading 'switchresx', to add a custom resolution, but it just says 'invalid' next to the entry I added.
Is there some other way of setting a custom resolution for when I want to control my MM from another computer ?
    Cheers
    Rich.

Hah, wow. You're right. pacman overwrote the file, and I wasn't paying attention. A quick
    cp /etc/resolv.conf.pacorig /etc/resolv.conf
    fixed it. Thanks!

  • Memory Problem on KT4V-L

I built a new computer with the following:
    MSI KT4V-L
    AthlonXP 2400+
    Sapphire Radeon 9600 256MB
    SimpleTech 256MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM (MC-DDR2100/256)
It runs great, except for one issue. There's an error above around the 200MB level of memory. The nunmber changes every time I restart the computer, but it's now at the 210,407,424th byte (200.66MB) in memory.
So, thinking the RAM was defective, I returned it to the retailer and got a new one. I put the RAM in and ran Norton Diagnostics. It's still there.
I know it's not Norton Diag with a problem, because if my physical memory use goes over around 200MB, the computer will crash.
The computer is not overclocked at all, stock heat sink/fan. All the temps are well within range, I even tested to make sure nothing is overheating.
I don't have any other compatable RAM/computers to test with. Hopefully, the memory just isn't compatable or somehting. Any insights?
    Thanks.

Thank you axeluktoo. I ran Memtest-86 overnight and the standard test didn't find any errors; I'll run the extended tests later today to be sure.
Thanks Deathstalker, I was didn't know that the board names were based on MB chipset. I was thinking it was processor-based.
My PSU is a Powerman 350W. The components I have are a CD-RW, a CD-ROM (That doesn't run - I need a larger cable. It's connected to the PSU, though.), my video card, my WinTV GO! card, and a cheap 56k modem. Hardly strainging it, I think. The video card doesn't even need the special power cable.
Yes, I have tried a CMOS reset, it didn't change a thing.
    Thanks for all your help.

  • Kt4v possible problem with bios 1.8 and hd

Any Idea anyone with this one.
system running well till the other day when hd went very slow even after defrag, install bios 1.8 and reset the bios and adjusting it for my setup. Come to check my harddrive with maxtor powerdiag 3.04 and could not find the drive or any other drives connected. In the bios setup the drive is present. I removed all drives, cdroms, etc except the maxtor main hd and tried again with the same result. After placing in an ata100 controller card in to a spare pci slot and plugged the hd on to it, that the software sees the drive. The test finished and show the HD to be fine.
The question is do I have a problem with the onboard contoller or with the new bios or both.
When I first got this MB I did the same test with the original bios and the hd connected to the MB controller and the software had no problem seeing that and other drive connected.
    my pc
    6712 mb kt4v
    athlon 2700+
    ti4200 graphics card
    2 off ddr333 512Mb memory
    floppy drive
    sony cdrw
    system software windows xp pro
    hard drive maxtor d740x-6l 60Gb ata133

I'll stick with the V1.10, but I'd fell better if MSI showed me they actively update their systems by releasing updated BIOS files from time to time.
I can't sell a 15000$ storage system that doesn't recognise the CPUs installed. The customer would laugh and tell me to come back with a supported system.
Isn't this a VERY valid reason for wanting updates? Even if it only is an updated CPU list?
The only reason I tried this MSI board is that it was the only one available with my retailer at the time I bought it with 3 PCI-X 100Mhz slots. Maybe I should go with a Tyan Thunder next time. Tyan at least show some activity.

  • Getting the Output Stream of  a Process without exec()ing it first.

    Hi there,
I am writing a java application which needs to open another application "gnuplot". Now my operating system is windows and I open pgnuplot .
Also I want to send input to the above gnuplot (say plot sin(x) ) via the outputStream. The following is what I do :-
         String gnuplot_cmd = "plot sin(x)\n" ;
              Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("C:/gnuplot/gnuplot4/bin/pgnuplot.exe");
              PrintWriter gp = new PrintWriter(p.getOutputStream());
              gp.print(gnuplot_cmd);
              gp.close();
But the above doesn't work fully , in that only the blank wgnuplot terminal window pops up however I am unable to direct input to the gnuplot application.
The reason being that , pgnuplot checks for
its stdin being redirected the moment it's started. If, at that time,
the "PrintWriter" is not yet connected to the OutputStream of the
process, that check will fail, and pgnuplot will revert to just executing
wgnuplot, without any command line redirection.
I am facing a problem of how to attach a OutputStream to the process, without getting exec()ing the process.
Is there anyway at all, i can get a process without starting it, so that I can attach an output Stream to it before it gets executed?
I am open to work arounds, anything that will automate the process of writing to the gnuplot terminal.
    thanks!
    nandita.

