Question about download file in OAS4

Question about download file in OAS4:
I use Oracle Application Server 4.0.7 on my Windows NT 4.0 SP6;
I use PL/Sql Cartridge developer a document system; It's use the
upload/download in PL/Sql Cartridge;
I read the document , the Upload/download in Pl/Sql Base on the
Oracle Application Server's Content Service. the Problem is when I
download a document, If I upload a Html or MsWord file, It will store in a LongRaw column, when me download ; It's tell me can't
find a application to open this file; I will select a application
from list to open the download file;
As normal, It will open MsWord Automatic when download a "doc" file ; also It will open a new window of Browser to view a Html file;
I check the download process on client Browser; when download
file, The content-type always return "application/octet-stream";
Also the download File will lost the postfix of the file,
So Browser don't open the File Automatic;
I think If I set the correct Content-Type , Browser can know how open the file; So I use owa_content.set_content_type procedure
set the Doc file to "application/msword" , but the WEb Server always
return "application/octet-stream";
I didn't know how to do this problem, Plese help me.

I have a Tecra M2 and rely on your email update to ensure I have the latest drivers on my machine.
When I received a Toshiba support email on 14 April 2005 giving reference to a QFE from Microsoft I assumed it would be necessary for my Tecra.
I was very confused when I found that this QFE and subsequent ones posted on the 16 April 2005 relate to Pre SP2 critical updates no9t required if one has already taken earlier advice of updating to Service Pack, at the very least your narrative should make mention of this. I find it very difficult to believe that your updates are two+ years out of date.

OAS4 + RH5/6 Help!!!!?

Has anyone managed to get OAS4 running on RH5/6 sucessfully?
I have been attempting to get OAS4 with the 4.0.7.1 patch
working on RH6 but as yet I've had no joy. I now have everything
working, but when I try to launch a PL/SQL application via the
admin listener nothing happens, and after looking around I
noticed that the admin listener has died.
I have used the script to work around the ps problems (the cgi
scripts to start OAS use redundant ps options, see below), and
so OAS now starts up correctly.
I have checked the kernel settting NR_TASK and this is 2048.
My host name is set to James, there is no domain name which is
exactly what I specified on installing OAS.
I have altered the max # of connections for all the listeners
and set them to 200 [which prevents the Max Connect Count
exceeds compile time limit (connect limit :
: 256) error -- see below].
Any help, or confirmation if anybody has actually got OAS4
running on RH5 or RH6 would be most appreciated.

Work Arounds
I was able to start ORB with some mods to ps command on my RedHat
6.0 and 2.2.11 kernel. Oracle owsctl is using some obsolete
commands to status processes, these don't work "ps mh" and "ps pw
1" and "ps pwww 1"
I renamed /bin/ps to /bin/ps.org
and created /bin/ps with folowing content
chmod +x /bin/ps
#!/bin/sh
case "$1" in
/bin/ps.org
"pw")
/bin/ps.org -w -p $2 $3 $4
"mh")
/bin/ps.org -h $2 $3 $4
"pwww")
/bin/ps.org -w $2 $3 $4

It prevents nesty messages to the console and actual makes OAS
4.0.7 work
You may want to change /usr/src/linux/include/linux/tasks.h
and set NR_TASK to 2048 to increase number of available treads
You will need to recompile kernel to make this change.

First, Developer 2000 (Forms/Reports 6) was never supported to work on Vista. Second, this version has been desupported for many years. Third, what exactly is your question?
Here is the remaining documentation for Forms 6.0 & 6i. Most other references have been removed since this version is obsolete.

is not available in OAS 4.0.7. at that point of time?(at what
point of time). Is it supported now in 4.x? .. if so, can I down

Cartridge implementation on OAS4.0.7 !

hi,
i have deployed my application using Developer server 6 and OAS4.0.7 on winnt sp 3 workstation having 256 MB RAM(non-cartridge implementation). as there are more than 15 users, the application is running very slow. i want to use forms and reports cartridges to make the application running faster ?? can somebody please guide me on how to create cartridges and implement them ??

Hi Saumin,
using a cartridge is not what you expect it to do. The cartridge implementation provides a more dynamically approach for starting Forms applications and further a way to setup load balancing using the Metrics Server.
Since Reports and Forms are not real cartridges (only implemented as cartridges to improve startup) the performance that you'll gain by setting up the cartridge is not what you probably expect.
I would suggest to have a look at your memory
CPU and network.

OAS4 and WebDB linux platforms?

Anyway know if the OAS4 and WebDB for Linux that Oracle has
recently amde available are for glibc 2.0 or 2.1? Or does it
matter? Will they work with either? I know I could go read
documentation but I don't feel their documentation is as reliable
as the posts in this forum :)

I do not know which glibc WEBDB requires but it works fine with
glibc 2.07 from Suse 6.1
The install instructions talk about redhat 5.1: is that glibc
2.0.x?
As soon as oas download is complete we will see what that
requires.

