  • URGENT:Testing deployed OAS EJB Aplication (JNDI Problem)

Please I need urgently help on this subject matter:
    Environment:
    OAS 4.0.8.2a on NT 4.5 SP5
    Jdeveloper 3.1
    Oracle 8R2
After succesfull deployment of BC4J aplication on OAS I want simply test it. When I click to test on the appModule on the tree, the dialog asking the connection information appears..I choose OAS option from the drop down box.
The error message I get is:
"apps/ejb/ClientesProjectOAS/pkgClientes/PkgClientesModule is not the name of a registered component"
I have tried with other variants too taking into account what OAS Administration shows..but no luck!
Now, WHAT SHOULD BE PUT TO THE "JNDI PATH" and "CLIENT JAR PATH" options. This is the most confusing point to me and there are practically no valid/good information on online help.
    Thanx.
    Best regards,

I have (almost) the same problem. Any idea? My weak english must be the reason, but I cannot find out what to enter into the JNDI and the Client jar path during testing my OAS deployed AppModule.
    Thx,

  • OAS 4.0 - ORB problems !!!

    Hi all,
I have a problem while starting OAS 4.0 installed on Win NT 4.0
(Service Pack 3). While starting, it gives me error:
ORB is not responding. Please restart manually.
I have tried reinstalling the OAS (and also deinstalling it and
then again installing), but it does not work. I have been trying
this for some days without any progress. A quick response will
    be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,

Which NT servicepack do you have? OAS 4.0.7 needs Servicepack 3, and doesn4t run on a higher servicepack. OAS 4.0.8.2 does run on a higher servicepack than 3.

    Your PL/SQL is too old.
    You need PL/SQL 8.

  • OAS portal - Edit Link problem

    OAS infrasctructure and BI middle Tier installation on Windows 2003 server;
    OAS/Portal version 10.1.2.3;
Question: How to get portal Edit toolbar back?
It was there before and I played around with it, but it was gone after I mistakely added a new tab to that section and deleted the tab (or maybe the section). I logged in as orcladmin. Is there a way to get the Edit toolbar back? Thanks in advance!
    Hailie

Thanks for your replies. I can see what has happened.
All of those three things (image of OAS Portal, central heading of 'Portal Builder' and the top-right links to Navigator, Home, etc) are actually contained in one portlet called Navigation-Page for Builder. This portlet is contained in a region which is the top-most region on portal builder page.
So, you have either deleted the portlet named 'Portal Builder' from the top region or have deleted this region itself.
To verify the case, please do the following:
    - Logon as portal user and go to Navigator page.
    - Select Page Groups.
    - Go to Portal Design-Time Pages/ Edit Root-Page
This root-page is the Portal Builder page. Here in edit mode, you should be able to see whether you have the top-most region with no portlet in it, or not.
please check the above items and see whether you are missing just the portlet but have the region, OR missing the portlet+region both.

  • OEM 10.1.0.3 and OAS 10.1.3

    Hi all,
I have a server with Oracle Enterprise Manager 10 Grid Control Release 1 (10.1.0.3) and a server with Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3 (10.1.3.0.0). Is it possible to add the OAS as a target in the OEM?
I tried to install the agent 10.1.0.3 in the OAS server, and the OEM server found the agent, but it seems that the agent did not found the OAS 10.1.3 version.
Could the installation of the last OEM Agent version (10.2) in the OAS server resolve the problem? Or I need to install the last version of OEM Grid Control in the OEM server?
    Thanks in advance,
    André Panisson

When you go through the Installation pre-requisites and Release notes before installation 9which helps a lot), it lists compartible Managed Targets etc. So, it will be advisable (even if you have not resolved your problem) to go through it for future knowledge.

  • BEA WebLogic vs OAS/OC4J: application redeployment

    Hi gang
I'm currently researching solutions to JEE application redeployment, or more specifically when you want to update an existing deployed application on a JEE app server, how can you do so with minimal interruption to the users?
From my research on the internet I've found two approaches, one with the Oracle OAS camp, and another in the BEA Weblogic camp.
Deepek Arora in this Redeploy Web App to Application Server points to an Oracle whitepaper that states the OAS approach is to use clusters. However this article is somewhat old so may not be the most recent recommended approach.
I note that in the BEA documentation for the WebLogic Server here, the documentation details a feature called Production Redeployment (documented here). This feature allows both versions of the application to be deployed, and gracefully moves new user connections to the new application version, while maintaining existing user connections on the old version, eventually shutting down the older application version once the users have disconnected.
What I'd like to know and I hope you can help me with is:
    a) Is clusters still the recommended OAS approach to this problem?
    b) Does OAS support the similar WebLogic facilities, or are there plans in the future (maybe 11g?) to include this feature?
Very much thanks for your assistance in advance. This question has been bugging me for awhile, so it'd be great to hear your thoughts and recommendations. Alternatively any pointers to any Oracle documentation, whitepapers etc would be appreciated as there is a lot to digest.
    Thanks & regards,
    Chris Muir.

