OBIEE 11g + Windows 7 64bit?

Hi everyone,
Quick question but has anyone been able to install OBIEE 11g in Windows 7 64bit?
I got the 64-bit Windows installer from (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-enterprise-edition/downloads/bus-intelligence-11g-165436.html). But every time I double click on the setup.exe, the DOS window pops up for about half a second and then disappears and nothing happens. I tried the 32-bit install but that quickly realizes that my OS is 64-bit and it gives up right away too.
Based on the certification matrix (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-enterprise-edition/bi-11gr1certmatrix-166168.html), it looks like Windows 7 32bit is supported but not 64bit.
In the past, there's always been some kind of work around or command line flag we could throw in to get it to install anyway. Anyone know a work around?
Thanks!
-Joe

I am running Windows 7 Professional 64bits and the installer works fine on my PC although I have not tried installing OBIEE as I don't want to "contaminate" my PC with it so I am using a Windows 32bits VM. I suggest you upgrade your Java JDK/JRE to the latest version and also make use UAC is turned on and no AV software is running.

    Hi ,
    I am facing a issue in obiee 11g(windows 2003 server). I have 2 environments (SIT & dev)
In dev I am not facing any issue but in SIT when i print the report in html only 1-25 rows are displayed.
What should i do to see all the rows
    Thanks in advance
    Abdul

    Hi,
In your Dev Server its configured on instanceconfig.xml file that why are getting the all rows with setting pdf/print control properties.
    1. Change instanceconfig.xml file in <biee11g_install>\instances\instance1\config\OracleBIPresentationServicesComponent\coreapplication_obips1 as following
    <Views>
    <Pivot>

    <MaxVisibleSections>5000</MaxVisibleSections>
    </Table>
    </Table>
    </Views>
    3. Note the new elements added are the following to both <Pivot> and <Table>, the Pivot part controls Pivot view, and Table part controls Table View, my testing was done with Table View.
    <MaxVisiblePages>2500</MaxVisiblePages>
    <MaxVisibleRows>500000</MaxVisibleRows>
    <MaxVisibleSections>5000</MaxVisibleSections>
    4. Restart Presentation Server from EM, then run your request, do pdf export to verify.
    Note:
When a table or pivot table includes a large number of rows, a set of buttons can be displayed under the view. You can use the following buttons to page through the rows in the view:
•First 25 Rows — Displays the first 25 rows of data for the view. The number that is used for the First, Previous, and Next buttons is specified by the Rows per Page field in the "Table Properties dialog: Style tab".
•Previous 25 Rows — Displays the previous 25 rows of data for the view.
•Next 25 Rows — Displays the next 25 rows of data for the view.
•Display maximum (500) rows per page — Allows you to display as many as the maximum number of rows per page at one time temporarily. The default is 500. The administrator can specify a different maximum value that is displayed on the tooltip for the button using the MaxVisibleRows element in the configuration file.
For more Refer my blog post
    http://obieeelegant.blogspot.sg/2011/09/unable-to-export-all-rows-from-request.html
Note: this same thing you can also configure your UAT/Prod Server. then its will automated so you no need to configure each report.its will affect all the pivot/table view
also its noted as a bug in obiee11g(11.1.1.3/5) and its fixed in obiee11.1.1.6.0 and above version

  • OBIEE 11g on Windows 7 (64 bit)

    Experts,
I tried installing OBIEE 11.1.1.5 (both Simple and Software only install) mutiple times on my Laptop running Win 7 (64 bit), but all the times the installation hangs at "Creating domain", the first configuration step. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, I did all the pre-installation steps before running the setup.exe. Does anyone installed OBIEE 11g on Win 7 (64 bit). If yes, please suggest what other things I need to do for a successful installation
    Regards,
    Sarvan

    Hi
Even though officially this is not supported on Windows 7 OS, still we should be able to install it without any issues. I installed OBIEE 11g simple edition on Windows 7, 64 Bit OS and everything is working fine. Infact I used Oracle Express Database Edition 10g instead of full blown Oracle 11g database. I used this to run RCU to create 2 obiee schemas. It did took lot of time though on windows like around 50 minutes for the full installation which installed weblogic, obiee on top of this, then create a default domain named bifoundation. I could create some test reports, dashboards etc.
Here is another link that is also successfull in installing OBIEE 11g on Windows 7, 64 bit:
    http://123obi.com/2011/05/obiee-11g-11-1-1-5-0-installation-on-windows-7/
I did not do anything special.
    1. Download all the installers, RCU etc.
    2. First in my Oracle 10g express edition, run RCU and create 2 schemas for OBIEE.
    3. Run obiee installer and wait for about an hour. It came out successfully. Started the domain, started OPMN Services, started a browser with one url.
    4. One thing is. I first installed Java/JDK 64 Bit version and put this in the PATH variable. So when I run java -version, it showed me this 64bit JDK. BUT even though I did this, internally the obiee domain still used its own JDK. I checked this in the startup script file named "StartStopServices.cmd" having one property like this:
    JAVA_HOME=C:\Oracle\Middleware115BI\Oracle_BI1\jdk
And also under the domain root folder like bifoundation_domain/bin/setDomainEnv.cmd, I could see JAVA_HOME using the same above location.
    Thanks

