OBIA installation in UTF-8

Hi all,
We're going to setup an OTAP environment for OBIA on EBS 12. Has anybody got experience putting the OBIA databases in Unicode?
I.e. will the BIA installation of the OLAP schema use the correct length semantics when installing on an UTF-8 instance?

No, the source is WE8ISO8859P1.
The only thing I could find is that the source should be a subset of the target, which I think should be the case if the target is UTF-8

  • OBI Installation on AIX

    Hi ,
I am looking for documentation specific to following:
Install Oracle OBI 10.1.3.3 on Unix Environment
    a.     OBI Server on Unix (AIX ) environment
    b.     OBI Web Server on Unix (AIX) and host on Apache Tomcat.
    c.     Informatica on Unix (AIX)
    d.     Oracle DAC Server on Unix (AIX)
Specific documentation on each of the them would be of great help. I would also appreciate if we can pre-requisites instructions too. E.g. Java on AIX
    Thanks and Regards
    Alok

OBIEE 10.1.3.4 is basically a Windows application that has been ported to other platforms. Unfortunately, the Administration Tool only runs on Windows, so you will need to install OBIEE on AIX and on Windows, then delete what you do not need on Windows so you are left with the Administration Tool only.
On Windows, I installed 10.1.3 OAS (J2EE + WebServer), then did an Advanced Installation of OBIEE on WIndows, and installed into the 10.1.3 OAS. Then I deleted the 10.1.3 OAS so I was just left with the Administration Tool. Make sure you have 10g client installed on your WIndows machine, then configure your ODBC datasources per the Oracle By Example fpr OBIEE:
Creating a Repository Using the Oracle Business Intelligence Administration Tool
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_bi/bi_ee_1013/bi_admin/biadmin.html
On AIX, you need to decide if you want to do a Basic or Advanced Installation. Do not install OBIEE into the R12 10.1.3 Oracle Home, but if you have another 10.1.3.3 or higher OAS in use on AIX for Demantra or SOA Suite, you can use that with an Advanced Installation.

  • Installation error for OBI 11.1.1.5

    Hello,
In the middle of OBI installation(28%) on a virtual machine(windows XP 32 bit) I receive the following error :
    Installation failed
    OUI session failed
Invalid entry size (expected 359303298 but got 182344 bytes)
What can I do? I made all the steps from the Installation Guide ..how can I fixed it?
    Thank you.

You need at least 2 GB RAM. If you are running Enterprise install you are going to need 4GB. Anything below that is just very slow performing. If you go the simple install route, you can get away with 3 GB.

  • OBI11g installation on Windows Server 2008 R2 (64bit)

    Hi,
Sorry to pick up this topic again, but my research in the forum and other inet sites doesn't help me so far and my installation will not work.
    My Situation:
    I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 (64bit) default installlation. The server (HyperV-managed) has 4 GB RAM.
I added a Loopback adaptor and set for the loopbackadapter a fixed IP (10.10.10.10 Subnet: 255.255.255.0).
Entered in the host file (127.0.0.1 localhost and 10.10.10.10 servername)
    Installed JDK 64bit
    Installed Oracle Client 32bit
Then I tried all three options:
    1) Default OBIEE Installation --> start of coreapplication_obips1 has failed. Everything else was fine. I was not able to start the obips1 manually
    2) Enterprise Installation --> start of coreapplication_obips1 has failed. Everything else was fine. I was not able to start the obips1 manually
    3) Manually installed WebLogic 1033 --> SoftwareOnly installation of OBIEE --> manually start config of OBI Installation --> same result as above!
Perhaps you have some hints for me.
    Cheers
    Wolfgang

Not in the slightest - I installed five just the other week
All our virtual machines, running 2008 R2 x64. We went for Enterprise Edition, but I believe in CF9 they're both 64-bit anyway. These are the from the build notes I built up:
      Install extra roles:
        Application Server
        Web Server (IIS)
          Application Development
          IIS6 METABASE Compatibility
      Install extra Features:
        SMTP Service
Other than that nothing else needs doing. It's worth noting (as a slight but irritating aside) that in 2008 R2 the SMTP service is set to Manual not Automatic, so you'll want to change that unless you want your emails to stop every time you reboot the box.
But the actual install itself was far simpler than CF8 on 2008.

  • Unable to create datawarehouse tables in OBIA 7.9.6.4

    Hi All,
Facing one very strange issue in OBIA installation and configuration. I have installed OBIA 7.9.6.4 on OBIEE 11.1.1.6.9 on windows server 2008. Firstly I have selected Financial Analytics (commercial) app to get installed, so that I get only Finanacial Analytic metadata. But after installation I can see OBIEE repository is containing all the other app metadata as well like Supply Chain, HR etc. The same is observed for informatica and DAC metadata as well.
    However, When I tried to create Datawarehouse tables, It is not getting created, I have selected below options;
    1. On Configuration Tab, I select;
Generate create statement for Datawarehouse Tables
    2. On DataWarehouse SQL Tab, I select; (I can not see the place to enter target schema details)
    Container... Blank
    Is Unicode ... Blank
    Physical Data Source ... ORA_R1213
Change Default Parameter file ... Left it default
    3. Clicked on Start
After it ends nothing get created into target database.
Please help me to resolve this issue.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Kashi

    Thank you Kelvin and Naga,
I was doing one very stupid mistake. The Physical Data Source which I was selecting has to have some parameters like User name, Passwored, Host etc to create the tables in the target database. I have to select Pahysical Data Source as Datawarehouse instead of ORA_R1213 and need to update this connection with DB details where I have create the tables.
I got the solution after posting the query on the forum.
    Thank you for your replies.
    Regards,
    Kashi

  • Why do we need write access to Java installation Directory

We are Upgrading from Siebel Analytics 7.8 to OBIEE 10.1.3.4.
As OBIEE needs Java 1.5 or higher as a pre-requisite we are planning to uninstall Java 1.4 and install latest version of Java 1.5.
According to OBI Installation and Configuration Guide http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/b31765.pdf -> Page 39 "If you are installing using the Basic installation type, make the user or user group permissions
writable for the user installing Oracle Business Intelligence, for all JDK 1.5.0 installation directories,
subdirectories, and files". Can anybody let me know why we need write access to Java Installation Directory??

