OAS 10g metadata repository creation assistant & database version issue

Hi,
I have to install Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 on a server which already has an Oracle database 11g running on it and I dont want to install another database due to the load factor. I am not sure if I could use that database
(version 11g) for the metadata repository. I know that we can use an existing database for the creation of metadata repository using the metadata creation assistant but I am a bit worried about the version of the database which is 11g whereas the application server and the metadata creation assistant both are 10.1.2.x.
Your help is highly appreciated.
Cheers,
Omer

MRCA 10.1.2.0.2 cannot be used to install a repository in an 11g database. If you want to use MRCA 10.1.2.0.2 with an 11g database, you will need to install a 10g database first, create the metadata repository and then upgrade the database to 11g. Not applicable in your environment as you already have a 11g database.

EJ

    Hi Suhas,
Can you please do the following?

    Good question, rozester.
I encountered this problem also, while trying to install the SSO MRCA 10.1.4.3.1 on 64-bit RHEL5 (though it's at version 5.7 but I'm positive that won't make any difference to the result).
This may or may not match your situation, but when I looked in the log file $ORACLE_HOME/assistants/repca/log/repca_<datestamp>.log, I saw what was probably the reason behind the error:
<$ORACLE_HOME>/bin/sqlplus: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.9.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I think I remember seeing that the link operation during installation had failed, but I hoped it would be OK. And it possibly would have been, if I'd remembered to specify the destination database Oracle home rather than the SSO MRCA Oracle home when prompted (on the page where it asks for database home and log file path). Perhaps then it would have used the sqlplus binary from the database oracle home, and since that one definitely works, it might have worked. But before I thought of that, I did a workaround; I installed the SSO MRCA on a 32-bit RHEL5 box (using the same directory paths) and copied the shared library files to the 64-bit box's shared library directory via scp as follows:
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/lib; scp -pr * oracle@rhel64box:$PWD/
When I re-ran $ORACLE_HOME/runRepca, it then worked without error. Another thing I could have tried is just running runRepca on the 32-bit RHEL5 box, and that probably would have worked too, but it probably would have been a lot slower compared to running it locally on the destination server; it's takes quite a while as it is.
Hope this helps. I'm sure it'll help me if next time I do this I forget what I did before and go searching again ;-)

  • Invalid log directory in Metadata Repository Creation Assistant

    Hi all,
I have on my laptop with OS Vista 64bit installed database version 10.2.0.3.0 and standalone AS (resp. whole SOA Suite) version 10.1.3.3. I wanted to install and configure OID not to separate, but to existing database. At first, I downloaded and successfuly installed Metadata Repository Creation Assistant (as_windows_x86_mrca_101401_disk1/2.zip). But when I run Oracle RepCA, in step 1 of 2: Specify Oracle Home Path, I get error Invalid log directory.
As Oracle Home Path I typed D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1 (as it is in registry)
As Log File Directory I tried D:\product\mrca\assistants\repca\log, D:\log etc.
Could you help me, how to solve it?
    Thanks,
    Peter

There is a Patch for Windows Server 2008.
    -->
    Patch 7497474
Description: 10.1.4REPCA ON WIN 2008: NOT ABLE TO LOAD SCHEMAS USING REPCA INTO THE DB
For me it was the solution. Install the patch (follow the instruction in the readme.txt)
After that the RepCA accepts the Log File Directory.

However when I try to cpio in the file, I get the following error:

    errno: 25, Can't read input
So if I could have you send me the correct cpio file at [email protected] it would be most helpful.

I ended up ordering the full HP 10gAS R2 disk set to get this. Would be nice if someone from Oracle would respond about the bad file though.

  • Metadata Repository Creation Assistant cannot connect SYS

    Hi!
    I have Oracle10.2.0.1.0 running on Oracle EL4. ORACLE_HOME is /opt/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1 and ORACLE_SID is "orcl".
I have installed MRCA in /opt/app/oracle/product/10.1.4.0.1/mrca. After installation, I run MRCA with /opt/app/oracle/product/10.1.4.0.1/mrca/runRepca. When I get to the section to enter connection information, I enter the SYS password but it fails to connect.
I can go into sqplus and do sqlplus /nolog , and then do connect / as sysdba (as user oracle). That works. However, I have the administrator client software installed in /opt/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/client_1, and when I launch "oemapp control" I cannot connect sys as sysdba (I get an insufficient privileges error).
    Please help!

there are prerequisits to RepCA, did you check all of them?<<To be honest with you, no.
The OAS MRCA User's Guide has over 25 pages of install requirements (Sections 1.3, 1.5 and 1.6, and surprisingly, the section for installing RepCA, 1.4 comes before the requirement sections for the database and OID), with lots of rabbit trails to follow (for steps here, go here; this stuff is discussed over there, etc) to follow before you can get the whole picture.
In all fairness to Oracle, there's plenty of information there in the docs, not just in a well organized manner, IMHO. Of course, complexity helps Oracle University fill up training sessions. :) For someone who simply wants a cookbook to get up and running in as short a timeframe as possible so that s(he) can start doing work with these technologies (for example, a Java developer that doesn't need/care to know about Oracle DB administration but that needs access to a DB or Portal instance to work on his/her projects but has no access to a DBA resource) following a long trail of docs, release notes, addendums, and interspersed bits of knowledge is just running out of luck.
So what I did is, since RepCA runs its own requisites check when you launch the installer, and my intended install met all of them (except shmmax being like 4GB; my system only has 3GB) I went with that. With help from this forum I was able to figure out how to proceed with the install... now the message about RepCA not supporting Oracle DB 10g 10.2.0.1.0... on Oracle EL4... if it doesn't work I don't know yet what I'm going to do. I've spent significant time working through the matrix to identify a set of components that can happily live with each other and allow me to do some work!
Thanks for your input. I'll follow the link and be more patient and read more (on the prerequisites) and hopefully I'll be able to navigate the maze in order to help out another newbie tomorrow.
    Thx!

here u can find it out with the installation type which is displayed. It will be only infrastructure if u are not using a seed database , it will be infrastructure + MR if u r using a seed database.
This can also be found by running RDA and checking install actions.

