OBIEE 11.1.1.7 & BI publisher

Hi Experts,
I am newbie to BIP
I had installed OBIEE 11.1.1.7 along with that I installed Bi publisher 11.1.1.7.
I have configured Microsoft Active Directory in the weblogic server. All the users who are in the Active directory were able to login to OBIEE.
When I login to OBIEE using weblogic user. it won't allow me to login to BIP.
My Questions:
1) How to I allow all the users who are in active directory to login to BIP?
Do I need to again configure LDAP again inside BIP.. Please guide me....
2) I see some posts where expersts sugges to redit xmlp server config file and replace oracle_AP_JS to "XDO"
What does this do...

We're having a similar issue. After upgrading to 11.1.1.7 in our development environment and performing our usual security customizations, we're unable to connect to BIPublisher through the OBIEE Analytics
Our security customizations include a ReadOnlySQLAuthenticator to pull users and groups from an external database an an OAMAsserter to enable a single-signon system to use a log in. However, note: the problem has been occurring for accounts which are not provisioned by the ReadOnlySQLAuthenticator or signed in by the OAMAsserter.
Do you have any security customizations in your environment?

OBIEE 10g Dashboard Design- Embedding BI publisher report

Hello all,
i am trying for a specific layout functionality in the dashboard page.
i want to display all the (BI publisher) report links in one section and upon clicking on each link the report should open in another section but in the same dashboard page.
like i will create two dashboard columns where one would display report links and other would have section for the report display.
please help me in acheiving this functionality as this is an important requirement for the client.

OBIEE (Windows) Ceate report in BI Publisher gives error

Error in BI publisher integration with OBIEE with SSO

Hi,
Whenever we click on BI publisher in OBIEE(More Products-> BI Publisher) which is Sitemider protected we are getting the below error.
Reporting Login: Login failed. Please contact Administrator for your username/password.
Even at the BI publisher , at the SSO section below setting are given.
Single Sing-on Type: CA Siteminder
Single Sign-off URL: http://[host]:[port]/
How to get username: HTTP Header
User Name Parameter : EIN
How to get user locale: HTTP Header
User Locale Parameter: LOCALE_LANGUAGE
When I checked the sawlog, after clicking on BI publisher this is error which we are getting.

Hi Kranthi,
When i go through the 1st link, I have noticed the steps which are written for Enabling "Admin" tab in BI publisher.
In my case, i am bale to see the Admin tab.
But the error which i am getting is "Reporting Login: Login failed. Please contact Administrator for your username/password" after clicking on BI publisher in OBIEE which is Siteminder protected.
I am not getting any error, if i disable the SM.
In my case, OBIEE is working on IIS & BI publisher on OC4J and OBI version in 10.1.3.4.1.

OBIEE SSO with BI Publisher integration

Hey everyone,
I did some searching and I found several threads in regards to bhe BI Publisher and OBIEE integration but so far nothing completely solved my problem.
Here's my situation.
Linux OS
Apache web server
OAS
OBIEE 10.1.3.3.2
We've got SSO implemented and it is going against active directory. In order to get that setup, we had to create the impersonator user, had it to the crendential store, setup the instance config correctly ,etc. Also, we had to install MOD_NTLM because Apache does not natively support NTLM like IIS does. Once we did that, the signle sign on works wonderfully and I'm logged directly into OBIEE Dashboards as my OS authenticated user.
As my OS user (which does not have an account in the RPD, only has an account in AD), I try to open BI Publisher from OBIEE going to More Products-> BI Publisher. I get the "Reporting Login: Login failed:" message. When I use the URL NQUser and NQPassword parameters to login as Administrator, I am able to log in just fine.
In BI Publisher, the security model is set to BI_SERVER and all the OBIEE Administrator passwords are updated and current. I've also tested the DSN connection string and created the super user. I've created the six XMLP_* roles as groups in the RPD and added both the Administrator user and the Impersonator user to the XMLP_ADMIN group. I'm starting to run out of ideas at this point. Am I missing a step here to get standard users to access BI Publisher?
I'd appreciate any help on this.

What Group is the default user group for your OBIEE users? Log into Answers with your user account, then check value of Session variable GROUP.
You need to give the User group(s) permissions in BI Publisher. They will need permissions to Shared folders and OBIEE data source.

Dashboard prompt - OBIEE and Publisher

I'm using OBIEE 11g, when I added BI publisher report in the dashboard, it seems like the parameter are not there anymore. How can I add Bi publisher report parameters into the dashboard?

I am not quite clear with your question, but this is how the dashboard prompts and parameters work in OBIEE 11g. You create a dashboard page, and embed the necessary dashboard prompts in it. When you create the dashboard prompts, you make sure the selected value is populated into a presentation variable by checking the set variable option to presentation variable and giving the variable name, the same parameter name you set on the column in the BI Publisher parameter.
Lets take a quick example:
- You are in BI publisher creating a data model, and you got to the point where you are ready to create parameters for the data mode.
- You give the parameter a name ( lets take ABCD123 for instance is the name of the parameter you created).
- In the OBIEE dashboard prompt, you give the same name for presentation variable.
- The variable name synch's up and filters on the value accordingly.

Can we use session variables in BI publisher's Data Model SQL Query?

Hi Experts,
We need to implement Data level security in BI Publisher 11g.
In OBIEE we do so by using session variables, so just wanted to ask if we can use the same session variables in BI Publisher as well
ie can we include the where clause in the Data Models SQL Query like
Where ORG_ID = @{biServer.variables['NQ_SESSION.INV_ORG']}
Let me know your views on this.
PS: We are implementing EBS r12 security in BI Publisher.

