OA2: Soft Proofing Profile for Apple Print

Hi,
Does anyone know what Soft Proofing Profile to use the Aperture 2 "built-in" Print & Book Services? Or perhaps where to get it?
Thanks

Hi
This has cropped up a few times before, the general opinion seems to be to use Average McCoy Gloss for proofing Apples print services.
Check out this link : http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=9295427&messageID=6190046
for more info, David is still holding a copy of the profile at the link provided in the thread.
Good luck

I use lightroom with the soft proofing feature for my printing. I used to make a copy proof, but all of the sudden something changed, and even if I'm on the copy in the developing mode it prints the original. Also, If i chose a file that was already in light room to print, even though I have the chosen file up in the developing mode, it will instead print the most recent file that I added to lightroom. If found a way to work around these problems, (check make this the copy in the soft proofing, and copy my settings and delete and reload the old files) but it's a slight hassle and it didn't use to do this. Not sure why it changed. Could I have accidentally changed a setting?

  • Color profile for ordering prints from Apple

    Hy,

  • How to use ICC profiles and soft proofing profiles?

    Hi,
I got an Epson Stylus Pro 3880 and Epson Hot Press paper which, upon investigation, received great profeesional reviews and, having never printed digitally before, I don't know how to use profiles for soft proofing or printing.
I don't know where to go in Aperture or what to do. My driver is up to date and I downloaded the paper profile - not sure where it ended up. What's next?
So far as I know, soft proofing is about calibrating the monitor to the paper - am I correct?
    Thanks guys,
    Raphael

    Raphael,
A good reply is going to require a full-size keyboard, which I don't have access to just now.  Here are some starter pages:
    http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/soft-proofing.htm
    http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/soft-proofing.shtml (a bit grumpy and out-dated)
Fwiw, I print to Epson Hot Press using a 3880.  Imho, it's a _great_ printer, and that combination of printer and paper produced state-of-the-art results.  (Not suitable in all cases, but if that is a look you like, the only thing that I've seen that surpasses it is the Epson 9900, and without looking at prints side by side you can not tell them apart.)
Your profile ended up wherever you have told your browser to save downloaded files.  The Epson site should provide instructions on where to move the file.  Once it is in the right Finder folder, when you next Aperture it should show in your list of profiles.
Keep in mind, though, that soft-proofing is useless without a well (read: hardware-calibrated) calibrated display.

  • Soft Proof Profile??

Hi, my question is quite simple really, Is it possible to create a profile for soft proofing? If it is possible, could somebody let me know how to do it! Many Thanks!!

Thanks for the reply!! I do understand that and to say the least I am a novice. I have a Huey Pro which is calibrating my colour. I recently had my first batch of prints done by a professional lab they sent me one batch corrected and the other straight print. The straight print was darker than the image i had on the screen. So it was my understanding that you could use the soft proofing to gain some idea of what the final image would look like depending on the media type. So what i was getting at really was if i select the standard profile of lightness decrease i have an image on screen far closer to that of the straight print. So what i would like to do is create or edit an existing profile to take the lightness a little lower which will being bang on for the lab prints. This is just so i don't have to second guess the results from there colour correction. I hope that make sense. But as i said before I am a novice and i might have this wrong!!

  • Proofing Profile if ordering prints through Aperture

So if I order prints through Aperture and have them shipped to me, which proofing profile should I be using to get a better idea of what to expect?
    Thanks!

    Jamie,
I asked Apple this exact same question regarding Aperture's book service. Their response was that Apple does not have a profile available for books. I'd be surprised if they had one for prints.
    Cheers,

  • What color profile for digital printing?

Under color settings in InDesign i only find profiles for offset press but what color profile should i use if i want my document printed on a digital printer?

    indewarry wrote:
i just find it strange that there is no 'standard' profile for printing for digital press. All profiles are for conventional press.
Like conventional presses, digital equipment uses a range of inks and papers, so there is no single profile that would always be correct, and the press operator can often calibrate the equipment to one of several differnt standards. I use a printer that offers both offset and digital (using an HP Indigo) printing, and all of their equipment is calibrated to GRAcol.
The fact that the printer couldn't tell you the correct profile is a big red flag shouting that they don't know anything about color management. Don't expect good color fidelity, and insist on a contract proof.