I had this same question and asked Oracle. Here's what I was told:
    Per Dev:
"For OBI Presentation Services and OBI Publisher, jdk fonts files are copied into the JDK location because we do not bundle our own JDK. To ensure the install can do this you need to ensure that the Oracle BI installer has permissions to copy files to the specified JDK location.
This means that if the same user who installer/untarred JDK is also installing Oracle BI, the install should work. In this case the the permissions of the JDK is probably 755.
It will not work if a root user installs JDK and a normal user installs Oracle BI because the normal user does not have access to write to the JDK location or will not work if the JDK location is read-only, i.e. 444. In this case running chmod -R 777 will work."

  • When to upgrade DAC to 10.1.3.4 during new multi-source OBIA implementation

I want to take advantage of the multi-source capabilities of DAC 10.1.3.4 on OBIA 7.9.5 as I need to bring in data from several production EBS instances. Do I need to create the Data Warehouse tables via DAC 7.9.5 or upgrade the Windows DAC client and Linux DAC server right after installation and proceed with the rest of the OBIA Installation and Configuration steps from Chapter 4? Also, given a Linux Informatica 8.1.1 Server, should the DAC client's INFA_DOMAINS_FILE point to the Linux domains.infa file instead of the dummy Windows one installed to create the pmcmd.exe executable?
    Thanks.

You can only use the DAC 10.1.3.4 against an instance that is fully configured and running. This install is primarily intend to improve the ease with which to stand up additional Admin users. You must complete all of the steps first before you can install the standalone client (1. Install on Windows, 2. Migrate to Linux, 3. Run the Warehouse tool from the original Windows install (the preferred method).
INFA_DOMAINS_FILE is only needed on the server instance. The client tools do not need it to communicate with the Services.
Just to let you know you will not be able to connect to the Informatica 8.1.1 SP4 Server if it was not configured with a Fully Qualified Domain Name.
The following note from My.Informatica.com (ID:18672) provides the resolution. Disregard the 8.1.0 specifics, it will work for 8.1.1
    Good luck,
    Damon
Unable to use fully qualified server name to connect to domain using the PowerCenter 8.1 client
    Problem Description
During the configuration of the domain in the PowerCenter 8.1 clients (Designer, Workflow Manager, etc.), the value for the gateway host is automatically reverted to the simple hostname. This can cause problems in a networked environment, like a WAN, where the fully qualified server name is needed( Example: server123 is used instead of server123.europe.informatica.com ).
The following error may also occur:
Unable to get repositories for domain xxxxx
Error: [PCSF_46008] cannot connect to domain [xxxxx] to look up service [coreservice][DomainConfigurationService]
    Solution
If there is only one client, changing the hosts file on the client machine is sufficient. On the client machine, in the file C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts , add the required line.
    Example:
    10.0.0.0 server123.europe.informatica.com
To make a system-wide change, you need to modify the domain information in the following way:
    1.
    Go to \informatica\pc810\server.
    2.
    Run the infasetup backupdomain command.
    Example:
infasetup backupdomain -da host:port -du user -dp password -dt Oracle -ds SID -bf domain.xml -dn domain
Successfully backed up domain [domain] to file [domain.xml]
    3. Edit the xml file, and replace the existing <host> tag
    Example:
    Change <host>server123</host> to <host>server123.europe.informatica.com</host> .
    4.
Save the xml file, and restore it into the domain with the command "infasetup restoredomain".
    Example:
infasetup restoredomain -da host:port -du user -dp password -dt Oracle -ds SID -bf domain.xml -force
Successfully restored domain [domain] from file [domain.xml] .
    5.
Verify that the fully qualified hostname is listed in the file nodemeta.xml in \pc810\server\config
    6.
Restart the Informatica services with the new server name
    Applies To
    PowerCenter 8.1

  • OBIEE, OBIA on Linux

I am new to OBI and hence need advice on the architecture:
I have 2 solutions: I have 3 Linux servers for the OBIEE + OBIA installation: All linux servers are 2 CPU, 8GB VMs. Which solution is better?
    Solution A:
Server 1: for database. This DB will host OBIEE MEtadata + Informatica Repository + DAC Repository
Server 2: for Infomratica + DAC Servers
Server 3: OBIEE related components + OBIA
On Windows 7 desktop, I will install Informatica + DAC Client.
    Solution B:
Server 1: for database. This DB will host OBIEE MEtadata + Informatica Repository + DAC Repository. Also Informatica + DAC Servers
    Server 2 & 3: OBIEE related components + OBIA

    It depends of your needs.
What I can say is that you need minimum a windows machine if you check the typical topologie.

  • OBI EE topology

    Hello,
I have to install BI Server on a OEL (Oracle Enterprise Linux) server and Presentation Server on another OEL server. Should I install OAS on both machines ?
    Regards

In one of the installer steps you need to enter the path where OAS is installed, and also the password for oc4jadmin user. Right now I have two OAS instances, on two different machines. In both of them, the OBI installer deployed some J2EE applications. On the server where OBI Server is installed is deployed something called bijmx; on the second server there are deployed the following applications: bianalytics, bijmx and bixmlpserver.
My question: is possible to skip/avoid the OAS installation on the server where OBI Server will be running ?
