OBIEE 11.1.1.6.7-8 is certified to use CENTOS 5.x?

AFAIK CentOS is never on the certification list (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-enterprise-edition/bi-11gr1certmatrix-166168.html), but because it's so closely related to RHEL and OL, you can take their certifications as indicative.
So RHEL 5x and OL 5x are certified, so you'll find CentOS will probably work just fine -- but if you have to raise a support case you may have problems because it won't be officially certified/supported.
You will probably need to specify -ignoreSysPrereqs when you run the OBIEE runInstaller

I went through many topics on forums on how to upgrade the rpd and webcat from 11.1.1.5 to 11.1.1.6,it was mentioned that :
The obiee11.1.1.5.0 RPD,Catalog are supporting in obiee11.1.1.6.0 version. but should deployee it via Weblogic EM(FMW)

I tried using the same rpd and webcat from obiee 11.1.1.5 and followed the above steps but after services are successfully started I cannot open the rpd in online mode it throws the error:
Successful completion of init block 'FndGetSecContext' is required.
could not connect to the bi server instance
and also on opening webcat its not accepting the paassword which earlier it had accepted.
Can someone please let me know what could be the cause for the above issues.

Hi,
befor deploying your obiee11.1.1.5.0 RPD file just open as offile mode via obiee11.1.1.6. rpd then try check the
metadata gloable consistency (ctrl+k) then make sure no error i hope there is some issues on your init block its making problem just fix it then try deploy it and refresh GUID then try to login analytics it should work.
Note: there are some init block (I hope this init block FNDGetSecContext having problem just double check )
are failed just make sure and delete unused variables and init block and one more thing are u integrated with EBS?

Best practice for making a report of 10,000 to 20,000 rows(OBIEE 10.3.4.1)

My Scenario is like this:*
Hi i have 2 fact tables fact1 and fact 2 and four dimension tables D1,D2,D3 ,D4 & D1.1 ,D1.2 the relations in the data model is like this :
NOTE: D1.1 and D1.2 are derived from D1 So D1 might be snow Flake.
[( D1.. 1:M..> Fact 1 , D1.. 1:M..> Fact 2 ), (D2.. 1:M..> Fact 1 , D2.. 1:M..> Fact 2 ), ( D3.. 1: M.> Fact 1 , D3.. 1:M..> Fact 2 ),( D4.. 1:M..> Fact 1 , D4 ... 1:M..> Fact 2 )]
Now from D1 there is a child level like this: [D1 --(1:M)..> D1.1 and from D1.1.. 1:M..> D1.2.. 1:M..> D4]
Please help me in modeling these for making a report of 10,000 rows and also let me know for which tables do i need to enable cache?
PS: There shouldn't be performance issue so please help me in modeling this.

There are various ways of handling performance issues if any in OBIEE.
Go for caching strategy for complete warehouse. Make sure to purge it after every data load..If you have aggr calculations at higher level then you can also go for aggregated tables in OBIEE for better performance.

XML datasource in OBIEE

We are trying to setup a dashboard to show data from some webservice. The webservice returns data in xml format which does not meet the requirements of the obiee xml gateway component. So we created a cgi app that preprocesses the xml file returned by the webservice before import it into the physical model obiee. The cgi app looks like this http://someserver/test.cgi.
The cgi app returns the data in a html page which contains serveral xml islands (<XML id="123">...</XML>). The Admin Tool is able to import the physical layer schema from it and create one table for each xml island found in the result. It appears to me that we don't have control over the names of the table generated and they are default to the name of the cgi page plus some index number, in this case, the tables names are "test_0", "test_1", etc. Any change to the table name will cause the presentation layer widget to report errors like "couldn't find table <sometablename> in http://someserver/test.cgi loaded".
We can settle with default table name generated. But we need to be able to pass some parameters to the cgi app to generated data dynamically which obiee seems to have problem. Whenever we use a url like "http://someserver/test.cgi?target=data" to import the schema (the data returned by this url is exactly the same as the previous url without the target param), the Admin Tool will report something like "Some objects are not imported because of Invalid names".
I saw from the obiee documentation that the xml gateway adapter supports dynamic xml/html generated from a url which can have parameters containing even session or repository variables. But I even couldn't get it to work with a constant parameter. Can someone tell me what I have been doing wrong? Or pointing me to some examples that take dynamically generated xml data as data source?
BTW, we have obiee server running on a linux rehl5 server and we use the admin tool from a windows machine to manage all the metadata.

