Is there a link between my 10g Application Server login and my 10g database session id?
Will Oracle Enterprise Manager show which end user has which database session?

From otn.oracle.com if you click on Documentation and then select Application Server it is supposed to take you to http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/appserver.html but the link is broken.

Is there a detailed, comprehensive document somewhere that describeds feaures and differences among all major releases of Oracle DB 11g,10g r2, 10g r1 and 9i EE?
I would imagine a side by side MS Excel like matrix.

Sfp-10g-lrm dropping link

I have 2 switches WS-c2960s-24PD-L one of the SFP ports on both are connected to other switches running the 10g-LRM SFP modules. The two 2960 in question are connected by 1000BaseSX SFP modules. When i try to replace the !gigs with the 10gigs (on both ends) the config is the same on both ends. when i swap out the sfp the link will come up for a few mins then drop. i can do a shut/ noshut on the interface and it will comeback then go down again. Can any one give me some idias to try This link is working fine with the 1Gig SFP.

What is the distance of the fibre? If the original was running on GLC-SX-MM then you should've replaced them with SFP-10G-SR and not LRM.

Difference between WS-X6704-10GE or VS-S720-10G-3C 10G port

Toady i have installed oracle forms 10g and oracle 10g db when i run my form it gives me this error how can i resolve it

Hello all;
I have passed on all courses for OCP 11g certification (1z0-051, 1z0-052 and 1z0-053).
I just scheduled my ADM 11g WORKSHOP II to november, 21th, in order to submit the course form, and get my OCP certification.
I have passed today on RAC 10g exam (1z0-048), since I know RAC 10g from long time ago.
My question is:
My RAC 10g certification Will be valid after I submit my OCP 11g course? I look at education.oracle.com and I notice that 11g OCP will be accepted for
RAC 10g certification (http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=186)
Is that correct?
P.S: I know I`m not following the common path, but I know RAC 10g well, and I`m getting certified on products that I know well first.

tksWhen you submit and get verified a valid training course for 11g DBA OCP then that fulfills the 11g DBA OCP requirements so you should be awarded 11g DBA OCP and then that means you have satisified the requirements for RAC 10g OCE (10/11g DBA OCP plus 1z0-048 pass so you should be awarded that also). It all happens automatically after your 11g DBA training is successfully validated.

Confliction between 10g and 10g express edition

hello friends......i had oracle 10g enterprise edition in my system and then i installed oracle 10g express edition...and the problem is that if m trying to login through the sys account then it gets login in the 10g express edition and m not able to gain acess to my 10g enterprise edition database....so
my question is how i should get login in my 10g enterprise edition using the sys account......so please help me out

How are you trying to login, from the command prompt? I don't use XE but if you are trying from command prompt, what happens when you issue,
c:\set oracle_sid=<your EE db name here>After this , try to do the login and post feedback.

Free download of Oracle 10g & JDeveloper 10g(10.1.2.1)

I am a new user of Oracle 10g.After downloading oracle10g from ur site,i was not able to access it on my desktop.The message i see on screen is 'to open this file windows needs to know what programme created it.'
I run Microsoft Windows Xp 2002 version on my system.I thought i should download JDeveloper 10g(10.1.2.2) maybe it might open the file but whot i see on my screen after i have completed the download & i try to open is 'fail to load main-class manifest attribute from c:\documents & settings\....(name of file).'
Pls tell me the procedures/tools that i need to enable Oracle 10g to successfully run on my system.

The files you download from OTN are zip files, so you'll need to unzip them. One thing to make sure is that you unzip keeping the sub-directory structure.
If you are just starting out with JDeveloper - start with JDeveloper 10.1.3 - there is no reason to start with an older version of JDeveloper.

Jdev 10g & BIBeans 10g installation issue

When I installed Jdev 10g (904) and then installed BIBeans 10g (904)
The OraInstaller reported success and the BIBEAN dir was created in the jdev/bibeans/lib/bibeaninfo.jar
But, when I bring up jdev, "Business Intelligence Beans" is not an options among the "New Gallery" ( along with "General", "Business Tier", "Client Tier", "database Tier").
How do I make jdev recognize Bibeans

When you bring up the gallery selection, make sure that you select "All Items" in the Filter By dropdown. This will show the BI items. Also, be sure that you are selecting the correct level to add a new item at in the Navigator as this will change the content shown in the gallery window.