  • OBIEE 11g upgrade wizard & installation on linux 64bit

    Hi,
Is it that on Linux 64 bit machine, i should install OBIEE 11g in "Software Only" mode, only then upgrade wizard works correctly, if i need to do "Software Only" should i be installing weblogic server independently? or at high level what are steps to be followed.
    Thanks,
    Sree

    Hi Sree,
What you are mentioning here is relevant for Windows 64 bits environment where you have to install the software only after installing web logic standalone.
The installer for Linux 64bit will install all the components for you except of course the RCU that you need to downlaod and install first.
Please refer to this link for more details about the installation
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/bi.1111/e10539/c4_installing.htm#CIHDJGIH
NB: Devlopement tools (Admin tool or catalog manager..) don't exisit for Linux, so you have to use windows for development

  • Windows 64-bit + OBIEE 11g + Internet Explorer 10

Not a question this time, just an observation about the interaction between OBIEE 11.1.1.6.0 and IE 10 on 64-bit Windows.
After installing OBIEE 11.1.1.6.0 on 64-bit Windows, the Analytics environment worked fine in IE 10. When starting BI Services from the Start menu everything was fine.
Prior to installing any patch sets, I installed the two Windows Services (Admin Server, Managed Server). At that point, the Analytics environment on Internet Explorer 10 would not work properly (Firefox was fine).
    - The login screen has the User and Password fields all the way on the left of the screen, but I am able to log in to analytics.
    - Clicking New...Analysis does nothing. No subject area list, no blank field where a list should be, just nothing. It's like clicking on air.
    - Selecting Administration ... Manage Privileges takes me to the correct screen, but there is no scroll bar on the right side.
I accessed Programs and Features ... Installed Updates, and Uninstalled Windows Internet Explorer 10. This rolls IE back to IE 9.
After restarting the machine, Analytics 11.1.1.6.0 works just fine in IE9.
After installing the 11.1.1.6.9 patchset, Analytics still works just fine in IE9. After reinstalling IE10, Analytics is back to its same broken state.
Takeaway: Don't use IE10 with OBIEE 11g (at least through the 11.1.1.6.9 patchset) on 64-bit Windows.

Yup, same here using OBIEE 11.1.6.6 on Windows 7 64bit with IE 10. I do get the scrollbar in 'Manage privileges', however as a trade off my catalog will not load: the left tree only shows 'Shared Folders', the main screen does not load any of the content (just and endless loading animation), and both the 'open' and 'favorits' drop down menu remain empty.

  • Benefits of the 64bit Version of OBIEE 11g?

    Hello,
I am in the process of verifying if the 32bit or the 64 bit Version of OBIEE 11g would suit our needs. The platform we will install OBIEE would be windows.
As far as the certifications go the 32bit Version of OBIEE is certified on the 32bit Versions of windows, so if we want to run a *certified* combination on a 64bit OS the 64bit version would be the way to go. OUI however doesn't complain when installing the 32bit Version on a 64bit OS.
As far as the Windows Server versions go there is no 32bit Version available anymore for future releases (starting with server 2008 R2), so in the future the (certified) way to go would be 64bit. However, for the sake of argument let's assume we are staying on Server 2008 where a 32bit version is still available.
I've found a lot of blog posts on how great OBIEE 11g is, and if one has the chance one should go for the 64bit version. That's nice, but I am missing the +whys+ and certainly the +buts+. Also, the oracle documentation (Oracle&amp;#174; Fusion Middleware System Requirements and Specifications) tells me the requirements for both architectures, but most certainly not when to use the 64bit version, and when a 32bit installation still will suit my needs.
The main reason for me to go for a 64bit version would be if we would have a huge amount of concurrent user sessions where of course the 32bit version will be constrainted by the Memory Limit imposed by the 32bit architecture. I guess the types of reports etc. might also come into play when it boils down to memory.
As for now I've installed the 64bit and the 32bit Version (11.1.1.7) and the first thing I can observe is that weblogic consumes double the memory on the 64bit version even with no user session connected and nothing to do for OBIEE whatsoever. So for a small installation (say ~ 20 concurrent sessions) I am tempted not to go for the general advice from above to "use the 64bit version if you can" as it's highly oversized.
Are there any other drawbacks in using the 32bit Version of OBIEE 11g for small installations (besides the certification question, and the "one day you might have more users" reason)? And when would it be advisable to go for 64bit? I know a general "do X when you have Y sessions" is not possible as every sytem behaves different, so I understand that a general answer isn't possible. But personal experiences would be helpful
    thanks in advance,
    cheers
    Christian

I have recently used the iLife bundle to process footage on the 3rd birthday party of my friends' son (my first production). I used iMovie to edit the footage, added audio tracks from iTunes, dropped a few photos from iPhoto on the drop zones of iDVD, added a slideshow to the project as well. Boy, my friends were amazed when I played the DVD before them (they were not mac users).
With such limited effort one need to spend on it (time and money), the output iLife gives is, what Jobs likes to say in keynote, phenomenal.

