OAM OIM OID OVD ?

I always hear these things from Oracle, OAM, OIM, OID and OVD. are they the same thing? if not, I belive they are related since people always mention them together, then, what's relationship? please clarify
I'm new to Oracle identity management products. please let me know if there are any others products closely relate to above in this family.
Thanks

Hi,
Each and every thing performs specific role,It will interdependent you can say when it comes to implementation.
OAM->oracle access manager=performing authentication and authorization of web based and non webbased resources by protecting them.
OIM->oracle identity manager =managing identities of organisation, integrating and provisioning(giving access) to various application and single sign on.
OID->oracle internet directory=its one of the directory server like sun directory server,AD for managing user data.
OVD->oracle virtual directory=its a virtual directory server which provides only view from multiple directory servers.
Please go through oracle docs for more info.
Thanks,
Ragu.

  • Relationship between OAM,OIM,OID

    Hi Gurus,
I am very very new to fusion middleware ,i would like to know the relationship between following in simple terms.
    Oracle Access Manager
    Oracle Identitiy Manager
    Oracle Internet directory
Below are my understanding correct i'f im wrong
OID is like LDAP where passwords and passwords and security policies will be saved.
redirecting to similar question or post is also fine.
    Thanks in advance...

OIM and OAM may use OID to write/retrieve user details from OID.
Lets say a user joined an organization. Now as per onboarding process, you reconcile user from trusted source to OIM and sync that user to OID using LDAP sync. Now when you try to access an application which is protected by OAM, the authentication and authorization of that user happens against OID if it is configured as user identity store.

  • OID, OVD, OIF, OIM, OAM version

Hey guys, I wanted to know if there is some commands that would give me the versions of OID, OVD, OIF, OIM, OAM
Weblogic version can be found by connecting to the console at the bottom of the page: e.g:
    "WebLogic Server Version: 10.3.3.0
Copyright © 1996,2010, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved."
However, for specific product, I'm not sure if there is a way to know the version. Is there a version.property file or a command that can help me ?)
    In case of OID, OVD:
    - opmnctl services version
    - odsm version
    In case of OIF:

  • Installing OIM,OAM,OID,OVD

    Hi All,
I need urgent help.. Lets me tell you the exact situation.
Actually, we have 3 servers and want to install and configure OIM, OAM, OID,OVD 11.1.1.5. Now the real confusion is , how to install them, should i install them on same server or different server. Please help..

Oh wonders of the Oracle documentation. The Enterprise Deployment Guide for Identity Management provides a way to do this, see http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/core.1111/e12035/toc.htm.
Since OVD is very quick and small compared to OIM, SOA, OAM, I would put OID and OVD on one server and OIM, SOA, OAM on another. The real trick is to separate binaries from runtime, ie. do not install everything in the Middleware Home (similar to the Oracle Home) but share the binaries between servers and have local runtimes on each server.

  • Self registration error in OIM-OID-OAM 11g

    Hi,
We are using OIM,OID,OAM 11G,in clustering mode.We are facing a problem on self registration process.
For every alternate self registration request, system is throwing an error. After the self register user request has got approveod,I have checked the request status in 'advanced' panel its saying ; " IAM-3051103:The create operation on user entity failed in action stage.:"
This is really a big mysterious thing to me,1st self registration was successful,2nd was throwing an error , again 3rd was success ,4th was failure , 5th was success and 6th was failure.

    Hi,
I am assuming in clustered environment you are having two instances running.
It must be an issue with a single server,,because the problem is intermittent.
To see which server is causing problem....just perform the following steps:
    1) Stop server1 and keep running server2..and fire new registration request...
    2) stop server 2..and keep running server1.....and fire new registration request.
Using above, atleast you can see which server is causing the problem...
    Regards,
    J

  • OAM-OIM 11g User Lockout Question

    All,
We have a OAM and OIM 11.1.1.3 installation and i am testing the invalid login attempt scenarios and came across teh following situation. I was wondering if you could give me steps or some pointers for resolving this:
    1. created an account [email protected] as xelsysadm and reset the password on first login
    2. Have the following OIM default parameters (these are the only configs that i could find are possibly related to this)
    XL.UnlockAfter - 0
    XL.MaxLoginAttempts - 10
    3. Entered incorrect password and for the initial 4 times i got the OAM login screen back with an error message "An incorrect Username or Password was specified"
    4. After 5th attempt i just got the error message "Error
An incorrect Username or Password was specified"
    5. I go back the http://oimservername:oimport/oim i get the login screen again and enter [email protected] with an incorrect password next 4 times (total 9 now) I get login screen back with "An incorrect Username or Password was specified"
    6. after the 10th attempt with incorrect password i get a different error message with no login screen "Error
The user account is locked. Please contact Administrator."
    7. I logged into OIM as xelsysadm -> administration -> search user [email protected] and it doesn't show that the account is locked. I lock it anyways explicitly by clicking the button the user screen and click unlock immediately and now enter [email protected] and correct password everything works.
Few questions that i have are:
    1. how do i get the OAM/OIM system to behave consistently, (give an incorrect username or password message until the first 9 attempts with a login screen back to the end user and give them an error message at the end that the accoutn is locked". I am okay with out of the box message text
    2. How will our operations team understand that the user is really locked becuase they have nowhere to go find this information
    3. what are all the places where i will look for this information in the above scneario when the user account is locked by himself. (OVD/OID, USR table in OIM_DEV schema etc)
    4. Are there any other best practices that i should follow in setting up the system.
Thanks in advance for reviewing this.
    Prasad.

