OBIEE 11.1.6 version floder structures

Hi All,
I'm new to OBIEE , currently i'm using OBIEE 11.1.6 version .I have successfully installed the software on windows machine.Could you pls giude or provide information about like all the floders in obiee and which floder is using for what we can do and wht is the usage of this floders and how we can use.

OBIEE Upgrade to newer versions

Our enviroment currently is on 10.1.3.4
We recently decided that we need to move to the latest version and had a few questions
If we were to migrate from 10.1.3.4 to 10.1.3.4.1 do we need to do an uninstall/reinstall? Or do we simply install over top what we have? Or is there a patch?
Likewise if we were to move from 10.1.3.4.1 to 10.1.3.4.2 would the same procedure apply? And going from 10 to 11?
Im trying to find documentation on how to do the upgrade but cant seem to find anything

Few Questions on OBIEE Architecture

This is just a continuation of this thread:
Confused on BI Publisher and BI Presentation Services
So just want to know how the whole process takes place, from RPD, XDO, NSQconfig..
So from Step 1 =)
From what I understand as of now is I need to go to Administration Tool, create first a repository? Then go to BI Presentation Services to create reports ( using Answers )? When does the user creation comes into place? What is the purpose of BI Publisher? I've already setup a few things on BI Publisher like User, Roles, etc. but still not on the part of creating a report. Sorry If I ask too many questions, I'm just trying to understand what's the relationship of each tool. I've checked the docs and mostly they're just diving into modifying configs without really explaining why. ( at least that's how I saw it ) =)

Wow - where do we start !
Remember they are two seperate products, OBIEE and its related configs / components (RPD, BI Server, BI Presentation services - Answers, Dashboards, ibots etc)
BI Publisher, formerley XML Publisher, sucessor to Oracle Reports.
They fall under the Oracle BI Stack.
Loads of info on our website, link in the previous post you mentioned.
'Roles' in OBIEE can determine - Authorisation ie what you can do in the sytem or "Priviledges". What objects (reports / dashboards) you can use and can also be used for data security filters (Like a OBIEE 'virtual private database' version of the real Oracle DB option 'VPD')
Roles in BI Publsher typically can mean the same, who can create folders, who can create reports, who can run them , who can create data sources etc. Sometimes you have to use a system specific role name, sometimes you can create your own names and reference them as you please (BIP roles are typically one of a pre-defined set, OBIEE roles can be called whatever you want)
Sounds hard at first and without prior experience but seriously, there are some very very good blogs out there, as mentioned in previous response, we also have a lot of info on our website (Peakindicators.com)

Issue with OBIEE 11.1.1.5.0 Installation on Windows 2008 64-bit machine

I'm following the below steps to install OBIEE 11.1.1.5.0 Installation on Windows 2008 64-bit machine. However the installation is unsuccessful as it fails at the "Domain Creation" step. It would be very helpful and greatly appreciated if any workaround is provided. Thanks!

Graph Not visible in OBIEE 11.1.1.6

Hi,
We had developed the solution in OBIEE 11g(1.5) version then we migrated to OBIEE 11g (1.6) version. Now the issue is few of the graph's are not visible after migration.
Also even if I recreate the graphs and try to remove the decimal places by overwriting the default in column properties>Data format the graph becomes invisible again.
and when I run the report after unchecking the check box of overwriting the default data format I can see the graph.
what can be the reason & what is the solution?

How to do Performance tunning in OBIEE

Hi All,
We are using OBIEE 10.3.4 version on windows envorinment .In our OBIEE project we are using 9 reports my requriment is we need to do performance tunning for OBIEE side.For eace report accessing its taking around 80 sec.We need to decrease these accessing time,is there any possibility to access all the reports with less response time in OBIEE side.
Could you anyone suggest how to do performance tunning in OBIEE side.

Index Hint
The Index hint instructs the optimizer to scan a specified index rather than a table. The following hypothetical example explains how you would use the Index hint. You find queries against the ORDER_ITEMS table to be slow. You review the query optimizer's execution plan and find the FAST_INDEX index is not being used. You create an Index hint to force the optimizer to scan the FAST_INDEX index rather than the ORDER_ITEMS table. The syntax for the Index hint is index(table_name, index_name). To add this hint to the repository, navigate to the Administration Tool's Physical Table dialog box and type the following text in the Hint field:
index(ORDER_ITEMS, FAST_INDEX)
Leading Hint
The Leading hint forces the optimizer to build the join order of a query with a specified table. The syntax for the Leading hint is leading(table_name). If you were creating a foreign key join between the Products table and the Sales Fact table and wanted to force the optimizer to begin the join with the Products table, you would navigate to the Administration Tool's Physical Foreign Key dialog box and type the following text in the Hint field:
leading(Products)
So, the table names "order_items" and "products" in the above documentation will not be the same after BIEE puts aliases on them.

OBIEE 11.1.1.5 Memory Leak issues

Hardware: 64 bit Red Hat Linux Enterprise server 5.2(Tikanga)
Software: OBIEE 11.1.1.5 64 bit
Issue: The memory usage on the server slowly creeps up and occupies almost all of the available memory, then starts swapping.
In our case we have a 48GB RAM 2CPU Linux box on which OBIEE 11.1.1.5 was installed and once we startup Weblogic Server, NodeManager, Managed Server, and OPMN, the memory usage starts at ~4GB and slowly creeps up to ~45GB. The processes do not release the memory back even after shutting down all the services (OPMN, Managed Server, Weblogic Server and Node Manager).
The memory is released only after the Linux box is rebooted.
We have the same software on different boxes which have 8GB RAM and the behavior is same there too. It occupies all of 8GB RAM and then swaps over another 4GB space. Is there a software leak with OBIEE 11.1.1.5 or is it a configuration issue?
We found similar issues reported in forums at Memory Leak on OBIEE webserver 11G (linux version) But there was no resolution.