  • Report Builder 11g on Windows 7(64bit)?

    Hi Oracle Guys
I know that Report Builder 11g is not certified on Windows 7 (64Bit)
Knows someone if release 2 it is planned ?
Or knows someone for when the releases 2 or a patch is planned?
We want to install next year new Developer-Clients and we want to know if Windows 7 64bit is an “no go”
    thx

I use the 11g Reports Builder on 64bit Windows 7.
It works fine except that it doesn't like the Aero interface. Windows automatically switches to basic mode when you're running the builder.
If you're ok with that then you shouldn't have any problems.

    Toby.

    Hi,
It look like port conflict issue.
    Root Cause
The port, identified in the AdminServer-diagnostic log:
OPMN.queryProcessStatus failed with the following exception
[[ oracle.as.management.opmn.optic.OpticBadConnectException: Could not get secure socket for host slvgqa58.company.com and port 9501
    at oracle.as.management.opmn.optic.OpmnSSL.getSecureSocket(OpmnSSL.java:52)
was fouled by a another process.
    Solution
Clear the port, by using the netstat command (i.e. netstat -anp grep 9501) to identify the processes running on the specified port, and then kill those processes.Once the processes were terminated, all BI components, on both servers in the cluster, started successfully.
    Thanks
    Deva

  • Requirement to upgrade OBIEE 10g on Windows to OBIEE 11g on Linux

    Dear All,
I have a requirement to upgrade OBIEE 10g from current windows 2003 environment to OBIEE 11g Linux environment.
I went through forums and many threads on upgrade, everywhere they talk about Upgrade Assistant (UA). And oracle documentation says ,
+"Do not change from one platform or architecture to a different platform or architecture as part of the upgrade process.+
+For example, if the existing 10g system is running on a Windows 32-bit platform, do not install Oracle BI 11g on a Linux 64-bit platform and then run the Linux 64-bit Upgrade Assistant to upgrade the existing 10g system."+
But there would certainly be scenarios with other users the way I have. Then what is the way out to do this upgrade?
Can anyone give some advice on this. It is little urgent.
    Thanking in advance.
    Regards,
    Deepika.

Thats are huge change in platform. win32 to linux 64.
Yet what we upgrade is only
    catalog and rpd.
this might involve some manual change if UA cannot complete successfully.
Its better to do a prototype before the actual upgrade as recommended by Oracle. This will show what can the possible issues and road blocks.

  • OBIEE 11g on windows issue

Has anyone had any success in installing OBIEE (11.1.1.5), DAC (10.1.3.4.1), Informatica (9.0.1 hotfix 2) and Oracle BI Apps (7.9.6.3) on Linux 64 bit?
We have been provided 2 physical Linux servers (say A & B) and 1 virtual server (say C) for the same. We were able to install obiee 11g on linux x86 machine (A). We were able to also install the Informatica server (9.0.1 hotfilx 2) and DAC server on the machine (B). As per e-delivery, Bi apps 7.9.6.3 is not available for linux x86_64 bit platform, hence we have downloaded for windows and planning to install on windows machine(C).
So i have followed this doc http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E20490_01/bia.7963/e19038.pdf section 4.1 for installaing. so it says to install OBIEE complete install(same one which we did on linux machine A) so when i started installing OBIEE enterprise install i am using the same dev_biplatform and mds schema details on windows too but it says it already exist on the database. so i got struck here. So what kind of install do we need to do on windows for OBIEE because after that when we perform OBIA installation we need to provide the OBIEE isntallation paths like webloic home, middleware home, etc so that it will create all the metadata files rpd,catalog,obia_bw.rep etc.
So once it is success i would move the OBIA respective files to linux machine A and B.
    please help me with this.
    Thanks,
    RM

    HI,
    10.5.1 500 Internal Server Error
The above error says Presentation services not running.
Using this command you can check:
    Open --> Run--> Cd OBIEE_Home\Instance/Intstace / bin> opmnctl status
Try to stop services and again restart the all services.
stop the all services = opmnctl stop all
Start the services = opmnctl start all
I guess you installation not done completely.
Please refer the below link try to install freshly.
