O.T. Mac OSX Printing

For Mac owners with old printers, this item from Macintouch might be of interest :
Praise For GIMP Print
Bruce Heiman
Just a quick note to praise GIMP print. What a great package. I have an oldish Epson Color Stylus 880; a great printer in its day. There is NO OSX driver for this printer (even though that model printer is not THAT old).
I installed the GIMP-print driver from the GIMP package and it allowed my printer to work as well as ever! There are a few fancy features that I can't access anymore, and there is no "clean print heads" function in the driver, but I can live with that (to clean inkjet heads I dip them in near-boiling water for a few seconds then air dry them--works great). I was going to donate that printer, but now I can use it!
FYI, I was so happy with the official release that I thought to try the Beta (5.0) version, which also works great. GIMP provides a hugely valuable service to the community. Kudos to the developers of the OSX friendly version. Really great design.

Hi Nadia
Cool, thanks.

  • Photoshop & Mac OSX printing

Our site uses safecom as a print solution and all the PC use an HP universal driver which works fine.
Macs on the other hand throw up a message, Could not print <filename> because of program error.
Ive played around with different print drivers and still have the problem.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

What printer are you using and what version of OSX do you run?

  • Leopard has broken Mac OSX printing.

problem 1 - now that we've lost page setup we've lost the ability for applications to remember our scaling prefferences. for example, i have to print a bunch of orders off of safari at 72% so they fit on one page. i used to just go to page setup, set the scale at 72%, then print away. now i have to set the scaling percentage everytime i give the print command! wastes loads of time.
problem 2 - why the **** do the print monitors stay open and clutter up the dock long after printing has ceased?! i'm getting so sick of having to click on those freaking printer icons and quiting out of them as if they were some kind of rogue application i didn't want open. anyone else noticing frankly glaring oversights in leopards printing design? didn't anyone freakin test this crap before it was released?

You should submit feedback to Apple about this. This is a new feature in Leopard and only affects some applications.

This is also a new feature in Leopard, and a search of the discussion boards would have shown several topics about this and how to make the behavior revert to Tiger's behavior. Click on the printer in the dock so that the menu appears and choose Auto Quit. If it doesn't work, you may have to delete and re-add the printer.
If you don't like the new features or Leopard's new behavior, you can go back to Tiger.
    Hope this helps.

After installing Mac OSX Snow Leopart 10.6.3 my HP Photosmart C5500 won't scan to computer.  The printer is working. What do I have to do to be able to scan again?

Often, you have to download updated vendor software drivers when you switch operating systems. HP doesn't list a C5500 on their web site, however, here's the link to the OS X 10.6 C5540 software.  If you have one of the other C55xx models, look for the updated driver/scan software on their software/driver download section of HP.Com.

  • Is it possible to Print a PDF as a PDF in Acrobat 11.0.06 on Mac OSX 10.8.5?

Is it possible to Print a PDF as a PDF in Acrobat 11.0.06 on Mac OSX 10.8.5?
I need this functionality. Adobe PDF doesn't appear in the printer list as it did on my windows laptop. I need to be able to print to the PDF "size" of 8.5 by 11 to shrink files down for e-mail. My workflow usually goes like this:  I import all the pictures or create a PDF from multiple files (pictures), I then put them in order  and then print to PDF, two pictures to a page. I can take a 50MB file down to a 1MB file this way. Makes it easy to view on smartphones and the like.
Is this functionality still broken in Acrobat 11? Did I just waste my money? This was the only reason I bought the latest version - It wouldn't work on 9 Pro either.
    Thanks,
    Jon

Thanks Tony. That is exactly the functionality I am not getting from the current product on Mac.
You can get a much better looking result that takes up way less space and opens faster for the end user by printing a PDF as a PDF and controlling the size of the PDF image. I can take - for instance, 6 or 7  10MP pictures and create a PDF out of them. The PDF will be 25MB or so. I can print that as a PDF which will allow me to put two pictures per page  - and that file will be about 1 MB. No crappy looking images, just much smaller size and multiple images per page.
It's a workflow I have used for years on PC.  Everyone keeps saying just save it as a PDF using the Mac print "save as PDF" functionality but that doesn't accomplish the same thing and you can not control how many pages to print on to each new page of your PDF.
I find it misleading that I saw a web page on Adobe's site that shows you can print as a PDF and it says you can print as a PDF on Mac and that is NOT the case.  Print to PDF Windows 7, Vista, XP, Mac | Adobe Acrobat XI Infuriating.
I have tried to optimize a PDF with 6 or 7 images and it just doesn't do the same thing. It wont reduce the size as much as I need, cuts it in half - but not down to a small fraction for being an e-mail attachment. I'm using XI Pro. Researched this for about 3 hours and it is not functionality that can be used on a Mac.
I even tried printing as a PDF in Parallels on XP with another licensed version of Acrobat Pro and it still wont let you. You would have to probably dual boot your machine to get the functionality by running windows flat out on the Mac with a separate Licensed copy of the software.
It amazes me that Adobe can't figure this out or make amends with Apple to get the functionality back into Acrobat.

  • HP Laserjet 4 printer driver for mac osx 10.8.5

Anybody know of a mac osx 10.8.5 printer driver for a HP Laserjet 4?

Yeah, looked at this list earlier - they've got v. 19.8 for a Laserjet 4 Plus but mine is a plain Laserjet 4 so I doubt it would work. I used a Gutenprint driver v. 5.2.3 with Leopard that worked OK. Mountain Lion doesn't seem to like it as much...

  • Officejet Pro 8500 Premier won't print (Mac OSX 10.6)

The printer is detected by my computer and is able to interact with it, but it refuses to print.  I restored factory settings with no luck.  I downloaded the HP software/drivers for my laptop, ran setup, everything worked...still won't print.  Any ideas please!?!
    Thanks!

