O.T. News From Apple

I wonder if this means that you can use PSE for Windows on the new Macs ?

Apple Allows Windows on Its Machines
By VIKAS BAJAJ
Published: April 5, 2006
Turning a decades-long rivalry on its head, Apple Computer introduced software today that it says will easily allow users to install Microsoft's Windows XP operating system on Apple's newest computers.
The software, Boot Camp, is available as a free download on Apple's Web site and will be part of the next version of Apple's operating system, Leopard. It works on Apple's three lines of computer that run on Intel chips the Mac mini, the iMac and the MacBook Pro.
Apple's move is a recognition of the growing interest among some users in running Windows on Macintosh computers now that they are using Intel processors, which power the majority of Windows-based personal computers. Many technology enthusiasts have already been sharing software and tricks on the Internet to allow Mac users to add Windows to their new machines, though those approaches, it appears, involve a far more complicated installation than Apple's new software does.

This sure is exciting, as I need some of the plugins and filters that my PC classmates use.
Even tho it means buying another computer, a MacTell, its worth it.
I think it will be a good thing for Apple, might sell tons of these now.

    Hi Argyll2bikes,
Welcome to the forum.  It unfortunate that there is so much extra work needed before we can supply you with telephone service.  I am sorry about this.  As you have placed an order for service it is incorrect for us to tell you that you need to get permission from the landowner to cut down the tree.  This should all be handled between BT and Openreach.
I would like to get your details so I can find out exactly what is going on here.  Please drop me an email via the 'Contact Us' link in my profile. (click on my name and you will find the link under the "about me" section). Include your BT account details and the link to this thread.

We are sorry that we are unable to deal with service/account queries via the private message(PM) function so please don't PM your account info, we need to deal with this via our email account :-)

  • Any news from Apple?

    Hi all.
Everyone here agrees that iTunes 7 has been a flop. For whatever reason, Apple has decided to ignore it's beta testing and release a faulty copy of it's software to the general public. Yes I agree we're all pretty annoyed.
I also agree that iTunes software is free. Yet we "have" to use it to use their iPods, which we most certainly do pay for.
So what to do? Well, all we CAN do is get really really annoyed. I hope Apple by this stage have sacked a few people or at least severely reprimanded them for this software blunder. How hard would it be to release a beta version to a few hundred people? Apart from that, we can buy different hardware the next time we go looking for an MP3 or MP4 player, and certainly NOT buy an Apple computer.
My question is why oh why won't Apple admit these problems? Their silence is quite deafening. As I said above, we can't do anything but become annoyed and maybe throw our iPods across the room, but it would soothe the savage beast if Apple would at least come out in public and face the critisisms that we have all made in this forum. If we were to be tempted to buy an Apple computer instead of a Windows based PC, and this is the pathetic level of customer service that was on offer from Apple, then I'm happy with my WinXP thank you very much.
Anyone from Apple want to respond?
    John

    Great post John Cunningham3.
As far as I know I haven't lost any music and that's scary. Does anyone think Apple will reimburse these people???
I myself can listen with no problems and my podcasts are being updated as well, but I can't access anywhere in the store other than the front. Once I click the video section it shuts down.
What's interesting in all of this is with all of the media being bought out my companies affiliated by other companies will the "news" organizations listen to us???
I mean Apple is still linked with Disney through Pixar and Disney is the "parent company" of ABC what incentive does ABC have in making this story public.
Considering the splash they made at unveiling the iPods last week and how much positive press they received why didn't the news organizations respond to the iTunes Store fiasco???
I hope the fix comes out soon, but as John Cunningham3
already mentioned their silence is deafening.

  • DAY 3...and still no news from Apple - What can we do?