Error running Reports 6i using OAS4.0.8

We have the following architecture:
1. DB Server - Oracle 8.1.7 on W2K server
2. Reports Server - Oracle Reports Server 6.0.8 on W2K server
3. Web Server - OAS 4.0.8 on W2K server
When trying to execute report over the web (using Web CGI setup), we are not receiving any results (web page is blank). Are there any undocumented features that we have to do in order to make this run?
tnsnames.ora file is updated on the Web Listener server, and it points to correct Report Server. Reports Server service is running. RWCLI60 executes (from the command prompt on the Web Server) without any problems (saving result to a file). RWCGI60 is returning blank page always.
Also, do we have to install Reports Web cartridge on the Web server, and do we have to configure application for it in OAS? Problem is we cannot find RWOWS60.dll file.

Report server service is up and running but there is no activity on Reports Queue Manager.
URL I'm using is one from the "Run a Report on the Web" example, and I've mapped "dev60cgi" virtual directory in Listener configuration using <CN>.
Acctualy I've tried both cgi-bin and dev60cgi mappings (e.g. http://<my_listener_address>/cgi-bin/rwcgi60.exe?parameters=values or http://<my_listener_address>/dev60cgi/rwcgi60.exe?parameters=values). rwcgi60.exe is in the right location for both mappings (in cgi-bin and in dev60cgi).
They both have the same result - blank page. We will install 9iAS (it was planned to upgrade, but for some future date).

Has anyone succesfully installed Redhat 6.1 with Oracle 8.1.5
(8i) and OAS 4.0.7 on it? I tried but i stranded now that OAS
seems installed. When i want to start the services it seems that
the orb services don't want to start.
From the GUI it mentions an OWS-20214: CORBA orb processes can
not be started... but if i dig a bit deeper the most detailed
info i can actually dig up is from the ORB control utility:
unexpected exception IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0, from
yocorb.c 780.
I looked at the issue some other people with the OWS-20214 error
message had, where the hostname could not be resolved, but that
doesn't seem to be the problem in this case.
Any suggestions?

As far as I knows, OAS 4.0.7 will not work on RH6, you will have
to wait for OAS 4.0.8 for Linux. OAS3 can run on RH6.

OAS DOES NOT START!!IS IT A BUG IN OAS4.0.8.1

Hello Tech Managers,
I have serious problems in OAS 4.0.8.1.
It starts only 3-4 times but after this
while starting it gives error-08849 for which
the action is none.
Error-waited 60secs couldn't receive initilization message,wrksf couldn't start successfully.
Where can i set the parameter(>60secs) so that there is more time for initialization message?
Could some one throw light on this,please

Installing OAS4.0.8.1 on NT with 8i

Can OAS 4.0.8.1 be installed on the same NT machine that is running 8i enterprise edition with designer,developer. I had the system configured without the OAS. I installed the OAS and could not start any services. The instructions seemed straight forward, but was told that the OAS must be on a spearate NT box. PS. The OAS is in it's own home. Comments. These are the steps .
1. First Yout NT server must have Nt ver.4 with Service pack 5 built in
2.All Y have to do is to Installed Web App
Server on Different Physical location(With Oracle 8i) as different NT user with administrative privileges(Different from the user Y installed 8i RDBMS ).
3. Set TNS_ADMIN parameter for NT Server.
4.Set up the tnsname.ora and sqlnet.ora file
on web app home ,(ie %ORACLE_HOME%\net80\admin ) as same as those on your Oracle DB HOme ,(ie %ORACLE_HOME%/network/admin )
After this if You follow the installation guide ,Post installation task ,
Every thing will work..

I have the same setup.It involves many steps. To highlight,
1. You will have to first create listeners in ur OAS
2. Map virtual paths for your application directories in that listener
3. Configure ur baseHTML file (Sample available under /forms60/java/oracle directory)
4. If u r using ICONS in ur forms, use GIF equivalents instead. You can either use the GIFs given by oracle or create ur own. The names of the GIFs should match the name of the ICONs
5. Set the "defaulticonpath" variable to virtual directory pointing to the GIF icons. This is to be set in the "registry.dat" file found in /forms60/java/oracle/forms/registry directory.
You'll find details in the document provided in your ORACLE_HOME or in
http://otn.oracle.com/doc/appsrvr4082/installation/inst_nt.pdf document.

In the release notes for the latest XSQL Servlet it mentions that the servlet will run on OAS 4.0.8.1 wiht the "JSP Patch".
Can you elaborate what the JSP patch ?
Is it the JSP download available from technet or is it something I need to download through the PATCHES link in Metalink.

Can't start the orb of OAS4.0.7 on Redhat 6.1?

I have installed OAS 4.0.7 on Redhat 6.1.
After installed, I started the node manager as the command, owsctl start -nodemgr.
It's work well.
After that, I start the others. But I have a following error messages when I use the command 'owsctl start'.
Please wait while the command is being processed on host thor ...
Starting ORB processes...
waiting for ORB to be ready...
ORB is not responding. Please restart manually...
and it doesn't work any more.
I want to know the follows;
i) How can I collect the above problem?
ii) Is it impossible to work the OAS 4.0.7 on Redhat 6.1? I heared it the products of that version impossible to anyone, and if u like to use it, then u should wait the next version. Is it true?