    Hey Chris --
OC4J doesn't implement the same side-by-side versioning approach that WLS does -- it's a nice facility from what I have seen of it. We should buy them if we ever get the chance .. :-) Their staged/admin-only deployment model is also very useful for deploy/test/publish scenarios.
In OracleAS 10.1.3.1+ we have the ability to execute a redeployment operation to a "group" of OC4J instances in a serial form.
When a sequential redeployment operation is executed, the cluster deployment handler:
    1. Picks the first OC4J instance in the group.
1.1 The container STOPS the application
1.1.1 Signals to mod_oc4j to take it out of the route table so it doesn't get any new requests -- this happens dynamically with no restart required with OHS/mod_oc4j 10.1.3.
1.1.2 Allows all current inflight requests to finish, flushes any session state updates
1.2 The current version of the application is then undeployed
1.3 The new version of the application is deployed
    1.4 The application is started
1.4.1 Signals to mod_oc4j that is available for service, dynamically added back into the routing mix.
1.5 Starts receiving and servicing requests
    2. Group deployment mechanism waits for the specified timeout period.
    3. Repeats the process for the remaining OC4J instances.
    4. Finishes.
Since we have session affinity with OHS/mod_oc4j routing, any existing client requests will continue to go to their current instance unless it is stopped. So for customers on V1 of an application, they'll stay on it until it is upgraded. Any requests that get serviced by V2 of an application will continue to be serviced by that server/application, unless it is taken down for some reason.
For those applications that are maintaining client "state" within the server, if the application has configured state-replication, then any session state will be maintained on other nodes as the redeployment of a specific node occurs.
In earlier releases, this was documented in a far more manual fashion as something called a "cluster dance" -- where due to the automated synchronization when operating in a cluster, you needed to take instances out of one cluster into another to do the upgrade, then join them back together.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/hi_av/OracleApplicationServer10gR2StatefulRollingUpgrades-WP.pdf
The sequential group deployment mechanism, IMHO offers a much simpler path to do a multiple instance redeployment while maintaining availability.
There's a general doc about this from the same author above here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/hi_av/OracleApplicationServer10gR3HA-WP.pdf
There's a screen cam/viewlet somewhere on OTN I believe that demos this as well.
And a fairly simple form of how-to here which walks you through an example:

  • Some things that bother me after installing BI on OAS

    Hi,
I'm new to BI but have been working with Oracle's application server for years.
I've deployed BI 10.1.3.4.1 on OAS 10.1.3.4. I've also deployed on different versions of OAS and found more problems but the ones below occur on all of them.
The install is on a 64 bit Linux OS but both BI and OAS were installed in 32 bit emulation mode.
Things appear to work but I'm seeing errors that bother me.
After issuing an opmnctl startall I see the following in the default_group~home~default_group~1.log file:
WARNING: Code-source /private/biee/webserver/j2ee/home/applications/xmlpserver/xmlpserver/WEB-INF/lib/toplink.jar (from WEB-INF/lib/ directory in /private/biee/webserver/j2ee/home/applications/xmlpserver/xmlpserver/WEB-INF/lib) has the same filename but is not identical to /private/biee/webserver/toplink/jlib/toplink.jar (from <code-source> (ignore manifest Class-Path) in META-INF/boot.xml in /private/biee/webserver/j2ee/home/oc4j.jar). If it contains different versions of the same classes, it will be masked as the latter is already visible in the search path of loader xmlpserver.web.xmlpserver:0.0.0.
The same error is duplicated for:
    - ldapjclnt10.jar
    - collections.jar
    - orawsdl.jar
    - orasaaj.jar
    - xmlparserv2.jar
    - share.jar
    - mdds.jar
A workaround I found in Metalink or out on the web, I don't recall which, was to replace the problem jar files with the OAS jars. Doing that supresses the error but xmlpserver fails to load.
On issuing opmnctl stopall, it takes atleast 5 minutes to shutdown and results in the following error message:
opmnctl: stopping opmn and all managed processes...
    ================================================================================
    opmn id=<hostname>:6200
    1 of 2 processes stopped.

    Log:
    /private/biee/webserver/opmn/logs//default_group~home~default_group~1.log
opmnctl: graceful stop of processes failed, trying forceful shutdown...
Looking at the log file shows no problem:
    10/05/26 06:12:38 Stop process
    10/05/26 06:12:40 Shutting down...
    - Scheduler DefaultQuartzScheduler_$_NON_CLUSTERED shutting down.
    - Scheduler DefaultQuartzScheduler_$_NON_CLUSTERED paused.
    - Scheduler DefaultQuartzScheduler_$_NON_CLUSTERED shutdown complete.
Again things are working but I'm hesitant to turn this over to the group I support if something isn't quite right

We have the same symptoms on our servers (including production), and nothing's gone boom yet :-)

  • JDeveloper problems

I just installed JDeveloper--I am evaluating using it instead of JBuilder 4.0 since I am building Oracle-based solutions and deploying to OAS. Couple of problems.
First, when I try to run a JSP, I get a NullPointerException message in the browser. Doesn't matter what the JSP is. All of them work great when I run them from JBuilder (using Tomcat) or directly in the Oracle HTTP Server (Apache + JServ).
Second, is context help supposed to work? I cannot get any context help on anything that's not a java standard library. This means none of the Oracle libraries provide javadocs when I press F1.
    Thanks.