I notice that still no-one seems to have a definite answer from Apple about the problems we poor luddites who can't/won't upgrade to iTunes 6 are having with the store (mostly no tracklisting but I think there are other issues too).
Apart from emailing them which seems to illicit no response (has anyone had a response?) what else can we do?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

You and David have valid points---technology rumbles on etc. But here's my point: the individual computer owner, who has sunk god knows how much money into Apple, would like to have the option--since s/he knows their computer better than the nameless corporate automatons--to download the software that will run best with their computer. Is that so much to ask? ReallY? For example, I have an 'old' iMac that runs at 450Mhz. The v6 requires 500Mhz. As well, I don't care to ever purchase videos. If Apple would simply let us download pre-existing software, like 4.9 or 5, our problem would be solved and we would have another year maybe two to enjoy the music store.
I'm glad you can update, mate. Glad none of this affects you. but as you can see by the forum(s), lots of folks have been pushed overboard and as one astute poster noted, a simple change in software now will require her to go out and purchase a new computer. Imagine your having bought a 20 thousand dollar automobile and within two years, it stops running because the software that operates the ignition has been upgraded. You can't upgrade as it doesn't match your systems needs or whatever. Would you be p*d off? Might you think it just a tad galling that a company would have you run out and purchase another car because even though they had the version of software you need to run your auto, they wouldn't provide it for you? That's arrogance...and frankly, some of us would rather walk than be treated that way.

  • Any news from Apple as to when they will fix the issue that iphone 4s will not sync music with itunes?

I have tried all of the suggestions in the support communities. Itunes shows that my phone and my library are synced, however none of the changes I made to playlists show up on my phone
Is there any word from Apple as to when this will be addressed?

So this isn't just me? I'm getting on a flight in 12 hours and I've been trying to copy a book on tape over... I've got my cable but nothing will sync. It just keeps insisting I put everything on the cloud... However I can't bloody download audiobooks from the iCloud when I'm on an AIR PLANE. Would be nice to fix this up...

  • Frozen startup screen with apple and spining cirlce. BRAND NEW FROM APPLE!

i just bought a new imac today from chadstone apple store and i tried installing one of the grey discs but halfway through installation i stopped it coz i realised i already had it on the computer. then it gave me option to restart or shutdown, i clicked restart but then it froze on the screen - GREY APPLE AND SPINNING SMALL GREY CIRCLE!
    WHAT DO I DO?

    {quote}i tried installing one of the grey discs but halfway through installation i stopped it coz i realised i already had it on the computer. {quote}
I think you hit the nail on the head right here. Put the restore disk in and restart holding down the C key and install it without canceling.

  • Apple certified cords for iphone 5 now giving me error, one is brand new from apple store, what is fix

I have three apple certified cords and all are giving me errors not certified. What is fix?

If you got them from a real Apple Store they are covered by warranty. Take it back and get a free replacement.
Of course, it could be that the cables are OK but you have a defective charger (if you are getting errors while charging)

  • News from Apple Store:  10.6.3 - 10.6.3.1 seems to work on my iMac...

I originally shared my woes on this issue with "youngpunk" last week, but since my machine worked under Safe Boot and since I presumed my problem was overheating (based on other posts and my own SMC observations w/ioreg... GPU @ ~45 C. under Safe Boot but 70+ C. when booted normally (until it stops operating altogether, of course...)), I waited a few days until I could bring my machine in for an Apple Care diagnostic and overhaul...
... which began on Wed. (4/14/10) at the Apple Store in Burlington MA (and I did a complete Combo update before dropping it off, to no avail). The first report, Thurs. morning, was that the hardware passed their overnight diagnostics and they asked to do a disk erase/reinstall. I asked that they clean the machine first, but in the interim I discovered that the 10.6.3.1 "Security Update" became available, so I asked them to try that before any reinstallation or cleaning...
... and the system now seems to work fine! They ran their diagnostic and then ran a DVD movie followed by YouTube in a loop overnight, with no hiccups. I'm as surprised as are they, and they are still going to clean the iMac for me (which I appreciate...) and rerun the hardware diagnostic.
I will report back after I recuperate the machine and use if for a few days (without difficulties, I hope... and I am not sure that they tested w/ multiple monitors or the video out as I normally use it).
For now, however, I give credit to the Apple Care staff in this particular store for not following their protocols blindly. My sense is that the problem was related to the update and the full-bore operation of a three-year old system that was originally designed for the previous major release of the OS (which might explain the quirky nature of the problem in that it might be related to the mix of hardware and software conditions (as in reduced cooling versus add-on features running...).
Good luck to those still seeing problems...
PS: my Apple Care runs out in October 2010... so I was pleased to be able to benefit from it and will seriously consider replacing it with ProCare afterwards...