Getting Error when creating Data Model off OBIEE Analysis

Hi,
Our BI Publisher is integrated with OBIEE. I am developing BI Publisher report from existing obiee analysis. I am getting error when selecting existing analysis for data Set. Following error gets appear when pressing ok after selecting BI analysis
oracle.xdo.XDOException: oracle.xdo.XDOException: oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParseException: '=' missing in attribute.
I have done some debugging and it seems error is appearing due to presence of dimensional hierarchy in the analysis. If I remove dimensional hierarchy column from the analysis, this error goes away and I am able to save data model and gather sample XML.
Any idea how to handle dimensional hierarchy column in BI Publisher data set?

“Sorry, this is not supported. If the BIEE Analysis has hierarchy columns then BIP cannot use it as a datasource.”

Oracle BI Publisher 10x/11x Integration with Siebel CRM 8.2 Release

Hello Gurus,
We are in the process of implementing Siebel (8.2) Public Sector for one of our client and in term s of reporting we have decided to use latest version of OBIEE and BI Publisher and thus decided to go ahead with implementing BI Apps 7.9.6.3 combined package of (OBIEE 11.1.1.6, BI Publisher, Informatica 9.x, DAC 10.1.3.4.1 with hot fix).
There is My Oracle Support (MOS) article # 1172844.1 (titled ‘Supporting Documentation for Siebel Reports by Product Version’) which explains that Oracle BI Publisher 10.1.3.4.2 version supports Siebel CRM release 8.2.
Due to the limitations of the Oracle BI Publisher usage as per the Oracle support documentation, we need to make use of OBIEE 10g version for BI Publisher for integrating with Siebel 8.2 release and we need to also use OBIEE 11g for the main reporting and henceforth we end up maintaining 2 servers for reporting in our environment.
Does Oracle BI Publisher 11.1.1.5 or 11.1.1.6 version cannot be integrated with Siebel 8.2? Is this not supported version with Seibel 8.2 version?
Oracle BI Publisher architecture in 10g is different when compared to OBIEE 11g version and does it make any impact if we go ahead with 2 different versions pointing to pull the data from the OLTP source ( Siebel) ?
I am looking out for exact approach to be followed for reporting requirements for this kind of scenario ?
Help me with your inputs and suggestions on this.

Convert crystal reports to OBIEE?

Does anyone know of a tool that will convert crystal reports to OBIEE or how difficult it is?

There is no tool as both products are from different vendors. You need to manual conversion, mean get the requirements noted form crystal reports and build them in OBIEE from scratch. Using BI PUblisher is recommended,as most of the crystal reports uses custom sql.

Report definition not found

I install OBIEE 11g and login to BI publisher.
However, I get errors as follows
Report definition not found:/~administrator/Shared Folders/Sample Lite/Published Reporting/Reports/Product Listing/_report.xdo
Where is the correct report definition?

The report definition, if store on File System, are located under folder OracleBI_HOME\xmlp\XMLP\Reports for shared folders and OracleBI_HOME\xmlp\XMLP\Users for user reports.

SAP BI and SAP ECC6 with 2 production clients

Dear Expert,
Can you advise us in an orientation to be taken for SAP BI?
In term of SAP ECC6 architecture, we have two clients in production: client 100 (A) and client 400 (B). Within client 100, there is a company code 1000 with designation A and wthin client 400, there will be also a company 1000 with the designation B. SAP ECC6 manages without problem this architecture.
It was stated to me that the standard SAP BI, does not take account in its output program of the concept of client. For SAP BI, the two clients are systems sources. For infocubes, it is possible to differentiate the client but not for the infoobjects. The consequence, it is at the time as of updates of the data it would seem that for example the designation of the company 1000 will be that of the last upgrade. (1000 - designation A -> 1000 designation B)

what CRM do they use?
if they use Siebel CRM ( Which is the case 60% of the time ) then tell them tht since Siebel wa brought by oracle, OBIEE has seamless integration with Siebel CRM.
I dont have much idea about SAP BI, but OBIEE has certain features like iBots, publisher etc, which are tough to match.
refer Oracle website.. I am sure they must be having good points because of marketing.

Updating custom schema created using RCU

I followed the following chapter from RCU user guide to create a custom schema using RCU:

RCU allows only two operations - 1. create a new schema OR 2. drop a schema.
Can RCU be used to update or modify a custom schema, which has been created using RCU itself?
The use case is: update certain rows in a few tables of the custom schema, whenever there is a fix.
Basically we need to deliver patches (insert scripts containing the fixed or corrected data) to the custom schema created using RCU.
Does RCU support this use case?

Unfortunately, it did not work. I had to re-install the whole thing with the repository in an 11g database and that didn't work either! (see OBIEE 11g: Cannot log into BI Publisher after fresh Install

AWM - Analytic Workspace cubes, used to build OLAP cubes in an Oracle database, create OLAP DML applications etc
OLAP - Industry term, also refers to the Oracle OLAP Option
DataWarehouse - a database which is generally optimized for extracting data, as opposed to inserting data - Google for more info, Oracle supplies exadata 'datawarehouse machine' which is a hardware / database platform ideal for large datawarehouse / data throughput etc.
Data Mining - An oracle product, which allows you to perform data mining !! I dont know much about it, I'd google it for more.
Real-Time Desicion - I think this was a Siebel CRM add-in, not quite sure.
BI Publisher - Formerley XMLPublisher, supercedes Oracle reports, very good for 'pixel' pefect reporting & bursting, can be embedded within OBIEE, Apex etc. can use pretty much any datasource you can connect to with JDBC, also uses BI Server as a data source
so Datawarehouse (read oracle db enterprise edition) , OLAP are products for storing data (Oracle Warehouse builder is an ETL tool for loading these products)
Data Mining, OBIEE, RTD (Real Time Descisions), BI Publisher are all query tools, ie extracting data from your marvellous datawarehouse ! (or other sources)