First, when I try to run a JSP, I get a >NullPointerException message in the >browser. Doesn't matter what the JSP is. I had this same problem. I'll try to keep it short...
    Description:
I would run/debug my login.jsp page from JDev. The browser would pop up and the login page would display. I'd submit this page to authenticate.jsp and I'd get the NullPointerException error. If I went back to the login page and hit refresh, the NullPointerException would also appear here. However, if I went back to JDev and re-ran the login.jsp page, it would again work. Here's the twist, if I would at this point hit refresh, I'd get the NullPointerException error.
    Solution:
Turns out that I had a "session.invalidate();" line at the top of the login.jsp page. Commenting out this line took care of the error.
    Additional Information:
All this was using JDev 3.2.2. From a previous install, I still had JDev 3.1.1.2 on my box. Tested this same scenario in 3.1.1.2 and I would get the java.lang.ClassCastException error.

but its only failing at that point and i am
not able to procede further is there any one to solve this.

Thanks to all of them who read my problem and tryed to solve it
I my self figured out the problem yesterday night.
I looked at the error message closely
the path in it said D:ORANT/ORAINST/OWS_PORT.STAT
sorry in my topic I didnot typed like this
    please forgive me.
when I am looking at path I found the path is cruked you see there are forward and backward slashes so I thought may be its confusing while reading so I copyed entire CD to hard drive opend ows.vrf and changed manully the path to replace the backward slash with forward saved the file and now I tried to Install.
    At last I installed OAS.
My next job is to post install OAS to configure 8i and OAS.
When I came today I got mail from Oracle support suggesting me to click on startup.exe
instead of allowing it to auto run.
I tried this also but not from CD but Copying entire cd to hard drive even then I got same error.
I mailed my solution to them.
I guess its time to open up a FORUM entirely for OAS on windows NT problems

  • Disco 3i - Session Expired?

I have just installed the Discoverer 3i on NT 4.0 Service pack 5, running OAS 4.0.8.1.
(Oracle 8iEE is on a different server, I have verified TNS and connectivity)
The install went smoothly, and I get the signon screen fine, however when I go to sign-on I just get a web page back that says "Session Expired".
I also noticed that I cannot get to my JServlet cartridges 'Web Parameters' page in OAS, it errors out, it looks like it can't find some Java class or something. I was going to increase the session timeout seconds, but can't get there.
Has anyone else seen this problem?
    Thanks!

In case anyone is interested, I called tech support and they gave me a JServlet Patch for OAS which fixed the problem...

Any idea about what I can do?
    Any help wellcome.
    Thanks to everybody.

    Surely it doesn't have relationship,
A thing of the kind has happened a long time ago me, but it was due to the installation of an Oas on server Linux, I had problems on the ports.
I don't remember well, but it seems me that it was due to ip address in /etc/hosts.
Let me know. Hope you solve this issue.

  • Deploying existing application (forms and reports) over the web

Hi I do have the following environment:
    1) Oracle 8.1.6.0.0 on HP-UX.
    2) Application written using oracle forms6i and reports6i on NT (Client-Server environment)
I am looking to deploy this existing application over the web using 9iAS, sure I don't want to rewrite my application. I did that in the past using OAS 4.0.8 and forms server and reports server.
1)Does 9iAS support that, which one should I install the standard or the enterprise.
2)Do I still need forms server and reports server.
I stopped using the OAS because it had problems and the performance was not that good, I found CITRIX and Tarantella do better, performance wise.
    3)Does 9iAS has improved that.
Any feedback regading these many questions is highly appreciated
    Thanks
    Khaled

Sounds like the ideal 9i As environment (although you might want to consider either upgrading or patching the database - 8.1.6.0.0 does have patches)
You'd be pleasantly surprised with the performance and stability improvements of 9iAS over OAS.
Deploying reports & forms over the web (pure web access, not terminal services like citrix) require some form of web server, reports server and forms server. I believe that 9i AS is totally compatible with the reports and forms developed in 6i tools, so there should be no rewrite at all.
If you have the time, strongly recommend you check it out.

  • Setting ANT_OPTS inside the build.xml

I am using OAS 10.1.3. For the build process, i am using the ant and jdk inside the OAS itself.
My problem is that, i need to set the ANT_OPTS everytime before i run the build script.
I dnt want to do this. Instead, i want to set this somewhere inside the build file itselves.
I understand that, i can set the ANT_OPTS inside ant.bat in $ANT_HOME and can also set ANT_OPTS in env variables.
Is there any way, that i can set this option inside the build.xml ?

Go to ant.jakarta.org. They have numerous tutorials. Do some research first. If you run into an actual problem, then post what it is.

    Hi!
This is possible. Check out the documentation of the SSO Admin Guide and look for third party integration.
Maybe this could also be achieved with the new Oblix software.
