OAS 4.0.8.1 on Linux: Error with Kernel 2.2.18

Hi,
on our linux-box OAS 4.0.8.1 is running under Kernel 2.2.13 (SMP, SuSe 6.3) without big problems.
Today we have tried to run OAS under Kernel 2.2.18 (the latest stable from the 2.2.x series) but the OAS reports an error while starting a listener (something with ORB error).
Is anybody running OAS under 2.2.18?
Any suggestions?
Bye
Halil

Can any body suggest a link, from where I can download the Oracle database 10g for Fedora Core 3 Linux with Kernel version 2.6.9-1*.
I went through the oracle site site but i was not able to find a one for Fedora 3 instead i found for Fedora 4.
    Thanks.......

You will not find one exactly as you require.
As I suggested in the duplicate link
Oracle 10g for Fedora Linux 3 with Kernel 2.6.9 you need to take a version of Oracle that seems to close to your Linux and then carefully tinker to make it work.,

  • MCE errors with kernel 2.6.32.x

I'm running a dual Xeon machine, x86_64, 8G memory, Radeon HD 4350 graphics.
Back in February, I upgraded the system and went from the 2.6.31.6-1 kernel to the 2.6.32.7-1 kernel, at which point the machine started doing random reboots and reporting MCE errors.  I posted over in the newbie section but marked it solved when a downgrade to the 2.6.31.6-1 kernel seemed to solve the problem.  At that point I did run a memory test and found no errors, and temperature monitoring didn't show any problems.
The machine has been rock solid ever since.
Last night I upgraded everything again, and this time went to the 2.6.32.10-1 kernel.  The random reboots began again, again with MCE errors.  Although I've only caught one of them and didn't get things written down, it did look like different error messages.
I've now been working on it for a couple hours with no stability problems.  Before downgrading, I was getting random reboots every 15 minutes or so.  Other than the kernel downgrade, I haven't changed anything.
I haven't been able to find anything out about the problem, and other than preventing kernel upgrades for awhile, am not sure how to proceed.

Regarding link quality:  I had found complaints from other users (on Ubuntu boards) that the open source Atheros drivers for linux have a problem where they didn't actually utilize the wifi's full broadcast/receive power.
This leads to low link quality even when you are very close to the access point.  The random connection drops happen because your card doesn't hear the AP's beacon clearly enough, and it thinks you've moved out of range of the network.
The advice given was to use ndiswrapper to install the (proprietary) wifi Windows driver for your card (which in my case I was able to download from Atheros' web site).  This boosts the card's power to full, giving you better link quality.
In my case signal level and link quality improved by about 20-30 dBm and 20% respectively.  The connection dropouts stopped altogether.
I've heard mention on some other threads here that the latest ath-drivers in the linux 2.26.32 kernel are improved, so the problem may not be as bad as before.  I have not tried them though, since the ndiswrapper solution is working well for me.

From the testing I did, it appears to have these problems for most of the C++ programs I have written, especially the ones that involve object oriented programming. All programs that I wrote do not have these problems with g++ or Sun CC for Solaris. It does however work fine only for small fraction of the programs I have written. I dont quite understand why it works in some cases and others it doesnt, but I know for sure, that it should be working for all cases when Sun CC from Sun Studio 10 on Solaris 10 for X86 has no problems compiling the same programs.

I tried workaround number 2 from the 3 choices that were listed by horsh. That fixes the mathcalls.h problem but still I have the following errors.

Can someone please respond? There is more to the problem. Perhaps
there are more glibc headers that have problems. In addition, if Sun wants to port the Sun Studio Compilers for linux to be stable on all linux distributions I suggest using VM ware and installing several linux distrobutions as virtual machines and testing this software on each virtual machine to see the problems that occur on each distribution. That way you might be able to uncover more problems to find a solution that will work best for portability on all linux distributions.

