Obiee 11g 11.1.1.6 Administration Tool issue

Hi all,
I'm having a problem importing tables, views, etc using admin tool since I had to upgrade from version 1.5 to 1.6.
I'm able to connect to my repo online or check out a project for mud, also I have no problem to view data from any table when I right click on them and select the view data options so I rekon there is nothing wrong with the connection itself.
But when try to import data following the below steps
- File - Import Metadata
- Select OCI 10g/11g as my connection type + type in the appropriate Data Source Name + Username/Pwd
- Select the Metadata types (tables, keys etc)
On the next screen the Data Source View list is blank (the only thing i can see is the name of the dara source name), no data are available.

11g 11.1.1.6 BI running on Weblogic 10.3.5.0 (Oralinux 5 64bit)
Oracle 10g DB
11.1.1.6 Admin tool running on Windows 7 32bit
Any of you got the same/similar problem ? Any suggetion please ?

I've finally found the solution and I'm going to share it with you guys so if any of you would face the same problem, you can find the answer here :
So the problem was that I had Oracle 10.2.0 client installed on my local pc which is not fully compatible with the 11.1.1.6 BI client. I just had to uninstall the client and install the latest 11.2.0 one and that's all, problem gone. (apperantly version 10.2.4 also works)

If it is through Presentation Layer,Below the steps you can follow:-
1. Open the OBIEE 11G RPD (offline/online) in Administration Tool
2. Select the ALL/required presentation objects form your Presentation Layer and right-click.
3. On the context menu select “Permission Report”
4 .The Permission Report dialog displays the name and a description of the selected presentation object,
along with a list of users/application roles and their permissions. CLick the Save button to save the permissions in CSV format.
5.Once you saved to a CSV format, you can use that report for the quick auditing of security management.

Unable to see Publisher roles in obiee 11g

Hi All,
I have installed OBIEE 11g (11.6). In Admin tool for the user weblogic I am unable to see the publisher roles XMLP_SCHEDULER, XMLP_ADMIN, XMLP_DEVELOPER etc.. But I am able to access publisher.
Only able to see BI Administrator, BI Author, BI Consumer BI System.
In OBIEE 10g, I am able to see all the roles for Administrator user once I installed.

Thanks.Have you installed BI Publisher along with OBIEE ? If yes, then the roles should have been created in the enterprise manager by default. Since you dont see them, I believe you will have to manually create all the application policies and then application roles and assocaite them. You either find them in the documnetation on what to create etc or you can try installing .5 version of OBIEE to replicate the same in .6.

OBIEE 11g bi_server2 issue

I have clustered the environment(horizontal clustering) so Admin server will be 1 and we will have 2 bi_server which is bi_server1 and bi_server2. Here i am trying to "How To Start WebLogic Admin And OBIEE 11g Managed Servers Without Prompting Administrator Username And Password On Unix Environments [ID 1265834.1]" so i followed the same and restarted the weblogic and managed server. But my bi_server2 is not getting started its showing the below error :

Try to remove the file AdminServer.lok from FMW_HOME\user_projects\domains\bifoundation_domain\servers\AdminServer\tmp
and start the server.

Weird behaviour of OBIEE 11g hierarchy columns

Hi,
I'm facing this weird issue when i implement the OBIEE 11g new feature called hierarchy column.The issue is that the last value in the hierarchy is reporting
Example
Store Heir-achy
->Store Country
->Store City
->Store name
->Store Name
->Store name (And the level goes on and on).
I don't know why this weird thing is happening.Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the response, in regards to whether it is 1 or 2 Logical Facts, it is still the same behaviour. IN regards to the Logical Dimension, yes it is set with two LTS with the applicable content levels set. I even tried that as just 1 LTS doing the join through the General tab. Still the same behaviour with the drill-down. I am assuming it will always go through the full drill path regardless of what level the Fact you are hitting is at.

Administration Tool (11g) - can I get it from OBIEE web interface (Analytics)

My users do not have the right of installing anything by themselves on their workstation. But for testing reasons I have to provide the Administration Tool. Can I download it somewhere from web interface (for example as we can download BI Desktop Tools)?
Version of OBIEE is 11.1.1.7.

Alternatively they lie on your server under INSTALLFOLDER/MiddlewareHome/Oracle_BI1/clients

OBIEE 11g - Analysis & Administration Tool questions

Dear Experts,
I have two question in OBIEE 11g version 11.1.1.5.0:
1. How can we display timezone in the analysis result, we have formatted the mask "MM_DD_YYYY hh:mm:ss tt z" but the "z" does not apply, it display character "z" in our result.
2. Can we create Hierarchy Dimension from one more tables ? Example that we have TimeDimension and LocationDimension, we want to create only on Hierarchy Dimension included two both Time and Location dimension.

