  • Installed OBIEE Administration tool on 32 bit client, next step ?

    Hello all,
I have installed a BI Server on a 64bit server and OBIEE administration tool on a separate 32-bit client as described in the following post :
How To Install Only The OBIEE 11g Administration And Client Tools [ID 1186342.1]
I assume that next step would be to migrate the BI Discoverer EUL to BI Server; but are there any other configuration that I should do first before that ? Should I install an application database in 11g prior to the migration ? My client only wants a demo with an example from the currently existing EUL so I thought I would make this as simple as I could...
Thank you for shedding any light on this!!!
    Myriam

    Hi,
If you look at the compatibility matrix you can see the Admin tool is only supported up to Windows 7, there is no official support for Windows 8 / 8.1 on the current version (new versions will maybe introduce it).
I also read somewhere the 32bit version works, but I also read it was extremely slow when opening (10-15 minutes) and no guarantee everything works.
In the end the best solution is probably to run it in a VM for now waiting for new releases.

  • Creating views in Physical Layer of OBIEE Administration Tool

    Hello,
I am doing a proof of concept of creating an OBIEE repository using the Administration Tool to make a model for an in house sandbox OLTP system. Because this POC isn't using a warehouse that is built nicely with everything I need, I am having to import the OLTP tables into the Physical Layer and then create a few extra views (by creating a new physical table object and selecting "Table Type: Select") to add some new columns I will need.
My problem is that once I have created two views 'ViewA' and 'ViewB', I want to then create a third view 'ViewC' that is the union of 'ViewA' and 'ViewB'. But when I create ViewC from these two views and try to then update row count or view data in newly created ViewC, I get an error message of the effect:
Message 208: Invalid object name 'DBO.ViewA'
Message 208: Invalid object name 'DBO.ViewB'
When I try and create ViewC with DBO.OriginalTableA and DBO.OriginalTableB, however, it works just fine. And I am also able to successfully update row count and view data in ViewA and ViewB independently. So it seems to me like a view initialization problem when trying to have ViewC be created from A and B.
Am I trying to do something that is not allowed in the Physical Layer of the BI Admin Tool? I would think that I should be able to work with views just like actual physical tables from my OLTP. Maybe not.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

    Hi Hammett81 ,
I think, I have given configured connection pool correct. (following Oracle guidelines: 'In the Connection Pool dialog box, on the General tab, verify that the call interface is set to Default (OCI 10g) and change the data source name to the appropriate tnsnames.ora entry ( ORCL in this example). Please note that this is the TNS service name, not the ODBC DSN. ' )
I tried to give ODBC DSN (SH) as call interface, which resulted in an Error dialogue, implying, previous configuration was correct.
    So, I reverted back.

  • OBIEE Administration tool not opening in windows 8.1

    Hi,
I have Windows 8.1 64-bit machine installed. I installed OBIEE 11.1.1.7 and the Admin tool doesn't open forever. I read somewhere installing 32 bit version works on windows 8.1. How true is that ? Or OBIEE is completely not compatible with windows 8.1 ?
Any recommendations/solutions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Vinoth

  • OBIEE - Administration tool doesn't start up

    Where to start...
I go to Start >> All Programs >> OBI >> and select Administration, and I get the outer glass symbol for around 4 seconds and nothing happens.
I have these Services Running: Oracle BI Java Host, Oracle BI Presentation Server, and Oracle BI Server.
I have OC4J running as well.
This didn't work but since it did for everyone else on my team I initially figured that I installed it wrong. So I reinstalled it. The thing that makes this odd, is that after the installation, I attempted to open the tool and it worked. THIS WAS BEFORE I RESTARTED MY COMPUTER. I restarted my computer and it now goes back to the initial outer glass and then nothing.
Someone mentioned to clear my temporary internet files, and I have done so with nothing happening.
    Please Help
    Thanks
    Chris B.

If nothing else works, try reinstalling your JDK

  • How to Oracle Database Function in OBIEE Administration Tool

    Hi All,
I want to use a Oracle Database Function in as a column in OBIEE (BM, Presentation Model). Can anybody has done this inOBIEE. Any pointers to this is much appreicated.
    Thanks,

    Hi user7417334,
You cannot use any formulas in the presentation layer (not that I know of). But you can definitely use oracle database functions in the BMM layer.
You want to use the EVALUATE function. It works like this:
    e.x. EVALUATE( 'TO_DATE(%1,%2)' AS DATE, '12/31/2009', 'MM/DD/YYYY')
    Generic Version: EVALUATE( '<FUNC>' AS <DATATYPE>, VALUE1,VALUE2,etc)
FUNC) Is the syntax for the function you are calling. Any parameters have to be replaced by %<number>, where number refers to the order in which you specify your parameters.
DATATYPE) The datatype that the function will evaluate to. In this case, DATE.
VALUE1) The latter part of the formula is a comma separated list of all the parameters used in the function. In this case, it's the date I want to cast
VALUE2) This is the second parameter. You need as many as you referenced in your function. In this case, it's the date format.
Good luck and if you found this post useful, please award points!
    best regards,
    -Joe

