  • CS6 says "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect..."?

CS6 won't open--whenever I try to open a CS6 application, a windows pops up and says "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail." This occurs for every single CS6 program (PS, Flash, etc.) except Illustrator. Illustrator is the only one that will open.
I have Windows 8. I've had CS6 for about half a year and this is the first time this has happened.

    Did you ever find resolution?

Basically i just want to know 3 things: What exactly does consolidating the itunes library do? Can i copy, paste, and transfer my itunes library to an external and from there to a new pc? Will i be able to transfer my itunes library without consolidating the files?

I have found a temporary solution, allowing the previous version of iTunes (v. 11.1.3 (x64) in my case) to be re-installed.  It will allow you to re-establish use of iTunes until the Apple software engineers fix the most recent disasterous upgrade (v. 11.1.4).  Please see and follow the procedure in the following article:http://smallbusiness.chron.com/reverting-previous-version-itunes-32590.html   The previous version works beautifully.

I am getting an error when I launch Premier Pro that says, "The application has failed to start because side by side configuration is incorrect." I have the Production Premium Suite and all the programs are running fine except for Premier Pro

    Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the reply. I tried that yesterday, it din't work and actually caused the same error for my other Adobe software (eg Flash, Illustrator, etc.) I had to do a system restore to get things back working. All my other programs are fine except for Premier Pro.
I updated my all my MS Visual C++, still same problem. I also tried this - How To Fix Side-By-Side Configuration Error Step By Step (Windows 7) - YouTube
Still getting the same error Premier Pro.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • The application has failed to start because msgpept.dll was not found.

This started today.  No warning.  Haven't installed any new applications.  I run current copy of Zone Alarm.
The message starts when the machine boots and continuously thereafter.  I cannot access email and most programs.
I googled the dll -- no luck .  Can;t find anything.
    Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks

I had that happen with a corrupt .dll and simply replacing it with a clean version worked for me.
The file should be in the application's root directory, i.e in ..\InDesign CS3\ wherever you've installed it. The current verion of the .dll is 5.0.4.682, and that also is the current version of InDesign CS3 (except possibly if you installyed the ME or other localized version). If you haven't already, download and install the 5.0.4 patch and see if that fixes things. If not, post back.

  • Installing Latest Firefox on Windows XP Embedded gives error: "This application has failed to start because pdh.dll was not found"

I'm trying to install the latest (standards-based) browser I can on on old Windows XP Embedded computer. The computer's hardware does not meet the "Recommended Hardware" of a Pentium 4 (it has a P3). I initially tried installing/running Firefox version 28, and that seemed to work fine. Version 36 gives the error I stated in the question. It's not paramount that I run the *latest* version of Firefox (the browser is ONLY used for an intranet application), but I'd like to install the latest version that will run, and if there's a simple fix for this version, I'd like to explore that.
    Regards,
    Gerrat

Well, I was pretty sure it didn't have malware. It was running a steady state - like program & we have dozens of these on our network (but not on our domain). We have a corporate anti-virus (Sophos) running on all the computers on our domain, and there are no notifications of anything suspicious coming from these units.
Just to be sure I installed and ran an antivirus scan against it though - as suspected, nothing suspicious found.
As I mentioned, FF 28 runs fine, it's just the latest (36.0) that doesn't run (I haven't tested any versions in between). Either seems to install without hitch, but when the latest version is run, it gives the error about the missing dll.

  • Since upgrading to FireFox 6 I cannot run Firefox in Avast Sandbox - get error "This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found". Firefox works fine outside Avast Sandbox.

    The error box is entitled
firefox.exe - Unable To Locate Component.
It suggests re-installing may fix the problem but I've un-installed and re-installed firefox a number of times and no change.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • After updayting fire fox the applixation will not open I get a message that says the application failed to start because its side -by - side configureation is in correct. please see event log or use the command sxstrace.exe tool for more detail

    See:

Seems to be caused by a corrupted Visual C++ installation (multiple versions can be installed side-by-side; SxS).
You can try to use the sxstrace.exe tool to see if you can find which files are missing or corrupted and (re)install missing Visual C++ libraries.

  • This application has failed to start because msvcr71.dll was not found

    Hi,
I just downloaded the Flex 3.3 DK from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=flex3sdk
Once unzipped I went to run this:
    C:\DATA\My Documents\_jim\flash\open-source\_Software\flex_sdk_3\bin\mxmlc.exe
When I ran it, I got this error
This application has failed to start because msvcr71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem
I searched on Google, and found this:
    http://www.flashdevelop.org/community/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2932&start=15
So from there, downloaded "msvcr71.dll", placed here:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32
And ran the following in the Command prompt: regsvr32 "msvcr71.dll".
When I did that, I got this error message:
msvcr71.dll was loaded but the DLLRegisterServer entry point was not found
    The file was not registered
I saw that the DLL is related to Microsoft Visual Basic Runtime, so I deleted the dll I saved manually, and ran the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86) from here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/thankyou.aspx?familyId=9b2da534-3e03-4391-8a4d-074b9f2b c1bf&displayLang=en
Once done, the dll was not placed in the System32 folder.
I tried the manual install of the DLL again, but on trying to register it again, got the same error message.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Seems like I might have hit a brick wall.
    Thanks

What operating system? 32-bit or 64-bit?

  • This application has failed to start because smerrlog.dll was not found.

I wrote some code call crystalreport with VB. Net. Sometime, we encounter the error "This application has failed to start because smerrlog.dll was not found". Is there anyone know this? I can't find the smerrlog.dll file in my system, but the report works well. Does anyone konw this file. What usage it has?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Guys,
You need to download the latest set of patches and their matching set of merge modules.
Those files belong to Computer Associates now and their Siteminder Security plug in. It ships with CR products.
There should be 3 files: SmAgentAPI.dll, smcommonutil.dll and smerrlog.dll in the \system32 folder. According to other sites liekly you are missing the smcommonutil.dll or it's out of date.
To get the latest merge modules and service pack click on these links:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100001088442009E/crxir2sp5_net_mm.zip
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100013876392008E/crxir2win_sp5.exe
There are updates to those also but this gets you to SP5.
As a quick fix try copying them manually and test again.
Possibly some other application on your PC's is using SiteMinder security and Cr is trying to load them but then they are not required and carries on once you click the OK button.
You could add in logging in your app and find out what API is being used at the time and use a try/catch method and if the exception pops up catch it and ignore it so the end user doesn't it.
    Thank you
    Don

  • HT6001 I have tried numerous time to update iTunes to Version 11.1.4.  Each time it has failed. I get the message of "This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found".  Also I get a message of "Error 7". Advise please.

I have tried numerous time to update iTunes to version 11.1.4.  It has failed every time.  Now I can't even get into iTunes on my PC.  The message I get is "This application has failed to start because MSVCR60.dll was not found.  Re-installing the application may fix the problem."  Okay. Which application?  What steps are needed for this process?
Also, I get this message "iTunes was not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes.  Error 7 (Windows error 126)"  Could someone please assist me in the steps necessary to remedy this issue.  Thanks.

For many users at this point in time (iTunes 11.1.4.62) uninstalling iTunes alone is not enough and they may need to undertake further steps...
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