Unable to Open RPD in online mode by using the Admin tool in OBIEE 11g.

Hi All,
I Installed OBIEE 11g (11.1.1.5) in Linux Box.
When I am trying to Open the RPD in online mode by using the Admin tool, I am facing the below error.
Logon failed due to:[nqsError:43113] Message returned from obis
[nQSError:13037] Cannot connect to BI Security Service,please make sure this is running properly (with SSL ot not) in EM.
[nQSError:37001] Couldnot connect to the Oracle BI Server Instance.
All my services are up and the status are Alive,My biserver is in Running Mode and I am able to open the Answers page too.
I am able to open the same RPD in Offline mode but not in Online mode.
I Created a System DSN in ODBC Data Source Administrator for opening the RPD by using the OracleBIServer1 driver,still the issue doesnt resolve.
Any help is highly appreciated.

This question is answered.
The Resolution is
While Installing the RCU i created two instances so the RPD is not able to take the correct instance.After deleting the other instance now i am able to open the RPD in online mode as it is pointing to only one instance.

The connection has failed while creating a New Repository using Oracle BI 11g Administration Tool

In the BI Administration Tool when i try to create a “New Repository…” faced The connection has failed I try all of these solutions but dident work..
1-configured my “System DSN"
2-enter “TNS_ADMIN” for the “Variable Name” field and for the “Variable Value” enter the location of my OBIEE
3-copy the sqlnet and tnsnames.ora files into E:\obiee11gtmt\Oracle_BI1\network\admin and E:\obiee11gtmt\oracle_common\network\admin
4- put this in DSN with connection type OCI 10g/11g (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = IP Addr)(PORT = 1521)) ) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = ORCL) ))

1.Place tnsnames.ora file in the following paths,
E:\obiee11gtmt\oracle_common\network\
E:\obiee11gtmt\Oracle_BI1\network\admin
2.Navigate to
E:\obiee11gtmt\instances\instance1\bifoundation\OracleBIApplication\coreapplication\setup\
Open user.sh file in a notepad
Set Tns_names paths as shown below with your tnsnames.ora file’s location,
set TNS_ADMIN=C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN
The above path is of your installed Database tnsnames.ora file
I guess you didnt do this step. This will solve your issue.
Restart all the services

Connection Failed in OBIEE 11g Admin tool

Hi,
I have virtual image V305 of OBIEE on linux x86-64. It is working fine but I was not able to access Admintool from linux m/c.
So I have installed OBIEE 11g client on windows XP. It is showing all the subject area & tables. But when I am importing any table from my DB, it is giving error "Connection has failed". I have done tnsname.Ora file in both folder Oracle client & OBIEE client
Please help me as soon as possible.

I've found a work around for using tnsnames:
put the following string in "Data Source" and it works
(DESCRIPTION =(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <your host>)(PORT = 1521))(CONNECT_DATA =(SERVER = DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME = <your database>)))

Import metadata from BI Admin tool -OBIEE 11g

Hi,
I am trying to import metadata from BI Admin tool 11g (offile- did not start BI services) but it always showing "Connection has failed". I tried ODBC 2.0, ODBC 3.5, OCI11g/10g with different schemas .. But still no luck... I checked all those from Toad and DSN Tests.. then all are successfulll... But in BI Admin Tool only I can not connect to those Datasources.. Where Iam wrong..? any workarounds would be appreciated...

We have tnsnames.ora file in this oracle folder coppy that and save it in
C:\Oracle\product\11.2.0\client_1\network\admin

This tnsname.ora file should contain the details of
Data Source name – ORCL
Host name – xxxx.xxxxxx.com
Portno - 1531 (This port no is default port in oracle)
Service Name – ORCL
OBIEE FOLDER
C:\OBIEE\oraclebi\orainst\config\OracleBIServerComponent\coreapplication
Tnsname.ora (need to have this file in the above path which is same in ORACLE FOLDER)
GOTO – Start – Control panel – Administrative Tool – Data Source(ODBC) in this
1.     Goto System DSN tab
2.     Select Add at right side
3.     A new pop-up window opens – ‘Create New Data Source’
4.     Select from the list – Oracle in OraClient11g_Home
5.     A pop-up window opens –‘Oracle ODBC Driver Configaration’ in that
6.     Data Source name – Mandatory (You can give any name) e.g –ORACLE DSN
7.     Description – Optional (you can give r leave it blank).
8.     TNS Service Name – HOST:PORT/Data Source Name e.g –xxxx.xxxxxxx.com:1531/ORCL (xxxx.xxxxxx.com may be IP Address also)
9.     User ID – Give Database USERID (If you are going to take data from SERVER you have to give Server Data Base USER ID / If you are going to take data from Local Machine use your Local machine database User id ) e.g –USER id – ‘system’ where password is – ‘Manager’