The reason being that , pgnuplot checks for
its stdin being redirected the moment it's started.
    If, at that time,
the "PrintWriter" is not yet connected to the
    OutputStream of the
process, that check will fail, and pgnuplot will
    revert to just executing
wgnuplot, without any command line redirection. I'm not convinced this analysis is correct. gnuplot doesn't need to know that there's a PrintWriter there, and it probably can't know. It just needs to know whether its standard input is coming from console or not. The Java library code that can invoke processes probably handles the redirect right away, and that's why there's the OutputStream available even before you create the PrintWriter.
exec can be tricky. I think the problem may be that you're not dealing with standard output or standard error. Read this:
    When Runtime Exec Won't
If that still doesn't help, there may be options to gnuplot to tell it exactly where its input is coming from.

  • Logic 8 and 9 sync'ing on two separate computers

hi there and thanks for reading this post.
    here's my setup...
1 ppc mac g5 running logic pro 8 - with various vst virtual instruments that only work on the ppc platform
1 intel mac pro 8 core running logic 9 - with au virtual instrumets only
    here's my question...
can i run/network the two macs so that the intel is the master, the ppc vst instruments chase the intel's au vi's and - if that wasn't enough - all audio from the ppc is routed - like a reason rewire setup - to the intel master's environment/mixer/rme audio card.
in other words - i am not interested in node'ing the computer, nor am i interested in having to take audio out of both the ppc and intel separately to another mixer.
i would ultimately like all audio passing through the intel.
anyone out there with some ideas....
    thank you

sending audio through the network is attractive, although your comment is a bit scary.
Yeah, the feature is attractive, but it practice it's never been particularly easy to do this reliably.
I've tried all kinds of solutions, and while I've been able to get them to work, it's never been particularly solid, for all kinds of reasons, especially variable latency.
is there more information about accomplishing this - again - a la a rewire setup...
i'd only be interested in sending a stereo pair from the ppc to a channel or aux in on the intel side...
A simple stereo pair is easy enough - you can use OSX's network audio plugins to send and receive audio across the network. However, you will have the need to accurate timing of the audio, because it needs to "line up" with the host DAW. Give it a try, because it's free and easy, and see what success you have with it.
You can also try FX Teleport and do it that way, which works in a similar manner but should have latency a bit better.
If you have a PPC machine with an inbuilt digital output, then it would be easier to connect that to your current audio interface and transfer your stereo feed digitally...

  • KT4V and BIOS 1.9

Just flashed my KT4V-L to the new 1.9 bios without any problems.  I ran a few benchmarks on SANDRA as that is what I had handy(cpu arithmetic and MM, memory bandwidth, and cache and memory benchmark); I didn't see any real improvements (as expected).  I can't see any instability at the moment.  I haven't yet overclocked my cpu again to where it was, but I'll be sure to post again after I do.

    Current FSB = 169.3
Multiplier = 10.5 (didn't want to bother with wire trick)
    Total speed = 1778 mhz
    Vcore = 1.81V
Idle temp = 43C from PC Alert 4 and FL4 (39C in BIOS)
I am stoked about this lowered Vcore.  With bios 1.8, I had to run at 1.85 for it to be stable; at 1.825, it was stable for about 30 minutes and then rebooted.  With 1.9, I have been running at 1.80V (1.81 actually, so says FL4) for 45 minutes.  I played about 30 minutes of CS, and since then I have been listening to music (something that didn't fly for very long at this voltage with bios 1.8 ) while checking email, IMing, and posting here at the forum.  Since the Vcore is lower, and along with the CPU Temp Detection modification of bios 1.9, my temp is way down at this overclocked speed.
45 minutes is not very long, so this isn't definitive at all.  However, it is longer than was possible with bios 1.8 at 1.81V.
    Hooray so far...