It appears to be all happening in OAM. After researching some more, I found this piece at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/doc.1111/e15740/idmint.htm#CACBBIDI.
But never the less it doesn't explain how to unlock the user other than the workaround that i found. Did anyone else had to deal with this.
    x---------------------------------------------------------------x
    2.8.4.4 Account Lock and Unlock
Oracle Access Manager keeps track of the login attempts and locks the account when the count exceeds the established limit.
When an account is locked, Oracle Access Manager displays the Help Desk contact information.
When contacted by the end user, the Help Desk unlocks the account using the Oracle Identity Manager administrative console. Oracle Identity Manager notifies Oracle Access Manager about the changes.
    Account Lock and Unlock Flow
When the number of unsuccessful user login attempts exceeds the value specified in the password policy, the user account is locked. Any login attempt after the user account has been locked displays a page that provides information about the account unlocking process, which will need to be customized to reflect the process (Help Desk information or similar) that is followed by your organization.
    Note:
Oracle Identity Manager does not support automatic locking of a user account after a specific period has elapsed.
The following describes the account locking/unlocking flow:
Using a browser, a user tries to access an application URL that is protected by Oracle Access Manager.
Oracle Access Manager Webgate (SSO Agent) intercepts the request and redirects the user to the Oracle Access Manager login page.
The user submits credentials that fail Oracle Access Manager validation. Oracle Access Manager renders the login page and asks the user to resubmit credentials.
The user's unsuccessful login attempts exceed the limit specified by the policy. Oracle Access Manager locks the user account and redirects the user to the Oracle Access Manager Account Lockout URL, which displays Help Desk contact information.
The user contacts the Help Desk over the telephone and asks an administrator to unlock the account.
Oracle Identity Manager notifies Oracle Access Manager of the account unlock event.
The user attempts to access an application URL and this event triggers the normal Oracle Access Manager single sign-on flow.

  • OIM - OID connectivity Issue

    Hi,
I've installed an Oracle 11g R1 database on one server, OID, OVD on a second server, and OIM on a third server. I followed the Identity Management installation guide for installing and configuring OID, OVD, and OIM on separate machines in a new weblogic domain. I've also followed the guide on setting up LDAP Sync for OIM which I've configured successfully. However, when I attempt to create a user within OIM I get the following error message: "Unable to get LDAP connection and the root cause is - Null input buffer". Does anyone have an idea as to how to go about resolving this issue?
Thanks, your assistance is greatly appreciated.

The following is the trace file that was generated for OIM after I attempted to create a user.

    Regards,
    Ravi.

Your log files too give some hint... Please verify whether following files like .xldatabasekey are present in your environment:-
OIM application intialization failed because of the following reasons:
oim-config.xml was not found in MDS Repository.
Unable to find keystore ".xldatabasekey" in <DOMAIN_HOME>/config/fmwconfig/.
Password for OIMSchemaPassword is not seeded in CSF.
Password for xell is not seeded in CSF.
Password for DataBaseKey is not seeded in CSF.
Password for JMSKey is not seeded in CSF.
Password for .xldatabasekey is not seeded in CSF.
Password for default-keystore.jks is not seeded in CSF.
Password for SOAAdminPassword is not seeded in CSF.
I doubt whether OIM is properly installed in your environment otherwise .xldatabasekey would have been present in <DOMAIN_HOME>/config/fmwconfig..
Also, as far as Weblogic starting in ADMIN mode is concerned, you may try to do the following...
    ps -eaf| grep AdminServer
    Kill the process
Then remove the lok file. i.e. Lock files...
    rm -rf /home/oracle/Oracle/Middleware/user_projects/domains/oimdomain/servers/oim_server1/tmp/*oim_server1.lok*
    rm -rf /home/oracle/Oracle/Middleware/user_projects/domains/oimdomain/servers/soa_server1/tmp/*soa_server1.lok*
    rm -rf /home/oracle/Oracle/Middleware/user_projects/domains/oimdomain/servers/AdminServer/tmp/*AdminServer.lok*
    After that
Take the backup of /home/oracle/Oracle/Middleware/user_projects/domains/<DOMAIN_HOME>/servers/AdminServer/data/ldap/ldapfiles (I mean CUT this folder and save it in Backup folder..
    Share the result with us....