Installed OBIEE Administration tool on 32 bit client, next step ?

I have installed a BI Server on a 64bit server and OBIEE administration tool on a separate 32-bit client as described in the following post :

I assume that next step would be to migrate the BI Discoverer EUL to BI Server; but are there any other configuration that I should do first before that ? Should I install an application database in 11g prior to the migration ? My client only wants a demo with an example from the currently existing EUL so I thought I would make this as simple as I could...

Hi,
If you look at the compatibility matrix you can see the Admin tool is only supported up to Windows 7, there is no official support for Windows 8 / 8.1 on the current version (new versions will maybe introduce it).
I also read somewhere the 32bit version works, but I also read it was extremely slow when opening (10-15 minutes) and no guarantee everything works.
In the end the best solution is probably to run it in a VM for now waiting for new releases.

Creating views in Physical Layer of OBIEE Administration Tool

I am doing a proof of concept of creating an OBIEE repository using the Administration Tool to make a model for an in house sandbox OLTP system. Because this POC isn't using a warehouse that is built nicely with everything I need, I am having to import the OLTP tables into the Physical Layer and then create a few extra views (by creating a new physical table object and selecting "Table Type: Select") to add some new columns I will need.
My problem is that once I have created two views 'ViewA' and 'ViewB', I want to then create a third view 'ViewC' that is the union of 'ViewA' and 'ViewB'. But when I create ViewC from these two views and try to then update row count or view data in newly created ViewC, I get an error message of the effect:
Message 208: Invalid object name 'DBO.ViewA'
Message 208: Invalid object name 'DBO.ViewB'
When I try and create ViewC with DBO.OriginalTableA and DBO.OriginalTableB, however, it works just fine. And I am also able to successfully update row count and view data in ViewA and ViewB independently. So it seems to me like a view initialization problem when trying to have ViewC be created from A and B.
Am I trying to do something that is not allowed in the Physical Layer of the BI Admin Tool? I would think that I should be able to work with views just like actual physical tables from my OLTP. Maybe not.

I think, I have given configured connection pool correct. (following Oracle guidelines: 'In the Connection Pool dialog box, on the General tab, verify that the call interface is set to Default (OCI 10g) and change the data source name to the appropriate tnsnames.ora entry ( ORCL in this example). Please note that this is the TNS service name, not the ODBC DSN. ' )
I tried to give ODBC DSN (SH) as call interface, which resulted in an Error dialogue, implying, previous configuration was correct.
So, I reverted back.

OBIEE 11g BI Admin tool not working on Windows 7 64bit - Any alternative???

I installed OBIEE 11G on Win 7 64 bit after a long struggle it went well but the admin tool is not starting..........After a search in the forum i came to know that 64 bit os can run obiee client tools. is there any work around for this? I don't want to move to 32 bit os again after taking this much struggle in installation.............can any one suggest me an alternative to work with admin tool. Using VMware 32 bit windows is an option but I don't want to go with it.

"No Log Found" in OBIEE 11g Administration- Manage Sessions

I am using 11.1.1.5 and have set the Repository logging to Log Level 2..and have also made the User logging to Level 2 as well. I know there is a session variable called LOGLEVEL and I have also tried to edit that. Despite this, I am still unable to see the physical SQL generated by the BI Server under Administration->Manage Sessions. Any idea what I may be missing?

Method 1:
create session veraible and set it log level 0 ro 7 then u can able to manage session view log (physical query)

and just add dummy table mentioned below kind
select 7 from IW_POSITION
assign system session variable:
LOGLEVEL
then save it and try to login weblogic then u can able to see the view log.
Method 2:
for the particular report do it in answres -->advanced tab
can you try putting the below syntax in prefix section of advanced tab.
SET VARIABLE LOGLEVEL=2,DISABLE_CACHE_HIT=1;
It should generate the log with database sql as well.
