OAS database as oracle production database

hi
can i use oracle 10g application server database to store my data, like i hv developed inventory application and i want store in same database , or do i need to install OLAP production database?
what is diff oas database and oracle database ?
thanks
santosh

For performance reasons and to allow indirection and seperation, you really need to seperate the OLAP database from the AS infrastructure. Therefore to answer your question you need a an OLAP oracle instance for your application data and another instance for your AS infrastructure. Ideally these will be on a seperate box.
However is not uncommon to create an oracle instance, and within this, you have a couple of database one for OAS and another for OLAP and this is a valid topology. You have to do some prep work on the oracle database to ready it for IAS.

  • Creating standby database from ASM production database in standard edition

    Hi,
I am using oracle 10g release 2 standard edition. I recently created a database instance and wanted to create a standby database instance. After sorting out how to achieve this without managed standby and data guard I finally got it working and the shipped archive logs are applied and working well on the standby database.
Now I am thinking of re-creating my production database and using ASM for storage managment. By doing this can a standby database still be created from a primary database using ASM? I want to be sure I can before I commit to using ASM for the production instance and manually creating a standby database from that instance.
Note: I am using standard edition not enterprise edition.

    Hi
For Oracle SE standby, you can visit www.anbultechnologies.co.uk , they have a brilliant product name DRMC which is Automatic disaster recovery solution with automatic failover in case primary goes down due to any reason.
We are using this product for more than 2 years and it works like a dream using Oracle Standard Edition. We have depolyed more databases and Standby solution within the prices of 2 EE edition licenses.
You can give ma try as well.

If Access2000 allows you save the database as an access97 database then you can use the Oracle Migration Workbench to do the conversion. Sorry, Im not the Access expert so I can't say for sure whether the save as 97 option is shipped with 2000. I'll look into it and post a definitive answer tomorrow.

  • Compiling against developer database, running against production database??

    Hello :-)
In our company we have a developer- , a test- and a production database, like most of us, I think... :-)
In former times it was usual to compile forms against the database, that they are running against. But nowadays this is because of new security rules very difficult. Developers have all rights on the developer database, a few on test and nearly none on the production database and even our DBA is (officially) not allowed to use/know the sys password.
The developer and the production database are very similar (both 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit, Linux), but not totally equal. Of course there are differences in database objects, because it's the developer database, there could be differences in installed patches, and the production database consists of 4 Clusters, the developer database not.
Is it enough to compile the forms (6i and also 10g) against the developer database and run the compiled forms against the production database or should we compile the forms, that go in production, strictly against the production database, which is a bit difficult because of our security rules???
    Regards,
    Udo

    Hello, Francois!
Thanks for your answer, but that was not exactly what I meant...
What you describe is, how it should be :-)
We develop, deliver the forms and scripts and "someone" compiles them against the production database.
But our problem is that it would be a lot of "paperwork"(?) each time(!) to get the authorization to get the required rights on the production database to compile all objects.
We have no "production team" that has all these rights and are not allowed to do so...
So I just want to have your experiences, if it is enough to compile against the developer database???
I have made the experience that probably 98-99% works fine, but sometimes there are strange things happening (like not passing variables from one form to another, when a form is compiled against the developer database and the attached library for example is compiled against the production database)...

    Udo

  • How to integrate android application with oracle database using oracle mobile database server.

    Hi,
I developed one web application using oracle database. I want to implement same web application in android. My problem is how to integrate android application with existing oracle database using oracle database mobile server. Can u please guide me how to install oracle database mobile server and how to integrate android app with existing oracle database..
    Thank you.

In the Database Mobile Doc set there is an entire book that covers the Installation of Oracle Database Mobile Server.   Chap 4 of that book contains screen shots and all kinds of information that will help guide you through the installation.   We also have a doc on the different mobile clients.  Chap 2 of that guide covers installs and integration of an android app.