  • Problems Installing Oracle Metadata Repository into Existing Database

    Folks,
I'm slowly going through the process of installing the Metadata Repository into a 10g database, using RepCA I've managed to determine all the DB parameters required for setting etc. The only thing RepCA now reports is missing is the Ultrasearch schema & packages.
I've copied the ultrasearch dirs from the RepCA distribution and placed them in my $ORACLE home dir, I've also attempted to run the admin install script 'wk0setup.sql' which throws out several errors listed below. Hi guys,
I have used copy of that package from Oracle Identity Management installation, version 10.1.4.0.1 and have been able to complete manual Ultra Search installation. It's valid in dba_registry. After that I did run RepCA and metadata schemas have been created successfully in existing database, version 10.2.0.2. Be careful about database version, only 10.2.0.2 is certified with Oracle Identity management, so you need to run patch for upgrade to 10.2.0.2.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need help Installing OID Repository on existing database server using RepCA

I have an oracle database server running 10g (10.2.0.4) and I want to install metadata repository on it. I downloaded the Application Server Metadata Repository Creation Assistant 10.1.2.0.1 (standard edition).
I find that there are no batch files in the download, just setup.exe. When I run that I am asked for an ORA_HOME - when I provide the home where the database is installed I get the message that the home already has the database and the software cannot be installed on it.
How do I add the repository to an existing instance of oracle database server? Also, is the version I downloaded the right version #
    Thanks

    Hi sameer khan,
first let me ask, are you talking about Netweaver04s (WAS 7.00), in this case my answer can give you some hints.
Note 883948 gives information of the installation of an additional usage tye (like BI JAVA)
You have more than one possibility to install the usage type BI JAVA. The most common installation types are:
    1. BI installation and a separate BI JAVA installation with 2 <SID>
    2. BI JAVA Addin Installation in an existing NW04s
I recommend to use option 1:
In case you install a separate BI-JAVA instance, you need a separate <SID> for your J2EE environment. In this case it is not possible to use the same <SID>. This installation can be done on the same or a separate server. Furthermore, you can use a separate database or install the J2EE instance in the same database (--> MCOD). I recommend to use a separate database. Note: In this installation option, Sapinst normally installs a separate user store. With the usage type BI JAVA it makes (in most cases) sense, to use the user store of the BI system, where it belongs to. If you want to do so, "Revise" the user store option before you start the installation and and choose the production client of the BI system.
If you like to use an Addin Installation, another <SID> is not possible. I would only recommend this kind of installation in test environments.
It doesn't matter, which kind you choose, after installation, you have to do the steps for "Setting up bex Web", see Note 917950. This is sometimes a little bit tricky, with Note 937697 there is a Support Tool, which can help.
    Good luck with your installation
    Kind Regards
    Marc

  • Metadata Repository upgrade

Is it possible to upgrade Metadata Repository running on 9.0.1.5.0 database to 9.2.0.4.0 without installing new 9.2.0.4.0 database and running Metadata Repository Creation Assistant?

    We have two different cases:
1- DB created using normal default Application Server Installation:
In this case, DB version can't be upgraded. When the infrasturcure will be upgraded, the DB will be upgraded automatically.
2- It is a Customer DB, Metadata repository is created using MRCA:
In this case, The DB is a normal DB and can be upgraded to any supported DB
    version.
mmm.. some quick research on metalink shows even more steps with certain components. Please make sure you do a proper query on metalink before you start upgrading.

  • Can Portal and OID Metadata Repository be shared?

    Hi
I am designing a solution for my client which includes Portal and OID implementation. I was then posed the question whether the portal and oid metadata repository should be shared. Is there any best practice that anyone can share? Thanks!
    Regards
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
I had faced this question once & I opted to use a separate Database for the Portal Schemas.
I am not aware of any document that details the best practices - but, my deisgn was based on the fact that the Portal Schemas would grow in future based on the number of Portal Pages & Applications. Our Client had forecast hat they would be using Portal quite heavily & hence, a separate MR was the way to go for us.
We just installed a new Oracle Database, used the Oracle Metadata Repository Creation Assistant & registered the database with Oracle Internet Directory. During the installation of Portal, the Oracle Universal Installer offers a choice of Metadata Repositories for the Portal Schema.

  • 9i metadata repository be upgraded to 10g

    Hi,
I hav a question from the customer, they are looking for migration from Oracle AS 10g Rel 1 (9041) to AS 10g Rel 2 (10.1.2.0.2) they wanted to know if they can upgrade 9i metadata repository to 10g in advance of moving their 10g AS Rel 1 environment to 10g AS Rel 2?

Yes, the repository in fact must be upgraded if you want to perform the complete AS upgrade. Upgrade from the 10gR1 to 10gR2 is pretty straight forward. You are required to perform metadata upgrade by means of the MRUA (Metadata Repository Upgrade Assistant) disk, if you don't have it you should download it from the otn download area.