You can't use XML data sources for Init Blocks, it's not supported. I wish it was because I had a need for this the other day.

OBIEE integration with ADF

I want to pass some parameter from adf screen to OBIEE based on which OBIEE report will be generated.
I know we can use BI ADF Components to embed report created in OBIEE into jspx. but how to pass parameter from ADF page to OBIEE.

The question is what interface does OBIEE provide for accepting parameters?
If it reads parameters from the URL you can use a goLink component in ADF Faces that has the URL constructed at runtime.
If it uses Web sevices to invoke reports and pass parameters you can do WS calls on the model layer.

Discoverer 4i to OBIEE migration methodology - Oracle Recommended Way

Hi,
We are looking into a scenario where we are required to migrate large number of Discoverer 4i reports to OBIEE. We have good number of custom reports(approx 200) and views too that are to be migrated.
Am aware about the migration assistant that comes along with OBIEE 10.1.3.4. It's a very useful tool, BUT we need to consider the following facts before proceeding:
1. The tool is not for migrating Oracle E-Business Suite Discoverer reports (BIS).
2. The minimum version of Discoverer EUL that can be used with the Assistant is 10.1.2.n.
3. The version of the RPD file that is generated is dependent upon the installed version of Oracle BI EE that the Assistant is run against but must be a minimum of 10.1.3.4.
What is the Oracle recommended approach... complete rebuild of the repository in OBIEE/ Migration from 4i -> 9i ->10g and then to 10.1.3.4/...?
Appreciate inputs from the product gurus and experts.

Ok firstly I'm not sure there is an Oracle recommended approach for migration,.
However based on my experience at an eBS client - the Discoverer workbooks were very different from what we wanted to achieve with our new OBIEE dashboards. The Discoverer folders were based on complex views which joined relevant OLTP tables together and contained both Dimension attributes and Facts in the same folder. They were used by our users mainly to extract data at the transaction level into Access databases, this is something we were keen to move away from, and adopt a more Analytic top down approach, drilling into the detail as in Disco. This did require some additional work with our user base to see what they were actually doing in Access and if we could do this in OBIEE, which in most cases we could (although we did use Apex in places too).
We looked at the migration tool, and it seemed to do a decent enough job technically, however for the reasons above ie. the move towards a top down solution we decided on a manual build approach.
The model for OBIEE had to be different, we broke down the views into their component Dimensions and Facts for - whilst the Physical model was 3NF, we ensured the Business model was a pure Star Schema (this was recommended by Oracle). The Subject Areas were kept quite small, and aligned to the business process, no more than 10-12 logical tables with a couple of fact logical tables, and most of all our dev teams had a set of guidelines to follow to ensure we had consistent repositories (Object Names, Ordering, Logical Levels etc..)
If you are using eBS i would have a look at some of the BI Applications Oracle have produced, you may get a good idea for best practise and standards for producing a repository from them. Also the new 10.1.3.4 dashboard has some examples of good layout, and some nice tips (ie. One Answer per Dashboard page, Prompts at the top etc...etc..)

Migration of Discoverer 1g reports to OBIEE

we are trying to migrate reports from Discoverer 10g to OBIEE 10.1.3.4.We have migrated the EUL using the utility tool provided by OBIEE.
Now we were trying to use the sample reports and migrate the same to OBIEE 10.1.3.4.
We are using a sample xml which we will be using to migrate the reports .We have a web service which takes report inputs in this XML format, converts and save OBIEE reports.
SInce OBIEE does not have tabs(worksheets) like Discoverer,we thought
we will have to prepare xml for each tab and present it as a single
report in OBIEE.
1) Can u please suggest if this is right or there is some
workaround for it or if anyone has idea about it?
We could also do some changes to the xml to incorporate some functions of discoverer if anyone has suggestions.
We are assuming that Crosstab reports are similar to Pivot tables in OBIEE.
2) But we are not sure how to incorporate the page items in thexml.plz suggest if anyone has ideas since not sure if page items can be handled in OBIEE.
3) Can someone help us in completing with this below xml by taking example of the sample reports present in discoverer.The values of reports are to be included in the xml
Any help would be great since we are trying this for the first time and we are not well versed with xml too.Please find below the sample xml we are using

I opened the Discoverer administrator and clicked on export.
in next step i selected the option "Selected obects in the end user layer" for "what do u want to export"?
i choose workbook and selected the sample workbook "Video Tutorial workbook"
Then i gave the name "Video Sales Tutorial" and saved the file in a folder and selected the check box "generate xml for exported workbooks"
I got the file in the folder as Video Sales Tutorial.eex.That .eex file had details of the workbook name and all other information

But to get these workbook details we have to always save the workbook in the DB.We cannot save the workbook in our file system.
Am i right?Since only workbooks which are in DB can be exported.