We're having a similar issue, or at least we think we are on our 64-bit VM Windows environment, running OBIEE 11.1.1.3. Our PROD environment was OS level patched last Tuesday and rebooted, and now it's super slow and using way more RAM than before. Even if we reboot the server, our Managed server (bi_server1) is not working properly. Basically in DEV the Admin and Managed servers are using around 900 MB or RAM, in our PROD env that isn't working properly, the Admin server seems fine at about 900 MB of RAM, but our Managed server is up around 1.4 GB and now taking about 45 minutes to start instead of around 6. We also logged an SR about a week ago to no avail so far, and as you said, it's been going back and forth with the OBIEE and WebLogic teams. If anyone knows anything about this it would be great to hear it!

I want to check the techniques fo report versioning in OBIEE such as using source control /within OBIEE11g . Can we integrate the source control with OBIEE 11g for report versioning . I know , it can be done for RPD .

I understand that in OBIEE 11.1.1.6 , we can integrate OBIEE 11.1.1.6 with source control tool . Is it limited to RPD in MDS XML format . How to put catalog data in Source control after integrating /

Support of structural authorizations in IdM?

I am currently working on an IdM implementation where structural authorizations are handled individually on the various backend systems. Would it be possible to implement a mechanism that would allow IdM to distribute privileges that in the backend system essentiall would translate into entries in the T77UA table? If not, would it be possible to make IdM call a customer RFC in the backend system?

Hello again, I can see now that it is evident that I am a little confused about structural authorizations in general
With our version of structural authorizations I meant that we have implemented a BADI to create a customer specific check of structural authorizations. In fact our implementation is not using the authorizations main switch table in HR as the requirement is to use structural authorizations in some areas of HR and not in other areas. When I wrote that we do not use position based security that is of course not true. What I meant to say, was that we do not use indirect role assignment, which I had confused with the position based assignement of structural authorization profiles. Sorry, about that....
It is probably our customer specific implementation that is causing the problems we are experiencing, so I will look more into that. Thank you for your explanations.

Multiple Presentation Services -OBIEE

Hi,
I have 2 RPDs which needs to be deployed in OBIEE. I want to view the analytical reports of both these RPDs.
However the data sources of these 2 RPDs are different.
Also, I have installed OBIEE on Linux Machine.
Would it be possible to have 2 instances of the presentation services on the same Linux Box. If yes please let me know where I can find the procedure for the same.
Linux Operating System I am using is Oracle Linux 5.0 and OBIEE installed is the version 11.1.1.6.

1. Is it required that the BI Oracle Home be different each time?
2. Once done with the Software Install,will i be able to have another instance (like perhaps instance2 in my case) and have separate presentation services and RPDs or there is something which needs to be done with the Configuration Utillity.
3.What is the scaling up of OBIEE about? Does it also not create another instance of the server.

Exporting photos preserving directory structure...

Is it possible to export many Events / Albums, and have iPhoto export the photos while creating a sub-folder for each Event / Album being exported ? It looks like all photos end up mixed up in one single big folder. This makes it very inconvenient to browse, archive or share large amounts of photos onto a PC or another non-Mac hardware.
Any help apreciated.

No it’s not. You’ll need to export Album by album, Event by Event.
However if you want to grab large numbers of your stuff, you can always go into the iPhoto folder structure and grab photos and folders directly. If the organization makes sense to you, then it should be straight forward to identify which folders are the ones you need to copy to another drive, optical disk, etc.

You will need to choose between Original and Modified files - or else spend some considerable time comparing versions to decide which is the current version
The structure of the folders inside either Originals and Modified does not necessarily follow the structure of the Events in the iPhoto Window - especially if you’ve moved pics between Events in the iPhoto Window since iPhoto 09
And, in the case of Albums, of course, it just won’t work at all. Albums exist only in the database. There is no way to get them from iPhoto without exporting.
As always the Standard Warning: Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.

Not sure what you want to achieve here... however.. what I read is that you would like to have a way to get unstructured data into structured so you can report on it using OBIEE. (Correct?).
Depending on the amount of data and the things you need to do to it before you can structure it you can create a map/reduce function and use Hadoop. There is a connector to push the hadoop results into the Oracle database. Then you could use OBIEE to report on the now structured data in the Oracle database.
As I do not know the details of what you like to achieve,..... this is a solution I would start looking into if I where you.

While I'm not advocating to change delivered code, there is a way you can upgrade to IE10 but have browsers downgraded behind the scenes to run OBIEE 11g as IE versions 7-9 by doing the below
navigate to
Oracle_BI1/bifoundation/web/display/featuretables/
and open iecommon.xml
modify the line that shows below:
<feature name="requiredMetaTags" xsi:type="xsd:string"><meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=100" ></feature>
and change to
<feature name="requiredMetaTags" xsi:type="xsd:string"><meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=9" ></feature>
This will force the meta tag that's push with each html page to be rendered as document type IE9. You can take this all the way down to IE7.
Keep in mind, this method isn't officially supported. However, when you have no control over how IE is rolled out in your organization you're really forced to do things out the ordinary to keep the application functioning