  • OAS 4.0.8.1 for Linux: wrksf goes down

After having installed the OAS 4.0.8.1 for
Linux, I have a problem getting it to work.
I use the OAS Manager to start the following
    four processes :
    oassrv "Oracle Application Server"
    wrksf "Cartridge Server Factory"
    otsfacsrv "Transaction Server Factory"
    orb "ORB Servers"
The four processes come up, but after a
minute or so the 'wrksf' process goes
    down.
    After restarting the wrksf in
command line mode (using the owsctl utility)
the same occurs: it stays up for about a
minute or so, and then goes down.
The log files don't show any error messages.
Does anybody have a clue in which direction
    I should search ?
Can any tracing be turned on ?

After I fixed some of the things I broke while searching for the wrksf failure, the PL/SQL Cartridge now works for me too. And, after failing to get the DB Browser to work by loading it into the SCOTT schema, I got it to work by loading it into SYS. (SCOTT can't see the DBA_* views so loading the DB Browser into the database failed.) I haven't tried any Java Servlets yet, but that's next on my list.
If you want to try my wrksf workaround, rather than using Christoph's, here's how you can do it.
    1. Backup liborb.so in the $ORACLE_HOME/orb/4.0/lib directory, just in case something goes wrong.
    2. Using a hex editor, such as emacs hexl-find-file or ghex, to edit liborb.so, find the string "/proc/stat".
    3. Change the directory, "/proc" to something like "/pfoo" and write the shared library file back to liborb.so. You now have the required modified liborb.so.
    4. Make the /pfoo directory and cp /proc/stat /pfoo.
    5. Edit /pfoo/stat and duplicate the first line, which should be the cpu line. This will let the metrics parser handle it. Make sure that /pfoo/stat has read access.
Of course, the values that the metrics code gets are now bogus, but that does not seem to be a fatal problem.
Hopefully somebody from Oracle is reading this and the real fix will be in the mail soon.

But this problem is understandable, as the database is not running. The main problem why database is not running, I have found the reason but do not understand how to solve the problem.
Since, the database was not running, I tried to startup the database, I then came across the following which is my problem (Why so many files are open? Linux OS error says too many files open. See below,

Can anybody has run into such problem and guide me to a solution, please?
    Thanks

    Hi,
yes, this DB was functioning o.k. this configuration script was part of RMAN daily backup.
Last night the backup failed. So, when I opened "Failed job" in the EM, I saw this type of messages.
That was the starting point. Gradually, I tried to narrow down on to the actual problem and found the findings as I have posted.
One way of sovling problem, I thought that, all these processes I would kill and then try to open the database, it might startup. However, that wouldnot lead me in ensuring this won't occur again.
That's why I am trying to understand why it should open, so many processes (why spawn so many .flb files?) Any thoughts you have around this?
I will try to restart the OS as the last resort.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Any time, it happens to you this situation? My database server use a SAN solution, this is a HITACHI.
The solution was restart the database server.
And please, would you me explain why the database down the instance?
    thanks a lot
    chijar

    Hi,
    >>And please, would you me explain why the database down the instance?
In fact, the Oracle server consists of an Oracle Instance and an Oracle database. An Oracle instance is the combination of memory structures that Oracle initializes and the background processes that Oracle creates when you start the Oracle server. A control file is a binary file, which the Oracle server updates frequently when the Oracle instance is running. In your case, for some reason the control file suffered some Input/output error so, the database wouldn't function normally and that's why the instance suddenly shuts down.
    Cheers

The tnsnames.ora file has nothing to do with getting your listener started, but it has everything to do with resolving a connect string service name. As others have pointed out, your listener is not listening on the same port that will be used by any connection requests using the tnsnames you showed. But again that has nothing to do with getting the listener started.
Also, you have 3 different entries for "test" in your tnsnames, which will cause you problems trying to debug connection problems - once you get your listener started - which, again, has nothing to do with your tnsnames file.
As already requested, show us the command you use to start your listener, and the results. Copy and paste, don't describe and interpret.
And please go to your profile and create an alias that looks like someones name. No one can keep up with "user123456"