    Hi Stonesp85,
Is there any error message pops out on printer front panel or on the PC?
Are you able to print out any self-test page like Product Status Report or Network configuration page ( in Setup -> Reports)?
this is just a quick test for your printer hardware.
to fully validate you printer hardware, I suggest you download "HP Hardware diagnostic Utility" in below link and run it:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&jumpid=ex_r4155/hho/ipg/ccdoc/h...
if there is no problem found on printer hardware, please make sure that you installed the right driver, below is the link for the printer driver on Mac OSX 10.6:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-85024-2&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...=
    Hope it helps you.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 will NOT print on MAC OSX 10.7.5

    I'm using Mac OSX 10.7.5
New Officejet Pro 8600 is set-up and wireless is connected with Bonjour.  When printing the printer utility opens and shows me that the printer is connecting.  For example: "Printing Microsoft Word - Document 1".  Printing page is shown as "100% complete". However, nothing prints.
I am able to print the 'Print Self Test Page' but nothing else (ie. word documents). I have the printer setup on an HP Laptop and it is working just fine over the network.
I have tried every solution under the following link and nothing worked:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02205477

HI, I also had this same issue and finally worked out a solution.
Just to summarise: I had two Macbooks 10.7.4, iPhone, iPad, airport express and netgear evg2000 router. They all worked wirelessly one minute then stopped. I could wirelessly connect to the printer, print test pages, view the queue, view supplies but any print would appear in the queue as 100% complete or 1% or 12% but never actually print out.
I logged in to the embedded web server (ews) on the printer, went to network, advanced settings-bonjour and changed the Bonjour Highest Priority Service to '9100 printing' instead of 'LDP'. I then deleted the printer from the print function in system prefs, re added it and it worked. I had to turn the iPhone and iPad off and on and they worked.

  • MAC OSX 10.5.8 HP C7280 not printing - communication failure

I have a Mac OSX 10.5.8 , It has been wirelessly connected to mt HPC7280 for a long time and prints perfectly up until today. The queue shows "printing" for a while but nothing prints and then I get this messege:
"Communication Failure: The computer is no longer able to communicate with your printer. Turn the printer off, check your printer connections and check for printer errors, and turn the printer back on."
Tried all troubleshooting on this page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02205477&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=320...
Nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Let's reset the printing system:
    - Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
    - Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Hello @robjpell , welcome to the forums
Unfortunately there are no drivers available for the Officejet 4635 on Mac OS X 10.5. You can try connecting a USB to see if it will work however, there is not a downloadable driver available.
Here is also the link to the drivers page for your reference: HP Officejet 4635 e-All-in-One Printer Drivers

I have a Mac OSx 10.6.8 and iPhoto 7.1.5 and can no longer order printed photo albums unless I update to new version of iPhoto. But reviews of new iPhoto are so negative that I am uncomfortable about buying it. Will it be fine or should I steer clear of trouble and accept that i can no longer publish my photos?

    iPhoto '11 is working well.
The reviews usually only show the comments of people who do not like the changed features.
To get an idea what to expect, when you upgrade, look at the iPhoto '11 support sites.

  • LR5 version 5.3 abends when selecting media type in the print module; on Mac OSX 10.9.1. Why?

LR5 version 5.3 abends when selecting media type in the print module; on Mac OSX 10.9.1. Why? The printer is an Epson 4900.

I contacted Epson and the following steps resolved the problem.
Please close all of your programs to Repair Permissions:
    1. Go to your Mac Hard Drive > Applications > Utilities and open the Disk Utility.
    2. Click on and highlight your main Mac Hard Drive in the list on the left.
    3. Select Repair Disk Permissions and once this is finished, restart your computer.
Once restarted, please do the following:
    1. Open your System Preferences
    2. Open Print & Fax (10.7/10.8/10.9 is Print & Scan)
    3. Highlight your Epson printer in the Printer List on the left hand side of the window if it is showing in the list. If it is not  showing up, continue to step 5
    4. Click on the MINUS sign below the Printer List and confirm deletion of the printer
    5. Click on the PLUS below the Printer List to re-add the printer
    6. Click on and Highlight the Epson Printer in the window and confirm that in the USE field it reads for "EPSON XXXXXX"
    7. If it does, click ADD and the printer should show up again in the Printer List and you can try to print again
If you are still having issue, try printing from Apples Preview and see if it print fine. If so, the issue would be PS and/or LR and you would need to troubleshoot the program installation.
We take your satisfaction seriously and hope that we have helped resolve your issue. If you receive a survey from us, we would greatly appreciate if you could take a few minutes to provide us with feedback about your support experience. Your ratings and comments are extremely important to us.

Thank you again for contacting Epson.

  • Mac OSx 10.8.5 and HP laser jet 2100M printer w/ driver version 19.8--Doesn't print!

I've got a macbook pro with Mac OSx 10.8.5. I've successfully printed with my HP Laser jet 2100M printer until recently. The driver version is 19.8. I don't know what changed but about a month ago the printer says "printing--connected to printer" but it never prints. What do I need to do to get my printer and my macbook to communicate again and start printing? I also have a mac mini desktop running on mac osx 10.7.5 and it doesn't talk to the HP Laser jet 2100M either (also driver 19.8.Please, can you tell me how configure so these macs will be able to print to my printer?

I have had a similar issue with my HP LaserJet 1320 printer on OS X 10.8. On certain PDF files (only those that I have tested so far), the data will send fine from the computer (and the job goes away) but the printer balks and drops the print job on its end. It's only when I save it as an image in Preview and then print will it work (advice from this forum post). However, when I updated the driver from 19.8 to 19.13 (in the Apple Software Update), it seemed to fix it.  Do you know what changed between 19.8 to 19.13?