Nice. Only trouble there seems to be multiple entry for same mac address there for same resource id.
So when I try to get them as substring i get multiple copies of same mac address.
But looks like this will work as solution to this problem.
So far I was doing it this way (And i am sure there is clearer way to do it.)
    SUBSTRING((SELECT ',' + CAST(t2.MACAddress0 AS VARCHAR(40))
FROM (SELECT DISTINCT ResourceID, MACAddress0 FROM  v_GS_NETWORK_ADAPTER) t2
                WHERE t2.ResourceID = ResourceID
                ORDER BY t2.ResourceID, t2.MACAddress0
                FOR XML PATH ('')

  • Colorsync - how do I create a profile for HP printer

Help. I have a new printer (HP Photosmart C4750), and it's profile doesn't at all match my onscreen colors. I need to create a colorsync profile that will address this, but am having NO success with the information I'm finding. Anyone?

Your best bet (cheapest) is to look on HP's site and see if they have profiles for that model printer. You may also find them on the disks the printer came with.
Be aware that printer profiles are very specific. The exact same model of printer must be used when creating one, and the exact same paper. When you're done, that profile is only good for the paper used as glossy paper will give you completely different results than plain paper. It's also brand specific. If you used HP glossy paper, you can't substitute Epson glossy paper, or even a different type of HP glossy paper. Color will come out different.
So if HP does have any profiles you can get for your printer, they should also be noted as to what paper they are for.
Next least expensive is to have an outside service create your profiles for you. They would send you target images to print, which need to be printed in a very specific manner. You then send the printed sheets to them and they create a profile from them to be emailed to you upon payment.
Here's one place which can do that. You can find a few more by looking through these links.
After that, you need to shell out some bucks. Least expensive is an X-Rite ColorMunki at about $320 at various online stores. I've tried them, and while they work, they don't produce very good printer profiles. What I use is Monaco (X-Rite) Profiler with a DTP-70 auto reading spectrophotometer. However, this type of setup will set you back about $4,500.

  • Non Classic replacement for Apple Printer Utility?

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro which wont run Classic and some clients with Apple printers (LaserWriter II, LaserWriter 8500, etc.).
Previously with my PowerBook I could use the Apple Printer Utility (OS 9.x application) to configure these printers (change IP addresses, etc.). Now because the MacBook Pro wont run this app I have to carry the PowerBook around to do it.
Does anyone now of a PowerPC (or even better yet Universal Binary) utility that will do the same thing?

    Hi Stephen,
I don't have a 16/640 but have read help docs on Apple Support. You should be able to access the printer via the telnet command in the OS X Terminal (maybe not the elegant answer you wanted!). There will be help by typing ? or help (I'm guessing).
    telnet {IP address of printer}
    Let us know.

  • HT3771 Installing non Canon printer profiles for ix4000 printer

Printing has been a disaster since either OS10.6. or manufacturers started to cater for multi ink printers, about the same time 18 months ago.
Canon best quality glossy photopaper pro was always bad, biassed to yellow green. HP Premium Plus was good in its old fomulation, as was Ilford Classic Pearl.
Now ALL papers have the bias to yellow green (though not sufficently consistent to correct in print dialogue). Even the new Ilford Gallerie smooth pearl using their profile <n_IGSPP11_CANiX4000_PPPGn.icc>
I am now trying the new HP paper Premium Plus Photo Glossy 300gsm with better results as far as print density goes, but still a green-yellow bias.
I thought I might be able to download an HP profile eg <HP_CP_series_High_Gloss_photo_best.icc>, but I can't find any way to install it; doesn't behave like the Ilford ones in the Colorsynch profile folder.
Anyone have any ideas on EITHER installing an HP profile (and which one would suit 3-colour+black printer to use with canon printer) OR correcting the colour bias consistently please?
PS I live too far in the sticks to turn to shops & do (or rather did & hope to re-start) too much printing for camera club comps, greetings cards and local sales

    Allan,
First questions...is your monitor hardware calibrated? How is the quality of other printing (from Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, etc.)?
I'm thinking that if this is a problem specific to printing from the Avery software, you should speak with Avery and ask how you should set up your files for printing through their software.