Oralce 10g/Forms 10g

Hello All,
We are currently on Oracle 9i database and forms6i client/server. We plan to migrate our application to the web. Our initial plan was to go to AS 9i release 2/forms9i. A new server has been purchased by our company which will have a lot of space and memory (with around 64 CPU's). But now that the 10g is available my question is:
1. Is 10g really necessary for us if we are not going to use the grid computing capability? I don't see any good reason for us to migrate to 10g other than it is the latest version.
2. Will 10g AS/forms 10g work with Oracle 9i database?
Any help is really appreciated.

Oracle Application Server 10g is not only for customers that want to use the Grid. Its a further development of teh Application Server and Forms also. The Forms version in 10g is similar to Forms9i but provides management enhancements and functional enhancements. Also Oracle Application Server 10g has a CD that only installs Forms and Reports. I would suggest to move to 10g.
Yes, Forms10g is supposed to work with Oracle9i databases.

OCS 10g , AS 10g In distributed configuration on Solaris 9

HI,
Trying to install OCS 10g with single IM and database. but it fails.
First installed 10g release 1 (10.1.0.4.0), created meta directory on this server for AS 10.
On second server installed IM successfully
On third serve installed 10g iAS 10. and it registered with OID 10.1.2 successfuly.
On fourth server I want to install OCS Applications and OCS database without IM as i want to use existing IM. Although installed database 10g R1 and patched it to 10.1.0.4.2 successfully but when OCS installation fail and gives error of OIDs.
Its doesnot create schema in exisitng database so any OCS app cannot be installed.
What could be be reason? If not what is other option i can use for single OID , multiple Application server and OCS Application suite.
I have found from other that Collaboration Suite 10g is certified against Oracle Application Server 10g (10.1.2.0.2 or later - NOT 10.1.2.0.0). You can install Collaboration Suite 10g using the Identity Management and Metadata Repository of your OracleAS deployment. Any ideas ?Should i Install OCS suite first and integrate multiple AS with it?

Install dosnt finished at first when i created separate portal during install and stuck at portal configuration assisstant registeration,
So i deinstalled everyhting and in secodn attempt , used exisitng portal of box two ( application server only) but still portalet configuration asssitant failed.
I tried to manually register it with

BUG: Jdev 10g/iAS 10g debug config docs are wrong

I was setting up my iAS 10g OC4J_Home for remote debugging. According to the docs in Jdev 10g, I have to copy ojc.jar and jdev-rt.jar to <OC4J_HOME>/home/lib. This does not work.
You must actually copy the files to <OC4J_HOME>/home/applib.
In my case, this is $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home/applib. If you create your own OC4J instance, then you must install these files into the applib directory within that instance.
Could someone please put out a definitive doc on how to get remote debugging to work between Jdev and iAS 10g? If it exists, please point me to it!

Dbms_obfuscation_toolkit encrypts diffent for 8i, 10g 32bit & 10g 64bit

The dbms_obfuscation_toolkit seems to encrypt different for the three versions of Oracle listed in the title. Our current architecture MUST support Oracle 8i, Windows Oracle 10g 32 bit(V10.2) & Solaris 10 10g 64 bit(V 10.2). When one of the versions of Oracle encrypt a piece of data the others versions can not decrypt it (I use one common key). Is their some way to make the different versions of Oracle to encrypt & decrypt the same data using hte dbms_obfuscation_toolkit?
I have flexibility with the two 10g versions, but the 8i version is in production and cannot be changed.
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

of with the MD5 algorithm. I'm just calling the
obfuscation encrypt and decrypt procedures.There are multiple encrypt & decrypt methods in that package-- DES3ENCRYPT and DES3DECRYPT use the DES3 algorithm. DESENCRYPT and DESDECRYPT use the DES algorithm. Which set are you using? Are you using the same set in all three environments?
I'm not actually storing the encrypted data or key.
The data when encrypted is stored in a varchar2
variable. The key is also a varchar2 variable. The
data is encrypted when it have to travel over the
wire. The database(s) calls a procedure and one of
the variable is a out type that holds the encrypted
data. The client database then decrypts that data.
The eight character key is hardcoded in all three
databases.I would strongly (very, very strongly) suggest not using VARCHAR2 variables to store encrypted data (or keys). When Oracle sends string data over the wire, it may have to be converted from the database character set to the client character set. If this character set conversion changes the encrypted data in any way, the destination won't be able to decrypt it.
If you use RAW variables everywhere, Oracle knows that the data is binary in nature and doesn't try to do any character set conversion, so it's perfectly safe to transmit over the wire without concern.