  • OIM-OID provisionning issue with external plug in with AD

    Hi OIM/OID Guru's,
We are using OIM with OID connector and having external authentication plug-in feature of OID with AD. Here we are using OID for user profile storage and doing password validation by using external plugin through AD however we have been
facing one issue which is mentioned below :-
Whenever we are creating any user in through OIM and found that user is provisioned to the OID target source but populating wrong value of attribute orclSourceObjectDN in OID process form:-
    orclSourceObjectDN = cn=OIDTEST3,CN=Users,DC=oracle-test,DC=oracle,DC=com
correct value should be orclSourceObjectDN =cn=OIDTEST3,CN=Users,DC=oracle,DC=com
we don't have any container in OID with DC=oracle-test however not sure how the process form is picking up this value?
However could you please put more light why it is appending wrong DN in OIM process form? Where should i check for this from OIM side?

    Hi Dear,
thanks for your reply and we are using OIM 9.x version. Checked Root DN value as you suggested (see below snap shot for oid resource definition):-

  • OIM- OID Ldap Sync

    Hi Experts,
I had configured OIM - OID Ldap Synchronization. Create/Modify/Delete of users are working as expected.
During User Account creation, user type will be given as Role A or Role B in OIM. This user type is created as Group/Role in OID. Role A or Role B is a group in OID and adds the User DN under this group based on User Type from OIM.
Now the problem is, When i modify User-Type of the User in OIM from Role A to Role B, in OID the user account is not getting added into the changed Groups. And also it is not getting deleted from old group which is assigned earlier.
What are the changes that need to be performed for Group changes in OIM/OID. Please throw some pointers on this.
    Thanks in Advance,

  • Queuing/Retrying 'Rejected' status OID Process Tasks: OIM-OID provisioning

    Hello Gurus,
I have already up and running environment with OIM, OID connector pack and OID as the target system. So when a user data (for e.g. a UDF) is being provisioned from OIM to OID target system; if a process task comes back with 'rejected' status due to target unavailability/OID down; then is there any settings that we can configure within OIM design console that queues up and retries these 'rejected' tasks related to each individual user?
Is there any setting within any of the OID lookups such that we can set a retry count for such process tasks?
The goal is without human intervention all these 'rejected' process tasks should run successfully and be set to 'completed' status. If the target system is unavailable then there should be a way to run all these failed tasks - is my assumption.
Is it by anyway related to 'Offline Provisioning'?
    Please provide some guidelines.
    Thanks,
    - oidm.

But it'll only allow us to 'retry' those specific tasks for a limited number of times and limited period of time. And will this task be retried only if its 'rejected' or it'll be retried for whatever number of times we specified?
What if the target system doesn't come up for the whole day? Can we specify some value for the same in 'Duration' fields?
So all in all if we talk about retrying the failed/rejected tasks we just have these options in hand as far as task 'status' is concerned?
    Thanks,
    - oidm.

  • OHS in front of OAM/OIM

    All,
I configured OHS in front of oam/oim 11.1.1.3. Everything works great, however access_log in OHS does not show username for secure page access in oim/oam. Has anyone gone through this setup before, if so can you please let me know what i could be missing.
    Thanks in advance,
    Prasad.

    It is doable :)
    There are 2 stages:
    1) To simply protect the pages you add a /oim/*...* and /oim/* resources and host in the agent you are using to access the server with (webgate) and then any hits will get redirected to the OAM login page. This should be done by default by your webgate agent AND you need to use the 10g webgate for proper integration (11g webgate is not supported for protectingthe IAM suite yet).
    2) For full integration with passthrough authentication and reset password and self-service redirection you'll need to do more. Look through the Oracle docs on how to do this, it's scattered in a few different places, but here are some tips:
    - if you're using VMs take snapshots before trying
    - you'll need to go in EM to change OIM agent properties, in Weblogic to change providers (use OAMIdentityAserter first and then OAMAuthenticator second) and for full integration use the OIM Ldap-Sync (if you're doing it that way) as the identity store.
    - do not use the automated tools that will magically do it for you like 'idmConfigTool'. They did not work for me, but rather wasted 2 days because my configuration did not fit its profile.
    Good luck.

  • OIM OID sync (IT Resource - Directory Server)

    Hi Friends ,
I am trying to get information about OIM OID sync (IT Resource - Directory Server) but i am not find any link.
I want to find out what are limitation of this sync and how we can control sync attributes.
    Thanks in advance.

If you talking about OIM 11g LDAP Identity Store (the thing that synchronises OIM and OID automagically) then have a look at:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/doc.1111/e14316/dployconfig.htm#insertedID3
There's also stuff about it in the OIM 11g Developers Guide, the OIM 11g System Administrators Guide (LDAP scheduled tasks). The installation guide and entreprise deployment guide may also be useful.
These should all be accessible from
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/im.htm
    Have fun!