If it is not working without a "driver" then I'd guess there is a hardware problem: either the card reader, the USB cable or the USB port on your Mac.
Do you have access to another computer to check if the card reader works there?
Is this the model we are talking about: SanDisk ImageMate® All-in-One USB 2.0 Reader

  • Why is my iphone locked to a single network when i bought the iphone new from apple

I want to change network on pay as you go but when I change the sim it is asking for activation & to contact my network provider?
I dont understand as I bought my iphone 4s new sim free.

Apple does not sell unlocked phones in all countries. In many countries, Apple sells both locked and unlocked phones.
Does your reciept state that the phone is "unlocked"?
What is the exact error message you are getting?
Where exactly did you purchase the phone?

  • IOS 6 obviously has Bluetooth problems. Any news from Apple to fix it?

As many have discussed already, I'm too having issues pairing Bluetooth devices with the upgrade to iOS on my 3rd gen iPad and my Digital Gadgets Bluetooth keyboard case.

  • Is there any news from Apple regarding iMessage on MacBook Air?

I WANT IT so badly on my MacBook Air!

It wasn't worth the wait. Yes, I know its beta and I know its free, but its a singularly unimpressive piece of software. It sends messages based on your Apple ID, not your phone number. As a consequence, your contacts wont know where to message you and you'll miss messgaes on the phone that go to the computer, and vice versa. You also cant clear the chat transcripts without major surgery (burrowing into the folders in the library).
I hope it gets better, because right now its not much to look at.

  • New iPod Touch arrived from Apple today - Wifi inoperable

Brand New iPod Touch 32G just showed up from Apple via Fed-Ex today. First thing I tried was to join my Home Wifi. Same result as everyone else. DHCP is failing and the device gets a self-assigned IP address 169.254.X.X.
Before you start asking me about my router et. al., know that I have been working on this issue for 5 hours now. Had Apple on the phone for over an hour. They had me completely strip out iTunes on my Mac, and re-download and install it. I've upgraded to iOS 4.3.3, did a complete Restore of my BRAND NEW iPod, Reset Network Settings, h*ll I reset the entire device even after a FULL RESTORE. Tried Airplane mode On/Off. WiFi On/Off. Etc.
The clincher was taking this FULLY RESTORED iPod Touch to the Starbuck's across the street, next to a Verizon store. This device cannot even get on Starbuck's WiFi nor Verizon's WiFi - BOTH Public and Open.
I have a Verizon MiFi Mobile Hotspot as well - Same symptoms - No assigned IP.
I was able to get networking to my home Wifi to work, BUT ONLY IF I SET A STATIC IP PARAMETRICS. This is a solution to my Home Network, but not for ALL the OTHER Public WiFi networks out there.
Multiple Networks - Apple has a REAL problem here!!!
Please! Suggestions are welcome, but please don't ask me to repeat all the diagnostics I've already done.
(I wish these things were as easy to diagnose as my Android devices! At least I can shell in and see what's going on in those!)

4.3.3 does this on one of my four devices...with just one source.
Work with static router I.P. as best you can and wait for an iOS update.

  • On my new Imac, I had the trial version of Pages, and saved some files in it. Now I have purchased the full version from Apple via a download, but I cannot save or print the old files, please help!

On my new Imac I saved some files on the free trial version of Pages, since downloading the full version from Apple, have been unable to save or print from old files saved when using the trial version. Any ideas? Thank you!

My guess is the 30-day trial period has expired but you didn't remove the trial before installing the full version. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user.
Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his iDisk in For_iWork > iWork '09 > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

Could be since it (security software) is listed as #5 in the following:

  • How do i migrate info from apple 2.26 13″ (Mid-2009) to new macbook pro 13

What is best way to migrate all info from apple 2.26 13″ (Mid-2009) to new 2.3 13" macbook pro Core i5?

It seems the best way is to use the "Set Up Assistant" on the first initial boot of your new machine with a  Firewire connection. It will prompt you for transfering from your old Mac.
I've never had an issue with this method.