  • 'ADMINISTRATION TOOL' RELATED QUERIES

    Hi All,
I have few queries regarding OBIEE administration tool, request to help me out in getting answers for these.
Using OBIEE version 10.1.3.4.0, any information about these queries/documents/site related to these topics would help me.
    1. Suppose i have more than one dimension model in a single rpd, more than one developer access to this rpd. Is it possible to restrictaccess for one dimension model so that s/he will not be able to access other models?
    2. Also when there are more than one rpds in Administration tool and many developers access to them, can security be defined like 'User A will have access only to RPD1' A cannot access any other offline/online rpd.
    3. Administration tool must be installed in Server or it can be installed in client system also? asking this question because if more than one developer wants to access administration tool at the same time how can it be achieved?
    4. In my rpd i have dimention models ( more than one), can i import one model from this rpd to another rpd?
    5. What is multiuser environment? will it help in any of my above requirements??
    Thanks in advance

    1. No, but you can use MUD to define different projects so that developers "check out" the projects they are working on. See the links provided on the previous response.
    2. The security is defined in each RPD. To open an RPD you need to be an Administrator user defined in that RPD. Online access can be restricted if you block connections to your BI Servers on port 9703 so that they can only come from a local connection or from defined IPs. You will need a firewall for that though. Offline access can not be restricted. If I have an RPD locally and I have an admin account I can open it anywhere I want.
    3. Client only it's fine. You would simply install the client tools in each developer's machine.
    4. Yes, search this forum for "merge repositories", plenty of guidance already available.
    5. The links provided above give you a good explanation of what MUD is and what it is for. Searching this forums also gives you plenty of information.

  • Generate xml of a rpd created by OBIEE Administration 11

I'm using this command "nqUDMLgen.exe -U Administrator -P Admin123 -R <location_to_rpd> -O <location_to_xml> -8" to generate xml for a rpd created by OBIEE Administration tool version 11. The error I get is "The repository <location_to_rpd> cannot be opened". But this works perfectly for a rpd created by version 10. I doubt in the username because the tools doesn't show the default username like that of version 10. What am I doing wrong?

    This works for me
    nqudmlgen.exe -P Admin123 -R C:\App11g\instances\instance3\bifoundation\OracleBIServerComponent\coreapplication_obis1\repository\SampleAppLite_BI0001.rpd -O one1.udml -8

  • Administration Tool (11g) -  can I get it from OBIEE web interface (Analytics)

    Hello,
My users do not have the right of installing anything by themselves on their workstation. But for testing reasons I have to provide the Administration Tool. Can I download it somewhere from web interface (for example as we can download BI Desktop Tools)?
    Version of OBIEE is 11.1.1.7.
    Thanks for your answer.
    Regards,
    Dominic CHITAC

YOURSERVER/saw.dll?bieehome <-- There's a download link but you will still need to install it. That will just get you the binaries.
Alternatively they lie on your server under INSTALLFOLDER/MiddlewareHome/Oracle_BI1/clients

  • OBIEE BI Administration Tool not able to connect to the Repository

I have my OBIEE BI server installed on a Linux server and have installed BI Client Tools on my PC which I will be using for development purposes. I have installed BI Administration Tool on my PC but I can not connect to the database.
I'm getting an error nQsError: 46029 that says I do not have 10g client installed but I did download and install this client onto my desktop. I also have the TNSnames file in the oracle_home. I can connect to the database with Oracle Reports6i and sqlplus from this same desktop but I can't seem to be able to pick up the repository for the BI Administration Tool
Any idea where I am going wrong.
    Thanks,
    Leo

Have you created TNS_ADMIN environment variable. Create a environment variable TNS_ADMIN which maps to location where tnsnames.ora is located.
then restart your services/machine, and test it.

  • Administration Tool 11g Language / Locale

Hi, I would like to know how can I change the Admistration Tool Language in BIEE 11g. It is currently in portuguese, but I want it in English.
    Thank you.

Hi, I changed all entries in the registry, but it did not work.
However I erased the AdmintoolPTB.dll (which is for Brazilian Portuguese) and it worked.
I guess this is not the correct way, but I will use it for the time being.
Thank you very much for the response!