  • Conversion of Oracle 8 Database to Oracle 9i Database

    Hi,
Can anybody tell me the steps to be followed to transfer a database of Oracle8 into Oracle9i?
    Thanx.

That is a big question. The best answer is that you should read the 9i Migration Guide documentation. Also, if you have MetaLink access, there is a "Top Articles" document that is very helpful.

PERL can access both DBs simultaneously.
so all you have to do is write some custom code to SELECT from DBASE DB & INSERT into Oracle DB

  • Standby Database with Oracle Standard Edition

    Hi,
my customer wants to create a standby database for his production database (Oracle Standard Edition 11g R2 @ Windows 2008 R2 64 Bit). Now has somebody a proof-of-concept which explains shortly the concept and how to achieve it.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi
We have the following options :
    1. Oracle Enterprise Edition (EE) - Will have automatically 'Oracle DataGuard' option. No extra license for Oracle DataGuard. We have to purchase Oracle EE for both the sites.
    2. Oracle Standard Edition (SE) - Will not have 'Oracle DataGuard' option. So we can't implement Standby database.
    3. Oracle Standard Edition (SE) - Will not have 'Oracle DataGuard' option. If you want to implement disaster recovery site we have to purchase Oracle GoldenGate for both the sites. But we have to Oracle GoldenGate license for both the sites
    Thanks

    Hi,
You can do one correction here :
Instead of taking full export backup , take export of only those schemas which you want to refresh.
You can use datapump to make it faster.
    For improving speed please check

    Hi,
I'm currently using Oracle 9i DB and Dev/Des 6i. In my case I installed the 9i DB first since in order for me to succesfully create a repository I need a working DB first.
    I hope this helps.

  • Oracle 11g 64 bit on Linux - Restore failure in production database

    Hi guru,
We used to take full hot backup with the help of BackupExec of Symantec in our production database. We have two different oracle database (not cluster).
We defined same policy for both .We defined schedule on Symantec to take full hot backup every night of database on tap drive. At any point of time we maintain only 2 full backup for each database on tap and then recycle it.
Yesterday suddenly storage of database failed for both.?It was complete failure so we did not have any option but to restore last night full backup.
It has done successfully for one database but when we tried to restore second from last night backup it thrown error :
channel ch0: ORA-19870: error while restoring backup piece BE_9kjsfol6_1_1
ORA-19507: failed to retrieve sequential file, handle="BE_9kjsfol6_1_1", parms=""
    ORA-27029: skgfrtrv: sbtrestore returned error
ORA-19511: Error received from media manager layer, error text
then we tried to restore backup of last to last night and it gave again error :
channel ch0: ORA-19870: error while restoring backup piece BE_9djsaman_1_1
ORA-19507: failed to retrieve sequential file, handle="BE_9djsaman_1_1", parms=""
    ORA-27029: skgfrtrv: sbtrestore returned error
ORA-19511: Error received from media manager layer, error text
But we have seen log of Symantec at the time of backup and it said that backup has successfully completed.
right now I am in big trouble I tried almost all possible combination of symantec to restore database but got no success.I used script generated by symantec and tried to run that on RMAN directly but it is throwing same error.
Please help me if possible an throw some light on exception (as I understand it says it is not able to find some piece on tap but we have not touched tap and tap media is completely safe.)
I am pasting complete text log generated by Symantec at the time of restore attempt:

  • Runnin oracle apex on a different server to the main production database

    Hi,
I'm new to apex. I have a large prod db 20TB+. We want to have some sort of a simple frontend to our data warehouse. We would like to use apex.
However we do not want to install APEX schema's etc in our production database.
What we want to do is to install apex binaries and a dedicated database for APEX schema's on a seperate server. Then use this installation to run UI's for our main production database.
Is this sort of confirugation possible.
    Thanks and regards,
    Pritesh

Well yes, you can use database links to access your DWH tables/views from your APEX Database.
Search the forum, there should be plenty of threads dealing with database links and APEX.