OBIEE report based on same criteria but different view based on filter

Hi,
I am trying to create a report in OBIEE 11.1.1.5 where In the same report using the same criteria, I can have different views which applies different filter.
Suppose, I have a report criteria as
Dim1, Dim2, Measure1, Measure 2.
I want to create two pivot view based on the same data.
One view will be showing data Dim1="Value1". The other view is duplicate of this view but will show data Dim1="Value2".
Is it possible in OBIEE?
basically what I want is work on the same dataset but different representation and show them in the same report. Please share your opinion.

You create a new dim dummy column in criteria and in presentation level create new pivot table view use this dummy dimension column and filter with dim1=value2.

Linking to an OBIEE report without showing the user and password

Hi!
we are trying to access to an obiee report from an external portal (coded with php).
The idea is that the user clicks on a link an gets the report in pdf format. For that purpose we are using this url:
http://ttivobiee01:7001/analytics/saw.dll?Go&Path=/shared/Prueba/ogp_obi&Action=Print&P0=1&P1=eq&P2="Criteria"."Key"&P3=1402&NQuser=user&NQPassword=pass&format=pdf
But this url is expossing OBIEE's user and password.
In order to avoid this security issue we tried to do an wget of the url but it doesn't return the report. Instead we get an html, which seams to download the report chunk by chunk (using javaScript).
The question is, is there any way that we could let our portal ussers access to an obbie report without expossing the user and password?
I have been looking into oracle forums and have found this: OBIEE Go URL with password protected
but we couldn't use this aproach due to security issues.

OBIEE 11g Scheduler installation error on Linux box. Please help!

I'm trying to install OBIEE on a Linux box. The repository was created using a Windows PC on a separate Oracle database on another server.
I have four of the five OBI components running but I keep getting this error for the Scheduler.

You need not do any thing additional to have EM running in the OBI 11g instance. Although it is a deployed JEE application, if your Weblogic Server (WLS) is started and up and running then your EM Console should also be up and running.
You say that you are doing everything from the command line. So, start the Weblogic Server then navigate to http://< your server name> : 7001/console
If that comes up then go to
http://<your server name>:7001/em
That is your EM Fusion Console and it should come up as well.
Don't mess with the XML file directly.

Not able to configure Act As in OBIEE 11g - The application is logging out

We are trying to configure Act As in OBIEE 11g. The list of users gets populated when I click on Act As. However, when I select any user from the list, the applications logs out. The possible reason could be that OBIEE is not able to authenticate the user (We are using table based Authentication). Please give some pointers to fix it.
Also, I am curious to understand the authentication process in case of Act As. The list that gets populated is a list of target users from the table. In our case, the username and display name gets populated. But, how does OBIEE check if that is a valid user or not?

Does Act As functionality work with BI Publisher? I am able to login and select Act As and pick a user and view all dashboards, however when I click a PDF embedded in a dashboard page from Publisher, it says Unauthorized Access: please contact the administrator. If I am logged in as myself I can view the PDF. If I am logged in as the user I acting as I can view the pdf, but if I login as myself and act as that user and try and view it, that is when the error occurs, so am wondering is Act As is incompatible with BI Pub.

Dense Lookup Function in OBIEE

Problem after installing OBIEE 11.1.1.5

Hi,
I installed obiee 11g on a windows server. But i dint use a service account,but installed it with another user account which had all admin privileages.
Now, i logged into the server and All programs-->Oracle Business Intelligence --->start BI services.
So, all the services are up and running. I can login to EM,Console and analytics.
But after i logoff the session all the services are down and i cannot login into em,console.
Is it compulsory that we should use Service Account for installation...?
Any Help asap will be greatly helpful.
